Laptop cannot acquire IP address

Hi. I’ve been connecting to my WRT54G router for about a year on my laptop. Last night, I briefly changed the security settings on the Adviser, but then changed them back. Now, I cannot get my laptop to detect the IP address of the router. I typed in the WPA Encryption key and the laptop does detect the network, but it can’t pull in the IP. Can anyone help? Thanks

Use a network cable to connect the computer to wireless router, then go to router management page, ensure the wireless setting is correct and DHCP setting is enabled. Here is a simple wireless router configuration article. The wireless adapter's setting must match the wireless router setting, then can only join the network.
In order to connect wirelessly, you can also try to assign IP and other network info manually.
Hope helps..

  • WRT54G - cannot acquire network address

    Hi All,
I having a particularly difficult problem I have not been able to solve. I've searched linksys forums, compaq forums, and google in general. Here are the particulars:
    EQUIPMENT:
    Linksys WRT54G Ver 3 router
    Compaq Presario V2000 laptop
    with Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN (built-in)
    PROBLEM:
When attempting to connect wireless to the 54G v3, an IP is never successfully acquired from the DHCP. It fails during the "acquiring network address" phase, and returns with "limited or no connectivity". IP acquisition failure is confirmed with an IPconfig address of 169.254.x.x (APIPA).
    CONFIGURATION:
    1. this is a new installation (laptop & router are clean, out-of-box)
    2. Vanilla parameters on WRT54G (no security, etc.)
    3. Upgrade firmware (on 54G), run factory reset to default parameters, assigned a SSID = sully
    THINGS TRIED:
    1. Compaq works FINE when connected wireless to another router (54G ver 2).
    2. A different laptop (Dell) works fine with the Ver 3 router (wireless).
    3. Wired connection works fine with Compaq to Ver 3 router.
    4. Upgraded firmware on 54G ver 3 to current.
    5. Download & re-install broadcom drivers from Compaq (which are actually OLDER than the ones originally on the machine)
    6. Tried adjusting beacon, fragmentation & RTS as per a posting elswhere on this site.
    7. Tried MS patch KB884020, as per a posting elsewhere on this site (and have since backed it out).
    8. Tried resetting the TCP/IP stack as per MS KB299357 & KB811259.
I'm stumped and apparently so are all the standard tech support channels.
    Any Ideas?
PLEASE (I don't mean to be arrogant - just frustrated with inadequate/incompetent support) - don't send me the "canned" newbie "try this" responses. EVERYTHING has been tried and this simply makes no sense. I appears to me to be a problem specific to compaq/broadcom & linksys 54G ver3 and no one wants to take ownership of the problem.

I have exactly the same problem with same laptop Compaq Presario V2000 with the same network adapter, although I'm using a different router BEFW11S4.  I was able to get connection by using an static IP and DNS address, however I can't go online. Tech support hasn't been able to help me so I wanted to know if you were able to get a solution to your problem.
By the way, I can use my laptop with a Netgear router and I don't get this problem.
    Thanks

  • 6600 cannot acquire email address

Hello, I just bought my Officejet 6600 all in one Wireless. I thougt everything went well but the printer is still trying to acquire the email address for the past 3 hours.  I have set everything and I cannot seem to find the problem.
    Thank you!

    Why Facebook?
Nope, can't have mistyped my email the first time, because I'm using it right now And I've tried to sign into FaceTime with this email so many times.

  • Can't Acquire IP Address - Please Help!

