Laptop fitted with 10.5 but won't take 10.5 install disks
I am trying to erase and restore my laptop with OSX 10.5 (which my laptop is currently running), but when I go to begin the installation process it says that my laptop is not able to run 10.5. Is there something that I can do to still use this software version? I have misplaced my original install disks from when I first purchased the iBook in 2005. I want to completely wipe my drive so that it runs better and faster. Thanks!
Is your Leopard installer DVD an upgrade disc or a full retail installer? Did you first boot from the installer:
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
5. Wait for installer to finish loading.

What's the error message say, exactly? Does the error occur when you sync, or when you just connect it? Does the iPod appear in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES), or does this error occur before that can happen?
I have an old 4th Gen (color screen) iPod, which should be the same as an "iPod Photo." It's been sitting idle for a while, but I just connected it to my iMac running Mac OS X 10.7 and iTunes 10.6.1. Well I was able to obtain a work around download of Flash and it installed fine but Firefox tells me it needs updating so I go out, thinking I'm "IN" finally to update it and I get that issue of not being able to get the update for it. It's a regular laptop, not a touch screen or one of those new fangled ones for todays world. In fact it's a refurb so it's probably origin date was a year or so ago before all this MS stuff took off fully. So not understanding why I'm feeling like I'm being BLOCKED from getting the updated Flash I need and desire. If I click on the little "X" and tell it to ignore the warning the vid will play just fine but don't want to have to do that every time. Must be a better way.
Again, I'm sorry for posting in the wrong forum, getting this posted in the Flash forum was my desire but the way Adobe has this set up I just couldn't figure it out. I belong to ALLOT of forums and most are pretty straight forward but this one is confusing! -

Exactly! The password I used to log on here and write my post I figured was the same Apple ID password I would use to reset my computer login password. But my computer isn't recognizing it as the correct password so it wont let me update my login password. I have 2 user accounts on my computer.
As far as the link you provided, I already looked to that for help earlier. It states:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Users & Groups, click the lock to unlock it, then provide an administrator name and password. Select a user, then click Reset Password.
I did these steps, but I don't remember my admin password. The question is: How do I reset my admin password so I can reset my log in password.
Is my admin password the same password I use to log onto this website to post questions? If so, like I said previously, I already reset that password and my computer isnt recognizing it. -
I have moved to uk from ireland and bought new iphone, set up using my existing Apple ID account and profile but won't let me buy install or update apps??
Can anyone advise me on what I need to do?

But you need to switch your region/country to the UK store in your account information, as you can't use UK iTunes gift cards in the Irish stores, the gift cards are country specific.

i have an iMac with mountain lion 10.8.3 with boot camp 5.0.2 .i installed windows 7 -64 bit with boot camp but the boot camp didn't install drivers for windows please guide me for trouble shooting .

Copy the .zip file to a USB flash drive or burn it to a DVD in OS X. Install Windows as normal, insert the flash drive/DVD in Windows, copy the .zip file to the hard drive, extract it, then run the setup executable. -

If anyone knows, could you tell me what will happen if I download iTunes 9.0, and install it. I copied my CS5 install disk to a Flash Drive, then ran the "install" on my new computer. I had the ownership S/N, so-o-o-o, CS5 installed and "seems" to respond well. PROBLEM: PhotoShop. The Menu Bar, the Commands, the Tool Bar, the Color Palettes, and etc., etc., are all real small on my display -- I would estimate they are about 1/3 of the normal size. Same problem with Illustrator. I've made all the Screen Resolution and Print-Size settings and nothing remedies the small display. (My working page is fine; it's just the display that is REAL tiny!!) Can you help me? Do you have any suggestions for me to try? Should I re-install from the internet? Am I forced to upgrade my application? I appreciate any comments you might have. Thanks. -- Dennis

I've just migrated my Logic Pro 9.1.8 to a new Mac because my old computer crashed. They are asking for a serial number, but I don't have the install disks anymore. Is there someplace in the software itself that I can find the serial number?

Laptop sees Photosmart on network, but won't connect
I have a Pavilion dv4 with Windows 7. I have a Photosmart C4795. My printer used to be hooked up to my desktop, but my HP Desktop has crashed and it's trash. So now I'm trying to hook my laptop up to my printer on the network. For two days, I was able to connect and download with no problems, but my laptop would never print. Wouldn't even do a test page. Uninstalled and reinstalled at least 10 times. I ran the scan doctor and it said there was nothing wrong with my printer, but it wouldn't print a test page either. It then had me do an internal test page and that one work, so it diagnosed that the software was bad.
All of that was yesterday. NOW TODAY, I uninstalled and reinstalled the software. It's the most up to date software and drivers from the HP Support page. Now, my printer recognizes that the printer is on the network, but won't install the printer. It did the diagnostics, then brought up the screen where it showed my computer on the left, modem in the middle, printer on the right. It gets about halfway through setting it up, then quits and says it can't complete. I ran the scan doctor again and it says that the full software version is not installed. I JUST downloaded it from the website and installed it twice and it won't work. The version I download from the website is around 146mb, but when I download it from the scan doctor page, it's over 200 mb. I run that software and it is exactly the same.
I have tried to set it up via usb. It gets to the 7th of the 8 steps, then it won't go any further. Again, the printer is detected, but it says the appropriate drivers aren't there.
I have tried to set up it's own port using it's USB and a different driver, but that gives me an error. Unable to install printer. Operation could not be completed (error 0x000003eb).)
Would someone please help me, and then if I reply with what it is doing next, please respond?
Please help me get through this. Two days now and I don't have a solution.

