Laptop + charger

This doesn't really involve arch, but my old charger died,so i got myself a replacement from a mate, the funny thing is that i don't think it's charging my battery, just working as an adapter.
i tried
acpi -abt
Battery 0: Unknown, 3%
Adapter 0: on-line
Thermal 0: ok, 44.5 degrees C
Any ideas?
EDIT: Forgot to mention, My laptops input is 19.5v 4.62A, the charger is 19v 3.95A. I've used a 19.5V 3.XX A charger before,it worked. Btw i'm 100% sure that my battery is not dead.

You are better off buying a new adapter for your laptop make and model. Your warranty will get void if you use any unapproved adapters in case your friend's adapter fries your battery or anything else.

Not that I am aware of.  An Internet search on your part will be required.  If you should find something to that effect, note it will not be endorsed by Apple and the magnetic connector will probably be in violation of Apple patents.

  • Laptop charger appears to be working but no light

I have a HP laptop dv6-1215ee and i am having some charger trouble. My charger plugged in appears to be charging the battery and working fine, but the light right where i plug in the charger is not on. I cross checked it with my friends HP laptop charger and my laptop was working fine as well with light on and everything. It is just with my charger that the light does not come on.
I plugged my charger in his laptop and the light didnt come on.
I started my laptop without battery with my charger plugged in and it blinked twice before going off. the laptop did start working on it though. (with my friend's charger, the light stayed on without battery)
voltage problems ? should i be using the laptop on that charger ? I am out of warranty.

there are loads of people with the same problem you'd think apple would investigate what the problem is an let us all know there really **** with customer service / satisfaction. Have you tried putting it in the fridge for about ten minutes been reading alot about that on threads wouldnt do it meself now

  • HP dv5 laptop charger is overheating (150 deg F)

My dv5 laptop charger gets to 150 deg F while charging the battery.
    (1) If the battery is at all discharged, then the charger will get to 150 deg F
    (2) If the battery is fully charged, then the charger will not get hot.
It appears to me that the small charger (65W) is not able to provide enough power to charge the battery.  I believe a higher powered (95W) charger would result in no issues.  Interestingly, HP has a 95W charger available.
Has anyone tried using a different charger?
HP -- Why was the decision made to use a low power (65W) charger on this laptop?

Hi, thank you for your reply. However, I had already found the page you have linked me to, and used that to diagnose that the code the laptop is flashing is code 1. (The caps/num lock is flashing once, long pause, once, long pause, so code 1 as I understand the document)
This is why I bought a new processor and replaced the old one yesterday, but unfortunately it has not solved my laptops problem. It is still refusing to start and giving me a blank screen with leds flashing the same error code (single flash, long pause, repeat)  which is why I posted on here for help.
I really have no idea what else to try, my bf was also wondering if perhaps a fault with the motherboard could also cause this error code to flash up, perhaps tricking the hp diagnostics tool into thinking the cpu is broken when in fact its the mobo?

  • Laptop Charger 19.5v 90watt on 18.5v 65watt

    I have purchased an IGO Laptop Charger 90 Watt 19.5V 100-240VAC 50-60Hz
My Question is, will it be okay to use this charger to charge a HP Paviliong6-2368ca 65 watt 18.5V? and if I use it will it damage my laptop aswell?

    Hi,
No, I actually use 3 chargers for all my laptops (few of them use SAME chargers): 120W, 90W and 65W. I only use 65W when travelling because íts lighter.

    Hello erasmusfry,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that no charging is taking place. Before anything else, please try the steps I provided in this thread, as they will likely resolve the issue: Re: battery charging
If not, please try Testing and Calibrating the Battery. You should be able to find out if the battery has any issues.
If the battery appears to be fine, you can try to improve your battery performance. For more information on improving battery performance, please review the following document: Improving Battery Performance (Windows 8, 7, Vista).
If none of this helps, you can try purchasing a motherboard if the computer isn't in warranty. If it is, you should be able to get a replacement over HP phone support. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns, and if this helped you. Thanks for choosing the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • MSI GT660 Laptop charge problem

My computer is awesome, its about a year old now. Lately its been having trouble charging, or "running on power". I have to tilt the power cable, or put my phone on the cable to tilt it so it charges, and if i play a game on it, sometimes it will "untilt" juts enough to stop the charging and my computers performance goes down the drain. Its really bothersome because i cant really use my computer for its intended purpose "gaming" now that its charging is so unstable.
Any ideas of how i can solve this problem? Just buy a new power cord? When i google the problem a lot of the suggestions are that the power socket is malfunctioning.. and not the power cord...

