Laptop freezes completely after about 10 mins

I have a satellite p305-S8837 & after you turn it on it completely freezes after about 10 mins no matter what I am doing whether I am on the internet or Itunes or Microsoft Word. Because of this I can't even do a proper shut down. I have to hold down the power button to shut it off. I have over half of my computer's memory left and no viruses. What is the problem?

Wondering if anyone else has run into this issue. My ATV suddenly started freezing images after about 3-4 mins into watching a show, pictures, or playing music. The sound still shows but image freezes and you can't even exit to go back to the main menu the whole remains frozen. All you can do is unplug it restart it.

  • My laptop freezes right after start up.

I have a Pavillion G6 2232tx laptop which was working fine until yesterday it completely froze. I had to force turn off by holding down the power button. after that it would freeze right after start up. I thought it was a software problem so I deleted the partition reformatted the hard drive, reinstalled windows 8.1 and on the very first startup where windows asks to set the computer's name it froze again.laptop's temperature seems normal, no dust or anything blocking the vents. memory and hard drive both pass the diagnostics test in the bios If any one of you could help me figure out the issue i would be very thankfull. sorry for bad english. it is my third language.

IT turns out there was a problem with the Ralink Wireless card

  • Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop shuts down after about 1 minute

Despite being plugged into AC power, my Lenovo 3000 N100 shuts down after about one minute. It boots properly but suddenly shuts down. I have not used this laptop much since purchasing it in 2006 and have seldom used it on battery power alone. Any suggestions before I buy a new battery? Maybe I am mistaken, but shouldn't the computer work on AC despite a depleted battery?

Hi Charleydog and welcome to the community,
Take the battery out  and unplug the ac.  Hold the power button down for about 15 seconds.  Do it twice.  Then plug only the ac in and see if it fires up.

  • Daughter's new Mac laptop loses connection after about 15minutes on her apartment cable provider network.  Her roommates older Mac works ok as did my daughters olde MacBook what could Be causing the shutoff?

Daughters new macBook loses connectivity on wifi at her apartment after about 15 minutes but works fine on other wifi networks. Her roommates older MacBook works fine on wifi as did my daughters older MacBook.  what could Be the cause?---mmannaxx

Assuming this does not happen at a specific time of day but randomly when ever she connects, she may need to power cycle the modem/router, with the MBP off, after it reestablishes connection and IP addresses, then power up the MBP and reconnect.

  • New Palm TX freezes completely after turning on Wi-Fi

    Hello,
I live in Europe and recently bought a new Palm TX over ebay. Everything runs fine, but when I turned on Wi-Fi (right out of the box, nothing installed), the screen becomes white, backlight is on, and it freezes. A soft-reset awakes the device. I already tried a hard-reset. Nothing helps. Sending it back to the dealer and re-sending it to me would cost a lot aof time and money, so I decided to change the mainboard by myself (I'm a computer technician, so that's no problem for me).
BUT: Where from can I quickly get a new motherboard? Are there any available at Palm.com?
    Thanks
    Roman

Thank you, rk87! I was unaware that I would qualify for AppleCare. Btw, the # is: 1-800-275-2273
The AppleCare tech who called me set about recreating the problem I was having. On his first try, his Maps app incorrectly identified the apartment bldg across the street from him as his Current Location: the exact situation I found myself in. However, he could not provide an explanation, nor a solution to correct the issue. This was after he sought advice from every person with whom he had access.
Apparently, my problem w/inaccurate locations has happened to many other Maps/Wi-Fi users. The problem, he explained, is that no one up the chain of engineers is truly aware that this condition exists. So, he asked me to present the issue - and its lack of a solution - again in a Feedback forum. Naturally, I don't have a clue as to how that's done effectively ...
So - once again - can you put me on the trail of someone who CAN assist?
    Thanks,

  • Laptop slows down after about 6 hrs.

I have a Satellite M500-ST6444 with Windows 7, 64 bit.It is about 17 months old. After it is on about 6 hrs., windows live mail goes very slow, when switching between emails. And same for explorer 9. When try to open another program, it takes many minutes to load. The wheel (old hourglass) just keeps spinning. Fan is running at 64% and cpu temp is about 64%. It takes about 30 minutes to get it to shutdown. AAfter reboot, all is ok, for about 6 hrs. It started doing this about 3 weeks ago. Any ideas? Thanks, Howie

    Satellite M500-ST6444
Let's make some tests after things slow down, Howie.
What happens when you boot into Safe Mode?
Start your computer in safe mode
Also, what happens when you boot normally into another account. If necessary, create one.
       Create a user account
Don't discount the possibility that your hard drive is failing. Components going bad tend to malfunction when they warm up. That would account for the slowdown as reads and writes must be repeated. Keep your backups up to date.