Firefox 4 will no longer allow me to use a theme (other than the default) with a Persona. When I "try on" a skin, FF4 allows me to ''preview'' the theme with the persona but will not allow me to ''apply'' the persona without '''automatically''' switching my chosen theme (disorganizing my menu's, bookmarks, and tool-bars) back to the default. Firefox 4 also begins to load an all-default setting browser when it is first opened slowing my browsing start up. All issues were not experienced before the Mozilla Firefox 4.0 upgrade.

Thank you for your detailed question. It sounds like the real issue is pdf files. Are there any antivirus/firewalls that might be blocking this specific file type? or are there any preferences in your control panel that might be blocking this?

I ordered Microsoft Office 2011 with my Macbook Air, but only the trial version came installed - and no product key for the full version was ever emailed to me or included in the shipment. Three calls each to Apple and Microsoft have not solved this and I am at wit's end. Each company blames it on the other - I don't care whose fault it is, I just want the product key so I can use Microsoft Office! Please help.

Just purchased Final cut Studio, but DVD drive wont boot the install disk
I really need some help. I have an older G5 2.0 with 6 gigs of ram, and about 500mb of hardrive. Im running OS X 10.4.9. I just purchased FCStudio HD, but cant get the install disk to boot. My computer doesnt even read it. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some setting I should change?
G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9) My First MacI'm sure your drive size is a typo. You'll need a much larger drive if it's accurate.
Some install DVDs are unreadable and must be replaced.
But some older G4s and G5s had optical drives that could not play some newer DVDs. I can't tell you much more than that, I don't recall the details and the topic hasn't come up for many months. Try searching the forum?

Video Ram failed, won't boot from Leopard Install Disk
Hello,
Recently, I ran the techtools software, and got a report that my video ram had failed. It was suggested that I attempt to reinstall OSX. I put in the Leopard install disk, click the install or setup button or whatever it is, click to restart. When it restarts, a gray screen comes up, but the computer never actually boots up, from either the DVD or my hard disk.

Since your MacBook is still very new, you shouldn't have an problem with the DVD. If I were you, I'd call AppleCare Support and have someone walk you through re-installing Mac OS X. However, I really doubt this will help resolve what seems to be a hardware failure on your MacBook. Hopefully the folks at AppleCare Support can help figure out if you need to send your MacBook in for repairs.

EMac won't start from startup install disk
Aloha gang,
Our school purchased 25+ seats volume license of 10.4 last year and to date I have used 15. Most upgrades have gone on without a hitch but today I'm trying to upgrade some eMacs (same models as I have previously upgraded without problem) and it will not start up from the disk no matter what I try. I've tried:
* putting in the disk, clicking on install, clicking on restart so it restarts from the install disk
* putting in the disk, starting the computer and holding the C button
* putting in the disk, starting the computer and holding the option button to choose the install disk
None of those have worked. All that happens is the grey screen with the darker grey apple and the spinning thingy beneath it. I thought it might be that I was being impatient so I started it again, went to eat lunch and when I returned it was exactly where I left it. Any suggestions?
Oh yeah - I have tried using the original purchased media as well as backup copies of the media in all instances.

Thank you for indulging my ignorance and so graciously enlightening me as to your situation.
It seems to me that the difficulty you are experiencing has to do with individual computers not responding appropriately to the discs from which you are trying to boot them. The disks themselves may not be the issue at all, since you have previously booted other computers from them.
My first suggestion would be to check the computers themselves to see if they have issues that need to be corrected. If those computers are running previous versions of OS X and you have the install disks for them, see if you can boot from them and run Repair Disk. I would also check for hardware issues by running the appropriate Apple Hardware Test disk. BDAqua's suggestion to Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck is appropriate, especially if you are unable to boot from an install disk to run Repair Disk.
BDAqua's other suggestion also has merit. That is, using one of the computers that will boot the disk as Host, boot the recalcitrant computers into Firewire Target Disk Mode and run Repair Disk and if everything checks out OK, do the installation in that way.
No one is questioning the legality of what you are doing. It is just that most of the users who post have a single user or family license at best, so your licensing situation is a bit rare around here.
Please do post back with an update of how things go if you attempt any of the suggested approaches.
