  • Laptop battery drains after shut down

Hi, I have bought hp pavilion 15-no28se  six months back,
Its working good, but one issue is contantly irritating me, it is due to its battery drainage after shut down overnight. It almost drains 8-10 percent withing 12 hours. Whereas, I properly shut down it and caliberated as well, but of no use. Although, battery status is OK, and I think battery is fine becasue once I took out battery from laptop for 24 hours, then inserted again and checked it and not a single percent dropped down.
I am so tense that why it is draining when battery works well and properly shut down? Please guide me on this.I am waiting..

    Hello again rocket_sc,
I hope you had a great weekend!
To test, calibrate, and re-synchronize your battery you will need to first follow the steps in this document on Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 8). Once this is completed, and the battery continues to drain, then you can move to re-install the ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
I understand that this process can be a little overwhelming, but not to worry! I would gladly expand on the steps provided above!
To answer your first question: you are not uninstalling the software as you would from Programs and Features (like uninstalling software downloaded from a CD). Instead, you are removing small driver components removable from the Device Manager.
To get the Device Manager, please follow the steps below:
Step 1. Go to Device Manager:
    a. Press the  and type "Device Manager"
    b. Click the Device Manager tab on the top right-hand side.
    c. The Device Manager should be open.
    Step 2. Select Batteries:
    a. Click the right-facing triangle to the left hand side of "batteries"
Step 3. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there
    a. If you see any duplicates of the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery", please select them both.
    Step 4. Click Uninstall
    a. You might also see an option that says "disable." Please disregard this option, and click on Uninstall.
Step 5. At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver
    Step 6. Restart the computer
Step 7: Remove the battery for one minute and then put it back in
When the computer comes back up it should automatically find and install the driver.
Step 8. Go to Device Manager
    a. Press the  and type "Device Manager"
    b. Click the Device Manager tab on the top right-hand side.
    c. The Device Manager should be open.
    Step 9. Select Batteries
    a. Click the right-facing triangle to the left hand side of "batteries"
Step 10. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there (there should only be one).
Step 11. Click "Update Driver Software"
Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.
    a. If you do not see this parcel of software in the Device Manager, please skip this step. If you do, the same steps would include:
    * Right-clicking this device driver in the Device Manager
    * Click on "uninstall"
    * Put a check in the box next to "remove the current driver" and pressing "ok"
    * Restarting the computer
    * Remove the battery for one minute, then re-insert it
    * Return to the Device Manager
    * Right-clicking the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller
    * Click "update driver software"
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • Laptop Appearing Not to Shut Down Sometimes

I have a 15 inch Macbook Pro Mac OS X 10.7.4. Sometimes after I unfold my laptop, I see the log in screen (the log in screen you'd get after the laptop goes to sleep). However, I should not be seeing this screen because I have shut the laptop down, not put it to sleep. A few seconds after unfold the laptop and seeing the screen, the screen turns grey and shuts down. Why is it doing this and how do I fix it? I'm very sure I'm actually shutting the laptop down.

Does the operating system on the laptop have to be shut down completely before the lid should be closed?

  • BRAND New laptop, battery not charging, please help me

Hi, I received my macbook today, and the battery is not charging. When my battery was still charged, I could use my macbook. The led on the charger was green. When it got to 0%, the laptop continued to work. So, I removed the charger (brillant idea) and it stop. Now, I can't start my laptop, and the led is yellow. The battery can't charge more than one "square" (which I can see on the battery itself). When I try to boot, I get the starting white screen, but then it shut down.
    What should I do?

    I forgot to tell...
I tried to remove the battery, push the power button for 5 sec, and then restart, but without success.
After 15 minutes of "charging" (while the laptop is off), the led turns from yellow to green.

  • MacBook battery 100% charged, shut down, 8 hours later found no charge.

I fully charged my computer last night and shut it down. When I got this morning and went to turn it on, I was unable to. I plugged in the powercord and discovered that the battery had completely drained.
Has this happened to anyone else?
    Any ideas why this happened?
    Thanks.

