Take note of the warning at the end about allowing an iPod to sync with an empty library.

  • I crashed my hard drive and want to copy my iPad apps and music to my new computer instead of overwriting the iPad. How?

I crashed my hard drive on my laptop and had it replaced.  I lost most of the data.
When I sync my ipad or iphone, it wants to overwrite those devices.  I want to copy back the apps, music and photos to iTunes on the laptop.
    Can this be done?
    Thanks.

If this external drive is a boot drive (has the OSX on it), you can swap it into your MBP or use Disk Utility>Restore to clone the data to the internal MBP HDD.

  • Re-installing Linksys Connect on laptop after new hard drive installed

I have a E4200 router and had Connect loaded on my laptop. My hard drive crashed and needed replacement. I had no problem signing on to my WiFi once I got the new hard drive installed.
With the new hard drive, I now do not have Linksys Connect installed on my laptop. My question is: Can I re-install Connect with the router running perfectly well or will re-installing Connect with the router already up and running cause me problems?
    Thanks for any help.

  • My laptop and external hard drive both failed and got corrupter.

My laptop and external hard drive both failed and got corrupter. I've lost my quick time pro 7 and all my music, I still have my Ipod with the music on, How can I get it back on to Itunes and quick time pro back on to my PC? Many thanks.

Since your current editing workflow is based around Virtual Copies there are no actual files containing the edit data. Therefore, you'll need to use the 'Import from another catalog' option ( see File menu).

  • Transferring playlist to new laptop from external hard drive and old laptop

I've seen similar topics before but none exactly describing my situation. I currently have itunes installed on my work laptop, but have the majority of my music on my external 120GB hard drive. When I add songs to itunes, I add them from the music folder on my external hard drive, thus the external hard drive must be plugged in to be able to play my music. However, if I import a cd it gets saved to my C drive on my work laptop under the itunes music folder and gets played from here.
I recently purchased a new personal laptop and would like to export my entire music library and all playlists from my current work laptop and external hard drive so that I would be able to have all my music in itunes on my new laptop without having to manually adding songs and changing the song info again. I worried that if I copy my itunes music folder to my new laptop it will look for the E drive (external hard drive) to play them rather than my new laptop hard drive. What's the easiest way to accomplish this task?? Please advise.
    Thanks..

    Hi dalbatross,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Did you set up your new computer by creating a Time Machine backup and restoring from it?
If so, the Events and Projects that were on your internal Macintosh HD would copied to your new computer.
Here is another way to copy the events & projects to the new computer from the external drive:
iMovie Help: Work with multiple libraries
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov3fa25bae7
Copy or move projects, events, or clips between libraries or hard disks
Connect a hard disk that contains the target library to your computer, or copy the target library to your computer.
Choose File > Open Library, and choose an option from the submenu. You can choose from recently opened libraries at the top of the submenu, locate an existing library on your computer, or create a new library.
The selected library is opened in the Libraries list, with the first event selected and its contents displayed in the browser.
In the Libraries list, select the event that contains the item you want to move or copy.
In the browser, select the item you want to move or copy.Note:  To select multiple items, hold down the Command key as you click the items you want to select, or drag a selection rectangle around the items.
    Do one of the following:
To move items between events or libraries: Drag the clip or project to another event or library.
To copy items between events or libraries: Option-drag the clip or project to another event or library by first starting to drag and then holding down the Option key as you drag.
    Cheers,

  • OS X Yosemite crashed my hard drive, free replacement?

So after OS X Yosemite came out, I was thrilled to be up to date, then my Macbook froze on startup and wouldn't boot up for absolutely no reason,
it's a 2012 Macbook Pro, by the way. I sign on to Facebook later that day after spending hours at the Mac Store saving my files onto my external and still losing many memories I already had there, and I notice an old high school friend posted "Do not download Yosemite, it crashed my hard drive". Needless to say she too had a 2012 Macbook Pro she bought specifically for college as well. Just wondering if anyone is  going to own up to this, or if everyone is just going to have to use up that free warranty at the expense of an apple os bug.

Yosemite will not crash your hard drive. But a bad installation could cause that to happen as could many other things. There is no warranty connected because the drive would not require replacing. Hard drives do fail. Don't believe everything you hear or read about crashing drives, bad operating systems, etc. because they usually come from someone who doesn't know what's going on. And, you can't "use up" a warranty. They are always good until they expire.

