  • Satellite L635-S3030

I am looking for recovery disk for my sisters laptop (Satellite L635-S3030). She purchased it as Best Buy last year. About a month ago it wouldn't boot so she took it back and they said her harddrive was bad and that they needed her to order recovery disk. I went to the download section but I didn't know what I needed to download and what I didn't so I am hoping someone can help me out. Thanks for any help

If the HDD is "bad" and it won't boot, nothing is going to help until a new HDD is installed. Once a new HDD is installed, see the section of the User's Guide "Recovery of Internal Storage Drive" starting on page 57. If she did not make recovery disks as she was instructed to do when she started up the computer, you can order Recovery Media from HERE.
If I were you, I would try the HDD recovery method also covered in the reference I gave you before I did anything further and it just may work.  If the HDD is truly "bad", it certainly can't hurt anything.

  • Satellite L635-10P - Stuck with system repair and blue screen

    Help!
I have a satellite L635-10p with Windows 7. Windows does not load, getting blue screen after the 4 colorful glow bug, windows icon. Safe mode also resulting in blue screen
System repair is stuck in a black screen with movable cursor (white arrow).
Do not have recovery disk. misplaced it. lost.
    please advise:
    1. how I may get the data, document files from the desktop?
    2. how to fix this?
    thanx

    Hi there,
If you don't have Windows DVD then i advise you to download Ubuntu Live CD. You can run it without installing it, and you can backup you data from there.
If you have DVD with Windows on it, insert it and wait for it to load. When it loads then hit "Other options" or something like that or maybe "Advanced" and there you will find "Command Prompt" hit it and in the console type "notepad.exe". Why you may ask, well you will get Notepad window and you can browse your hard drive and copy and paste data. If you can't see all files just be sure to select "All Files" in File types. That's the way I backup up my data.
    2. What is the error on the blue screen ? Have you tried to Google for it ?
    Regards Strahinja.

  • Satellite L635 freezes up when running on battery power

    Hi,
I've bought a Toshiba satellite L635 yesterday, and whenever I try to work on it for more than 5 minutes, the entire computer freezes up nad remains stuck.
After I turn it off and on again and run in safe mode, it works just fine.
When the computer is plugged in to the AC power, it works fine too.
I've tried to recover the OS and settings, but it still freezes up after about 5 minutes of work.
I've also tried to kill all the unnecessary processes, but it still freezed up on me.
    I will appreciate your help,
    Eli.

Hi,, The problem is on Power menagement, the system tries to extend battery life by reducing performance, so go to: ControlPanel > Power Options > Change Plan settings from here click -Change Advanced power Settings- then in - Processor Power Management - increase % of - Minimum Processor State in both Battery and Plugged in modes. I increased them to 15% and its helped to forget this problem. Also dont forget to update your BIOS from toshiba support, version of 2.2 availible. Wish this will help you

  • Can't mount NFS from my Arch laptop, am I missing something obvious?

    Hello,
I have been trying to solve this issue for over a week and tried everything that I can imagine with no luck...
    Set up:
    - Qnap SS-839 Pro with several NFS shares on
    /share/to_sort
    /share/movies
    /share/music
    etc.
    - MythTV frontend/backend running Mythbuntu.
I can mount my NFS shares without problem. I use this fstab.
    192.168.1.100:/share/Music /var/lib/mythtv/music nfs nolock,async,proto=tcp,rw,ac 0 0
    192.168.1.100:/share/Videos /var/lib/mythtv/videos nfs nolock,async,proto=tcp,rw,ac 0 0
    - Arch laptop
I can't get to mount any of the NFS share:
    [18:59:14][[email protected]]
    /mnt/aether Arch64# /etc/rc.d/rpcbind restart
    :: Stopping rpcbind                                                      [DONE]
    :: Starting rpcbind                                                      [DONE]
    [18:59:32][[email protected]]
    /mnt/aether Arch64# mount 192.168.1.100:/share/to_sort/ to_sort/
mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking.
mount.nfs: Either use '-o nolock' to keep locks local, or start statd.
mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified
    [19:00:03][[email protected]]
    /mnt/aether Arch64# mount 192.168.1.100:/share/to_sort/ to_sort/ -o no-lock
mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified
I tried using the 2 following lines in my fstab on  my laptop but nothing works:
    1) 192.168.1.100:/share/to_sort /mnt/aether/to_sort nfs nolock,async,proto=tcp,rw,ac 0 0  (same option than under mythbuntu)
    2) 192.168.1.100:/share/to_sort /mnt/aether/to_sort nfs defaults 0 0
I'm no guru when it comes to nfs sharing etc, but I really can't see what I am missing here, nor whatelse can I try!
Any idea will be more than welcome!
    Thanks in advance
    Ludo

I finally solved this problem after 4 months after someone posted a similar issue with Arch few days ago...