As the previous poster suggested, my guess is that you didn't actually succeed in shutting it down.
Because the MacBook has a sudden motion sensor, if you move the MacBook during the shutdown process, shutdown may not complete and the MacBook stays on.
Best advice: when shutting down be sure shutdown is complete before moving the MacBook or closing it's lid.
This is really important before bagging a notebook computer. It is not a pretty sight when they wake up unexpectedly in a bag with no air flow.

  • [W520] Does not start on battery only, doesnt shut down or sleep

    Hi all,
I have quite a huge problem after flooding my W520 with tea. Obviously immediately after spilling it I flipped the machine, unplugged ac, took out the battery. Few days after laptop didnt start so I had it serviced. The keyboard was changed and whole interior was cleaned. At home I tried to power on the laptop (with battery only) but with no reaction, then plugged ac and computer started itself (I didnt press the power button). When it starts it is possible to unplug the ac, and it works on battery.
Second problem is that the machine doesnt want to powerr off or sleep. It shuts down for 2-3 second then automatically starts (both on ac and when already started with battery). To shut down I have to take out the battery and ac. (Tried all possible stuff, WOL, Always on mode and so on but nothing works) ;/
Called the service with explanation but nobody seemed to know how to fix it. If you have any ideas that could solve the problem please help...

    Hi,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that you spilled tea in your Lenovo ThinkPad W520 and you are facing multiple issues with the system.
I would suggest you to perform Flee Power – remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer. Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect the AC Adapter and battery and try to turn ON the computer.
I would suggest you to update BIOS to the latest version, try swapping with a good known AC adapter and battery.
Basically there's 3 power sources for the motherboard ac adapter, laptop battery and CMOS battery. If either of them goes bad or is malfunctioning you might experience strange behavior. If you have confirmed the functionality of the above said, it probably points to a system board failure.
    Regards,
    Mithun.

  • Iphone 5c has battery problems and shuts down even after charging, just upgraded to 8.2, no help, what is my next option?

the iphone 5c still has problems with battery life and shuts down after complete charge.  this happened after 8.1 update, I tried every way to shut things down, still no luck.  what can I do next?

I did a soft reset, and I went to the discussion and turned every down or off.  This is definitely a hardware problem.

  • Battery not charging when plugged in

I have a Pavillion g6-1d11dx laptop and I have two problems (and I don’t know if they are related). First, I have been having trouble with the battery not charging while it is plugged in to the AC outlet. The battery icon in the systray currently says “40% available (plugged in, not charging)” and the percentage has been consistently going down over many weeks. Most recently, when I unplug it from the AC it no longer goes to battery reserve, it just loses power entirely (and when I plug it back in and turn on the power I get the “system was not shut down properly…” message).
Second, and I don’t know if this is related, but for several weeks the fan has been running, seemingly non-stop, especially overnight. I don’t know if it’s relevant, but I have a scheduled nightly (1 am) definitions update and full scan that usually takes about 2 to 2-1/2 hours. But my wife says no matter when she gets up in the middle of the night, the fan is always running, and the unit has been very hot. My wife has been concerned about a fire (though it's not a model listed in the recall). I downloaded a BIOS update from the HP website hoping that would help. The fan seems to have been running less, but hasn’t stopped entirely.
I wanted to see if I could detect any problems with the battery, so I went through all the suggested troubleshooting protocols listed on the HP website, but ran into a hitch when I tried to use the HP Support Assistant utility on the laptop. When it opens, the Support Assistant displays "An error occurred" (instead of "Support Assistant") in the window's title bar and the system variables ([Product Name], [Serial Number] and [Product Number]) listed in the Support Assistant status bar all say "Loading...", but never do load. When I go to the Maintain mode to check the battery status, it says "No pending action", and, as suggested on the HP website, I click the Refresh button (then, in the pop-up window that appears, I choose the “Check all updates, but install only important updates automatically” radio button, then click OK). But while the result page displays “Pass” on the checks for “Connect to HP servers” and “Preparing the action list”, it displays “Fail” on the checks for “Downloading updates”, “Gathering information” and “Analyzing your system”. Oddly, when I run the system check from te HP website, it DOES auto-detect my system info (Serial Number: 5CG21919LT; Product Number: B7S84UA).
I tried to open the HP Connection Manager utility, but I get the HPConnectionManager.exe fails to load ("Cannot load assembly: CaslShared, Version=3.5.1.1, Culture=neutral,  PublicKeyToken=9c6f83d5b7f3d097. The application will now exit.").
Can someone tell me how to properly connect to HP to allow the utilities to do their diagnoses? And/or why my battery isn’t charging and I can’t get a system diagnostic?