Oh boy, i had the same problem until eventually inside the laptop the pin broke of. Not the pin itself but behind it. I had to open it up and connect a small wire from the front to the back. ( i assume it's kind of vague).
What ever you do, don't put pressure on it because eventually it will break.

  • Toshiba laptop charger

Hey so I have a question. I have a Toshiba Satellite A205-S4587 laptop. My charger adapter recently broke so i need a new one. My current charger part number is PA3467U-1ACA. But when i looked it up, my only compatible charger part number is PA3290U-3ACA. I am confused now since the current charger is cheaper than my compatible one. What would happen if i buy the same model as my old one? I am confused to which one i should buy. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Steven

Even better, if you have a PSP(Service Plan) on your laptop that is still current, and you are past the first year of it, take your laptop into GS and they can order you a new one free of charge.
Else, we do carry a few universal ones starting actually at about $90.

  • Need new laptop charger for my Qosmio G50

I've got a Toshiba Qosmio G50 laptop that I bought quite a few years ago and the charger for it finally konked out on me from heavy use and bending of the cord.
I've been trying to search for a charger for it with the same specifications as the one I currently have. I think the product number for it is PA3658E-1AC3B and it's specs are like 120W, 6.3A, 19V, 5.5mm/2.5mm.
I have been unable to find a charger with these specs and when I search for other chargers with similar specs and so on, when lists of compatible laptops come up, my laptop is never in the list. Now I'm wondering if this is due to because the laptop is actually incompatible or due to the fact that it is rather quite old.
Also, does anyone know what laptop chargers I could be able to use or specs for them. Like would a charger with these specs work for my laptop?
    Output: 19V 4.74A 90W
    DC Barrel Tip: 5.5 x 2.5mm
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I dont know where do you live but go to eBay and there you will find proper charger. As far as I know you can use any charger that is offered for Qosmio G50.
If you want to have original part for your model contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country and order one.

  • URGENT QUESTION concerning Pavilion DV6 laptop charger

    Hey I have a question: I have two HP laptops; one is the Pavilion dv6 and has a charger with the series number PPP009L-E, with input 1.6A and 65W;
The other laptop is the Pavilion dv6-3236NR, with the charger having the series number PPP009D, with input 1.7A and 65W.
My question is, can I use the second charger for the first charger's laptop? My first Pavilion dv6 won't charge at all! Could someone PLEASE help me ASAP and tell me if it's the charger's problem, battery problem, or both, and whether I could use the second charger on the laptop!

    Hi Sekhar,
Well the error code would certainly indicate that the drive has started to fail, but just in case, you could try wiping the entire Hard Drive first and then reinstalling the Operating System as described below.
Download and install Killdisk on the link below - ( this application will write zeros to the entire drive ).
    http://software.lsoft.net/KillDiskSuiteFree-Setup.exe
Download and install ImgBurn on the link below.
    http://download.cnet.com/ImgBurn/3000-2646_4-10847481.html
Go to the Kill Disk application you have installed in All Programs, open the main folder, then select Bootable Disk creators and from that select Bootable DOS CD Creator which will burn the bootable ISO to a blank CD.
During the next process do not worry about any warnings as your Windows 7 installation disc will reformat the HDD.
Insert this CD in to your PC that is unable to load Operating System properly. Shut the notebook down, then start it again to boot from the Killdisk CD and follow the on screen instructions for Kill Disk.
A brief description of the process is here Killdisk.
Use this to wipe the whole of the Hard Drive, highlight (80h) and press f10 ( you will also have to type a confirmation and hit enter ) - ( this will make sure you include all partitions and then start the process - this may take a couple of hours! ).
When the process is complete, remove the Killdisk CD and try installing Windows 7 again.
If it still fails, I think your only option is to replace the HDD.
    Regards,
    DP-K

  • Is the Laptop charger covered in the warranty?

Alrihgt, so I had bought my laptop on the 27th of last month, and now the charger is buzzing and it shocks me whenever I plug in the laptop and have it on my lap. I didn't get it wet or anything to lead up to this, and I can't afford to buy a new charger. Is it covered in the warranty?