Please help! I recently bought an aluminum macbook and despite having no problem connecting to my home network through airport, have been unable to connect to the network at the school where I teach.
We have several mac experts at my school, a mac lab, and a mac specialist at our school board, but no one has been able to help me. Here is how my most "mac literate" student describes the problem I am experiencing:
The computer cannot acquire IP address from our wireless network.
We have tried multiple logins (including one that is known to work on the network from another computer) but we still cannot get an IP address.
We are able to authenticate to the router but we cannot receive a DHCP lease regardless of settings and configuration.
The problem is not the account information. Can't be hardware because wireless works at home and in other locations. What is going on here, and how can it be fixed? Others with the new aluminum macbook at my school have not had this problem.
If I am unable to get online with this computer at work I may need to exchange it for another or abandon it altogether --which as a 20 year mac user I am loathe to do. I need online access for my job. Please, please help me figure this out

Well sounds to me like they might have MAC filtering . No, I do not mean apple macintosh but Media access control addresses. The wifi may lock down by the unique hardware address of each and every piece of netowrking equiptment.
If you are so desperate for work connectivity, why not get the static ip address information adn enter that in to see if you can connect. If you still can not after that then you need to ask the IT staff at your school for access.

I don't know how to determine which server the DBAdapter is targetted to.
But I found the following information:
    Under Deoloyment->DBAdapter->Monitoring->Outbound Connection Pools
Outbound Connection Pool Server State Current Connections Created Connections
    eis/DB/SOADemo AdminServer Running 1 1
    eis/DB/SOADemo soa_server1 Running 1 1
    eis/DB/soademoDatabase AdminServer Running 1 1
    eis/DB/soademoDatabase soa_server1 Running 1 1
The DbAdapter is related to the following files:
    C:\ Oracle\ Middleware\ home_11gR1\ Oracle_SOA1\ soa\ connectors\ DbAdapter. rar
    C:\ Oracle\ Middleware\ home_11gR1\ Oracle_SOA1\ soa\ DBPlan\ Plan. xml
I unzipped DbAdapter.rar, opened weblogic-ra.xml and found that there's only one data source is registered:

Then I decided to use eis/DB/SOADemo for testing.
For JDeveloper project, after I deployed to weblogic server, it works fine.
But for OSB project referencing wsdl, jca and mapping file from JDeveloper project, still got the same error as follows:

You may need to configure the connection settings in the deployment descriptor (i.e. DbAdapter.rar#META-INF/weblogic-ra.xml) and restart the server. This exception is considered not retriable, likely due to a modelling mistake.
    It almost drive me crazy!!:-(
What's the purpose of 'weblogic-ra.xml' under the folder of 'C:\Oracle\Middleware\home_11gR1\Oracle_OSB1\lib\external\adapters\META-INF'?

Please do excuse if there's a silly typo somewhere in those; not knowing how to do it any better, I've simply re-typed the terminal output into this computer, so I can't promise it free of mistakes. (There's got to be a better way to do that, right?
    Asus UX31E-DH72 Zenbook
clean install of the 2011.08.19-core-x86_64 release
There is no ethernet port; only WiFi and a ASIX AX88772B USB-to-ethernet that shipped with the system. (no optical drive either; but that's not really relevant to this)
My current system has never been on the internet (well, since I wiped the Windows off of it...), and so I haven't been able to pacman properly. When I try to use makepkg, it claims it's missing a dependency on Linux-Headers. However, I do know that the wireless card works, seeing as how it had been working just fine under Windows.
If it's relevant: during install, I left the NETWORKING section of rc.conf blank (as the Beginner's Guide says to do for DHCP), like so:
    HOSTNAME="zen"
    interface=wlan0
    address=
    netmask=
    broadcast=
    gateway=
    #NETWORKS=(main)
Disclaimer: I'm rather new to the forums here and entirely new to Arch (which is my first Linux distro after years of OSX and a few weeks of Windows). Not scared of the command-line, but you may have to spell things out. Also, I understand if you'd rather not spend time explaining yourself, but I'm a strong believer in teach-a-man-to-fish, so if you'd like to explain rather than just walk through, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome and congrats on your decision to grace your sleek new laptop with an equally sleek OS :-)
Just in case you have not found that yet: there is actually a wiki page on your notebook for later setup specifics: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Asus_Zenbook_UX31E
BTW: I just read there that the usb ethernet is supported in later/newer kernels out-the-box (if setting up wifi really does fail, you can get a later ISO maybe and use that for starters).
As I understand your current setup state, you have installed the system with the core August release and it boots fine? Please confirm.
Also please confirm the exact wifi card the notebook has:
    lspci -nn | grep net
    or
    lspci -nn >> ryebookpcidevices.txt
The later pipes the output to a file. Doing the command again, appends to the file. We only need the exact PCI ID of the wifi card to double check. To save typing even that ID you can maybe copy the file you created "ryebookpcidevices.txt"  to an usb stick, if that automounts under /media/...
Next, please quote here any errors you get when re-loading the ath9k module (all commands below need root/sudo):
    rmmod ath9k
    modprobe ath9k
If you get errors, check whether
    rfkill list
gives valid output (not sure if that package is on the ISO, i doubt it actually).
If modprobe does without error, please retry your trial to connect with the card by directly issuing
    iwlist wlan0 scan
Give us feedback on what happens then. If there is an error, try
    ip link set down
and start from step 0 in the wireless wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … nual_setup
Your output says "Mode:managed", so something seems working there already..
For "makepkg" you indeed need the headers, but you dont say what you want to compile at this stage.

