Laptop freezes at HP logon screen, edit to post Caps lock key blinks 5 times

Hi,
This is an edit to my original post,
I have also noticed the caps lock key blinks 5 times in fairly
quick succession then there is about a second delay then
it keeps repeating the same pattern,also the number
lock key is also on
Don`t no if this has any importance?

I have a HP Probook 4535s (now out of warranty)
When I turn it on it freezes at the Hp start up screen
It does`nt matter which "F" key I press after a few
seconds it starts to beep (not in the identifying a
problem way) This includes the "Esc" key
Whatever key I have pressed it goes from just
text to having a white box around the text
but does nothing
I have reseated the RAM and them replaced
it I have also replaced the HDD, although it
is maller than the original all with the
same results, so am at a loss.
Any help and guidence would be most appreciated
Oh sorry I have also removed the battery and held
down the power button to purge it

Sorry to hear that. Please refer to the Blank Screen LED Error Codes document from HP Support. It sounds like a "General system board failure." The explanation says to contact HP for assistance. The motherboard might need to be replaced, and you will probably require the assistance of a technician to fix the problem.

I am sorry to here that you are getting this particular error code and that your initial troubleshooting has not helped.
I assume that you were looking through this page, and followed it.
Computer does not start and the LEDs blink or the computer beeps

Module error not functional
If you have followed the process within that page, related to a memory problem, and it is still doing the same thing, then you are looking at two possibilities. One or more of the memory modules in your notebook is defective, or the main board has a faulty connection.
You can try testing the memory individually or by swapping them (if there are two) into the different memory sockets. Doing this you can isolate if one memory chip or the other is defective, or if it is a socket problem.
Once you know which problem it is , you will likely need to get replacement memory, or a replacement board, or in a worst case both.

My laptop won't turn on when I push the power button, just light on the caps lock key blinking

my laptop hp mini 311-1002TU suddenly hang, and can't to respon anyting from user, then I shut it down by force by pressing the power button, but when I tried to turn it on again, my laptop does not turn on, just the lights in his caps lock blinking, please help to resolve this problem, thanks.

I would suggest keep trying to turn it on and get the blue screen error code to maybe a get clue of precisely what the issue is. Ultimately, the processor likely needs to be replaced in most of these 1-blink situations.
If you have experience taking a laptop apart, here is a link to the Maintenance and Service Guide for your model. Removal and replacement procedures begin in Section 4.
Otherwise, I would recommend taking it to a local repair shop because they may have processors and/or other parts that they can swap in and out to determine if the processor is actually bad or not.

Dv6 Notebook "Black Screen" following "Windows Blue Screen" error message. Caps Lock blinking!

I have a HP DV6 notebook. I left my computer on overnight and the next morning I woke up to find a Windows Blue Screen error message. It said to restart my computer. I was in a rush so I just closed the lid. When I returned I opened the lid and the screen was black. I pressed the power button to restart it and I haven't been able to restart it since. I understand that you are having an issue with turning on your notebook and the CAPS LOCK light blinks twice and then pauses. The following document 'Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps' will walk you through the steps that you need to follow. For your error code, it means that the BIOS has a corruption failure. This document will walk you through the necessary steps to get this resolved.
If for some reason this document does not resolve the issue please provide me with the model number to your notebook. I have included a document 'How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?'

You don't, take it to Apple for repair.

I see that you're having an issue with the notebook giving you a black screen. I also noticed you said only the NumLock and Caps lock is blinking.
Now, the BIOS update could have because this but we won't know until you let me know how many times the LED blinks.
Here is a chart which will tell us what's causing the issue.

Laptop won't start quickly but power wifi and caps lock light keeps blinking

Hi, it has happened before too but rarely but nowadays it happens on daily purposes.
When I switch on my laptop after leaving it for 8-9 hrs, it won't start up but instead power, wifi and caps lock light keep blinking. I tried removing battery and pressing power button for few minutes but nothing happens. Then i left it like that with lights blinking and after 15 20 minutes it booted. I did same yesterday too. I left it like that it booted after 20 minutes..so My question is "why is this happening? Is it a motherboard issue or is it because of cold moisturous weather here and laptop takes time to get warm up?" Should I show it to HP Service center?

Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I see that you are having a problem getting your notebook to boot up normally. As for what is causing the problem the blinking Caps Lock should tell us what is causing the problem as it should be blinking in a pattern. This HP document Computer Does Not Start and LEDs blink has a chart that will tell you what the blink codes mean.
This is most likely a hardware issue and you can give us a call regarding repair options. You can reach HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or start here if you live outside of North America.

Hp G62-a70SV Black Screen, Caps lock not blinking

Hello,
My hp G62-a70SV gives me a black screen when I push the power button.
Caps lock isn't blinking at all, wifi led is on.
Nothing is ever displayed on screen. I hear eventually the windows starting, but nothing more.
I connect external monitor, but there is no signal.
Is it problem of the display adapter on the system board?

It's always worth trying a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and see if the notebook will start.

IMac Black Screen, making some progress with the CAPS LOCK key...What???!!!