I should note that this unit is pretty new: purchased in august 2012.

  • Endless Switching between Adapter and Battery/Not Charging

My battery is from fall of 2007 (I received it during the recall.)
The little battery icon on the top of the screen is endlessly flickering between the charging symbol and an almost dead battery symbol. If I open energy saver, it tells me that the computer is switching back and forth between the two power sources: my Power Adapter, and my battery, with my battery perpetually stuck at 1%. This seems to me to be more than just the battery not charging, but since my computer is indeed running off of the adapter, I wanted to see if perhaps this was just its way of telling me the battery is no longer charging. Also, any advice on getting the battery to hold something, at least for a little longer (my new job gives me a computer in August, so I'm just trying to stretch this one as much as possible.)
    Thanks in advance!

    BUMP -
I'm having a similar problem. Will keep scanning the older posts on this board, but:
I just replaced a lost MacAlly G4 Adapter with a new one (MacAlly). It charges the Powerbook when I leave the computer shut-down (so I'm not screwed ...), but when powered-up with the adapter plugged into the G4, the battery symbol alternates between the charging symbol & the battery status symbol - and slowly drains. The screen also dims & brightens.

  • DV4 1275 Power Issue, Battery not charging, Will not Power with AC only

    HP Pavillion DV4-1275mx
Battery will not charge, Laptop will not fully turn on with battery in (battery not charging at all).  Laptop will not power on at all with no battery using only AC and with battery it will attempt to load and die due to lack of charge.
Have tried 3 diff HP chargers.
The orginial 1 that came with the laptop is dead and will not charge anything. Tried it on a diff HP laptop and not recognizing any power
The 2nd one is OE HP laptop diff model but same wattage that came with my gfs work laptop.  I have charge my laptop with it before in the past however it is not charging the battery now either
The 3rd is a aftermarket generic one that my g/f bought in the airport and it works with hers as well however I have never used it on mine.
I have tried hard resetting.. taking out battery, holding power for a min and replugging everything.
Also when I remove the battery and plug in either of the chargers that do work the power LED are "not" lighting up on the front or the LED where the AC plugs into the laptop.  Which makes you think the charger is bad however the 2 working chargers do work on my other 2 HP laptops.
If i plugin one of the 2 working chargers with the battery it will go through the boot process and as its starting windows it just dies and shuts off.  The power led by the DC jack does light up and the charging light on the front lights up. However this only works when I unplug the battery and plug the AC charger in. After the laptop boots up to starting windows and dies. I have to remove the battery and replace it to get the LEDS to light back up..  If the MB was bad I wouldnt think any of the LED's would come on nor would the laptop boot up to the starting windows. If  keep trying to turn it on the booting time is shortened as the battery is not holding a charge and sometimes it only makes a few seconds and then just dies out.
I dont have alot of money to spend so I was hoping maybe you could point me in the right direction.
Should I buy the replacement part OE charger for my specific laptop? (not sure if its going to be much diff than the others since they are all 65 watt chargers)
Should I buy a new battery as well?
Or does this sound like a short problem in the mother board or a solder issue with the DC plugin?
If it is an issue with the motherboard I do not want to go through the hassle of buying the battery and charger as I will end up having to just replace the laptop
If you could please advise me what direction to go I would be so greatful.

