Laptop Failure ID

Hi,
My laptop gave me the blue screen with rays and would let me move the mouse but nothing else happened.  It worked Monday afternoon, a few hours later it wouldn't go past the blue screen.
I have a failure id: 9w2p9-0006q3-pxg02k-60xu03. Product id: wq778uar#aba  If anyone can help with this, it would be fantastic.
Thanks!

Hi,
You're welcome
The 305 error code is a failure of the comprehensive ( Full ) Disk Self Test ( DST ) and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status Here.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know.
Regards,
DP-K

    Hi,
Product Specifications : Compaq Presario CQ62-423NR Notebook PC
The 24 character failure ID suggests hard drive is failing or has just failed.
You can use a SATA to USB adapter and connect this HDD to another PC , copy all the data to an external HDD from there.
You need to replace it with a new one.
If you're under warranty, HP would send you new one.
Else, you may buy a new branded retail HDD of similar form factor 2.5inch SATA 9.5mm thick internal notebook HDD of 320gb or more upto 750gb.
    These look good:
HGST HDD, WD Black, WD Black 320gb
Manual - Page 4-8, 4-9 for replacement procedure of HDD
You must have created Recovery USB after you setup the laptop initially. This media will help you in restoring factory OS after replacement of HDD.
IMPORTANT: If you've not done yet so, you have to ask HP if they have a set of recovery media in their stock for your model : Order Recovery USB from HP.
I'm also not able to find any 3rd party vendor selling it.
If HP don't have recovery discs for your model with them, you're out-of-luck unless you can get a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installation disc from one of your friends and do a Clean installation using that.
IMP: I CANNOT GUARANTEE IF THIS METHOD WILL WORK, AS MICROSOFT HAS WITHDRAWN Windows 7 OEM ISO DOWNLOAD SUPPORT FROM THEIR WEB SERVERS 1 MONTH BACK. READ THIS.
Note: You should be able to clearly & legibly read all the 25 character product activation key in the COA label on the back of your laptop.

  • Laptop failure, unsure what cause may be

After my cousin has, for the second time, let the laptop overheat by laying it directly on the couche cushins.
The first time he didnt say anything for several hours as he was afraid to get caught. That time simply removing the battery and charger, pluging in only the charger, powering on (turned on), it started working.
This time its a half hour later and weve been removing the battery, holding power for thirty seconds, unpluging for a bit, ect, and nothings happening when we plug the power in, battery or charger.
From what i can tell usualy its supposed to at least have ANY light come on as a error status, were getting no such thing. I know its not the charger as a voltameter showed its working fully. Anny suggestions?

Good job checking the power adapter. Have you tried booting with the battery unplugged but with AC power connected?

  • Sat C655D laptop failure

Not exactly sure what happened but system no longer works.  Removed HDD and appears it failed so I recovered what I could with recovery software and purchased a new HDD.  I was able to recover the recovery partition and have set up the new HDD with two partitions as the original and restored the D: partition with the recovery data.  When I attempt to restore to factory (pressing 0) at boot, it does not work.  Does it require a special name on the drive? Or something else particular?  It just says no boot disk.
    Ay help appreciated.

  • Backing up Itunes library to external

Can I back up my entire ITunes library to an extternal hard drive? I don't want to move the library off my laptop - I just want to have a back up on my external hard drive in case of a catastrophic laptop failure.
I see options to back up to DVDs or CDs - bt that seems inefficient compared to an external hard drive for storing a back up.

+Can I back up my entire ITunes library to an extternal hard drive?+
Yes, but you don't need iTunes to do it. make sure the external HD is attached, which usually requires a USB connection. In Windows, copy your entire iTunes folder to the External HD. Make sure to get the whole iTunes folder, as it contains the library file as well as the songs themselves.
While you are at it, copy over all your photos, documents, and other valuable items.
You can also set up automatic backups in Windows.

  • I am dissapointed

I have had my all in one pavillion desktop for about 2 years now. Now it randomly shuts off. Doesn't turn on. And shuts off some more when I do get it on. I paid 700$ for this computer. And I can see there's a lot of people that have the same problem. And its funny how my comp craps out after the warranty. No I don't feel like getting it repaired I shouldent have too! This is the last hp product I'm buying. Btw I'm on my phone because you make computers that don't turn on.

flogger12345 wrote: Life span of laptops varies on a lot of reasons. I would say reload your OS. If it is still the same, then thats a hardware issue.
Hello flogger12345, You are correct about Laptop failures. It has been my experience, which is limited with Laptops, that they only last about 3-4 years normally.
I do have a Laptop that is still working just fine and it is over ten years old. You might imagine how slow it is....
The system in question is a HP Pavilion All-in-One MS225 Desktop, and not a Laptop, but your suggestion would apply to these types of systems as well.

