  • Is this power supply (A1185 10.8 V, 55Wh) compatible with  New White 60W 16.5V 3.65A Laptop AC Adapter Supply Magsafe Power Charger For Apple Macbook pro A1184 A1185

Is this power supply (A1185 10.8 V, 55Wh) compatible with  New White 60W 16.5V 3.65A Laptop AC Adapter Supply Magsafe Power Charger For Apple Macbook pro A1184 A1185

All of the A1181 polycarbonate MacBooks use the A1184 60W MagSafe power supply/charger and the A1185 battery. These are the Apple part numbers. Other manufacturers make equivalent replacement products, but the quality may not be acceptable.

  • Laptop battery and generic MagSafe adapter

My MagSafe adapter went dead. If I use a generic MagSafe adapter the ones that you buy on ebay. Would  this damage my laptop battery?

I would avoid those - I tried it once in my old 15 inch Macbook - and for some reason - it only works when it wants to and my battery needed to be replaced after a couple of months (coincidence maybe?).
So spend the extra $20 for the Apple Branded Magsafe.
Then again, that's just my suggestion.

  • [SOLVED] Brand new laptop, battery charges to 95% max (?)

I've seen this widely on a simple google search for "last full capacity",
the laptop has been used for just two days, but acpi reports:
    koko@TravelMate ~ $ acpi -biatc
Battery 0: Charging, 100%, until charged
Battery 0: design capacity 4400 mAh, last full capacity 4182 mAh = 95%
    Adapter 0: on-line
Cooling 0: x86_pkg_temp no state information available
Cooling 1: intel_powerclamp no state information available
    Cooling 2: Processor 0 of 10
    Cooling 3: Processor 0 of 10
    Cooling 4: Processor 0 of 10
    Cooling 5: Processor 0 of 10
it won't go higher than that.
Is that normal? maybe some sort of overcharge protection?
my previous netbook always charged to 100% or even a bit more than the design capacity...

emeres wrote:Depending on the technology used, one (or several) of the cells might be shorted or almost shorted. Another reason might be wrong measurement [circuit] from either battery or laptop side. And the simplest reason would be that the laptop/battery was produced some time ago, depending on type of technology used, certain batteries lose significant amount of capacity over time (even if unused). Since it is brand new, get in touch with your supplier and get at least the battery exchanged.
If you try to discharge it first, do fully discharge it using LEDs or some other low current load until voltage drops to approximately 10% of nominal voltage, and then recharge it not extending 110% of time it needed to be fully charged Repeating this cycle might and does help with certain types of batteries. If I were you, I would not bother however and go get a replacement from the shop, unless it is really troublesome.
As for overcharge protection, there are usually thermal (usually the most important one), shortcircuit and overcharge (meaning overvoltage protection) protections built into the battery (usually one ic) and/or laptop.
None of that is applicable for Lithium Polymer or Lithium Ion batteries.  They should never drop below 3 volts.  Discharging them below that point will destroy them and risk a fire.  Charging Lithium based batteries is also non trivial and requires tight monitoring of voltage and controls on current and time.  Do not mess with LiPoly or LiIon, they truly represent a serious safety hazard if they are mistreated.   I note that your suggestions and descriptions of shorted cells are applicable to some non Li technologies; notably Nickle based batteries (Nickle Cadmium, Nickle Metal Hydride, etc...)  In general, those are not found in modern laptops because of their toxicity and relatively low energy density as compared to LiPoly.

  • SCCM Report for Laptop Battery Condition

    Good morning,
We are in a situation where we're needing to monitor conditions of laptop batteries in the school district I manage.   I have added the laptop batteries class(Win32_Battery) and have all required/requested information checked under this class.  This
has been set for a week, so all devices should be inventoried by now.
How do you recommend my getting a report together that shows battery condition/etc?  The fields I would like to see are ones such as:
    Win32_Battery
    battery status
    design capacity
    design voltage
    Expected Life
    Error Description
    Full Charge Capacity
Really anything that will help us in knowing which laptops batteries need replacing.
I am not that knowledgeable about SQL reporting/SCCM reporting, so any help in getting this is greatly appreciated.  Any resources that you can point me in for getting more familiar with creating my own reports would be greatly appreciated.  I
don't even know where to begin.
    Thank you!

Good you have added the class. Please use the following link for the detailed information about Win32_Battery:

  • KDE battery monitor not detecting laptop battery

I am using KDE on my Dell XPS laptop. The default battery monitor that comes with KDE installation is not detecting the laptop battery. It is showing "Battery: Not Present". Because of this I am unaware about the time remaining on my battery. Any solutions please?

Have you tried rebooting *twice*? I've seen this issue but I've always resolved it by rebooting and then rebooting again. (The system goes rather insane on the first reboot and I always think either my hardware is completely screwed or my install of Arch is twisted far beyond the point of insanity. But then on the second boot, it calms down, finds the hardware and carries on quite happily. I've no idea why.)

    Try (as root)

    echo low > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile
If that causes problems, replace low with medium.

  • How to install new laptop battery.

Using HP Support Assistant, my HP G61 110SA laptop battery wouldn't recalibrate so it told me to replace it.  I have now bought a new one but can't find any instructions anywhere on HOW to install it!  Plus, should I fully charge before installation etc..  Any help, advice, info and especially links to instructions would really be appreciated.  I'm using Windows7 64 bit.
    thanks.

    Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
    http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01740724/c01740724.pdf
The procedure to remove and replace the battery can be found in chapter 4, page 4-7.
Once you install your new battery, I recommend you fully charge it.
If you need to use your notebook, use it with the A/C power connected until the battery is charged, if possible.

  • What is the best charge/discharge regime for the laptop battery?

I have a HP G71 340US laptop with 12 cell battery of 8800 mAh design capacity.
It is clear, that keeping the laptop plugged, and always having 100% charged battery is not the most healthy regime for the battery.
I have found from the web that permanently charging and discharging the battery (like charging form 9% to 100% then back to 9% and so on) is also far not the most healthy regime for the battery.
So my question is: what is the most healthy regime for battery charging/discharging, assuming that the AC power source is always available?
It seems there in so software which can support such regime automatically, as charging cannot be stopped programmable, but maybe there is a software which can report corresponding alerts, informing that it is time to start charging or to start discharging?
    This question was solved.

  • Laptop battery odd behavior

I recently purchased the HP PROBOOK 430 G1 13.3 128GB i3-4010u. I'm using it primarily for college for light workloads since I have a custom built PC I used for extensive tasks. However, even with the light workloads, I'm experiencing this odd behavior from my laptops battery. The laptop battery meter goes to 8 percent randomly. I have to put my laptop to sleep then wake it up or reset it then it returns to the normal battery levels. Again there's no pattern to it, it's completely random. I have obversed it since July 22nd when I first got it and got nothing. It probably happened 10-15 times. I don't want to send it in yet for a repair since I can't replicate the problem.
I'm using HPFanControl by troubadix at constant medium fan level so I know it's not heating issues. I also never go above 50c
I also ran the battery diagnostic in BIOS and it gave me no errors.
I also tried to discharged my laptop and it still happened.
    Help?
