Laptop freezes on HP logo during boot

We have a Pavilion Dv5 running 32-bit Windows 7. Today when my wife went to wake it (it locks and shuts off the screen after half an hour of no use) it instead reboot itself. When it boots, it immediately gets stuck on the screen with the HP logo.
I've tried the various key presses during startup (Esc, F2, F10, etc.). It seems to recognize that I pressed the key, because the little message in the lower left hand corner of the screen will say something appropriate to the key I pressed, but it never actually goes into Bios, or Startup Setup, or whatever. It just stays on the HP logo. It does not shut itself down, either, even after several minutes. It just hangs on the HP logo.
After reading other forum posts I tried several things. I did the HP "hard reset", which had no effect at all. I took out the hard drive and tried booting up that way, with no change at all. I tried removing each of the two memory sticks in turn as well, also with no change. There were not, before or now, any peripherals attached either.
I've run out of things to try. Is there anything else I can attempt or am I just toast?  Also, does the fact that nothing changed when I removed the hard drive mean that the hard drive is probably OK (and thus I can still get important files off of it through some other channel)?
Thanks for any assistance or tips!

  • Apple tv freezes at apple logo while booting

My apple tv was working pretty well, then I unplugged it ti connect my iPad via Hdmi and when I back to connect my apple tv it freezes at apple logo while booting it can stay like that for hours

I don't even know if this will work...buy a USB to micro USB cable and connect the AppleTV to your computer and try doing a firmware restore. Here are the instructions from the manual:
If Apple TV still doesn’t respond:
Disconnect the power and HDMI cables from Apple TV.
Connect one end of a micro USB cable (sold separately) to the back of Apple TV, and the other end to your computer.
Open iTunes on your computer, select Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.
The problem is, I don't know if your computer will be able to talk to the AppleTV if it can't even boot. So this procedure may not work. Good luck!

  • Laptop freezes at Windows Logo

Hi, I have hp pavilion DVD 2700 laptop. When I start it, it freezes at the window logo. Also the touch pad light and battery light is continuously blinking. Color of touch pad light is turning red and blue. I ran memory diagnostics test and it cleared it without any issue. Also I tried to install windows 7 it shows "windows loading file" and then again stuck at the logo sign. Kindly advise.

    Hi @Akki339 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Pavilion dv2700 Notebook and getting the HP Logo screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset.
When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
Here is a link to computer won't start for Windows 7. Windows 8 here. It contains what to do at the HP Logo screen included.
You might have to return the system back to Windows Vista. Clean install helps with software or drivers that are causing an issue.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • H61M-P25(B3) freeze on win7 logo on boot

H61M-P25(B3) boots up flash black screen then Win7 logo and freezes.
Apparently no problem at shop. (using their mouse, monitor and keyboard).
We are using Dell ST2420C 61cm monitor
Logitech Wireless Combo MK 529 (mouse and Keyboard).
    Win7 prof.

Problem is probably your Logitech KB/mouse, there have been numerous problems with that particular brand on many different MBs. Try with something else to verify or eliminate them as the source of your issue.

  • MacBook Pro won't get past Apple logo during boot

Hey, recently while I was using on my MacBook Pro (note: just simply browsing the internet), the battery ran dry and the computer shut down almost immediately. When I plugged it in and turned on the computer again, the familiar Apple logo appeared and looked as though it would start up normally. However, an unfamiliar grey progress bar appeared and the usual grey gear started spinning. The progress bar looks as though it reaches up 10-15% completed but the computer just shuts down after that every time. I know it has nothing to do with the charge in the battery as I tried doing it plugged in and even waiting overnight for the battery to charge fully with the plug plugged in.
So, I tried using Disk Utility on the Snow Leopard Install disc (my original MacBook Pro install discs had Leopard on it so I just used the Snow Leopard discs instead). After using the "Verify Disk" command on the Macintosh HD volume, it stated that 'Invalid node structure' and then stated that the disk could not be verified and needed repair. I then proceeded with using 'Repair Disk' and it did say 'Volume repair complete' but then stated 'Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.' This was when an error popped up and said "Error: Disk Utility can't repair this disk" and then told me to back up my files and reformat the disk.
I'm hoping that I don't have to reformat the disk as I haven't backed up in a while. I do have a separate partition on the hard drive that has Windows 7 on it that I can boot to. At least that means my hard drive hasn't completely died on me. However, I'm unsure what to do at this point to fix the computer. I tried to Safe Boot but it didn't change the outcome of start up.
Any ideas as to what I can do? I appreciate any help.

Thanks for the replies! Anyway, I gave DiskWarrior a try and it failed to work. The first time I tried it, I put the disc into the drive of my MacBook Pro and booted it from the disc. After going through the rebuild process it told me that due to a hard drive malfunction it couldn't append any changes to the drive. I then tried putting the disk into my iMac and used my MacBook Pro in Target Disk mode. This wouldn't even attempt to rebuild my drive saying that there was a hardware failure.
So, I booted into Windows 7 and saw that Windows was able to access the drive and read the files perfectly. All the files were in tact. I don't understand why disk warrior had a problem with it. Anyway, what I can do is reinstall Mac OS X Snow Leopard onto the hard drive again after moving the data onto an external hard drive using Windows. The only problem is that I would have to reinstall all of my programs while reimporting all of the settings and data that I can from the external hard drive. What I want to know is can I make an image of my hard drive (with SuperDuper?), and append that back onto my Mac's hard drive? Would that work again after reformatting the disk or would it just give me the same problems as before? Would it be better or easier to just start new and reinstall everything? Thanks!