Ok, super weird situation here. My friend brought me his iMac because when he turns it on, it makes the chime sound, the front light goes on, but the screen stays black.
The first thing I tried (as a former pc user) whas to start pressing the CAPS LOCK ON and OFF to see if the computer froze at some point, but to my surprise, after hitting the CAPS LOCK many times the screen appeared.
Ok, but the white screen with the gray apple was all distorted, the apple with be filled with little rainbow boxes and lines on the whole screen, so I thought, the Video converter might be bad.
But then, when I tried for the third of fourth time, it appeared the same white scren with the gray apple and the progress circle spinning again, but this time it looked perfect, BUT it froze, and it just stayed there.
Thats what I have so far......any ideas? I tried the Controlcommand+PR but it didnt do anything......

It appears that the Mac is passing the Power On Start Test which results in the chime advising that the RAM seems OK. But there is something wrong with the boot volume. Try booting from the Install DVD that came with the Mac. In the Utilities menu of the Installer use Disk Utility to Repair Disk. In the left hand list choose the boot volume. On the right hand, in the First Aid pane press the Repair Disk button. Repeat until no repairs are reported.

Why is my laptop freezing on the gray screen with the apple logo when trying to power on?

In the last hour, one time it came on as far as the user sign in. But I wasnt able to click on a user, because the curser was constantly spinning. I have tried taking the battery out for a minute and putting it back in. Nothing. I have tried starting it while holding down the option key, and it pulled up a screen with a picture of my hard drive on it. So I clicked it, and it just goes to the gray screen with the apple logo, and does nothing else? Can anyone please help me? Are there any other keys that I can hold while turning it on?

I go to turn on my laptop 2 days ago.. and my computer pretty much took a crap.. I would like to fix it myself without having to go and pay for repairs.. On top of that I had ordered a new laptop for college that is already on it's way so I would really not like to pay for repairs.. I have several Recovery disks that BestBuy gave me when I had purchased my laptop from them. I try to put a disk in.. and nothing happens the screen is still black. Please try a hard reset and see if it works.
1. Power off your laptop
2. Remove the a/c adapter, battery and everything that is attached to your laptop.
3. Hold the 'POWER 'button down on your laptop for about 10 seconds.
4. Plug in the a/c power supply (without battery) and power on.

Won't boot, Caps Lock light blinking, black screen, tried everything I could.

Hello!This is a problem that even made me scratch my head. It started two days ago: blinking light, black screen etc. (It was double-blinking, which mean't BIOS corruption). I looked around the HP forums for help and tried what I could find (keyboard combination, making a recovery disc out of a memory stick, which failed), but nothing worked. This sorta thing has happened before, but somehow it managed to revive itself, so naturally I ignored it, because I didn't expect what was to happen next, which is right now. Incase I can't get any help from here, I'm gonna buy an new motherboard, but what I am really expecting for is that the fix will not hurt my wallet and not buying a new motherboard. Hoping to get a response as soon as possible and not this to be overlooked. Perhaps this post will help other people in the future (Who knows?). Anyway, thank you for your attention.

Hi , Thank you all for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6-7000sy Notebook and startup issues. Here is a link to computer will not start. I would start at the top and work my way down. Mine was fixed with reseating the HDD. Others have had it fixed with just reseating the Memory. Here is a video that shows you how to remove and reseat the HDD and memory. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. You could reset the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. Which has helped others as it restores the default settings. If you should get the system started again, I would run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics, It will tell you if something is failing. I hope something here helps any one of you fix the Notebook. Thanks.

Laptop Won't Boot. Caps Lock Button Light Blinking

I just bought a HP Pavilion DM4-2015dx laptop a few days ago. Turning it on this morning, it won't boot and the Caps Lock light is blinking. I have searched the HP site and Google for a solution to the problem and have found nothing to tell me what the blinking light means or why it won't boot up. Does anyone have an idea of what the blinking light on the Caps Button means?

My laptop HP pavilion Dv6 - 7132TX had a problem of blank screen and caps lock key blinking. I bought the laptop on 28th Apr 2012 and just before completing a year, I was facing a problem of computer inadvertently not booting. It used to show black screen with wifi LED red, power button LED glowing, and caps lock key LED blinking. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&docname=c01443366 On going to the above link, I tried to notice the number of blinks of caps lock key LED.Found that the blink count was an endless loop of 2 LED blinks. On checking in the above link, found that 2 blinks meant the problem was BIOS corruption failure. LEDs blink 2 times BIOSBIOS corruption failure(as found in the table in the above link) So I went on and found another link to find the BIOS upgrade on the same page , where it read, Step 3: Find and download BIOS updates Then followed to the link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?swlinkmsg=100&cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c00042629&lc=en&product=4057208 to download the driver. Downloaded the BIOS latest driver and installed it. It gave the same problem while restarting the laptop which was required to complete the bios installation. Link for the BIOS installation: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54501-55000/sp54629.exe However after several force shutdowns and reboots (since in my laptop the blank screen during bootup was inadvertent and random..) the installation could proceed and complete. After that voila.. Problem gone Hopefully it stays that way. Now next task on my mind is to fix the sleeping problem of my PC and the noise problem of the speakers. 1.Laptop does not sleep and goes into freeze mode with LEDS glowing and screen black.2.While the laptop speakers are on, they constantly make some background noise as if the speakers have a loose connection. However I got a clue that the problem is not with the connections but with the frequencies mismatch. Inherent problem of laptop architecture I suppose. However still wish to hear sounds clearly on my laptop. Had a good experience with HP with my earlier laptop from HP. However now things are changing I guess. Feel good that I could at least troubleshoot and save money. [Even gas is Rs. 84 per litre.] and more importantly time since I was working when I saw this problem and did not want to keep laptop powered on All the time just to avoid restart .