Dude, I have the same exact problem with mine. It's not a cheap fix either. It definitely is the motherboard.
I'm no expert, but I believe the problem is a dead capacitor on the motherboard preventing it to build up a charge.
I spoke with an HP rep, which told me it's $398 for them to fix.
I let them know that I didn't have another $400 to put into this laptop. So, they suggested I try reseating the motherboard. And also reseating the memory modules.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01597750.pdf
That is a pdf of the laptop's manual. It'll help in reseating. Page ( 59 ) for the motherboard. Page ( 67 ) for the memory modules.
This hasn't helped at all with mine, but maybe it'll help with yours!

  • Macbook Pro 2011 battery not charging error code

My Macbook Pro just turned 1 year old and the battery might be defective or dead ( Warranty just passed by ) it originally cam with Snow Leopard but I WEB upgraded to Lion (which was far from being easy ... had alot of crashes and hanging happening)
I have the now infamous battery not charging problem. The OSX status bar shows the battery icon with a 'X' meaning no battery. I think the MacBook is not charging the battery because OSX doesn't see a battery.
Today I just noticed that (IMPORTANT) with the power adapter connected, pressing the battery power level button displays a 5 blinks code. Otherwise with power adaptor not connected, the battery seems even too weak to light up even a single LED".
Even though I do a proper shutdown, it is to note that the MacBook Pro starts right away when I plug the power adaptor. I starts right away without me even pressing the power button.
Yerterday I really though the MacBook Pro was not going to work anymore, it kept abruptly shuting down again and again. I couldn't do any of the work I was supposed to.
I did PRAM and SMC resets and eventually I was able to startup the MacBook Pro and do some work but the battery still remains unavailable.
I have 2 of the same 85 Watt charger ( the first one being from a previous MacBook Pro 2008 --- which is waiting to get a repair ) and both performs the same: not charging.
Maybe the battery discharged beyond the point it can be seen my the MacBook Pro and OSX. Just like car battery, if it get discharges way too much, you won't even see the nominal voltage on the terminals even without any load.
EDIT: just noticed that even though it looks like no battery OSX reports that power source IS BATTERY (in the OSX status top bar )

It's like mpg for a car. It depends upon how you drive, the weather, the terrain. "7 hours" doesn't mean anything. Your mileage will vary. If I am not doing anything I see 13 hours. As soon as I start surfing or watching a video it changes. Stop obsessing.

  • "Battery Not Charging"... Cold weather problem

I think I have figured out that that charging device does not work when the computer is cold.
This is the 2nd time it has happened. I reset PRAM and PMU with no change. Then later it spontaneously fixed itself when the sun started hitting the van. Thinking possibly when the computer is cold it happens, since it was 17º this morning and the computer was asleep all night. I had run the battery that evening depleting it totally. However, the night before it was -11º and the problem did not happen, possibly because I had left it running all night with no disk spindown.
Also, looking backwards at Oct 29 of the first occurrence, yes we did have a cold spell and a snowstorm, I remember now it hit about 17º.
So it seems like this is a problem when the charging device is cold (actually my cellphone does the same thing). The solution would be to keep the disk spinning full time while it is below about 25º. Or maybe even put some insulation over the computer.
I had a 1.6 PowerBook earlier that never showed this problem. It charged normally down to -5º. So perhaps this is an Intel oddity.
I realize I am running the MacBook at 63º below tech specs, so please refrain...

I think I have the same problem. Macbook Pro indicates shortly it doesn't charge, then turns to charging. But the last time it stuck to 'battery not charging'. Then I played for about fifteen minutes, warming up the video card (and it does get warm) and now it charges again.
It remains a strange problem and I will see the MacStore about it.

  • MacBook Pro will only last till 90% battery and then shuts down. Tried smc reset to no avail.

MacBook pro only lasts a few minutes on battery and then shuts down!

    elgordo8251 wrote:
How long do these batteries usually last?
It varies. Some do not even last 1 year but others 4+ years.
    Apple provides only 1year warranty.
    Best.
