Laptop can no longer connect - Hub doesn't seem to see it any more

Hi Please bear with me - this is probably going to be long! I have been tearing my hair out for the last 36 hours trying all sorts of things to get my laptop to connect to the hub, but to no avail. Also, I am no tech expert - everything I know I find out by googling/reading forums like these. It used to connect, no problem.Laptop (an old Dell, running XP Pro) still 'sees' the Skyhub.But it seems the Skyhub no longer sees the laptop (not in list of wireless devices).My Samsung tablet and my son's Chromebook both connect successfully to Skyhub.Laptop connects successfully with nearby unsecured BT-FON networks.Laptop connects successfully with Skyhub via ethernet cable.  Things I've tried (not sure i can remember them all, haha):Disabled firewallTurned off encryptionRan windows update to laptop while connected via ethernetPinged what I think is the hub's IP address (192.168.0.1)  Nothing. 4 packets sent, 0 received, 4 packets lost.Used cmd prompt to try various suggestions I've read on forums - renewing IP, flushing winsock, etc. Don't understand half of what I did but I typed commands carefully, but didn't solve connection problem.I have tried changing the channel at both the hub end and the laptop end.I have tried entering IP address manually (and subnet mask and gateway and DNS servers). Didn't work so set it all back to 'obtain automatically'.I have pressed button on hub until light flashed 4 times, thereby putting it back to factory settings.A windows diagnostic test shows IP address failure after trying to connect to Skyhub.I have uninstalled/reinstalled/tried updating the wireless network card on my laptop. It says it is working properly.I have opened inSSIDer, and laptop quite clearly sees the Skyhub, and is receiving a strong signal. I'm a bit confused why it says the security is "WPA2-Enterprise". The Skyhub itself says security is WPA2-PSK (AES)Mindst, even with security turned off, laptop still cannot connect. So:Skyhub is still working on wired PC, and wirelessly for tablet and chromebook.Laptop is still working because it can connect okay to neighbouring networks. As a non-techie, it seems to me that something is stopping the hub from 'seeing' the laptop, and assigning it an IP address. I have to say that your problem Louise seems very close to mine. My work laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad T430, reasonably up-to-date) has secure direct access connection capability to my employer's network. However, while the laptop connects easily by wireless connection to my Sky router no internet access from the router outwards. This is a recent (last 1 – 2 months) issue and started as intermittent – the internet connection would come and go without any apparent rhyme or reason. It is now apparently a permanent issue. It is also only a wireless problem - it seems to connect to the internet OK by cable to the router. This is while at the same time other devices connected to the router get internet access fine. There are only about 7 or 8 devices max connecting wirelessly to the router at any given session. My workplace IT Service staff have investigated but washed their hands of the issue as the laptop connects fine both wirelessly and by cable to the workplace corporate network. My Sky router is a Sagem model (no model no. is evident – it’s an older model then the current Hubs) of probably 5 or 6 years vintage (I’m note sure of that). Does anyone have any suggestions? I should also say that at present I can’t access or alter any of the laptop connection settings because the work’s IT Services won’t give me the necessary device admin rights yet equally won’t attempt to resolve it because it’s my home network issue! Don’t let that put you off suggesting connection setup fixes though (I’ll happily put these to workplace IT Services! Specifically though – is there way to restore the router’s firmware to the last time it worked? Mark

    I've been using KIES for a year.  Was just prompted to update it.  Did so (to version 2.6.0.13091.9) and now I can no longer connect my laptop and Galaxy S4.
    I'm getting the following message which is, of course, nearly worthless:
         Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode.
         Current connection mode not supported by Kies.
         Check the USB settings.
         (Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging (x))
    1) "PC Studio" has no actual meaning; after searching online I found what they're trying to tell me is the phone must be in MTP mode rather than USB debugging mode.
    2) The Settings path above is wrong; I DID manage to find the proper path to turn off debugging & switch to MTP, but that doesn't help.
    3) uninstalled & reinstalled KIES; no help
    Any ideas? 
    I know 1000's of other people are having this problem, so I'm a bit surprised VZ doesn't have a ready answer here.

  • TS1398 I can no longer connect to my home wireless on my ipad2, have done all the suggested fixes, still cannot connect.  Daughter cannot connect her iPod, but husbands laptop is connected to wireless.

    All of a sudden my ipad will not connect to our home wireless.  I have reset the wireless settings, turned my ipad off and back on, turned off wireless and back on, basically have done all of the fixes suggested and still I cannot connect.  My daughter cannot connect her iPod either, but my husbands laptop can and is connected to our wireless.  The wireless is working and until two days ago I had no problems connecting.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app

        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • XBOX 360 can no longer connect

    My BT homehub router completely stopped working after a lightning storm a couple of weeks ago.  I got sent a new router and sent the old one back.  Plugged it in and everything worked great.
    Unfortunately I started up my xbox 360 today and it can no longer connect to the router.  It is wired directly to the router.  I can't even get to the screen when it asks me to configure the network.
    I have tried changing the cable, unplugging everything and plugging everything back in, switching everything on and off, resetting my xbox to factory settings.  I'm completely at a loss. 
    Can anyone help?!