  • Ideapad Y510P overheating when playing games...help

Idk anything about your model of laptop, but i have the z580 that gets really warm too. 78 - 82*C when playing games like Starcraft 2. I have a desktop computer fan that runs of USB. + a 18$ cooling pad. But they both only keep the laptop 1 - 3 *c diffrence.  So.. Idk what to do there ither. unless I just take off the bottom of the **bleep** thing and set it on a window box fan...  loool or spend 100$ on a better cooling pad.. Idk. but even the more expesnsive ones have reviews saying only 1-5*c in diffrence.  And i cant find anyone that knows how to reccommend a good cooling pad. Everyone I tlak to just says it means its a **bleep**y laptop and to upgrade. But thats not useful...

My Y500 got a little hot, so I bought a Logisys Computer Dual 140mm Fan Aluminum Laptop Cooling Pad Model NP8. Best $20 I've spent... It comes on when I turn the computer on, and it stays cool, which in turn will make the laptop last longer.Heat is bad for the electronics, and the number one cause, besides the hard drive, for laptop failures. I agree with the reviews, in that the aluminum corners are very sharp, but it's easily remedied with some fine sandpaper. It's quiet, and totally effective! Thermaltake's fancy lighted big single fan is a joke; the fan died a few days after the 90 day warranty. I recommend the dual, or tripple fan setups, in fact I was deciding between the Logisys, and another aluminum cooling fan setup, where you could place the fans where they would do the most good, right by the vent openings on the bottom of the laptop.

  • Laptop keeps on rebooting after windows update configuration failure due to low disk space.

    Dear all,
My laptop keeps on restarting it self due to it cannot configure the windows update. I had tried all the solutions online including boot into safe mode, however none of this works as it keeps on going back to the windows configuration screen. I had no windows
installation disc, i tried system repair and system restore, both also not working.
I know where my problems is, it is that I had turn on the quota management system in my c drive. Thus, it had limited my disk space. I suspect that the configuration failure is due to not enough disk space.
I am here to ask, anywhere i can start my windows without the update configuration step, or how did i turn off my quota management system without getting into the windows. I tried safe mode, it  still goes to the windows configuration screen and reboots
    again.
    Please help, thanks.

    Hi,
You can access Advanced Boot Options by turning on your computer and pressing the F8 key before Windows starts.
Then choose system restore to go back to a previous status if you have a restore point.

  • Hard disk failure HP G7000 laptop

    Hi,
I'm getting hard disk failure on a HP G7000 laptop. The machine boots fine from DVD drive using a Linux boot disk.
    Vista installed on machine.
No recovery disk was created when machine was first bought and any disks provided with the machine when bought can't be found.
The Vista licence tag is on the base of the machine so I have a licence key for Vista.
    1. What type of hard drive do I buy as replacement? SATA 2.5 inch?
    2. Can I use any Microsoft Vista install disk and type in the licence key on the base of the machine?
    Thanks
    Clive

    Hi,
The failure ID will either be a Smart or Disk Self Test failure - both would indicate that your Hard Drive is failing and will need to be replaced.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced. Or incase your unit OOW you can purchase a New Hard drive.

  • Hard Drive Failure on HP DV 6000 Pavilion laptop Windows-XPsp3 OS - Need Data Recovery Help

Hard Drive Failure on HP DV 6000 Pavilion laptop - Need Data Recovery Help
HP Pavilion DV 6108 NR, RG365UA, purchased in late 2006 at Best Buy, with Windows XP, upgraded to Service Pack 3. It has a Fujitsu hard disk, 60 gigabyte, partitioned into C: and a Recovery D:.
Windows tries to boot up, but goes to blue screen with the message: "Unmountable Boot Volume" for one second, then just keeps recycling until I force a shutdown.
BIOS Phoenix, hard drive test result: " #1-08 Fail "
I ran a disk analysis/recovery program on the Cdrive and it seemed to show the directory structure intact, and it was able to recover some files. I was using the free one from Seagate (which only recovers small files). The second pass didn't run so well, and during the third run the program said I should not proceed further, and I should contact a professional disk recovery company.
However, the D drive seems to be intact, so, I wonder if the disk is corrupted or just some aspect of the logical C drive is bad.
How can I get the D: to run the recovery software on it? The recovery disks, made by Best Buy, only proceed to the R / F / Q option screen, and when I press R, I get a blue screen every time.
Tapping the F10 key during startup gets me nowhere. Ditto the F11 key.
I dont care about the hard disk; it is the data (files, docs, images, etc)  that I want.
I contacted HP to order recovery disks but they are no longer available for my computer.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi @goshenguy
Thank you for your inquiry, I am happy to help.
I grasp you tested the hard drive from the bios and it failed.  This tests the physical aspcects of the hard drive and when it fails it does require replacement.  You were able to retrieve some of your files using recovery software but not all.
Your recovery partition is still intact and when you try to do a recovery with the disks from Best Buy you do not get past these options R / F / Q  but will not proceed.
Here is a link to Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows XP, 2006 or Later) that may assist you in performing a recovery.
Here is a link to the Maintenance and Service Guide HP Pavilion dv6000 Notebook PC. Please note chapter 3 page 42 for a replacement hard drive part number.
    HP Parts, HP Replacement Parts
If you are still unable to do the recovery, you could try contacting Best Buy for assistance with the recovery kit they provide.
I don't know if it is possible, but you may want to check cloning software to see if you could clone the D partion to the new drive or connect both drives and  try a drive to drive copy of the D partition.
If you were able to successfully put the D partition on a new hard drive you should be able to do a recovery from the  D partition  to take it back to factory.
If none of the above has allowed you to successfully do a recovery, I suggest contacting Best Buy to see it they have  options other then purchasing  a  third party recovery kit.
    Good Luck!

