Laptop doesn't detect driver for Pixma iP100 printer.

Have Pixma iP 100 installed on Toshiba A665 laptop. Was working fine. Then upgraded to Windows-8 after which computer failed to recognize printer. Have down loaded Wx 8 driver from Canon website to no avail. Have uninstalled and re-installed still to no avail. System can't find driver. Any help? Thanks, DC.

Hi dcjensen,
I would like to see just how much of the printer is or is not being detected by Windows by seeing how it shows up in Device Manager, or even if it shows up at all.  Use the following steps to get into Device Manager:
1.  Put your mouse in the top right corner to open the Charms Menu, then click Settings.
2.  Click Control Panel.
3.  Click System and Security.
4.  Click System.
5.  Click Device Manager on the left.
In the Device Manager, are there any entries that have a question mark or exclamation point?  Also, is there an entry under Other Devices that eitehr lists the name of the printer or just says Unknown Device?  Lastly, under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, do you have one or more entry that says USB Printing Support?

  • Canon pixus / canon pixma ip100 printer

    hi
I'm trying to get a Canon Pixma iP100 printer connected by usb working with my arch linux.
    cups 2.0.1-1
    linux 3.18.4-1
for this I created and installed the following packages from the AUR repo
    cnijfilter-common
    cnijfilter-ip100
and installed the printer over the cups web interface.
the printer is detected as usb://Canon/ip100%20series?serial=123456 as soon as I connect it by usb.
when I first tried to print a test page, there was an error about the missing file /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanonij so I copied it from the pkg folder to this location.
when I now try to print the test page, the status is changing to "Sending data to printer" and the print job disappears after a short time. But the printer isn't doing a thing.
I also tried to print over the console
    lp -d Canon_iP100_series -oraw out.txt
but the only thing that happens is that the printer's status led is blinking once.
I was also able to grab the data (pdf) which is sent by cups to the printer: https://filepaste.puzzle.ch/downloads/3 … d00047-001
    thanks for any help

Kodak has posted an unsupported hack that has been reported to enable printing to a Kodak printer not supported in OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite").

OK, connecting a Wi-Fi printer is a 2 step process.
    Connect printer to your network
Have computer to "see" printer on the network.
Follow Apple's steps for connecting a Wi-Fi printer in Printing in OS X. Read the article in it's entirety before installing.

  • Win 8.1 driver for my MX870 printer

Just got a new Dell with Windows 8.1. When I plugged in my MX870, Windows installed a driver. The driver for printing seems similar to the Canon original driver I got 2-3 years ago and installed on my old Dell running Vista.
But, I don't see a Canon driver for scanning with the MX870. I do see the lame Windows Fax and Scanner applet, but that really is lame.
I see that the Canon web page has a Windows 8 driver for the printer. So, always cautious about installing anything- I presume I should uninstall the driver that Windows 8.1 installed, then install the driver on the Canon web site?
If so, should I install the driver with the printer NOT connected to the computer?
    thanks,
    Joe
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi JoeZ,
You don't have to uninstall the drivers that were already installed by Windows; you can just download and install the latest drivers for the printer from the Canon USA website.  Please click here to go to the Drivers and Software page for the PIXMA MX870.  Once on the initial download page for your model, please do the following:
    1. Verify that the operating system detected in the "OPERATING SYSTEM" drop-down menu is correct, and if it is not, please click the drop-down menu to select your operating system.
    2. Next, please click on the red arrow next to the "RECOMMENDED FOR YOU" section and click the MP drivers file. When you do, a red DOWNLOAD button will appear. Please click on the checkbox below the DOWNLOAD button, then click the red DOWNLOAD button to begin the download. The time for the download process may vary depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the size of the file being downloaded.
Once you have downloaded the MP drivers file, please follow the steps above to also download the rest of the software for the printer, except in Step 2 you will want to click on the red arrow next to the word SOFTWARE to display and download the software.
    Hope this helps!

  • [SOLVED] CUPS doesn't detect USB Samsung ML-2010 printer

Hi. I only speak a little English. Sorry for that.
I have got an USB Samsung ML-2010 printer. Before I used cups-usblp from AUR, and it worked. But it doesn't work now. The cups-usblp maintainer suggests to use cups instead of cups-usblp. Searching with google, it appears that other people don't have problems with this printer, cups, and archlinux. But I do. Cups' web interface doesn't detect it.
Well, this is how are the things now:
    $ lsusb | grep Samsung

I miss archlinux, but I need to print.
What may be wrong? What may be I am missing?
Thanks a lot for your comments and help.

