What kind of problems did you get? I'm 100 % sure they are not "processor" related.
    > really, when i tried to install SAP ECC6 on  i3,i5,i7 with Window 7 then i got lot of installation issue.
They are most likely then due to Windows 7, not to running Windows 7 on one of the mentioned CPUs/processors.
    >
iSeries is a machine group from IBM - it's the former AS/400 :)
    > here we are taking about laptop not for servers. please try to understand.
I know, that's why I used the smily at the end. I just want to get the terms proper. It's like calling a car "BMW" instead of "car".
If someone says he has "installation problems" as a generic statement all I can do is comment on this equally generic. It's just not true that one can't install (technically) ERP 6.0 on an i3, i5 or i7 processor. Technically it's possible if that CPU/machine can run a Windows operating system that is supported by SAP installations. Whether it then works or not or how fast and with how many issues is a different topic but the problems are not CPU related.
All I'm trying to say is: It doesn't matter what CPU/processor type your laptop has as long as it can run a supported operating system for a SAP installation.

  • Laptop Configurations (laptop mode tools)

    Hello,
I am in the process of configuring my laptop and have some simple questions that I would like to verify with people. I am running arch on a Sony Vaio laptop with a Toshiba ATA hard drive.
    1) I have heard quite a bit about being careful with APM to avoid shortening life of hard drive.  I have set the following settings in my laptop-mode.conf file:
    # LM_something=value Value of "something" when laptop mode is active
    # NOLM_something=value Value of "something" when laptop mode is NOT
    # active
    # AC_something=value Value of "something" when the computer is running
    # on AC power
    # BATT_something=value Value of "something when the computer is running
    # on battery power
    # Power management for HD (hdparm -B values)
    BATT_HD_POWERMGMT=128
    LM_AC_HD_POWERMGMT=254
    NOLM_AC_HD_POWERMGMT=254
As I understood the arch wiki, these settings should be good for most laptops.  I don't move the laptop much when it's plugged in (I think the latter two are plugged in) and can have a higher hdparm value.  128 should be good if I am on battery, when I may move the laptop around more (so lower to avoid HD damage).  Could anyone confirm that I understood this correctly so that I don't damage anything.
    2) I am using s2disk to hibernate the computer.  Is there any way using laptop-mode-tools or another method to make it so that the computer automatically hibernates if lid is closed
    3) I am a not certain whether this should be turned on or off (I am leaning towards off since I don't have SATA, but it was by default on)
    # If this is enabled, laptop mode tools will assume that SCSI drives are
    # really SATA drives that only _look_ like SCSI drives, and will use hdparm
    # to control them. Set this to 0 if you have /dev/sd devices and you want
    # laptop mode tools to use the "sdparm" command to control them.
    ASSUME_SCSI_IS_SATA=1
    Thank you very much!

I have not responded sooner because I did not have an opinion, but I tend to agree with flan_suse.
For what they are, laptops are amazing things.  The processing power packed into the things is staggering.  More so is the storage.
When I was in school, hard drives were measured in terms of 10s of megabytes, drives had masses on the order of 20kg, and head crashes were common and disastrous.  That we can walk around with 2kg laptops that have 10,000 times the storage available in rack mount systems 25 years ago is amazing.
But, by nature, laptops encounter some brutal handling.  If the heads are flying when the machine takes a shock, it will likely crash the heads.  Letting them park after a timeout really won't diminish this risk.   Many laptops now have accelerometers to detect a drop and can unload the heads while the machine is falling.  It is a good idea, but I've no idea how well implemented that is.  There is support for this in Linux, but I really have not test it.
That you want to protect your investment is noted.  Never-the-less, laptops operate in a rough environment.  Data is highly valuable. Drives are cheap (I know you are a student, but they really are cheap).  Get an external drive and keep your internal drive backed up.  Set the APM to 254 to save load cycles.  Watch your SMART info and watch for signs of impeding failure.  When the drive starts to show signs of wear out or failure, save yourself headaches and just replace it.

  • Laptop -configuration-advice

    Dear All,
I would like to install the NW2004 SP16 Sneak Preview (Windows OS) on a laptop. I would like use this system as a learning/demo system (develop java/portal/webdynpro applications and deploy them on portal). May be somewhere down the line, I would like to install NW2004s (Java+ABAP stack) on the laptop.
What would be the minimum workable configuration for this scenario and if some one has configured Nw2004 or NW2004s on a laptop, can u Pl share your views?
    Thanks and Regards

Wooops, sorry, I think I forgot to put up a watch for this topic...
Well, your laptop is probably more powerful than a server, and if all you want is an SAP on it. It is definitely more than enough with the system. Linux is highly recommended since Windows crashes all the time. If you have not had any experience before with Linux, Ubuntu seem to be a good place to start. It is very easy to use and the good thing is that they ship the CDs for free (with no shipping cost as well): www.ubuntu.org is their website, I think.
Moreover, the SAP for Linux is always free (including free instllation DVD), provided you are willing to renew your liscence every 90 days. Take a look at this website:
    http://www50.sap.com/linux/eval/
    Hope this will help!

  • Laptop configuration for OBI EE.