  • Hard drive failure on Pavilion dv6-6000 laptop (LT069AV)

I posted this as a reply on another thread (xxx).   Thought I might get a quicker response starting a new question.
Persistent BSODs and disk errors culminated in a "disk not found" error yesterday on my dv6-6000 laptop PC.  Windows 7 Home, Intel i5 processor, 6GB RAM.  I like the PC overall - nice screen and usually great performance.  I look forward to getting it back online as it serves as my work as well as personal computer.
So, I need to replace my hard drive and reinstall the OS with a an HP recovery disc that I have yet to purchase (I can't find a recovery disk I produced myself after several moves), and then restore using my cloud backup solution.
The HP part number for the SATA hard drive is 621046-001 (this is a 640 GB volume).  I noticed that a replacement for this drive is available at CPU medics for about $90.  Would I be foolish to order a replacement, having just experienced a drive failure with this part?  Should I look to other manufacturers and perhaps go with a 750 GB volume?  Also, do I need to replace with a 7200 rpm drive?  Is there any disadvantage if I went with a 5400 rpm HDD?
    Any suggestions?
    majoha

You have options when installing Windows 7 to create partitions, you could just select the complete space & install as one partion then once installed use windows disc partition manager to adjust it to you requirements.
Windows 7 can be loaded to a memory stick & the link provided includes a tool to make the bootable memory stick.
Plenty of step by step guides on installing windows can be found on google, it is quite easy but first time is always going be slower due to learning curve, if you like super simple then hp recovery discs could be worth the money dor you.
Link below is guide on installing Windows 7, useful as a rough guide on what involved.

  • Time machine disk failure after closing laptop lid

I have a Seagate 1.5 TB disk that I'm using for a time machine backup (USB).  For a long time, I had the disk formatted wrong and had this problem, but I re-formatted it (per Apple's instructions) and have been trying again.  Now, with it correctly formatted, I still have the same problem.
This is a laptop, so I don't leave the Time Machine application on, nor do I leave the TM disk connected all the time.  If I plug in the drive, run TM, and eject the disk before closing the laptop lid, I do not have any issues.  If, however, the laptop lid is shut at any point after TM completes, I have can never seem to eject nor unmount the TM disk.  For example, last night I ran TM and left the machine open overnight.  In the morning, the machine was used and shut per usual routine, except the drive was still connected.  Now there is a critical failure on the drive (Disk Utility can do nothing to repair the drive and suggests re-formatting).  Last night, the computer was plugged in and went to sleep after 15 minutes.  I have changed no settings regarding what the computer does on lid shutdown.
What used to work to eject/unmount the drive is to shutdown the computer.  Then I would unplug the drive before re-starting.  Now, however, I had errors with the drive (Disk Utility) and went ahead with a force eject.  That worked, and the drive still had errors that Disk Utility could not address.
I have a Macbook Pro (13-inch, mid 2012) running Mac OS X Version 10.9.2 (13C64); processor 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory.  My main drive is 750 GB (Macintosh HD).  I also backup a firewire 400 drive to this TM drive, capacity 250 GB.
So, first question: why is this happening over and over and over?  Is there anything I can do, apart from immediate removal of the TM drive after the backup completes, to ensure that it doesn't happen in the future?  Should I be concerned that the disk is failing mechanically?
    Thanks

I don't think you quite understand how Time Machine really works. But then hardly anyone does. Time Machine is intended to be left enabled always whether a backup drive is connected or not. What Time Machine cannot handle properly is a situation where the backup drive loses power for whatever reason. Time Machine treats this, as does the OS, as an improper disconnect of an external drive without being properly ejected. This in turn throws Time Machine a little bit of a loop.
For you I would suggest not using Time Machine. Instead use a third-party backup utility that you can either schedule or run manually as you wish. They will work with the same drive you have used for Time Machine, but you will need to first erase the Time Machine drive using Disk Utility. Please DO NOT try dragging the Time Machine backups to the Trash.
Here are some good backup utilities you can try:
    Suggested Backup Software
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Others may be found at MacUpdate. Each one can be used for a trial period. No need to pay for one until you've decided on which one you like best. I, for example, use Carbon Copy Cloner but please don't take that as a recommendation over the others. It's just my preference. All can be operated manually or can be set up to backup on a schedule you determine. Some can even be set up to backup as soon as the backup drive is connected.
