Laptop display got dimmed, and never able to boot up

I have HP DV4 Pavilion 1436TX.
While running, the display got dimmed until I could barely see anything, turned black. I shut it down through power button. Now I am not able to boot it up anymore. There is no LED light anywhere, even at the power plug. I took it to service center; they said they could fix, but charged very costly, and they won't reveal where the laptop goes wrong except that it's mother board problem. I cancelled the repair, but a guy briefly checked my laptop by turning it on. It booted up for while with blue screen something like "CMOS Reset... Invalid", then it went dimmed again, and won't boot up again.
Could this be the CMOS battery problem or other components? How can I identify the problem?

I understand that your notebook does not boot up.   You took it in to be serviced  but the repair was too costly and you declined to have them repair it.
When you try to boot it up you do see the error"CMOS... reset Invalid".
You could try googling the error for additional information.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.
If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.
But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you may need to consider more drastic measures (e.g., WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK/JLCMDR wipe/reload, etc.).
Be sure you have a good backup...the link in my auto-sig on this post will give you proper instructions for that.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Display repeatedly dimming and un-dimming

I have the 2011 15" macbook pro radeon 1gb.  While playing a game or doing heavy video editing the screen begins dimming and un-dimming repeatedly in 3 second intervals.  The screen will dim for 3 seconds then get bright for 3 seconds and get dim again in a constant loop.  Is this a symptom of overheating?  How do I fix this?

Nothing is wrong — your MBP is operating as it's designed to do.
When your activity on the machine demands more than the 85W of power that the AC adapter can provide, the battery is drawn upon for the difference. Because the AC adapter is providing most of the necessary power, the battery doesn't drain nearly as fast as it would without the adapter connected, but it does drain.
You can reduce your chances of running into this by disconnecting all peripherals that draw their power from the computer, dimming the screen backlight as much as possible (reducing the ambient light level in your workspace will make this more tolerable), turning off keyboard backlighting, turning off Bluetooth and Airport if they're not in use, quitting all nonessential CPU- and GPU-intensive processes, and using the integrated GPU instead of the discrete one on a MBP that has both, if the integrated GPU is up to the task at hand. These steps will minimize the consumption of power for tasks other than the primary one.
You may well wonder why Apple didn't provide a higher-output AC adapter. Only Apple could answer that, and Apple hasn't. My guess is that pumping enough AC power into the machine to enable it to run flat out and charge its battery at the same time would generate too much heat for its cooling system to dissipate effectively.
Afterthought: in your MBP, the ambient light sensor is not behind the speaker grilles. It's 5mm to the left of the iSight camera lens in the top of the display bezel. This has nothing to do with your problem, but its location was misstated in one of the previous responses.

  • How do i retrieve file vault protected files from an external hard disk that used to be my mbp's hard drive? the hard disk got corrupted and will no longer boot. I put it in an enclosure and attempted to copy my files but failed because of FV encryption.

This external hard disk used to serve as the main drive of my mbp. It got corrupted and the OSX would no longer load. I upgraded to a 500gb hd and used the old hd as an external drive. I tried to copy my files but i could not access them because of the filevault encryption. 110gb of hd space appears as used which means that my files are still in the drive. Is there a way to retrieve these files? thanks

According to your post, you're using Leopard, so FileVault only encrypts your user folder (unlike Lion). On the mounted external drive, in your user folder, you should see a file called username.sparsebundle, with username being your user name. Double-click that file to open it and it should prompt you for a password. Type in your password and the file will mount as a volume in Finder. You should be able to copy all of your files over.

  • MacBook Display is Scrambled and System Will Not Boot Up

I have a 2007 15" MacBook Pro. The display is scrambled and the system will no longer boot up for me. I've connected an external display and it shows the same thing, so it's not an LCD issue. Most of the time I can't even get the computer to boot up anymore. It just goes to a solid white or solid blue screen. The only time I can actually log in to my computer is if I boot up in safety mode, but the screen is still scrambled and the computer does not work properly. Most of the time it crashes, going to a black screen at some point. Here is a link to an image of the display: https://fbcdn-photos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfp1/t1.0-0/10463936_1015252696 9309534_2355610140415446061_n.jpg

That sounds like a failed logic board or display module on the logic board...either way you need to take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs test it to see exactly what has failed.  The testing is free so give the techs a chance at diagnosing the problem.

  • HT1329 Is there a possible way for me to sync all my iPod Touch (4G) 's content to a Windows 8 Laptop with iTunes? and be able to continue syncing weekly?

So I've had this Windows laptop since 2009 and its very broken and slow but it has all my iPod's content on it (iTunes).
Recently I bought a Windows 8 Laptop, and I'd really like to sync all the content from my iPod Touch 4 (mostly the songs) to my new laptop without having to delete anything important.
(I also have a couple older iPods, but none of them have the same content as the one on the iPod Touch incase that helps)
    Thanks.

