You can buy a USB SDHC reader that plugs into your USB ports. Looks a lot like a flash drive. Other than that, your only option is to get an external card reader. If you have Windows XP, you will likely need a Microsoft patch to enable SDHC card support.

Why does iPhoto not recognize the .jpg pics from a Kodak C875 now? I can stick my memory card in the iMac and import them that way, but iPhoto will not import the pics from the camera.

There have been many issues reported with Kodak cameras - serach the forums for them
Actually the best practise is to use a card reader to import your photos, verify that they are imported ocrrectly and wait at least one backup cycle and then use the camera's format command to reformat the card and erase it - this assures no lost photos and always having the card properly formatted

iMac can't read usb card, says need correct codec, how do I get correct codec?

What Mac OS are you running (from "About this Mac" in your Apple menu).
Codecs are usually required for viewing videos and should not affect whether the USB drive mounts. Can you tell us what kind of file your are trying to run from the USB drive? The pre-2006 iMacs this forum covers are no longer supported by most modern codecs

  • Satellite L670-DX1 - after SP1 installation can't use memory card reader

    Hi
Since I have upgraded my Satellite L670-DX1 from Win7 64Bits to Win7 64 bits SP1 (2 days ago) I can't use my memory card reader anymore, it always says it is a bad card and I should better reformat the card, with any card.
Does anyone have a similar problem or even better a solution for me?
    Greetings

yes i have installed sp1 using windows updater, i have tried to let the laptop search for new drivers, and i have the newest, i can't role it back because some virusscanning software makes it fail (allthough i made them inactive after cutting the wireless connection and before putting the old configurations back)

  • E71: Phone refuses to read memory card after conne...

    Hi,
I'm having a peculiar problem. Every single time I connect my E71 to my laptop via cable and PC Suite, after a few moments the phone refuses to recognize the memory card. I cannot transfer data directly to the card. I have tried the PC Suite Mode, the Mass Storage mode and the Media Transfer mode but the card is still not picked up.
What's worse is that after disconnection, the phone says that it can't access the card so the default message store is now the phone memory. As a result, I can't see my SMS or mail messages and MfE says there is no profile configured.
If I then wait for several minutes, or restart the phone, it all starts working again. I've tried this on 2 laptops, both running XP Pro SP3 and the latest PC Suite but it's still thw same problem. Can anyone help?
Thank you for clicking on the green star if this has helped you!

    Hi,
Okay, this is not necessarily a 'solution' in that it doesn't allow you to use the phone the way it should be used, but...
I set the profile to "Offline" and then fire up PC Suite and then connect the phone with the USB Cable in "PC Suite" mode.
If I do this, the phone behaves properly after disconnection and the memory card is recognized without any hassle.
The advantage of this (if there is one) is that you won't get interrupted by a pesky call right in the middle of an 80MB data transfer. You know what hell that plays with the phone if a call comes in between! ;-)

  • Iphoto can't read camera card

memory card from my camera can't be read in other words i can't download my pictures onto my macbook pro

    Keith,
Thanks for your reply. After going to their website http://www.vupointsolutions.com (which I didn't find earlier because Google searches inundate you with sellers rather than OEM links), I found some more clues. The FAQ for this particular camera states no drivers are needed for Windows XP and 2000. This is typically true for standard USB devices like memory card readers and hard drives and those usually also work on a Mac so I'm getting more confident that it will work.
But, there was another odd entry in the FAQ that kind of turns me off. It states that its normal for the camera to drain the batteries dead even when its not being used. It has internal SDRAM to keep alive. If the batteries die, you lose any photos stored in the internal memory and they recommend using an SD card.
For a few dollars more (approx $112), I'm leaning towards the Nikon Coolpix L10 or Canon A460. I can use it myself when I don't want to lug the Canon Digital Rebel around.

  • Palm TX won't read memory card

I bought a memory card for my Palm TX.  I'd like to transfer files from the handheld to the card.  When I go to the doc and click "Send to Card" I get a message saying there is no card.  I know the card is correctly installed, as it only goes in one way and it does click into place.  Is there something I'm missing here?  Any suggestions?  Thanks, FKpalmnovice

RPCVCAR, did you use an old HotSync account name when you Hotsynced the info to the device that came from an earlier device than the TX?
This would scramble lots of things on a newer device.  Best check to determine the problem of Hardware vs. software is to:
    In short:
    - hard reset
    - locate backup folder under palm desktop folder tree
    - rename to backup_old
    - sync, select old id. This will bring back PIMs (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Memos) but no settings nor programs
    - reinstall applications one by one AFTER making sure they are compatible with the target device.

