Laptop dead after replacing motherboard twice

Does anyone know where I can get my Pavilion DV9925nr repaired without spending an arm and a leg.  I have already paid two out-of-town vendors to replace my motherboard.  The first time the repair lasted about a week.  The second time it came back totally dead.  When I plug in the AC adapter the colored ring around the plug lights up and the battery light on the front of the machine lights up - nothing else happens.  No sounds of disks spinning, no other lights, and nothing to signify that it should be working.
I would probably be better off to throw the machine in the dumpster but I am just hard headed enough to try my best to make it work.  Any suggestions?  Obviously, it is out of warranty.  I am curious if HP would repair it or replace it for a reasonable price.
Thanks for listening......
Paul

Thank you. I'm typing this from my just-recovered laptop. I don't know what I would've done if I wasn't able to fix it. You are a true hero heroine.
A few pointers for others with the same problem:
* Make sure you have at least .Net Framework 3.5 installed. Phoenix tools wouldn't generate the files until I installed it.
* Not every BIOS version on the HP site can be installed with this method. I had to click on "previous versions" and only the three oldest ones were able to generate the required files with Phoenix tools.

  • Elements 11 won't open after replacing motherboard

I have a hard copy of Elements 11, which is activated on my laptop and my husband's laptop.  I recently had to replace the motherboard in mine.  Now when I try to open Elements, I get a message that the activation code has already been used twice and I have to purchase a new code or deactivate one of the 2 computers.  We both use the program so I can't delete it from my husband's, and I shouldn't have to anyway.  I can't exactly deactivate the code from my laptop pre-mobo switch, so how can I get it to work on my laptop again?

  • Touchpad not working after replacing motherboard

Hello there, I had a bad motherboard a while back in my Pavilion g6t-2200 (Intel),  After speaking with HP support, they told me they would replace it for $350, to which I declined, and opted to replace it myself. I bought a motherboard for a HP Pavilion g7-2240us motherboard, replaced it and everything works fine, all except for the touch pad.  I have since checked and rechecked the connection to single ribbon cable to the motherboard.  The LED next to the touchpad does not light up at all, and installing/reinstalling drivers does not do anything - keeps saying it cannot interact with the touchpad.  It is NOT an issue where the touchpad is locked! Asking for your advice, please assist!

Hello , Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I read your post about the TouchPad, and wanted to assist you! Since you installed the motherboard for a HP Pavilion g7-2240us Notebook PC, have you tried installing the TouchPad Drivers for that model, instead of your current one?  You can find the drivers for the model here, if needed:HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads (HP Pavilion g7-2240us Notebook PC) You can also try reviewing the following document, as it may help to resolve the issue as well:HP Notebook PCs - Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8) Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.

  • Laptop dead after BIOS update. How do I restore original BIOS?

    Model: HP Pavillion m7-1015dx
    Original OS: Windows 7
Current OS: Windows 8 64 bit
    Problem:
I tried to update the BIOS using this file:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-124651-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
    Released:2013-10-08
    File name: sp63801.exe [1/1, 6.56M]
    Version F.29
It gave me a Blue Screen of Death and the computer restarted. After restarting I only get a black screen, the fan turns on but there's no text and no way to access the BIOS nor the boot menu.
The Caps Lock led starts blinking twice, then stops  for 1~ second, then blinks twice again and again, indefinitely. This, according to HP, suggests a BIOS Corruption Failure.
    What I've tried:
I don't have the HP recovery partition, so I've tried installing both HP UEFI BIOS Update SoftPAQ and HP UEFI Support Environment SoftPAQ to a FAT32 USB drive named HP_TOOLS. I have tried these tools separately, not at the same time. I've tried them with 3 different bios downloaded from this site. I hold the windows key and B, then turn on the computer. Nothing happens. I have tried Fn and B, holding them for different lengths of time, there's no beeps, no text on the screen, nothing. The led on the USB drive flashes over ten times at the beginning and then stops, then caps lock starts blinking again. I have tried putting the .bin file in different folders in the USB, including the root, same result. There's no.sig file in the bios I have downloaded.
I am on mobile, excuse the errors. What am I missing?

