Laptop hp pavilion g6 2016 tx not charging or booting

My  laptop is hp pavilion g6 2016tx ( Intel i 5 with 1GB AMD graphics 4 GB RAM, 500GB HDD 15'' screen ) which is around 2 years old and now out of warranty.  I had a strange problem with it. I used it till last Sunday ( 24/08/2014) and after use I properly shut it down and kept in my laptop bag. On Monday evening when I was switching on it was not  booting. I plugged in the charger and then noticed that it was not charing and no LED light for charging. I did hard reset ( by pressing the power on button mor than 30 sec by removing battery and charger and then trying to power on) but system not booted nor charging. I checked output voltage of charger and it was OK, battery is also fine.
I took my system to authorised hp service centre on 28/08/2014, and in front of me they tried to switch it on and then told that there can be motherborad problem, and they will diagnose and tell me next day what is the exact problem.
Next day, 29/08/2014 evening they told me that some liquid spill is there on keyboard and NOT A SINGLE KEY is working. I told them that there is no chance of liquid spill as I am the only one using the laptop and until last shut down on Sunday ( 24/08/2014) laptop worked very well and all keys were OK.
Then they told that they tried to boot with a different motherboard and got error screen (blue) while booting, and  toldme that I have not shut down my system properly last time and even if they replace motherboard I may have a corrupt OS. They also told that they don't have spare Processor for checking my laptop (intel i 5 CPU) and have to order for new one. I asked them whether processor is faulty, then they said nothing.
I am a graduate in Electronics and Post Graduate in Computer Applications, and for past 20 years working in IT dept of a Bank and have experience in harware trouble shooting as well as on Software.
I told the service center people that I cannot believe that there is any liquid spill on key board and NONE of MY KEYS are working, because until my last use and shutdown on Sunday, system was working fine and no one else touches it other than me. I told them that when you replace motherboard, OS may give blue screen because of HW compatibility, but they are telling me that I did not shut down my system properly.
They are telling all unbelievable nonsense (as telling to a layman who doesn't know anything) to me which cannot be digested by me.
I feel my system can have some shorted component at power supply area on mother board or maximum a faulty mother board. But the service center people are trying to tell that my keyboard, motherborad , cpu as well as graphics card etc..( list can grow since they have not given me quotation as promised on 29/08/2014).
I doubt some foul play by the service center and they are trying to cheat me by removing good components and making me pay more than half of my laptop purchase price ( Rs. 46500/-) .
I have made some markings on my motherborad , battery , HDD and RAM to identify it in case some one changes it. But how will I know if they are removing my good Processor, as well as graphics card or even mother board which may have component failure at power area which is serviceable.( Like MOSFET, Capacitor etc).
How I can get the serial nos of all components of my laptop or identify if someone replaces it.
What could be the booting/charging problem . since my system worked fine until last shutdown.
I request help and suggestions on this, like what to do if the service centre cheats me.  Please Help!
Regds,
Sdev

Thank you for the reply. I am waiting for the quotation from hp. Sure I will contact hp directly. But the call centre support in these kinds of tech issues are of no use, at least from my experience. I did talk to the head of service dept (at service centre), and he told me that they don't have spare board or processor and have to order to hp once I accept quotation, but I can choose to go for replacement of any faulty components, once they receive the items from hp or  I can opt for just walk away from them without service by just paying their service charge of Rs. 850/-. In that case I have to find out some reliable fellow who does chip level service ( if at all possible.)

Neither the old battery or a brand new battery in the HP Pavilion ze4220 does not charge inside the computer.