As you can see, it is now working and I am now completely puzzled...
How come reinstalling this package solved the issue?
Any idea on what the problem was would be more than welcome

  • Multimedia Controller missing Satellite A200 Win XP

    I have a Satellite A200 TJ9 model laptop (Canada).
I just installed a fresh copy of Windows XP PRO on it. (Originally came with Vista...but made the laptop waaaaay too slow).
My problem is that I can not find a driver for a Multimedia Controller (not to be mistaken for Multimedia Audio Controller or Video Controller).
I have sound, video, and every other driver has been installed. But I can't find out what this Multimedia controller is.
    Anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks

Try Unknown Device Identifier 7.00 to see if it can lead you to the proper driver.  http://www.zhangduo.com/udi.html

  • Laptop is Hanging Frequently- Satellite A300

    Hi friends,
My Tosiba laptop Satellite A300, Working on windows 7 is hanging frequently when i am opening any pages or drives. I had formatted the hard disk fully and still it is having the same problem.
Can any one suggest me, what wil be the problem, whay i have to do.
    Thanks in advance

I had formatted the hard disk fully and still it is having the same problem.
If it doesn't run properly just after restoring the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media then you most likely have a hardware malfunction.

  • Presario 756NR Laptop CD\DVD Missing

I seem to have the same problem as some of the people with the CD\DVD is either missing or not installed.
I have tried the removing of the upper and lower filters  ( they are not in the file) and the device is not in the device manager.
I have done a total reformat this worked, I was able to load all the programs, then all of sudden it was gone.
I have pulled out the unit and put it back in, check the bios ( which is very limited ) on this model.
I have checked the event viewer to see where the problem started all it said was failed to load and bad block.
Is this a cause because of Norton's system that comes with it......dvd software?
I have this for a little over a year and all of sudden this started. So I know it still works it just shows up when it wants too.
Is there a different fix, or software that I should remove to solve this.
Any help would greatly be appreciated
    Thank you

I have the exact same problem.
    I have tried everything mentioned on this thread and even removed the drive momentarily to isolate the problem. After I have used all the solutions I could possibly find on the internet, I have derived a few questions;
                                             1. Is the drive physically broken? - The laptop's almost a year old and I hardly use it for burning DVDs. But, I have used it a few times to watch a few movies. There was a time that I've used the drive to read AVI movies. It made a very loud noise due to the imbalanced weight of the disc which was a few days before my drive disappeared.
                                             2.  Is it an OS(Vista Home Premium) issue? - I have worked on its registry (deleted upper and lower filters), downloaded a quick fix from Microsoft (the same procedure as the other conveniently packed into one file), tried rebooting and putting the PC to sleep and even checked the Device Manager for the drive (which is not possible since there's no DVD drive on the Device Manager to begin with). But I tried booting with the drive with another OS disk and still didn't work. I am unsure that it is a software problem.
                                             3. Is it the physical connection - I travel and use the machine almost everyday. It may have been jolted off from its connection between the drive and the board or a part within the drive itself had been jerked off.
I haven't tried removing the drive and installing it to another machine. I would deeply appreciate it if anyone would provide a solution or even just an explanation of whats happening to the Presario 756NR's  GSA-T20N Super Multi-Rewriter Drive.
    Many Thanks in advance