    It could be that they have sent you a refurbished homehub. Try a factory reset of the homehub by pressing a pin into the recess on the rear for about 20 seconds. This will reset the homehubs configuration settings.
    Retry connecting your xbox. If it still won't connect try connecting to a different port on the hub. If it still won't connect can you plug a laptop or your PC into the hub to ensure that the ports are OK.

  • Apple TV can no longer connect to network after upgrade.

    I had heard that lots of people were affected with this problem with the software upgrade before this one so I deliberately waiting until this one came out before taking a chance. I was wrong.
    After updating to 4.4. (3140) I can no longer connect to my network. It says there was a problem and gave the error messaged number: (5) in brackets.
    I've had nothing but problems with both Apple TV's that I have owned, version 1 and this new version 2. I've a good signal from my router and I've used three different ones over the time I've had the two apple tvs.
    Anyone got any ideas.
    I can't connect the apple tv directly because they are too far apart in the house. I can only connect by wifi.
    There is nothing wrong with my wifi because I'm connected to it fine though my imac, iphone and ipad and laptop, (not all at the same time)

    Ok, here's a solution, courtesy of our friends at AppleCare.  
    Unplug the router for 90 seconds.
    I was running ATV2 with a Time Capsule.   The TC thought the ATV was still connected using its former IP address so wouldn't let it reconnect with a new one.
    Hope this works for anyone else with same problem.

    My wireless connection was fine (using MacBook). After upgrading iTunes, I can not longer connect to router/modem wirelessly - am tethered with an ethernet cable. Spent 1 1/2 hours on phone with AT&T support reseting the passwords, security, etc. A PC laptop accepts password and can connect. My iPhone still can connect. But my MacBook (OS X 10.6) will not recognize my password for the modem/router. Everything has been re-booted and reset to original settings. Also, I received an iPad yesterday and it won't accept the password for our home wireless network. The password is correct because I am using it on other devices that are connecting to the network. Any ideas?

    Yes, but the issue is not with Lion directly; there seems to be something with the upgraded system, perhaps a legacy setting or pref... I've scoured the system to no avail. I'm actually about to reinstall 10.6 - wasted too much time on this issue.

    I recently (sept 2013) installed itunes update and can no longer connect to a network nor internet wired /wireless. I know it is not the gateway as other devices work. Please help. I am not very knowledgable so exact instructions will be most helpful.

    Try connecting your computer/laptop directly to the base station with an ethernet cable to one of the external ports and install your network settings. If it finds it there, it will find it after you've reloaded your network info to the base via the Apple Utility. Hopefully when you disconnect afterward, all will be fine. Be sure not to select "closed" network although Macs will login with no prolem, PC's have trouble doing so even with the network data stored in the internet settings.

  • IBook can no longer connect to wireless network

    I have a wireless network set up in my home using a Linksys wireless router. While it has worked fine in the past, I can no longer connect to it with my G4 iBook running 10.3.9. It shows up in my network connections with a strong signal but when I open a browser it can't connect to the internet. When I try to open 'Internet Connect' to explore the issue I get the spinning beach ball and have to Force Quit. When I open the network status window, I get a message for Airport that says "Airport is connected to the network 'name of my network'. Airport does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the Internet".
    I have an iMac G5 connected to the router through ethernet cable and it works fine. I have an iMac G4 connected wirelessly to the same wireless router and it works fine. I have a Dell laptop that can also connect wirelessly to the wireless router with no problem.
    It appears something is corrupt with the Internet Connect utility?
    Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    What type of IP address are you getting? If it starts with 169, it indicates that your iBook can not connect to the DHCP server provided by the router.
    Have you enabled the MAC address filtering on the router? If so, remember that you must add the AirPort MAC address for your iBook.
    If you have a correct IP address, perhaps it is a DNS issue. See KB 106798, Mac OS: Troubleshooting "A connection failure has occurred", "The specified server could not be found" or Similar Messages.

  • Since the new Mevericks update my Air can no longer connect to a shared Itunes lib on Macbook Pro

    Hi,
    I have two mac laptops at home. My pro and my air. I have it setup so that I stream all my media from my pro to my air.
    I updated my pro to the newest Mavericks version. Since that update I can no longer connect to my library on my pro via my air.
    Please note that this problem here is with the mac book pro! I updated my air last night and i could still stream.
    All I get is the usual "loading library" (on my air's itunes) but it never connects.
    Other than restarting the application (on both computers) and restarting (both computers) what else can I do?
    Are other people having the same problem??