    Hi,
I've an Intel core i5 laptop with 4gb ram (2.85 gb usable) and windows 7 professional 32 bit os. It's got hard disk failure so I need to get it repaired.
With regards to OBI EE I am happy with the current config. The only major issue that I am facing is OBI EE takes 15 to 20 minutes to start up. So if I want to try out something quickly I either postpone it till I get more interesting topics or due to time constraint I ignore it. And I hate it.
If I upgrade the os to 64 bit and add more ram, along with fixing the laptop's hd issue, will I get overall improved OBI EE 64 bit software performance esp., OBI EE service start up time? Currently I have OBI EE 11.1.1.7.0 32 bit. (Pls note I'm not referring to query performance.)
Any suggestions? I hope the rpd and we catalogs will be fine without any issues once I have 64 bit software installed?
    Regards,
    Manoj.

    Manoj,
However, QuickStart dashboard (SampleApp Lite) is relatively faster and SQL Developer tool remains instantly usable
As you mentioned above SQL Developer,So I mean to say uninstall and insall sql developer
The size of the RPD and webcatalog may affect start up times of the services. It is recommended to clean up the RPD and webcatalog to remove redundant objects.

I am going to be in the market soon to buy a new laptop to run the CS3 Production suite. Can anyone tell me what would be the recommended system specs? What processor is better for this Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD's processor?
    Thanks

Just go to newegg.com and buy the adapter that matches your notebooks interface, a separate internal drive and an
eSATA external enclosure and the cable and save a lot of money.

Shyam. As pointed out, Oracle has not certified anything for Windows 7, and will not certify anything for any "home" edition.
I'd recommend you get a copy of VMPlayer (free, from VMware) and create a couple of virtual machines running Oracle Enterprise Linux (free, from Oracle), then install your Oracle db on the virtual machines.

You will be able to install both but system will be very slow.
check both installation guides at http://service.sap.com/INSTGUIDES or on installation CD. you have prerequisites explained in those guides.
when you install those systems, decrease the number of dialog work processes to a small value such as 6.

  • Problem with Xmonad, laptop & presentation

    Hi,
I am trying to figure out how I can have Xmonad show a presentation both on the laptop screen as well as on the projector.
At this moment I can only either show the presentation on the projector or the laptop, but not both at the same time except
when I tell xrandr to clone the laptop screen. However cloning the laptop screen is (atm) not an option because the laptop
screen has a wide screen resolution which the projector does not support. This causes the presentation to only show partially.
I also tried to place a copy of a window onto 3 workspaces at the same time in the hope that through xrandr that it would
show the workspace on the right or left. However this also didn't work.
Does anyone have any idea how to make Xmonad show the focussed window on 2 screens at the same time?
If someone happens to have a good laptop configuration that I could try that would be great ;-)
    Cheers,
    Neburski
ps: I have a configuration that works pretty well except the presentation thingy is a problem.

I just struggled with this problem myself today. I found out that Nvidia's twinview can clone display output, but widescreen laptop + 4:3 beamer means that part of the presentation falls beyond the screen. I now change the resolution of my laptop screen to that of the beamer. Not ideal, but it works.

    What are the procedures.

    Hello
Yes, you can practice SAP ABAP in your Laptop and your laptop configuration is well suitable. But windows 7 home doesnt support it. You can download windows server 2008 or 2003 or xp and use it in Oracle virtual Box and install it.
Simply follow the steps in this guide by Faisal. I have installed with this help

Please download only java runtime 1.4.2 version to make installation easier

  • Uploads failing regardless of configuration, support won't help, tech didn't show up...

I'm having issues with my own network running on Business Fios out of Pittsburgh PA. I've done all the troubleshooting I can, and it seems that even when I have a laptop connected with my static IP DIRECTLY to their ONT, uploads lock up, and reset. I've tried FTP uploads to our hosted web server, and the FTP logs show that the connection was dropped and started over again, constantly. This happens with any upload, while connected locally. Verizon can't "find anything wrong" at their end.
I spoke with support yesterday, and after being told it must be something at my end (even though I’ve bypassed all of my network by connecting the laptop to the ONT, and also tried TWO of their actiontec routers to their ONT – same situation).  I was told “This is what I do for a living” and that’s that – after asking for a supervisor he agreed to send a tech to look at the ONT today between 1 and 5.  No one ever showed up, I’m not surprised.
Has anyone seen behavior like this?  All I can figure is a cooked ONT or a routing issue on their end, but how in the world do I convince them?  I’m about 2 seconds away from jumping ship for Comcast with static IP’s since my business relies on this being a stable connection, and right now it isn’t.  I’m doing a disservice to my own clients at the moment because I’m having so much trouble uploading files.
Fios is by far the best technology and it’s been running great here for 3 years – but last week something changed, and it was nothing internal.
    Any suggestions?
    -Matt Weaver

Download a copy of Wireshark and do a packet capture of an FTP upload (note, this will capture the userid/password of the account you're accessing so you might want to change it first and change it back when you are done -- as well as disclose your IP source address/hosting server).   Then let's have a look see at what might be going on.  PM me if you don't want to post it for everyone to see.  Can't gaurentee a fix, but maybe we can at least figure out where things are breaking down.
Have you by chance taken this same laptop to another location (preferably a FiOS location, but a Starbucks or other open wifi spot would be OK as well) to see if it results in similar behavior?   Given no other changes on the laptop, if a change of location doesn't change the behavior, then we're dealing with a laptop configuration (yes, I know it's on several laptops) vs a network problem.   At a minimum it will help pinpoint the problem.