  • [SOLVED] Laptop freezes at startup after kernel upgrade to 3.13.6

Some days ago I got a new Dell Sputnik 3 Laptop and installed Arch Linux with UEFI Boot and gummiboot as bootloader. The installation was successful.
However two days ago there was an upgrade for the Linux Kernel from 3.13.5 to 3.13.6. When I restarted the Laptop after the upgrade of the kernel the Laptop freezed directly after pushing the power button (never got ahead of the initial DELL logo).
I ran the DELL hardware diagnostics to identify a possible damage of the SSD but everything was ok. Than I booted into a live system ad mounted the root partition and there was no problem work on it. Additionally I change the value of timeout in gummiboots loader.conf (it was commented out before). Since than I got the gummiboot boot menu at least. So narrowing down, I think something happened during the kernel upgrade. Unfortunately I have no clue what could it be since I am convinced that at the installation process some days before I did everything like it was described at the beginners guide so automatic gummiboot update had to be possible.
The drive is partitioned in the live system looks like this (look at sda):
    ├─sda1 8:1 0 512M 0 part /boot
    └─sda2 8:2 0 235G 0 part /
    fstab like this:
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    # /dev/sda2
    UUID=3f216fdb-f4c6-459a-856f-6f246d7a5bff / ext4 rw,relatime,data=ordered 0 1
    # /dev/sda1
    UUID=0F8F-2A3B /boot vfat rw,relatime,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,codepage=437,iocharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed,errors=remount-ro 0 2
    # swap
    /swapfile none swap defaults 0 0
I have and arch.conf in gummiboot looking like this:
    title Arch Linux
    linux /vmlinuz-linux
    initrd /initramfs-linux.img
    options root=/dev/sda2 rw
and the loader.conf of gumiboot looking like this:
    timeout 5
    default 56cccedc29f1418ab2d8f1762ea09471-*
Now, I don't know anymore how to proceed to identify the problem and hopefully solve it

looks like this issue might be the same:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=172961&p=1
If I find time I might try using an alternative to gummiboot to see if this works.
Update: There also seems to be a reopened bug report on this https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/33745

  • IChat 4.0 on leopard freezes after about 5 seconds

I have a 24'' iMac and my wife has a 13'' macbook. We both have the most updated version of leopard on our computers. The problem is that whenever we try to do a video chat with each other, my video freezes up after about 5 seconds, and hers keeps going. We both have set our bandwidth limit to none in ichat and the streaming speed in System prefs> Quicktime to 1.5 Mbps. Anyone know what else could cause this? Thanks

A "Crash" of an application is a Specific thing where you get an Error message saying it "Unexpectantly Quit" and a Log in the relevant Crash Error logs in Console. The marker underneath the app in the DOCK would also disappear.
An App that Freezes or part of the display of it Freezes would not normally be considered as to have Crashed.
Having said that I have had a repeatable issue where a Tester with me could definitely Crash my iChat. Sure enough each time he tried to call my iChat Unexpectantly Quit.
It turned out it was a faulty router at his end.
The Video freezing is normally a Bandwidth Issue (the 363k is fast enough tht this should not happen based on those speeds or the ones you tested)
It can be down to how busy the Processor is with on-line Widgets like Weather and Clock and others. or Background apps and Utilities
The way to see those is to open the Activity Monitor.

  • Laptop freezing up...

I have a Satellite A135-S2276 and for some reason it will freeze up after about 10-15 minutes of use. It doesn't feel overheated or anything in that nature but i have no idea what is wrong with it. I bought it from a guy that said it worked fine but he rewrote the hard drive with zeros to erase all of his data. I've tried pretty much all that I know to do. I know its not the hard drive or the memory because I put the hard drive in my other laptop and had know problems. Also, the memory that is in it I took out of my other laptop because I thought that might have been the problem. I have also flashed the BIOS with the BIOS available from Toshiba.com for my model laptop. But yet again... no solution. The weird part about it is that it seems that the only thing that is froze up is my mouse, the windows on my screen, and my keyboard. But if I'm installing something the progress bar still moves and dialog boxes still pop up. I'm don't know anything else to do with this thing now. Anyone have any other ideas?

    Satellite A135-S2276
Let's see if we can get some clues.
Note the computer-clock time of a lock up. Open Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc) and expand Windows Logs. Inspect the Application and System logs for suspicious events at that exact time.
Don't try to manually copy anything from there. Double-click such an event and click the Copy button to put its details on your clipboard. Paste that without editing into your reply. We need only the part down to where it says Event Xml.

  • Wokrout completed after ten seconds.

I just had my 2nd generation ipod nano replaced, and my battery died on my sensor so i bought a new one of those too. It links to my remote and my sensor but every time i start a workout it says workout completed after about ten seconds. Does anyone know why, and how to fix it?! I really wanna start documenting my runs and can't! THanks

Try rubber-banding the receiver into the Nano for a few runs and see if that helps. Maybe your receiver is lose?

  • LMS 4.1 Freezes after about 10 min of being Idle

We have LMS 4.1 installed. After about 10 min of being idle, the browser becomes frozen, eventually crashing it. We applied this fix for lagging hoping it would fix the issue, however it has not.