    Unfortunately I cannot get any of the OS X browsers I have tried to get beyond the accepting the site's certificate. All just stall waiting on the Outlook Web Access site. Safari 3.1, Camino, Flock, Firefox (2.0.0.12 and 3 beta 4), Netscape (7.1 and 9), Microsoft's Internet Explorer (thinking that might be more integrated with its Outlook Web Access package).
    I have even deleted the certificates from my Keychain (for Safari) or within the other browsers' preferences.
    Last night I even re-applied the 10.4.11 combo updater and then checked for software updates to confirm my system was up to date, but again without success when attempting to reach the Outlook Web Access site.

  • With verson 12.01.26 my iTunes can no longer connect to the iTunes store or iTunes Match

    After downloading iTunes version 12.01.26 on my PC my iTunes can no longer connect to the iTunes store or iTunes Match. My itunes displayed a message at the top that it was connecting to the iTunes Store. After closing my laptop and opening it again after a few hours, there was a message stating that my computer was unable to connect to iTunes because of a problem with my internet connection. My laptop is connecting fine with the internet, yet not through the iTunes program, or at least it seems that way. I'm not positive but  feel like the issue may have stemmed when I downloaded the new version, I think maybe I messed up the process somehow by closing my computer or something.

    I have the same problem after loading OS X 10.10 Yosemite on my MacBook Pro (Late 2008).  Wi-Fi (Time Capsule) connects OK, then I open Safari and it waits for a minute and then gives me a message that it can't load the page because I'm not connected to the Internet.  The Wi-Fi is fine.  When I run the network analysis, it shows that everything is fine up to the Internet; the dots are red after that.  I have another MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) and it loaded and runs with no known problems (so far).  I am writing this message on the Late 2008 MacBook Pro, so you can see that there is no problem with the Internet connection.  It is a Yosemite problem.  My iPhone and newer MacBook Pro connect with no problem.  I loaded Yosemite TWICE, then ran the Disk Utility and fixed some disk permissions but there were no other problems identified.  Restarting after reloading Yosemite and the same problem is there.  Restarted after running the disk utility and fixing disk permissions and it still can't connect to the Internet.  Same problem.  Does anyone have an idea how this might be fixed?  What's going on?  Thanks for your help.

    I can no longer connect my iPad Mini 2 w/ iOS 8.1.2 to connect to my iPhone 6 (iOS 8.1.2, Verizon Wireless) running Personal Hotspot.The iPad displays the error "Remote Hotspot Failure - Unable to start personal hotspot "iPhone.  However, my Windows 8.1 laptop connects to the iPhone just fine. The iPad connection problem occurs with or without the Windows laptop connected or even turned on.
    Both the iPhone and iPad have Bluetooth and WiFi on, and the iPhone has Hotspot active. The iPad shows the iPhone Personal Hotspot on the WiFi Settings page, but throws the error each time i attempt to connect. Additionally, the iPhone shows 1 Connection on Personal Hotspot even though I have no devices connected. I have reset my network settings twice on both the iPhone and iPad.
    BTW - I used to be able to connect the iPad to the Hotspot prior to updating to iOS 8.1.2 on both devices.

    Forgetting the hotspot on the iPad sent me in the right direction. I now have it working correctly, and seem to have diagnosed the cause.
    The cause seems to be that I had connected the iPad to the Hotspot via Bluetooth. Once I figured out how to delete that link, I was finally able to connect to the Hotspot. Here is what I had to do:
    On the iPhone:
    - Turn on WiFi and Bluetooth
    - Turn on Personal Hotspot and change the Hotspot password (this may not have been necessary, but things are now working)
    On the iPad:
    Reset all network settings:
    Settings -> General -> Reset (at bottom of page) -> Reset Network Settings (deletes all known networks and their passwords and restarts the iPad)
    Turn on WiFi and Bluetooth (I had found that Bluetooth must be on is necessary in some other research)
    DO NOT CONNECT TO THE PERSONAL HOTSPOT USING BLUETOOTH - DON'T GO THERE!
    Connect to the Hotspot using WiFi
    Settings ->WiFi
    - Wait until you see "iPhone" under PERSONAL HOTSPOTS (or maybe CHOOSE A NETWORK)
    - Select "iPhone"
    - Enter the (new) password that you set on for the PERSONAL HOTSPOT on the iPhone
    You should now be connected via WiFi
    Bottom line: Unless you have some VERY compelling reason to connect to the Hotspot via Bluetooth, NEVER do it. WiFi speed is multiples that of Bluetooth. With WiFi using Broadband Speedtest over Verizon LTE - 2 bars/dots - I am consistently getting between 15 and 20 Mb download and 3-15 Mb upload. With Bluteooth using the same test, I was getting about 1 Mb maximum upload and download.
    I hope this solves the problem for all reading this thread. And thank you ManSinha for the helpful clue.