That is an oldie. Those were prone to issues with the AC jack and I suspect that is what you have going on. You can buy a working replacement laptop on eBay likely for less than the cost of the battery.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-3164cl (battery not charging)

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-3164cl Entertainment Notebook PC that I purchased from Costco around 2 years ago. After having it for about a year and a half or so it just stopped working all together (wouldn't boot up at all).
So here I am trying to get it to work today. I researched various "plugged in, not charging" threads around the internet.
I eventually got it to boot up but the battery is not charging, it is just going down running off the battery.
I followed this link to try a few things Battery Does not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge
I have the led indicator lit up, telling me the ac adapter is working fine but yet the battery still doesnt charge. The bottom right of the taskbar doesn't say "plugged in" or "plugged in, charging".
Going to the second step of "troubleshooting the system board" on the link I provided had me do this...
"If the power supply works properly, troubleshoot the system board using the following steps:
Keep the computer connected to the external power source and remove the battery.
Press and release the Power button to start the computer."
When I do this my Notebook doesn't power on, it needs my battery to turn on (and it does just fine, with everything working) but as I said, the only problem is that the battery isn't charging.
Then I read further and see this...
If the power LED is on , but the computer does not power on, then the computer needs to be repaired. Contact HP Service and Support for further assistance.
So any suggestions as what to do next? I really don't want to send it in (too costly). I already tried buying a new ac adapter and that wasn't the problem. Maybe buying a new battery perhaps? I was thinking this because it wasn't used for quite a few months, but I was thinking it at least had to receive the charge at the very least. Maybe dying once I had the ac adapter removed, but when I first got it fired up it was up around 86% even after all this time and I was doing a few updates to the computer when I noticed it wasn't charging, but then I had ran it down to about 13% so I shut it off for fear of it turning off for good.
    Any help would be appreciated.
PS: I already tried the reset method by removing the battery and disconnecting the ac adapter and holding the power button down for 20 seconds. I also tried the method of going to Start > Device Manager > Batteries > Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery > uninstall, Then scan for harware changes.
Both these methods didn't work for me.
Again, thank you in advance for reading this plea for help.

    Hey there,
did you resolve the problem? I have my computer at 48% until it says plugged in, not charging.

    Hello joshj94.
I understand the battery does not charge. I will do my best to assist you!
The issue may be as simple as testing and calibrating the battery. If so, following the steps in this HP document should resolve the issue: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c00821536
If the issue is not resolved, after following all the steps in the document, this would suggest you have a hardware failure. I would contact HP technical support for additional assistance. Their options will be based on the warranty status of the computer. • No AC Power, Battery not charging, Windows boot up issue

Searched the forums but could not find an answer for my specific problem.
    COmputer: L355 - S7905
    Windows XP Professional
Issue: installed new motherboard.  When on AC power, laptop shows a steady green LED light but will not boot up without the battery installed.  Will not stay running when the battery is removed or dies.  When plugged into AC power, battery charging light is on but battery continues to lose power; will not charge.  Had the computer operating properly initially but noticed the power issue.  I ran a chkdsk on one of the subsequent boot ups and now have a "config.sys file missing" error and can not get into windows any longer.  I was going to try some of the battery charging suggestions listed on this forum but no longer can get into windows or the recovery council.  Last screen attainable says to select "R" to repair system using a Windows disk.  Can not get to a DOS prompt.
    Status so far:
    - Ran volt meter check on power adapter and getting steady 19 volts.  Various motherboard checks with a voltmeter are seem normal.
    - All LED lights on laptop are indicating the computer is working in a proper state (ie power light on, batt charging light on, HDD light on when in use, etc)
    - replacement motherboard is the EXACT same motherboard as the original.  Same model - identical.
    - Can get passed BIOS screen successfully; can get into boot options screen (Safe Mode options, command prompt, etc) but all options eventually default to an error message I get from the chkdsk program and I can not go any further.
    - Laptop did not come with an original Win XP restore disk.
    - Battery is a replacement but is the exact same part number as on the Toshiba original battery.  Battery seems to be operating perfectly once it is charged (had to go to computer accessory store for charge)
    Questions:
    - Why is the AC power only not able to run the laptop??  Is it a software issue??
    - Once I can get into the windows OS, I presume I should be able to correct the battery not charging issue . . . is that right??  Sounds like it is a software issue from what I have read on the forums.  My plan was to reinstall the Windows operating system but I can not do that on battery power alone.
Any suggestions on how to proceed??
    Thank you - Paul
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Lawrence - Your suggestion was right on target, the replacement adapter solved my power problem.  I would have never believed that to be the problem since the digital voltmeter was indicating the required 19v from the defective adapter, I would obviously NOT have figured this out on my own.  Thanks for your time, response and help on this issue, I really appreciate it.