We have been tracking a problem  internally where the Getting Started page hangs on login.  The problem  is with changes to Cisco.com access.  We are actively working to get  those fixed, but if this is what you're seeing the workaround is as  follows:
    a.  Open the properties file name “gs.properties” under the path   NMSROOT/MDC/tomcat/webapps/cwlms/WEB-INF/classes/com/cisco/nm/gs/ui
    b. Update the field IS_DEFAULT_PAGE as “false”
    c. Clear the browser cache and login-in(Daemon restart not required)

    Any ideas?

  • My itunes music stops playing when my laptop screen closes down after about 5 min. im using windows7

my itunes music stops playing when my laptop screen closes off after about 5minutes. im using windows7

    DriveReadySeekComplete errors are either:
    - IDE controler failure
    - Bad cables
    - Bad harddisk
Out of these 3, the last one sounds the most reasonable with nowadays harddrives. And yes, your system will hang when all your important processes are hanging while trying to do disk I/O.
What windows does is switching back to PIO mode and never report anything, until you hit the nice BSOD telling you to replace the floppydisk in drive C...

  • My macs freezing after about 5 mins

Hi guys, really stuck here, started mac g5 earlier and was running fine for about 15 mins, I then left it to make a cup of tea and came back to it being frozen with loud fans. Turned it off by holding power button and thought maybe I should clean her out while I'm here. Did that not much dust put it back together and switched it on. After 2-3 mins it froze again so I switched off again using same method as before, then tried switching on, no chime, and both screens blank. Oh no. Off and on again still nothing. Read some forums and tried wiggling and turn battery and then it booted fine. So as soon as it booted I tried the disk utility and checked main disk. Verified worked fine but then I tried verify permissions and after about another two minutes it froze. So switched off again, swivelled battery as rebooted, left it to see what happened and it froze again about 2-3 minutes after booting. It an old 2005 model which I bought second hand about 9 months ago off eBay. It works perfectly until now. I installed a second hard drive just after I bought it with no issues at all. I realise it's and old model, but with wanting to produce music and knowing macs are the nuts for stability, having 3 kids and no free cash it's all I've got and too be honest i class it as my 4th child. I treat her good, clean her, don't run her in high temps, keep dust away etc. if anyone could help me Id really appreciate it. I'm lost with out it and if it's dead then I'm screwed. One more thing. About a week ago I finished using it and clicked shut down and walked away to which then randomly one of the house fuses ( as in main fuse for house) tripped. Didn't think this had anything in common as the wife had hair dryer and iron on etc. thanks anyway guys. Fingers crossed.
Update, the only way I can get it to boot is to remove power lead, open side panel and swivel battery round. This morning I got it to run for 10 mins.
Haw checked disk by doin fsck -fy in to which I did it a couple of times until volume ok message was shown.
Have thought maybe a psu issue but no pops or anything when turning power on at socket. It does make a click sound but it has always done that and also my graphics equaliser does the same.
    Pls pls pls help me.

Is it a LCS model? Any 2.5 GHZ and the 2.7 GHz models are LCS.
    PowerMac G5 Coolant Leaks/Repairs
    Have you checked the temperatures?
Use Temperature Monitor to see what the CPUs and the memory controller temps are:
Temperature Monitor: Description - Marcel Bresink Software-Systeme
Does the memory report correctly in the System Profiler/Hardware/Memory?
Any errors reported in System Profiler/Hardware/Diagnostics?

  • Firefox4 freezes on startup after about 10 seconds. A second parallel instance of firefox works normally as long as the first instance is left alone frozen. What causes this and how can it be prevented?

I am running firefox4 on win XP. When I start firefox, it says it is trying to restore a previous session which has only the blank tab. After about 10 seconds the whole instance of firefox freezes - none of the buttons work and the only way to close firefox is to use the Ctrl+Alt+Del and task manager. If I open a second parallel sessionof firefox, it works normally, as long as the first session is left alone (frozen). What could be causing the freeze up of the first firefox instance, and how can it be prevented?

I've done some research on the SQLite database. Whenever Aperture hangs up (like during auto-stack or opening the filter hud) there are thousands of SQLite queries happening. These SQLite queries cause massive file I/O because the database is stored on the disk as 1kb pages. However, the OS is caching the database file; mine's only 12MB. I'm trying to track down some performance numbers for SQLite on osx but having trouble.
It's starting to look like most of the speed problems are in the libraries that Aperture uses instead of the actual Aperture code. Of course, that doesn't completely let the developers off the hook since they choose to use them in the first place.
Oh, and if anyone is curious, the database is completely open to queries using the command line sqlite3 tool. Here's the language reference http://www.sqlite.org/lang.html
Hmm, just found this. Looks like someone else has been playing around in the db http://www.majid.info/mylos/stories/2005/12/01/apertureInternals.html