    Solved!
    Restarting cupsd didn't work.
    But reinstalling cups...
$ sudo pacman -Rdc cups (it is a dependency of kdeadmin-system-config-printer-kde which I had installed)
    $ sudo rm -r /etc/cups/*
I realize cupsd is already running:
$ ps aux | grep cupsd
    root      1549  0.0  0.1  75548  4080 ?        Ss   21:04   0:00 cupsd -C /etc/cups/cupsd.conf
    felipe    1690  0.0  0.0   8416  1028 pts/1    S+   21:13   0:00 grep cups
    I kill it
    $ sudo -SIGKILL 1549
$ ps aux | grep cupsd
    felipe    1694  0.0  0.0   8416  1024 pts/1    S+   21:13   0:00 grep cups
    Ok. Reinstall cups
    $ sudo pacman -S cups
    Start cups daemon:
    $ sudo rc.d start cupsd
Open firefox. Go to web interface, bla, bla, bla.... And it's there!
I feel really silly. It was a fresh install, so I didn't think about reinstalling.
Printed some jobs and worked perfectly. I used the gutenprint driver.
Thanks a lot, pyther.  I thought yours wasn't a very useful suggestion, but it really was. I'm so happy. I owe you.

  • Printer driver for Dell Photo Printer 954

I am about to give my Macbok Pro to a person with a Dell Photo Printer 954. I have been trying to find a driver for the printer to install on the laptop but it appears that Dell doesn't  make drivers for Macs. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the Printer and laptop to work together?
    Thanks.

Not surprisingly, Dell doesn't provide an OS X driver for it.  Assuming since you've asked it doesn't work, so you may need another printer. I've used Canon printers for years, and my curret MP560 AIO works nicely via wireless connection.

  • How to install Windows 7 64 bit driver for Canon i9100 Printer?

When I try to install my Canon i9100 printer on my HP laptop running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, Windows cannot locate a driver.  Visiting the Canon website, I find an update module for the Windows driver.  Canon says the printer MUST be installed using Windows Updater before their driver update can be installed.  I have tried everything, but I cannot get Windows to find a driver.  Windows Updater says that my computer is Up To Date.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you,

    Hi Honeycutt,
The Windows 7 driver for your i9100 is only available from Microsoft through Windows Update.  Please try Microsoft's web page for assistance with troubleshooting this:

  • Install printer driver for a  shared printer MP520

    Hi,
I need to install the Canon MP520 (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=116&mo delid=15483) printer to my MBP. The printer is connected to another a mac running OSX and is shared. I installed the OSX driver provided on the Canon page and I can see the shared printer in the network printers but when I am asked to choose the driver I can't see the correct model listed.
On the other hand, if I simply connect the same printer via USB, to my MBP it is recognized directly.
When I'm asked to provide the driver while adding the printer via the network, there is also the option to browse to the driver location. So my question is, where are the can I find the right driver on the OS ?
    Thanks in advance ,
    Tex

Reading your first post it sounds like the method you used to connect to the shared printer may have been incorrect.
When a Mac is sharing a printer, to add this printer on another Mac, you select the Default browser view. You should see the printer name followed by Shared in this view. When you select it, there should be no requirement to browse for a printer model. The queue should just be created with minimal driver options.
If you want to have all the features of the MP520 available to your Mac, then you need to install the same driver on your Mac as what is being used by the Mac sharing the printer. Check this carefully as Canon offers two drivers for Mac OS X and you can also use the free Gutenprint driver set for the MP520. If you open System Preferences > Print & Fax on the sharing Mac, select the printer in the list and look at the Kind section of the right hand pane, the driver version will be displayed. With a bit of luck the driver that was used to install on this Mac might still be available so that you can install it on your Mac.
Note also that you don't have to add the printer queue to your Mac to print to a shared Mac printer. From the majority of applications, when you select to print, you should find a Shared Printer option in the print dialog > Printer menu. This can be beneficial if you don't have a requirement to add this printer to your list, such as when you are visiting someone with Mac's. This doesn't sound like your situation but wanted to make you and others you read this aware of this fact.

  • Reinstalling driver for Dell 1110 printer

The 10.5.7 update lost the driver for my Dell 1110 monochrome laser printer. I've been very happy with this printer for the past 18 months and am still on my starter toner cartridge, despite the printer telling me a year ago that I needed a new one.
FYI, this printer is actually a Samsung ML-2010 and you can get a driver here: http://driverscollection.com/?H=ML-2010&By=Samsung&SS=Mac%20OS%20X
If this link breaks, just email me and I'll send you a copy.
Dell should be ashamed for not providing this driver.

    Hi tediousregistration,
It looks like the driver version you were using is quite old and that could potentially be the problem. Using a driver that's coming up on 4 years old is bound to "break" at some point. It's just frustrating when it happens.
I did some digging on the Internet and I found some links to various versions of the driver, perhaps trying a new version might resolve the issue.
Unfortunately with peripheral driver versions, it's up to the manufacturer to ensure compliance with the OS. It's possible, as 10.5.7 is still very new that a newer version might become available which supports functionality in this revision of OS X 10.5
I also am including a link for Gutenprint. Although it doesn't list that model of Samsung as one of the support drivers, I find that open source community is often the best place to go for older (or not as a common) models.