  • Freezing On Apple Logo While Booting Up

Hello, my name is Joseph. Purchased my Macbook Pro 13" mid 2012 in September so I have had it around two and a half months. Love it. Last night I turned it on and it then became frozen at the apple logo and spinning wheel (booting up).
I contacted support today and I believe his name was Brett was very helpful and polite, unfortunately he says I will need to re-install the OS. Thankfully I should be able to grab my important files and folders.
Out of curiosity though while going through troubleshooting steps such as trying to boot in safe mode (didn't work), Disk Utility options (didn't work), and having the background operations appear while booting I noticed an error that neither of us could identify and was repeating.
vnode validate compressed file Type4 error: 22
Can anyone explain this? I have only found one instance of this before.

    Corrupt system file.

  • N200 shuts down during boot

    Dear Lenovo,
I have a problem with my N200 laptop. Notebook shuts down during boot. Sometimes it is immediately after "Lenovo screen", sometimes it is when Vista logo appears. I found out that this is always when notebook is "cold". It does't matter if I want to switch on my notebook or if I want to restore it from hibernation or sleep mode. Next thing is that it always crashes when fan starts work at full tilt (I checked the fan but it is clear). When notebook starts correctly then it works without problems. Usually I have to switch it on about three times then it is OK. This problem takes about 2 weeks. I have my laptop about 7 month. Do you have any ideas how to solve this problem?
And another thing - I forget to send registration card to Lenovo and now I am afraid that I will be without warranty. Can I send it still now?
Thank you for answer and sorry for my English.
    Gabi

Yes, problem with the video card sounds plausible! Any not so successful updates recently? It is sometimes to make a good uninstall, which is required to make a good install.
4in1 drivers should - esp. with W98 and ME - be installed while in SafeMode and with all autostarting programs disabled, for example Antivirus and utilities.
Else, since you have a damaged regedit, I would reinstall Windows. You might have done something for example an upgrade or new install the registry, not healthy, has made a note of. Some utilities also overwrite and change system files without good results.

  • 1TB Canvio freezing computer during boot up

I have a new Canvio 1TB Ext HD HDTC710XK3A1. My desktop computer will freeze up during boot up if the Canvio is plugged into USB port. Unplugged the computer will boot up OK. I have also tried this on my laptop and the problem also occurs. If I plug in the Canvio after computers are up and running the computers work OK untill the next boot up so I have to disconnect after I shut down the computer. Any fix for this problem so I can leave the Canvio plugged in all of the time?

  • [SOLVED] Two Archlinux logos show up during boot

Hi! I recently installed Archlinux on my HP Mini 110 netbook via a usb core image. I can see an Archlinux logo at the top of the screen during boot using the usb stick, but this is not the case in my installation. When booting up my netbook, I can see two Archlinux logos side by side. As far as I can remember, this does not happen at the first time I boot my machine with a fresh install. At that time, I was using vga=773 kernel boot option at my menu.lst, but my laptop monitor does not support this and grub asks me for a new parameter instead. I'm sorry but I really don't remember clearly how it happened, as it did not bother me at first, but it's getting quite annoying that you see something wrong everytime I boot up.
    The right way:
    A
    boot messages
    scrolling on
    the
    screen
What shows up in my case:
    AA
    boot messages
    scrolling on
    the
    screen
I have already corrected the vga option to suit my laptop monitor's specification (1024x576 is vga=866) but the problem still persists. I have also tried other vga options, both supported and unsupported by my laptop monitor, to no avail. Does this have something to do with intramfs, or do I have to recreate the logo? As far as I can remember, I mkinicpio a couple of times: once during installation, and once during post-installation configuration.

Do your physical cores seem like they are working properly? I really don't understand much about how it works, but this is the first that I've heard of an odd number of cores on a multi-core system being reported.

  • Boot freezes on Apple logo no matter what I try

The problem began when I was playing a podcast. Things started locking up on the screen, and I was getting fragments windows while trying to back out and force quit. I was able to start up once more after that incident, but things froze again while playing music on iTunes. The music continued to play, but the screen and keyboard were locked up. Since then, I have not been able to boot past the white screen with the Apple logo. What I've tried:
    1) Booting from OS cd (with original HDD, new HDD, and even no HDD). Still freezes.
    2) Replacing upgraded RAM with the original RAM.
    3) Reseting PRAM (commandoption+pr) Heard second chime, but problem persists.
    4) Started while holding option (I get the choice of startup drive, and mouse works, but still freezes on logo)
    5) Boot to a drive that has Windows installed (dual boot system). Get black screen.
    6) Held power button for 5 seconds with cord unplugged
    7) Unplugged all periphials.
    8) Tried different monitor and keyboard
    9) I can startup in verbose mode (command+V) and see info, but still freezes at logo

I just got exactly the same problem with my MacPro (2009) last night, exactly the same errors Rich666 have. The oddest thing is that I can access trough my local network within a Mac G5 and see the entire hard drives with all its documents??!! this means, the computer is working, but the screen shows only the gray screen with the logo, but frozen.
I've tried reseting the P-Ram, The Apple Hardware test, Boot with shift pressed to make the system load in limited version and I can't boot from the dvd, nothing works, always the same, the grey screen with the logo.
Last night I ran the Apple Hardware Test and after finishes didn't show any error, I decided to do "hakuna matata" turn the computer off, and try again the next day, this morning, it worked!... for just a few minutes, I saw the finder, and when try to open a finder window, again the odd windows frozen, the screen turned like it was 16bits and crashed again, and right now is like last night, frozen screen, tried the same over and over, I still can see the damaged computer hard disks through the network, the computer sounds like the regular working sound, but the only I can see on its monitor is the gray logo frozen. Frustrating

I'm not sure what's the situation now, but you may not get the logo - neither the penguin nor Arch logo:
