Laptop Cannot Find Operating System

As soon as I power my laptop on it gives me the message: "Option Rom Will Not Be Loaded" .It then proceeds to take me to a screen where it says: "Boot Device Not FoundPlease install an operating system on your hard disk.Hard disk (3FQ)F2 Systems Diagronstics" I ran all 3 of the diagnostic tests, the memory, short hard drive check, and long hard drive check, they all passed. Some other information: Prior to this problem, my keyboard was acting strangely. Many keys weren't responsive and those that were would output a random(but consistent) letter or sequence of letters on the screen. Also, I recently installed minGW and MSYS on my computer so I could build and run certain applications from a unix environment. Finally, I had similair(though i never got Option Rom Will Not Be Loaded) problems with my computer about a year earlier. That time the problem was my hard drive. I replaced it and ever since it's been smooth sailing. The laptop is about 3-4 years old now. I'd appreciate any information/advice on how I could either a) Fix this problem or b) Back it up as I have a few very valuable files on my HDD that I did not backup prior to this crash.

Hi,          Perform the below steps:- 1. Remove the Hard disk drive and then reconnect this Hard disk drive to another laptop, check if this Hard disk drive gets detected or not. 2. If the Hard disk drive is not getting detected, then you wont be abel to backup the stored data from this. If it detects then you can copy all the data. 3. Then reconnect this Hard disk drive back on your notebook and then when you turn ON the unit, start tapping F2 key and it will launch the diagnostic screen. 4. Run Hard disk drive test and check if the test passes or not. If test fails, then replace the Hard disk drive.

  • Laptop cannot find wireless printer HP 2540

Trying to connect my Acer laptops to HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-one printer.   Printer is connected to wireless network.
My laptops cannot find the printer.  I have tried everything suggested, apart from disabling my firewall  which I am reluctant to do as I do not want to have my laptop so vulnerable.
Did not have any problem connecting a Windows 7 laptop to former printer, which was a Lexmark wireless model.
One laptop is using Windows 7, the other Windows 8.1, but both have the same problem.
I am not very technically astute and also I am quite old, so if anyone can help, please keep it simple.

Hi mev2911, and welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you are no longer able to get connected to your HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer on your wireless network. I suggest that you follow the steps in this document for Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection. I suggest that if your computers are not seeing the printer, that you power cycle your network first as this may resolve your issue.
    How to power cycle network
Follow these steps to reset your HP printer, your wireless router, and your computer.
1.Press the Power button on the HP printer to turn it off.
2.Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the HP printer.
3.Disconnect the power cord from the wireless router.
    4.Turn off the computer.
    5.Wait 30 seconds.
6.Reconnect the power cord to the wireless router.
7.Wait 30 seconds, or until the router is fully on and ready.
    8.Turn the computer back on.
9.Wait for the computer to reload.
10.Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the HP printer.
    11.Turn the printer back on.
I hope this information helps, please let me know how it goes.
Thank you and have a great day!

  • HELP!! Authorization in the same laptop with different operation systems

My BF installed Win 7 operation system on his laptop yesterday and re-authorized it when he used iTunes. However, when he finished authorization, a dialog block showing that "*Including this one, you have authorised two computers out of your available 5*" appeared; what's worse, when he connected his iPhone to the laptop, it deleted all the bought apps in the iPhone, instead of synchronizating.
I also want to install Win 7 operation system, but I'm afraid that the same thing would happen again (to my iTouch).
We're quite confused that why the authorization in the same laptop with different operation systems is counted as two times. Friends who know please tell us whether this is the case.. If not, please tell us how to deal with it as we frequently re-install operation system for quicker operation.

It's the *operating system* that is authorised, not the particular user profile or the hardware. Before upgrading/reinstalling deauthorise and you won't run out...

  • Photos cannot find the system photo library

I’m in trouble.  I was deleting photos in ‘pictures’ as I wanted to clean up some space on my iMac.  My assumption was that ‘pictures' is completely separate to iPhoto (or photos as it is now called).  I then go back into photos (the old iPhoto) and get the message 'photos cannot find the system photo library’.
I cannot access any photos at all.  I’m working on a large project this weekend and I have purchased hundreds of photos over the last 6 months which I require for the project.  Blood pressure boiling at the moment!
    Any help please

You absolute genius.  When I pressed alt and photos it gave me the option to open the ‘old version’ of iPhoto!!
Just so I don’t mess up again.  How do I now get the old iPhotos back into photo?
I did try to look on my time capsule but when I viewed the last back up from this morning, there was no photo in the sidebar to even open?
I’m new to the forum.  I did call Apple but probably not wise for me to articulate on this forum what they said!
The iPhoto migration to Photos would have been automatic when you upgraded - there is presumably a way to kickstart that again though I'm not certain how as I've not done so.
If you have a Time Capsule that's great.
I'll see if I can get some others to chip in.
Also, if you can still open iPhoto you can of course continue to use that for the time being.

  • Windows XP Toshiba laptop cannot find airport express

    Hi,
I'm experiencing the same problems (so i've read) many others have.
My Xp laptop cannot find the base station of airport express, while my macbook has no problems.
I've tried some of the possible solutions mentioned on this forum, but nothing seems to work for me.
    - i can't fill in a correct ip adress in the airport aid program XP (don't know if this is important)
    - and I don't know where i can find the "channel change" option on my xp laptop.
I have tried to change the channel to 1 at my macbook wich resulted in having to reinstall ax cause it also couldn't be found on my mac book after this change
Long story, but i hope someone can help me!
    Kind regards,
    Sonja.

Do you have access to the Airport Admin Utility? It should be Start ->Airport -> Airport Admin Utility.
If you have this, and it should be there is you have loaded the AX software, you will see the AX Base Station in the window. Click on it. You will be asked for a password: the default is "Public" (without the quotation marks). Once you have entered the program, you will see a series of tabs across the top of the page. The Airport Tab will give you access to the information that you need to change (e.g., channel, etc.).
Remember that some Toshiba Laptops have a physical switch that must be turned on in order for wireless to be used. Mine is just underneath the left-hand side at the front of the unit.
If you purchased your AX in Europe, then you can go all the way up to Channel 13 ... Channel 11 appears to be the maximum in North America.

  • Best way to upgrade install SSD in my laptop & transfer factory operating system?

HP Pavilion m6-1035dx. I installed a SanDisk 240GB SSD and fresh install of Windows 7 home premium and it's a real problem. No audio, no experience index, etc. too many bugs so I am desiring now to install the factory operating system on the SSD. I have the restore disk and the recovery disks  I made when the laptop was new, I heard there is a problem associated with that when installing on a SSD and l should instead "ghost" the factory hard drive and install to the SSD....? Any help will be appreciated. By the way, when I was able to view the Experience Index after the SSD install it showed the disk data transfer rate going from 5.9 factory HDD to 7.9 with the SSD. Wow. Too bad about the complications.

    Hi,
You've made a wise choice. I'm, myself, using 3 Sandisk SSD's at home on three laptops. They took me more than 2 hrs to (a) Pull the old HDD's out, (b) Put the SSD's in and (c) Put EVERYTHING back. I cloned the HDD's using O&O Diskimage before open the cases of all 3 laptops. Please note: If you wish to use clone method, you need your SSD big enough for normal C: drive on your existing HDD.
    Hope this helps.