Hi Nick. thanks for your reply.
I am newbie to the OEDQ. When you say that proces is open in Director, what does it mean? How can i close it?
In order to overcome this situation i did
    1. stop datanomic service on Win2003 server
    2. started Job Main Initialize reference Data in EDQ-CDS - initialize Reference Data project and waited to finish
    3. started Job Real- time START ALL in EDQ-CDS project
    4. this is the step where some of the jobs are errorong out, as stated before
From above to mee it looks like there should not be any process open in Director.
can you please share your thoughts
    thanks

  • Network Printer - Cannot Acquire a Lease through DHCP

TL;DR:  Changed ISP and printer does not/cannot acquire a lease from new modem/router. I haver an Hp LaserJet 4050 with an HP 615n 100BASE-T NIC.  This setup would acquire a lease and work flawlessly through an AT&T 2WIRE router.  No special setup was needed other than enabling DHCP/BOOTP on the printer. I then moved to an area not serviced by AT&T.  My new provider, CableOne, provided me with an Arris Touchstone Gateway.  All of the computers on my LAN will acquire leases without issue, but the printer will not. I've looked at every setting available through my gateway's web interface and can find no setting that will permit the printer to acquire a lease or would otherwise cause/fix this situation. I have reset the printer settings to factory defaults.  The TCP/IP section of the configuration settings on the printer will show the default IP of 192.0.0.192; the status will show "55 - BOOTP/DHCP IN PROGRESS" The printer's NIC is communicating, as Wireshark will show IGMP messages from the printer to a couple of different multicast addresses. Any hints in diagnosing are appreciated.  If further info is needed, please let me know.

Hello sabretooth04, thanks for your reply. I thought I had provided most of that information, but here goes: Detailed problem description - see original post - too detailed to repeat. OS of computer:  I have seven different OSs on this LAN, including OpenBSD, FreeBSD, Arch Linux, Gentoo, slackware, and windows Vista, SP2. Connection is ethernet. Make and model of modem:  Make: Arris; Model: Touchstone Data Gateway. Error messages: none. Printer has been powered off/on multiple times to no avail.  The printer is sending DHCP Discover requests (multiple) but not receiving a DHCP offer from the router/modem. So the question is, what is wrong with the network/router/moden that it will not respond to the DHCP Request?

  • Windows XP connects, but cannot receive network address

Okay. This is a tricky one, as I do not have admin privileges on the Windows computer (I am testing it for my school, so I am rather limited at to what I can do).
Basically, I have my Airport Express set up (from my Macs) to broadcast a G signal protected by WPA2. I connected Windows to the network just fine, but it cannot acquire a network address.
I cannot get into the IP settings for the computer (unless someone knows a way around their blocks), so does anyone have an idea?
    Thanks!

