Laptop Dead....reviving library info?

So my laptop recently has met an unfortunate demise, and am forced to use my girlfriends for the time being....
Fortunately, the HDD is fine, and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to recover the iTunes specific info from my library files....
It's definitely a tad OCD of me, but I'd like to have the playcount, and particularly rating info from my library. My iPod is fine, and all the files are intact, so I presume there must be some way to move the ratings from my iPod or old iTunes files to my computer.
Transferring the files from my iPod isn't an issue, I've used apps for this purpose in the past, just more curious about the ratings, playcount, and playlists in particular.
I saw some info on playlists, but haven't yet found anything particularly helpful in regards to the rating info yet.

You need to get the itunes library.itl file to preserve date added, play counts, ratings, etc.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
And you have to be able to remember what folder the music was kept in - just dropping an ITL file on a new PC that has different paths will result in a lot of ! exclamation points next to songs if iTunes can't find them.

There is no Info tab in Mavericks
if you use OS X v.10.8.5 or earlier. If you use OS X Mavericks v.10.9 or later, your contacts, calendars, and other info are updated on your computers and iOS devices via iCloud. For more information, see iCloud Help at icloud.com.

  • Is there a way to overwrite the ORIGINAL songs with my iTunes library info?

    Hi there,
I would like to know if there is a way to overwrite the original songs with my iTunes library info? What I mean is, I have MANY songs that I have transferred to iTunes (and were obviously not purchased from iTunes) and I always put the info (such as the album name, the album art, artist, composer, etc.) and it leaves the original song (like the songs that are in "My music" section that is in "My Documents") with the same info. For example : The song that I put into the library will be "chamiionaire feastureing flip"... and in the iTunes, I put it as "Chamillionaire ft. Lil Flip". How do I make it so that it replaces the "original" info (located in my documents) with the info I put in?

Same question. Used to have an iPod. Lost it (best digital player ever), now I use other portable device. The mp3 files have their id3tag edited in the original file, but the .m4a don't!.
Want to know someway to write the info from the library to the original .m4a files.

  • Library info directory path contains a file where a folder was expected

Cannot reopen my Aperture library (Aperture 2) after successfully exporting a few images to desktop as jpegs and then closing Aperture. Tried to reopen Aperture and got the following message:
Library info directory path contains a file where a folder was expected.
The Aperture Library could not be created at “/Volumes/Data/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary/Aperture.aplib”. Check the path and try again.
No idea what has happened here. Anyone know how to fix?
I have a referenced library on my data drive (4 drive Mac Pro) Data drive/d300 Masters folder/another sub folder/then all my images. Did nothing other than to adjust, crop and export images. Images all still there (can open in PS).

    Sounds strange.
Did you try to double click your "Aperture Library.aplibrary"?
Maybe trying to open backuped library...
Or creating a new library by pressing the alt key when clicking on the Aperture Dock icon.

  • Library info problem upgrading to 7.1.0

I recently upgraded to 7.1.0 from the previous newest version (using Apple's automatic updater). It now seems as though all of my song file information (track name, artist, album, etc) has been reverted to the information it had when I first added them to iTunes, which has made my entire database a complete mess. I would really like to get back my old library info. Unfortunately I have already synced my iPod with my library, as I had not yet noticed that there was a problem, so I do not have a recent copy of a library file handy.
If anyone knows how to fix this and get my file info back, any help would be muchly appreciated.
    Thanks!

After chatting with Adobe Tech Support they directed me to uninstall again and install PP 7.0 via a download from their server.
    That solved the problem.

  • I have a 4th or 5th generation iPod nano (I don't know which) but I want to transfer all of my music into my new laptop's iTunes library but I can't lose any of it because I don't have a back up. How do I do this?

I have an iPod nano and a new laptop. I just got my first Apple id and I really want to transfer all of my iPod music into my library. I don't have any back up and can't lose some of this music because it was a gift from an ex-boyfriend and I don't want to lose the great music. Please help me! Thank you!!

You can deauthorise all 5 at once, then reauthorize the one you want.
Learn how to authorize or deauthorize your computer with your Apple ID.
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420
You need to log into iTunes on the computer you want to deauthorise. Otherwise, contact contact iTunes Store support to see if they can help.

  • How do I back up my itunes library within itunes? I just purchased a new HP laptop and my library did not fully load from my back up files on an external hard drive (HP Simple Save).  I was told yesterday by a tech to back up library within itunes

How do I backup my itunes account on my old laptop within itunes so I can access on my new laptop.  Both are HP's

While the above sorts you out for a one time transfer this is what I would recommend...
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.

  • Recreating my iTunes on my laptop after moving library to mac

I had my iTunes library on my macair and decided to move it back to the iMac.  I followed the instructions for moving the library back to my mac via an external drive.  This seems to have worked OK.
I had wanted to still have iTunes on my laptop, and the software is still there.  I deleted the iTunes folder as I had wanted to make space on the drive.  I realise now that there was probably some files I shouldn't have deleted.  It now gives me an option to create a new library, but then it wont let me and suggests to put it in a new folder, when I do that it still doesn't like it.
I wanted to just use home sharing from my mac to the laptop.
What can I do.  Should I restore the folder and then just delete the iTunes media folder?  Or is there some other way that would be better?

Move it all back to the C: drive to exactly where it was before, and follow these directions to fix it.

  • Installing i-tunes on a new laptop and my library has disappeared ... help!

... in installing i-tunes on my new laptop and taking all the the latest upgrades has resulted in my i-pod being wiped clean. I still have the music on an external drive (although I think I can kiss goodbye to the playlists).
I have copied the music files in their i-pod set up folders in to the right directory on the c:drive but the i-tunes software doesn't pick it up and still says the library is empty. I have also been to edit / preferences / advanced and tried changing the folder to recognise the external drive (which is how I had it set up on the old laptop as I ran out of hard disk capacity) but this hasn't worked either.
Can anyone out there help me find a way of getting I-tunes to recognise these files so I can see them in the library .. and then I assume I can re-synch the i-pod and get them back without having to reload 5000 songs. Even better is there anyway of recovering my original configuration and then I won't have to redo the playlists either
Look forward to hearing from you
    many thanks

Well, unfortunately, the external hard drive only stores the music files. The playlists will have been on the old machine, easily recoverable, or on the iPod, possibly recoverable.
As it is, you may just have to rebuild your library, foregoing your playlists, ratings, etc.
To do this, go to edit\prefs\advanced, and make sure the following settings are selected:
DO NOT copy to iTunes folder when adding to library
DO NOT keep iTunes folder organized
Now, go to the external, and drag the entire music folder into iTunes.
Then, go back to edit\prefs\advanced, and change the folder back to the external.
    <hr>
In the future, consider occasionally saving the two library files (.xml, .itl) from My Music\iTunes to the external.

  • My old laptop crashed and i want to re-establish my iPhone with new laptop including saving all info on phone

My old laptop crashed and I want to re-establish my iPhone with a new laptop. I had no chance for backing up just before the crash, so I need some other way of transfering ALL files, contacts, calendars, photos, etc simply. Can I transfer any data out of my old laptop HDD ? The iTunes on the new laptop doesn't like the idea of me using it for the old phone either !!

If the hard drive in your old laptop still works you could put it in an external enclosure in order to copy your entire iTunes folder to your new laptop.  If that isn't possible, the first thing you would need to do is copy any music you didn't purchase from iTunes from your phone to your iTunes library on you new laptop using 3rd party software such as Touch Copy.  This can't be accomplished with iTunes (iTunes will only transfer purchased music from your phone).  You would also need to do the same thing with any Photo Library pictures on your phone that were synced from your old computer.  These can't be transfered with iTunes either.  Once you've done this, carefully follow the steps in wjosten's post here in order to sync your phone to your new laptop without losing data: https://discussions.apple.com/message/13356770#13356770.  (For Windows, substitue Outlook for Address Book/iCal in step 2.)

  • TS2972 Am trying to share Libraries from other computers to Apple TV.  Am able to share from the laptop but the library from the Imac.  Any suggestions?

I am able to share the Library from the Mac laptop but not the Imac.  Any suggestions?

You can share multiple libraries with the Apple TV, they don't even need to use the same iTunes account. Just make sure that you use the same ID for homesharing on all devices.

  • Transferring Library Info - odd problem

I recently had to get a new machine due to HD failure. While my music collection survived, I'm not sure about all of my painstakingly rated songs (it takes a while to rate 7,000 tracks!). All of the rating info (not to mention all of my playlists) must survive on my iPod, correct? How can I port that information to my new copy of iTunes (v. 7.0.1.8)?
If it matters, it's a 3G 40GB iPod, and my old version of iTunes was 6.mumble.mumble.mumble.
The thought of having to re-rate my entire library is almost enough to put me off of music.
Any help at all would be much appreciated. I'm not even sure what to search for.

You can use the free trailware version of podutil to copy the songs along with playlist, playcounts and ratings back to iTUnes