Help please!Sounds like the other person failed to properly eject the card from their computer and corrupted the card. My advice would be to get copies fo the photos from the other person and format the card. There are other options for recovering data from a corrupted card which include specialized software or sending the card to a professional recovery service.

My MacBook Pro can't read the SDHC cards. What should I do???
    Please help me.....

    Hi
Can you notice yellow exclamation mark in device manager?
Normally the Satellite L40 can read SDHC cards up to 8GB so my question is have you tried different brands of SDHC cards?
I have good experience with Kingston and SanDisk cards.
Furthermore you should check the Toshiba website for an update of the card reader:

Last but not least have you installed all Service Packs and Updates for Windows?

DMA driver error. CRC error. Burn failled.
    Solved !
I change the IDE cable with one of 80 wires.
    This is MAGIC !!!
The 80-conductor cable was first defined with the original Ultra DMA modes 0, 1 and 2, covering transfer speeds up to 33.3 MB/s.
The cable is considered "optional" for those modes.
However, for any Ultra DMA modes above mode 2, the 80-conductor cable is mandatory.

  • Cwdss.exe error: can't read memory location

I have 3 PCs running XP, Service Pack 1, each with a frame-grabber card, either NI 1409 and 1409. They run identical code. Each one reads the active video channels in sequence, and saves the new image locally on a DataSocket server. These are in remote locations, with seldom a visitor. The users are near a 4th machine, which gets images from the other 3 by reading their DataSocket servers. It is slower, since it does calculations on each image. This runs 24 hours a day, but about once a day one of the 3 image-capture machines--always the same one--halts, displaying an error message and waiting for someone to notice the message and push "OK". After that, it just keeps on going as if the error was no big problem. But of course it is a problem, since the halt is not noticed for a while.
The error window is titled "Socket Notification Sink: csdss.exe Application Error". It then explains that "The instruction at location 0x0040aaf7 referenced memory at 0x482f6f72. This memory could not be 'read'." It always shows the same instruction and the same read address.
What is this telling me? How can I tell what is going on at the address cited? How can it work for hours and then try an out-of-bounds read? Why does this happen with only one of the three machines? Could this be some infrequent timing conflict between reading and writing to the DataSocket?

I am running Labview 6.1 on a Windows XP machine (Service Pack 1). I never run the code without the DataSocket, since the whole point is offer new images when needed to the PC in the room with the users, which does all the serious calculations. The image is stored in the DataSocket server as a 640 by 480 integer array of either U8 or I16 format, depending on the type of frame-grabber. The machine with the errors has a 1409 and so gets 10-bit data, saved in I16 format. The odd aspects, again, are that the program runs without a hitch for a day or so, then does this illegal read, and that the same code runs on two other machines without this problem ever showing up.
    Thanks,

  • Help! My laptop won't read SD cards anymore.

The last time it was able to read an SD card was about a month ago, then all of a sudden it stopped.  The SD card is good.  My printer can read it, and it's the same SD card I used last time in my laptop.  To start with, I'm using an HP-G61 420 CA, and I'm running windows 7.  I'm not the most savvy user but I was able to find that info.  My laptop has been giving me a lot of issues lately...it over heats like crazy and shuts down when it hits 90 degrees.  A few automatic updates have taken place since I was last able to read an SD card, and I've run a few scans using Advanced SystemCare 6 (free version).  Is there any way to fix this problem?

    Hello Doogsfx,
I understand that your SD card reader is not working.
First you need to make sure that there is not a buildup of dust inside the computer by cleaning the vents with a can of compressed air.
    Do a hard reset.
    Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.
This should reset the hardware in the computer.
As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
    Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.
When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.
If the card is not working go to device manger and uninstall the card reader.
    Restart the computer.
This will uninstall and reinstall the driver for the card reader.
Here is a link that will show you how to get to device manager.
Since it has not been to long since the problem started and your think some updates may have come through before this started happening, you can run a system restore.
This will take the system back to when everything was working correctly without affecting your personal files.
Here is a link on how to do a restore.
Let me know how everything goes.

  • OS X can't read SD card/kernel panic, windows XP or Vista

I'm using my friend's camera. It comes with an SD card. I tried to upload the photos to my macbook but every time i hook it up, i instantaneously get a kernel panic. On my brother's macbook, nothing happens. Literally nothing. He doesn't get a kernel panic, but it doesn't even mount.
On my dad's laptop, which is a PC, everything's ok. It shows up without problems.
    What gives??

I don't have the camera with me right now but first of all, I really doubt manufacturers of cameras also make the SD disks. Second of all, and I'm less sure about this, this seems to be a problem with my laptop and OS X, not the disk itself.