  • DJ 880c electricly dead after replacing cartridges

Sorry, two things going wrong here.
My 880c Deskjet printer started to leak ink when not in use, the well below the parked cartriges overflowed and ink came out of the bottom of the printer, these were remanufactured cartridges.
I have now replaced them correctly for other remanufactured cartridges but the printer just blinked its orange error light and refused to work, I double checked for correct installation of the ink and for paper jams, still no joy, then it just went dead, came back on for a second and died again.
I have changed the fuse for one I know works, checked all connections unpluged it and waited a few mins and tried again, yes I have tried all the tips in the user guide but nothing works.
My cartriges are `parked` and so I cannot now remove them.
    Any help deeply appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • After replacement of motherboard.laptop name n product number changed n become casablanca h710

now i am unable to detect my product specification and i have a doubt that after changing motherboard my laptop specifications has been changed

    SMHUSAIN,
Did you purchase your notebook before or after October 1, 2011? If you purchased it prior to this date, HP will not be producing Windows 8 drivers for the notebook, but the hardware manufacturer may. If the product was purchased after that date you'll just need to watch the product's software and driver page for the drivers to be released.
Here is more information about the upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8.

  • T400 Dead After Installing 7,200 RPM Hard Drive - Twice! (2764-CTO)

Does T400 have issues/restrictions with non-oem hard drives?  My T400 came with a Seagate 5,400 RPM 160GB, after I swapped it with a Hitachi 7,200 RPM 100GB drive, it doesn't boot any more -- only the power indicator is on, and the hard dirve spins, and that's it, no display, no POST, no error beeps, no nothing.  I called the service and had my motherboard replaced; at first I used the 5,400 RPM 160GB drive, everything's fine; until I put the 7,200 RPM 100GB drive in -- it died again!  The 7,200 RPM drive is totally working as an external hard drive, and also working fine as a system drive in T60p.  I called the tech support and they suggested me to send the unit in so they can really figure out the problems, I declined because I have had bad experiences sending my machines out to service facility.  At this point I'm seriously thinking to get my T400 replaced; but if this is a common issue that I wouldn't be able to use any 7,200 RPM hard drives other than the ones from Lenovo, then there's no point getting this one at all.  Anyway, anyone got any ideas would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

You're having a different issue - your T400 boots as long as you swap the original HD back.  In my case my T400 doesn't even POST after I put the original HD back in.  I got the technician replaced the motherboard twice, and it finally worked out the second time.  However we found another problem: surprisingly, my T400 was actually shipped without the BIOS backup battery (THANKS LENOVO), I had to call the service center again to request it; I got it the 2nd day, and my T400 is working so far so good, with the 100GB 7,200 rpm HD.
So far I haven't heard the non-oem HD compatibility issue on T400.  In your case, it looks like your Seagate HD was just not recognized.  Try changing the SATA AHCI setting in BIOS to compatible and see if it works that way.

  • Y500 motherboard dead after only 18 months

My $1000 laptop is dead after just 18 months. The motherboard is unrepairable and my hard drive has stopped working. It has been having issues starting for at least six months but now it is dead for good. I'm pissed because Lenovo won't work wih me to repair it. They want almost $600 for a new motherboard and hard drive. That's without them actually touching the laptop. For that price I can just buy a new laptop. You can be sure it won't be a Lenovo. Apparently, they are ok with people paying a premium for their products that last less than half te lifespan of their competitors. I am so angry right now.

The Battery in my laptop has been replaced twice and this is the third time the battery has swollen up.
Since the first time it was swollen I have asked the reason but Apple has not come up with a reason and just replaced it.
Second time also the service centre replaced the battery but were unable to give me a reason.
I had asked them to replace the laptop as this has been happening repeatedly and seems to be something with the laptop
otherwise why should every battery they put swell ?
This is the third time this has happened. And now they refuse to replace the battery or the laptop also.
    What is the solution?

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and press the problem. Elevate to store manager if necessary. Maybe the charging circuits are defective resulting in overcharging which is causing the battery problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar

  • Received a replacment 6th gen for a defective older version.  Battery on new version is dead after only four moths.  Was told I would have to purchase repair ($60) because 30 days had expired.  I think it may be time to say goodbye to Ipod.

This is pretty sad.  The battery is dead after four months (and this was a repacement product from a previously defective model).  I think it is ridiculous that beacuse I am over the 90 day period by a month that I should have to pay a service fee.  I understand the fee,but on a four-moth old product that is replacing an older version with the same problem?

That is a fit of bad luck right. You can still try to schedule an appointment at your local Apple Store's Genius Bar and explain to them what has happened.  They may be willing to swap it out for you again at no cost, but of course, they are under no obligation to do so.  The appointment is free except for your time.