  • My Mavericks upgrade crashed my hard drive and I had to reinstall Mountain Lion.  Now I cannot get any of the apps that I purchased to download.  The icons on the launchpad just say "waiting" no matter what I try.

Are you now using a different username from the one you used prior to migrating? If so that is the reason for the problem. You might, then, give this a try:
    To fix Home folder permissions
Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder.  At the command line prompt enter or paste the following command line:
    sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
Press RETURN.  You will be prompted to enter your admin password which will not be echoed.

  • Lost hard drive space

Hi, I just bought mac mini which is working great but I have lost a lot of hard drive space. My mini says it has 74.5 GB hard drive according to the system profiler, but after doing the transferring of information as per the Mac mini user guide using a firewire cable between my old emac and my mini now I only have 12.3 GB left on my hard drive.
I know I had about 22 GB of info on my emac, so does that mean the the mini comes with over 40 GB’s of stuff on it from the factory? I think maybe I messed up some place. I know I now have two administrators on the mini. One is the new one I set up, the other is the old one that was transferred from the emac.
I must have duplicated something, but if anybody has any ideas on how to gain back some lost hard drive space I love to hear form you.
    Thanks, Brad
Ps. I tried to post last night but today when I went to find it nothing came up. I hope I'm not double posting.

Thanks Ian, I did what you suggested and down loaded "whatsize" then ran the program. What it found was that in the Library>Logs>Console>502file there was a strange log in file that and 25GB's of ishock controller logons.
I guess what happened is that when I transferred the info from my emac the ishock controller app. and driver was also transferred but the mac mini didn't like that. Every time I started up the computer it would cause the ishock to logon which took up a bunch of hard drive space. So I just deleted the file restarted and like magic I gained back 25 GB's
    Thanks for your help!

  • I had ITunes on a Dell laptop.  I copied it all to a Compaq laptop via external hard drive.  The Dell is deauthorized. The Compaq is authorized.  My IPod Classic will not Sync on the Compaq.  I have transferred purchases, but "Sync" is greyed out.

The Compaq is authorized.  My IPod Classic will not Sync on the Compaq.  I have transferred purchases, but "Sync" is greyed out. How can I get the IPod to sync with the Compaq?

If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
The iPod should appear in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Select it there.  To the right, its Summary screen is shown.  Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs ot the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music.  This is the switch to enable automatic syncing.  If your iTunes music library fits on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Select playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Then select what you want on the iPod from the lists below.
Click Apply to intiate automatic syncing between that iTunes library and your iPod (based on how the iPod's Music screen is set up in iTunes).

  • I lost my iTunes library on a crashed external hard drive.  How can I import music from my iPod that was not originally purchased on iTunes?

The 500 gig hard drive on my 2008 iMac was so full it was running very slowly, so I transferred the iTunes library to an old external Maxtor 1T drive.  A few months later the Maxtor crashed, and the library went with it.  My 3rd G. iPod Touch still has the whole library on it, but I don't know if ALL the music will transfer back to the mac when the iPod syncs.  A portion of the music was from CDs we borrowed from our kids.  How can I get all of the music that is presently on my iPod to transfer back to a new iTunes v. 11.1.2 library on the mac?

One application that's able to accomplish what you want is called Senuti.
    http://senuti.en.softonic.com/mac.
I've used it many times to recover music from my iPod to iTunes.

  • How do I restore lost iTunes from a crashed external hard drive?

My external hard drive that I used to store my downloaded cds has crashed and I was using iTunes to play my songs.  Is it possible to recover my them?  No backup was ever done.

    This is a tricky one.
Open up Time Machine and go back to a date using the timeline on the right side of the window when you know the drive was working and was backing up as part of Time Machine backups.
Click on the name of your Mac under the Devices heading on the left side of the window in Time Machine, and if things are working correctly you will see Macintosh HD (or whatever you have named it) and the name of the external hard drive that was backing up in the past.
Right-Click on the name of the external hard drive and then click on "Restore (name of drive) to....."  You may be asked for your adminstrator password at this point.
It might be easier to restore the drive contents to your desktop if you have room on your Mac, and then copy things over to the new external drive where you want to store the Aperture and iMovie Libraries.
Once the libraries have been moved over the new external hard drive, you will likely need to "point" Aperture and iMovie to the location of the libraries on the new external hard drive.