    Hi,
Yes absolutely..Just call HP Technical Support and they'll ship you a new one.
The factory warranty in HP Notebooks covers all hardware (battery warranty is only 1 year) except accidental damages. For accidental damages you can purchase a seperate warranty known as Accidental Damage Plan.
    Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem

  • Laptop Charging In Desktop Mode

The power meter icon has been showing 51% (Plugged In, Not Charging) for the last few days that I've been running on the charger. I ran the battery test and it says the battery is in good shape (was replaced less than a year ago) and confirms the 51%. I want to get the battery to 100% so I don't have to be plugged in all the time while on travel. My Dell laptop has the option of running in desktop mode where the charging is controlled to extend the battery life when running in desktop mode (on the charger almost all the time). In this mode it seems to run between 85% and 100% charge, cycling only as needed. It also has the option to fully charge the battery. I can't find anything like this on this laptop. How can I get the battery to fully charge? Where do I find the settings to control the charging mode? Computer is a G62-143CL running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

I couldn't find a list of past HP updates in the Support Assistant. It did give access to Windows updates but not the HP drivers updates.  Below is the line from the Update list for my computer. As I recall, there was a ? number 1425 associated with it. This was exactly the same identifiers as what was already in my computer. Lucky I decided to install it even if it was the same. HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors)  F.37 Rev. A   6.6 MB   Oct 11, 2014 I would still like to get software like that on my Dell that lets me set up extended life and desktop charging modes since I still have two HP computers. Please also tell HP that having to install each driver separately rather than all at once is very annoying. I realize that some updates need reboots but surely a semi-talented software engineer could come up with the code to sort that out. They should buy a Dell computer to see how it should be done!

  • Laptop charging problems

    Hello,
I am a fellow IT professional but am becoming a little confused on what this problem that I have with a laptop I am fixing.
It is a older model very similar to  hp 6530b . I do not have the actual model number on hand right now as I am at work.
So here is the deal... I picked up the laptop and he said that his hard drive was originally failing or it just wasnt booting anymore. Which is fine that is the least of my problems. Little did i know once i did fire up the laptop the battery apparently had very little charge left in it. then it would power on. so i eventually asked the guy for a replacement power supply / cord, and a different battery. I had a little charge in the other battery  as well but that fluttered out and I am not getting a charge with the other power cord that I was supplied with.
Another fellow IT friend of mine suggested that it might be the power logic board on the mobo, but after googling around i found that most of those reside on mac machines. do they come standard on the hp laptops?
Because when i plug the power cord in and have it hooked to the laptop all I am seeing is the lightning bolt icon flicker a couple of times when i go to press the power on button. Then it just goes back to doing nothing. I have let it sit on the charger for roughly 8 hours and am still having the same results.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi
So, will the notebook power on at all?  It should power on even without the battery installed as long as the AC adapter is connected.  If it's not doing that, then it is either the power supply, or the power circuit in the notebook, and since you've already replaced the power supply, that implicates the power circuit in the notebook, which would require service call to correct.

Please try to Power ON the Notebook only with AC/Power Adapter without the Battery, If it does not work try to Power
ON the Notebook with a spare/known good AC/Power Adapter and Battery individually one at a time.. meanging Test your Notebook individually with AC/Power Adapter alone and Battery alone

  • Laptop charger indicator blinking in orange color after charger plugged into laptop

    Hi,
I am using HP Pavilion G6-2313AX model laptop with Windows 7 OS,  i've problem in my laptop after charger plugged in my laptop the battery indicator in OS displaying a message like "Plugged in, not charging "  and " Indicator near charger pin blinking in orange color", i tried with another hp charger i am getting same message.   Its a new laptop i bought 3months before. please help to resolve this issue.

With the battery removed can you start the notebook and boot into Windows?
That is a critical item to know. That lets you know that your power adapter is OK. A flashing charge led can indicate a faulty battery or voltage below that required to power the notebook.
Run the battery test from the UEFI diagnostics.
Press the power button and then immediately tap the Esc key. Choose F2 for Diagnostics. Choose component tests and then battery. Run the short or long test.
The battery is a warranty replaceable item. If it fails the test, Contact Hp to arrange for a warranty replacement.