  • Problems with my laptop starting - Satellite P745, Windows 7

For the past few months I've been having a very strange problem with my laptop. I have a Satellite P745-S4380 with Windows 7. There are times that I can shut it down and turn it on with no problems. However, a majority of the time when I shut my computer down, it will not turn back on. When I push the power button, the following happens:
    the power button lights up
    the fan starts running
I never see the "Toshiba" screen and my computer does not start
The only way I've gotten my computer to turn back on is to either:
    1) unplug my power and let my computer run in this "fan running, power light on" mode until the battery dies - then generally when I plug it back in, it will start right up
    or
    2) wait 5 to 7 days, then it will start right up
I don't use it on a daily (or even weekly) basis because I am on the computer all day at work, but I would have to guess this started around June. I'm trying to determine if this is something like a motherboard failure, or if it's some sort of software/hardware update that is not setting well with my machine. Has anyone else had this issue? Any ideas on things to even try troubleshooting? I think it may be related to an update or setting (maybe because I don't want it to be the motherboard) because even if I go to reboot it at times, it will shut down but will not come up and it will get hung in the same state as I described above. If my motherboard is bad, would it act like this? I'm at a loss with where to even start...
Something else to mention is that if I put it in "hibernate" mode, I haven't seen this issue.

Hi ! There are many discussions about whether you should shut your PC down or just leave it run. I never allow my PC to go into sleep or hibernate mode. I allow my monitor to shut down after 15 minutes of no activity. I turn my wireless mouse off when I'm done with my PC. When I return to my PC, I turn my mouse on and my PC starts up immediately. That is the way I use my lap top. It's a choice for you to make. I have no proof it it is good or bad practice. Of course this would need to be changed if your operating only on battery.

  • Satellite M645 S4070 optical drive problem

I have used my laptop for a year without problem.
Last weekend, i just noticed that my optical drive did not work any more.  When I put a DVD in, the drive indicator light flashed for couple seconds, then off.
I checked device manager, the system shows the optical drive information, but with a exclamation mark which means sth is wrong.
I uninstalled the driver and restarted my laptop.  It shows that the driver was not properly installed.
By the way, I believe that I already disabled ODD power on/off utility.  I use windows 7.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Peter,
I am having the same trouble as numerous others have mentioned on the board.  I have a Satellite L635 running Windows 7 and although I have had it for just about a year now, I have had no problems with the CD/DVD drive (very little used BTW) until today.  I've searched the boards and have done everything suggested...I already had all my power options where they should be (except my model does *not* have one specific for the optical drive--just the cooling method and FN Tab doesn't work on my model either), so I tried to uninstall the power saver, rebooted, and it didn't work.  I tried MS Fixit and it didn't work.  I went to the run command prompt and typed in regedit like another post suggested and went through those directions. All I had listed was upper filter, so I deleted that, rebooted, and found that it messed with my iTunes settings.  I had to install the lastest version of that anyways, so now, 7 hours later after the drive first took a crap, my iTunes is still giving me the message that "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.  This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software.  Please reinstall iTunes."
After I had done the bulk of all of the suggestions, I rebooted and I was able to get info off of one disc, but then it crapped out again part-way through the second one.  Any other suggestions???

  • Resuming from s2ram -f freezes Toshiba Satellite

About 1 in every 10 times that I resume from an s2ram -f, which is what is needed to bring my laptop down into standby, my computer will completely freeze. If I can see htop while this happens, it reads that 100% of one cpu core out of four is being used by the kernel. I can't check anything else at this point because my computer will be frozen. I have a Toshiba Satellite L635 and run arch i686. Please ask for any more information if it's needed. I'll be very grateful if anyone can help me out here.

Did you check the log files? At first I would suggest you look into the files starting with pm_, which are in particular relevant to suspend/resume. If there is nothing relevant in them, check messages.log.

  • Satellite A200-1K6 does it have RAID possibilities?

I bought a a200-1k6 a week ago, and the shop told me it contained 3 hd with the possibility to use them in a raid config. Apparently the laptop doens't contain three hd but only 1 with three disks in it.
Now i'm wondering if it is possible to have a raid setup on this laptop inspite of missing the extra hd's at the moment...
I can't find anything on it so i'm afraid it isn't even possible..

    Hi
Some notebooks from the Satellite A200 series support two HDDs and some notebooks were delivered only with one HDD.
But all A200 notebooks dont support the RAID functionality!!!
The Satellite A200-1K6 was delivered only with one HDD. This SATA HDD supports 3 disks and 6 heads.
This means that 2 heads writes and reads data from one disk inside the HDD. But this has nothing to do with the RAID!!!
Once again; The A200 does not support RAID!
    Hope I could clear this.
    Best regards