  • Porsche Design 9981 Not Charging or Booting

I have a Porsche Design 9981 and I put into charge last night the charger seems to be working but the phone is not charging what so ever I have attached via USB cable to a mac and still nothing have taken battery out and left for 15 mins and still nothing any advice the unit is like 30 days old

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain directly connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB, not a cradle):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Note carefully please that "new" and "know good" are not necessarily the same things. While rare, a "new" battery certainly could be defective. Rather, the simplest (and least costly, btw) method to conduct this test is to find someone with an identical BB who has no issues...trade batteries and see what happens.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Iphone4 not charging or booting up.

My phone has been holding charge until today. I let it drain the battery accidently this morning. I never notmally let it drain the battery, I always try to keep it full charged for business however when I plugged it in it just goes to apple logo and then to homescreen and shutsdown. Its on a cycle of doing this continously.
I've tried another charger, tried to plug it into the computer but it can't boot up long enough to restore it. I've tried holding home/power button for 13 seconds and it just doesn't stay on.
Any ideas, is the battery in need of replacing? It seems like it's only since I updated to ios 6 but can't downgrade because it won't even let me boot up long enough. It's literally seconds before it shutsdown again.

Possibly either damaged pins in the iPhone socket or a faulty USB cable.  Also, some computers do not provide enough power via the USB port to charge an IOS device.  What is the battery status indicator (top right of the display) showing when connected to your PC?
Do you have access to another cable or a mains charger?

  • IPod will not charge or boot up correclty

I purchased a brand new iPod (video) 30gb for my daughter. Followed instructions and when connected to the machine, the iPod makes a clicking noise (sounds like a hard drive), the screen shows the apple logo and then the "sick" iPod and then shuts down. I have tried to reset, charge, etc. No luck. I bought the same type iPod for my son and it is working without problems. I am about ready to attempt to take it back to the store but it is two hours away. Will they replace it since it is new? Also, can you use two iPods on the same PC? Thanks for any assistance....

I really don't quite understand that. How about a bit of clarity. lets start with proper identification of your notebook. You have mixed up dv7 and the beginning of an Intel CPU identification. that is not a viable identification number. When you remove the battery take a look in the compartment revealed to find the p/n. Post it here please.
When your battery is replaced with another battery in your laptop does it charge? Is the replacement battery a known working battery?
Have you tried the battery check in BIOS or the HP Support Assistant?
Does your notebook boot into Windows with just the power adapter connected?

  • Toshiba Satellite L455D-Plugged in, not charging + AC power

Is there any way to run my laptop on AC power for an extended period of time?
Also, sometimes my laptop doesn't say plugged in, not charging, but most of the time it does...is there anything I can do or will I absolutely have to get a new battery? (My laptops under warranty, but I'm a struggling college student and am lucky if I have twenty dollars in the bank, much less $80 for them to hold on to until the batteries are swapped)
    Help is greatly appreciated!

at least you caught it while it was still under warranty.
once you get the new battery, try it out and see if that fixes things.  while waiting, inspect the prongs on the laptop in the battery try and make sure nothing is bent or looking corroded (or loose).  The battery adapter plug socket on the laptop should not be loose either.

  • I-pod touch not charging

Had this i-pod touch for one year. Hasn't been misused and now not charging. Apple shows on screen when charging, but freezes-up and doesn't charge.

I am having this same problem as well. I have the 8gb 2nd generation and for some reason it will only charge on my work pc, which is no longer allowed. I have tried my desktop and 2 laptops at home and still does not charge. I even have the powermat wireless charger and it doesn't work with that either, nor does plugging it into a wall outlet. It has been giving me trouble like this for the last 2 months. It's warranty expired 3 months ago...go figure. It is only a little over a year old and has not been misused either. When I took it to work the last time I even did a factory reset on it and that did not solve the problem either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