    From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..
    Full Details Here  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
An Added Bonus is that you will have a Backup of iTunes.
If you do not have access to the iTunes Library on your Old computer... or its Backup...

I am not able to open my ipad when forgot password and made several attempts to open it .The message " iPAD is disabled..Connect to itunes" appers. It is not opening even after i changed the password.Need support.

Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    2. Connect USB cable to computer, leave the other end alone
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

  • Laptop display won't sleep

I just upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.8, and I’m almost completely satisfied except for one last thing: I play a MMORPG that runs in full-screen mode, and when I was running 10.3.9, the display eventually became dim and shut down after several minutes in accordance with my preferences in Energy Saver. This is not happening in 10.4.8. What do I do? I jiggered my screensaver and display-sleep times, but this hasn’t worked. Thanks very much. Peace.
PS, how do I get file sizes to display when I do a search in the upper right-hand corner of a finder window like I used to?

I meant to say, there are times that one leaves the game running while one leaves the computer for hours at a time, and the display eventually dimmed and went to sleep while the game was running in full-screen mode. Anyway, the laptop display isn't sleeping since I upgraded to 10.4.8 from 10.3.9, so how should I set my preferences? Peace.

  • Macbook pro dims and then brightens within a second

I have my macbook pro 2.4 ghz 15" set to automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep. When it does this, the display sometimes dims and the keyboard shuts off like its supposed to but other times the display dims and then within a second it brightens and the keyboard stays dark. I'm not sure why this is. I mean it doesn't do it more than it does but its still frustrating. Is it due to the 10.6.5 OS?

Could it be related to the ambient light sensor? Turn it off and see. The check box for this can be found in Displays Preferences.

  • Copying server system to external drive, be able to boot off if necessary..

    Hello,
I have PowerPC G4 tower that is running Mac OS 9.2.2 as a server, and it works OK the way it is. What I am trying to do is copy the system to an external drive that I removed from a defunct imac, the drive is only 7GB, but should be enough for a bootable external drive. How do I copy the server system onto this drive so if I want in the future to boot from it I can. I am going to be upgrading the machine to OS X, with (2) mirrored 500 GB RAID drives that all users (6) can access. I am trying to eliminate the server as a server and just be able to access mirrored drives as shared volumes across the network. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Thanks in advance...

Thank you for the info. I was able to copy the 9.2.2 OS to an external drive and was able to boot from that drive so... that seems to be working as intended. Although I didn't see the "blessed" icon, it seems to be running the way I want it to.
Now, trying to upgrade to OS X seems to be giving me a problem... Is there a version of OS X that needs to be installed first? When I try to load 10.4.3 and reboot the mac to the install CD I get an odd screen in multiple languages, stating that "You need to restart your computer" and in the background there are multiple lines of code saying various errors "unable to find driver for this platform: "PowerMac3,3" "No debug configured-dumping debug information" "Kernal Version: Darwin Kernal Version 8.8.5" among other text. Last line says: "Panic: we are hanging here...
Please forgive my ignorance with these issues , but I appreciate any help possible.

While you're in itunes, with the leftside window open, click on Apps. Then, look across the top middle of your itunes screen. You will see several choices: All, Iphone/iPad Touch, Ipad, Ipod Games, List, and Updates.
Clicking on each of these gives you a different view.
When you select ALL you will see all of your apps. When you select Updates you sill see only the apps that need to be updated. When you are in Updates you will see the Update button in the lower right corner.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT1695 My new iPad with Retina Display is not able to connect to the Wi-Fi of my new Time Capsule. It used to connect, but now it just spins and spins and never connects. I've tried rebooting everything many times.

My new iPad with Retina Display is not able to connect to the Wi-Fi of my new Time Capsule. It use to connect, but now it just spins and spins and never connects. I've tried rebooting everything many times.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • HT1349 my laptop got corrupted and recovered but i am not able to connect my iphone to my laptop

my laptop got corrupted and recovered but i am not able to connect my iphone to my laptop. Pls help me to recovery my iphone.

I had the same problem with my wife's iPhone 4, go to settings, network an see if 3G is activated in your phone, also check if data is activated, if this don't work, than the problem is not in the phone but with the carrier.
Your phone may show the 3G or the Edge network icon next to the signal bar, but 3G and Edge may not be really activated for your phone in your carrier network, even if you have a data plan, sometimes their activation department kind of forget to activate the full service in their network, it already happen to us several times.
Call your carrier and confirm if they really activated the 3G or Edge data in your phone in their network according to your data plan . They may need your phone's EMEI and ICCID numbers, you will find it at settings, info
    Hope that helps