    Hi
Can you access run from the Start Menu? If you can key in cmd or command. At the Prompt issue ipconfig /all. Should display IP address currently in use.
If you know the PC's Name (Right click on My Computer > Properties > Network) then you should be able to ping its name which should return the IP address in use.
Beyond that and unless someone else offers something different you really need to know the admin account's details to go any further.

  • Help! I have a new iPhone 5s. My husband just lost his 4s, so I want to give him mine. Want to use same Apple ID so we both have access to itunes/apps purchases. Want to separate contacts, messages, mail, etc. I cannot change iCloud address.

Help! I have a new iPhone 5s. My husband just lost his 4s, so I want to give him my 4s. We want to use same Apple ID so we both have access to itunes/apps purchases. Want to separate contacts, messages, mail, etc. I cannot change iCloud address on 4s iPhone. Also, when I tried to change iMessage I got a message that if I deleted my id (which seemed to be the only way to get my husband's I'd there), I would not be able to receive iMessages on any device.
Would someone kindly tell me how to set up th 4s for my husband so that we can keep our info separate? It would be most appreciated! Thanks!!

    Hey Fagen!
You will want to see the following article for guidance on achieving the result you wish to achieve:
What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5661
I would just follow the instructions from this article to give your unused 4s to your spouse. Since you have already started using your 5s, you will still be receiving iMessages on that phone and will have no need to receive them on a device that has been replaced. Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,
    Braden

  • I am unable to email an image from camera roll. the image gets "stuck". cannot input email address or subject line. am unable to cancel and go back to camera roll

i am unable to email images from my camera roll. the image gets "stuck". cannot insert email address or subject line. cannot cancel... return to camera roll.
what to do. i tries taking new picture and sending it in an email... same thing... gets "stuck "
    Waht to do ?

    Hello lohmann8,
Thank you for providing so much detail about the issue you are experiencing with emailing photos from the Camera Roll.
The first thing I recommend is quitting and relaunching the applications on your iPhone:
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
You can find the full article here:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
If you are still seeing the same issue after quitting and relaunching the Photos and Camera app, I recommend restarting your phone and then resetting if it's still not working:
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: Reset your device only if you are unable to restart it.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
You can find the full article here:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

If the issue persists, the last thing I recommend is backing up and restoring your iPhone:

  • Laptop cannot find wireless printer HP 2540

Trying to connect my Acer laptops to HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-one printer.   Printer is connected to wireless network.
My laptops cannot find the printer.  I have tried everything suggested, apart from disabling my firewall  which I am reluctant to do as I do not want to have my laptop so vulnerable.
Did not have any problem connecting a Windows 7 laptop to former printer, which was a Lexmark wireless model.
One laptop is using Windows 7, the other Windows 8.1, but both have the same problem.
I am not very technically astute and also I am quite old, so if anyone can help, please keep it simple.

Hi mev2911, and welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you are no longer able to get connected to your HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer on your wireless network. I suggest that you follow the steps in this document for Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection. I suggest that if your computers are not seeing the printer, that you power cycle your network first as this may resolve your issue.
    How to power cycle network
Follow these steps to reset your HP printer, your wireless router, and your computer.
1.Press the Power button on the HP printer to turn it off.
2.Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the HP printer.
3.Disconnect the power cord from the wireless router.
    4.Turn off the computer.
    5.Wait 30 seconds.
6.Reconnect the power cord to the wireless router.
7.Wait 30 seconds, or until the router is fully on and ready.
    8.Turn the computer back on.
9.Wait for the computer to reload.
10.Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the HP printer.
    11.Turn the printer back on.
I hope this information helps, please let me know how it goes.
Thank you and have a great day!

Hello - my OS is Windows 7 Home Premium and my printer is HP Officejet 4630.  Both laptop and printer are connected to my wireless router, but my laptop cannot find my printer.  I have gone through all of the instructions given on both the CD setup that came with the printer and online setup  (several times).   What am I missing?

Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand you are unable to connect the Officejet 4630 wireless during the installation. Please follow this HP document on 'Unable to find printer' Error Message Displays on the Computer During a Wireless Network Installati...