  • PB 1400 dead after PRAM replacement

    Hey all,
My PB 1400 is unresponsive. After replacing an old PRAM battery, it won't power up, won't boot, won't anything. The little green power indicator on the display comes on, and stays on. It will only go off when I press and hold the reset button; and when I let go, the light comes back on. Other than that - nothing happens.
It doesn't matter how often, or how long, I press the power button or the reset button, the powerbook does nothing. No startup chime, no nothing...little green light, and that's all.
The powerbook worked fine before the PRAM replacement. It's not likely that the PRAM battery itself is the problem, since I replaced it a second time, with the same result.
    Someone please help?

Did you get the GLOD worked out?
I wrote the website pbreadme.com, and I found something on there that may help you. Although it is on the pb 2400c page, it might work for the 1400.
Here is a snippet from the page:
To solve the GLOD or problem:
    1. GREEN LIGHT (constantly lit)
    a) Disconnect the AC adapter
    b) Pull Lion battery out
    c) Reconnect AC
    d) Reset Power Manager button by depressing it for at least 40 seconds
-battery out with AC connected results in resetting Power Manager.
    2. NO LIGHT (hitting Power key results in faint click)
    a) Disconnect AC adapter
    b) Pull Lion battery out
    c) Reset Power Manager button by depressing it for at least 40 seconds. This should work: if this doesn't work, reconnect AC adapter and repeat PM reset, always with battery out.

  • Same pc, replacement motherboard installed, won't accept activation

    Hi all,
I have adobe installed on my main desktop and a laptop. The desktop recently went for repair and came back with a replacement motherboard (exactly same make/model etc) but now adobe won't accept the activation. I had assumed that after roughly 2 weeks the 'old' activation would stop, like when a hard drive dies. This doesn't appear to be the case however. So I'm left with the same pc but Adobe thinking I have 3 different installations. What to do? Many thanks

Activations cannot just "stop", because the server handling them doesn't know anything about your dead system. Call support by phone and they'll sort it out.

  • Satellite L670 - Hard Disk Dead after 8 months only

    Hi,
this morning I had to retunr my laptop due to bad hard disk problem. After 8 months, it's dead already.
The positive points are: I am still under warranty and second the toshiba software hilighted me on time, allowing me to back up my data before the crash. Tks Toshiba for this tool, very usefull.
The question is, how can a hard disk die that quick after just fews months ?
Bad luck or bad use ? I am wondering.
I wish to have a feedback from those who owns same model, L670 (windows 7), to understand if this problem is commun or if I was unluckily concerned.
Also, if there are possible solutions to avoid HD stress in the daily use ? Like for example, reduce writing on it (back up of blu-ray using AnyDvD HD ON hd, then cut&paste to external HD), or to not connect too often external hard disk to avoid electricity surcharge if any ?
In future, will I have to perform chkdsk more often ? Defrag ? If yes, at which frequency ?
This is my 3rd laptop dying, Sony VAIO = mothercard dead after 1.2 years, Fujitsu Amilo xi = explosed after 3 years, and now Toshiba HD after 8 months.
From 900EUR up to 1600EUR, I do not see a significative resistance of one of those models, Sony was the badest ever in terms of video card longevity and compatibility (games unplayable after 2 months, no driver update), keyboard "painting" was a mess with deterioration after fews months compared to Fujitsu and Toshiba (no pb). Toshiba L670 more recent, was the best in terms of game compatibility.
What to do ? Stop buying laptop or use it only fews hours a day with a PC on top ?
For time beeing I can't afford to have a PC + a laptop as I am unemployed, surviving with 10EUR/day,
time to find a job again.
Despite this situation, I managed to buy new Zelman notebook cooler for my Toshiba at around 40/50EUR, but, it didn't help apparently.
Tks for feedback about L670 duration life, and particulary HD problem + best use to protect it.
    Guillaume

    You're not the only one.
I bought an L670 in September last year. It was strictly for home use as replacement for a desktop PC, so it was never moved.
Just after a few weeks things started to go wrong: boot fails, programs crashing, Windows 7 crashing...
It's almost 7 months now since purchase and I'm writing this message on the very same notebook with 'Hard Disk Sentinel' running in the background, reporting more bad sectors every day. It tells me that hard disk health is now down to only 9% and that it has an estimated 14 days to live.
Since the notebook is technically still running fine, I don't think I can have the HDD replaced under warranty or am I wrong? Does the HDD have to cease working alltogether before I can have it replaced under warranty?