  • VM created on Win 8.1 Pro Laptop cannot find win 7 iso file on USB

VM cannot find USB to load Win 7
I have a Windows laptop with Win 8.1 Pro installed. I turned on Hyper-V and created a VM. Everything worked up to that point. I also downloaded the Win 7 iso and placed it on a USB thumb drive.  I also downloaded the Win 7 installer.
When I "start" the VM, I get a black screen with a message the VM could not load an OS.
It appears to me that the VM does not know where to look for the OS. I cannot find any way to tell it where to look.
I spent over $300 for upgrades to Win 8.1 Pro and a licensed copy of Win 7 so I could run Win 7 on my laptop as I need it to run UPK (which is not compatible with Win 8).
As a last resort I went to the Micrsoft store in Miami and offered to buy a Surface Pro 3 if they would install the VM and Win 7 on that for me. They said it was very easy to do and I would have no problems, etc., etc., etc. In other words they did not have
a clue about what I was talking about.
I hate to see over $3000 worth of hardware collecting dust on my closet shelf because I cannot use them. I am hopeful someone here can help a non-techie make this thing work.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dennis
PS - Went to the Apple store last night and was shown a MacBook Air with Parallels installed. It was running Apple stuff on the Apple OS and MS Office 365 on Win 7. It was all very seamless so am leaning very much to going with Apple as a solution.

You don't say that you attached the iso to the VM.  The easiest way to do
that is to connect to the VM and then on the console, pull down the
"Media" menu, Select "Insert Disk", then browse to the ISO and select it.
Then under the "Action" menu, select "Reset".
You can also mount an iso in the settings for the VM.

  • How to find Operating System partition ID?

I am a novice PS user.  I am trying to find out a way to find the disk partition that contains a windows operating system.
For example, the value 2 would indicate the OS partition resides here.
    Thanks,

Tommy has a good way to parse this and this will most likely meet 99.9999999999999% of everyone's needs.
Just in case you're on a partition that's two digits, this will return only the number:
    ((Get-WmiObject Win32_AutochkSetting).SettingID -split 'Partition')[1]

  • Cannot find mdm.System

I have an IMAC with Snow Leopard. I have two log in ID's set up, on mine and one for my Daycare Children with only games on the Dock. I have installed Dora Lost and Found and it was working fine regardless of which login ID was used. Then I started getting the cant find mdm.System error message when launching the program in the Daycare login but not in my log in. I have both my log in and the Daycare log in set as Admin. I deleted the program and re installed when logged in under Daycare. No change. I could access and launch in my login and everything ran fine. In the Daycare login, I could not even access the folder. Had to go back to my log in and indicate Daycare read and write to share files. Was finally able to open the folder and try to launch but got the same error message. But it still runs fine under my log in. Any ideas?

    HI again...
Dora Lost and Found information here... minimum requirements are for 10.5 (Leopard).
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TW524LL/A
That doesn't mean it's compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6
That's probably why you are seeing the, "cannot findf mdm.system"...

  • Satellite A300 - Cannot install operating system

    I just bought a notebook Satellite A300.
At the begining it had no operating system, but the one at the store installed me Windows 7 ultimate (trial).
Now i have problems installing other system.
It shows me an error and one more thing. When i bought the notebook it had no cd-s, no drivers, nothing, it is ok?
Please respond me, I don't know what to do.

    Hallo Alexandra
I have the same notebook model and at first I want to say that you got good choice. Satellite A300 is supported for WXP, Vista and for newest Win7 too. I have tested performance with all three operating systems and to be honest, best performance is under Win7.
So I recommend you to install Win7. I can help you with exact, step-by-step guideline.
If you want to install WXP you MUST use WXP SP2 or WXP with SP3. Your notebook has SATA HDD inside and when WXP installation starts you must load SATA driver (F6 option when WXP installation starts). This SATA driver can be loaded with floppy disc. Other way you must create WXP installations CD with integrated SATA driver. For this purposes you can use nLite software. It can be a little bit complicated.
Using Win7 you don't need this SATA driver.
Please let me know your opinion about all this.
At the end I must say that you should maybe look forward and learn to use newest operating system and newest compatible software. We all like WXP but it is time to say goodbye. Do you agree with me?
