LAPTOP IS SLOW

HEY EVERYONE...HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP ME.  WHEN I AM TYPING I HAVE TO STOP AND WAIT UNTIL MY COMPUTOR CATCHES UP WITH MY TYPING.  IT HAS NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE...LIKE I WILL TYPE LETS SAY BEST BUY...I HAVE TO STOP AND WAIT FOR IT TO CATCH UP....ANY IDEAS?  HELP

Well in that case, I'd definitely just take it back. Mistakes do happen, but I hope that it's nothing serious.
On a side note, if you get this before you go in, you can try going here > http://www.malwarebytes.org and running their scan. It's free and usually catches most things. That way you can at least rule out malware.
If you like my post, or solution to your issue/question, go ahead and click on the little star by my name and/or accept the post as the Solution. It makes me happy.
I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year 5 years ago. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

  • Laptop runs slow until after suspend/resume

Ever since the update kernel 3.4 my laptop runs slow until after a suspend/resume.
It seems something has gone wrong with the power management settings from powerup, that then get corrected through the suspend/resume cycle.
Its now getting rather anoying having to suspend my machine after boot, just to be able to use it.
Does any know what the problem might be or what information I should look at to help identify it.
Here is some info on my machine:
    HP Compaq 6715b, AMD Turion64 X2, ATI RS690M [Radeon X1200 Series] (Actually X1300)
    Linux tigger 3.4.5-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jul 16 21:35:54 CEST 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Perhaps you need to disable autosuspend for the USB hub too. Try
    echo -1 >/sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend
    for i in /sys/bus/usb/devices/*/power/autosuspend; do echo -1 > $i; done
and see if that fixes the problem.

hp laptop is slow to start checked for virus none found

    Hi,
Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Bios option ( usually f10 ) and under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.
If both the above tests pass, try the following.
From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, click Computer, left click Local Disc C once to highlight it, right click Local Disc C and select Properties.  Click the Tools tab and then click the button to 'Check the Drive for Errors'.  In the following window make sure both boxes are ticked and then click Start.  Agree to schedule the check at the next system restart and then restart the notebook - this process can take several hours to complete before loading back into Windows.

  • Brand new laptop: Incredibly slow and laggy.

    Hi,
My mum received a brand new laptop on Saturday (this exact laptop) it hasnt been overly used as yet but the laptop seems very VERY slow. Browsers take a good while to open, sites like Facebook take ages to load - Farmville 2 for example takes an age to load and even when it does its very laggy.
Why is this band new laptop so slow? Nothing has been installed on it other than Firefox and the spec of the laptop seems pretty reasonable. Windows 8 is horrible but thats another issue.
Can anyone help or give any advice?

Do you open farmville from the laptop or from the internet? Have you checked the speed of your LAN or wireless?
Which are you using wireless or LAN NIC?
When you open application on the laptop is it slow?
Trying to determine if it is the connectivity is slow or if it is your laptop.
Also what version of AMD Catalyst are you using?
Here are some things you can do to make sure you are fully updated.
Make sure you have the most current .NET Framework 4.0
Make sure you have the most current DirectX 11.2
Make sure all of the other Microsoft Updates are complete as well. Missing Updates can cause issues.
Uninstall the AMD Catalyst you have now, before installing the Beta version.
I know most are trying to use the AMD Catalyst 13.9, which is used Windows 8 64-bit.
The AMD Catalyst 13.11 Beta9.2 Driver can be downloaded from either of these two links:
    AMD Catalyst™ 13.11 Beta9.2 for Windows®
AMD Mobility Catalyst 13.11 Beta9.2 for Windows

  • My laptop becomes slow after incurring privacy issues (118000 in one day) that are noted as being mozilla profiles

I clear my laptop with A S C programme but latest review identified 118000 privacy issues in less than one day. This is a regular problem. Needless to say this overall issue slows my computer down until I clean it up again. The programme I use identifies the privacy issues are down to Mozilla profiles.

  • MachineInformation stopped working/ Laptop very slow

    Hello,

You can download a free copy of Windows 7, 8, 10  from Microsoft's site and run Windows repair.

  • Laptop operation slows down

HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC, 6 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD, Windows 7 64 bit O/S
4/4/15 for about 5 days this laptop, after being on for a while, starts slowing down. CPU usage isn’t max’d but does get up to 20+% at times. Main problem is applications which normally start immediately (e.g., VLC-player, Excel, IE) don’t ‘appear’ for a while and, when open, operate initially as “not responding”. The C drive (SSD) has 60GB free space. I have run Malwarebytes and Kaspersky with no reported errors. A couple days ago I restored to a point before the last Windows update (March 2014). When this problem occurs I examine Processes tab in Task Manager and no processes are observed to ‘hog’ the system resources. Of 6 GB RAM around 3GB is available. I uninstalled a recent upgrade to Spotify which I thought might be a culprit but the problem didn’t go away.
Mostly, if I restart the computer the problem either doesn’t appear OR appears after some time. I have stopped hibernating because (and I can’t fathom why !!) starting up from an ‘off’ state takes less time than from hibernation.
Local PC repair shop thinks my main C drive (SSD) may be at fault and suggests I go to its manufacturer and see if a tool exists to ‘check’ the drive. I looked in “HP Support Assistant” program but it offered not ‘tool’ to check the drive or anything else related to this problem.
Is it likely my SSD is at fault?  Any way to ‘check’ my SSD?
    Any suggestions?

I examined the link you provided re Kaspersky settings.  I don't think that will help but I'll keep it in mind.  If I proplem manifests itself again I will disable Kaspersky to see if it has any impact.
Just before checking this thread my laptop, just restarted from backup, exhibited the "slow" problem.  I tried opening Internet Explorer (ver 11, auto update enabled) TWICE and, both times, I got "not responding" if the application opened at all and, on 2nd try, it never opened.  I had Windows Task Manager running and 'IE' never appeared in the Applications tab nor in the Processes tab (as "iexplorer.exe").  I closed all applications (only Outlook was still running) and performed a RESTART.  It took the PC a "long" time just to 'log off'; shutdown after that appeared swift enough.  The startup went rapidly after that and I'm on IE now with no slowness.
          ++++  Any comments?
One other thing I've noticed.  When running Task Manager I've tried to open 'Resource Monitor' from the Performance tab.  It 'opens' but never fully populates its window.  I can move its window around but its contents appear to be whatever was beneath the window when it opened.  Any suggestions on this?  Would this window be of any use to me (if it works)?

  • New laptop running slow, why?

It's about a month old and all of a sudden decides to freeze up quite a bit especially during burning media conversions, when this was first purchased, disks took about 14 mins, now their taking close to a hour. In the mean time while conversion is in progress the laptop freezes up and you cant use it

  • Core i7 HP laptop super slow.

Hi, my HP Pavillion DV6-3194CA laptop (XG752UA) starts freezing, lagging and generally being slow even in the simplest of tasks (even having a youtube video, or a few tabs open) it's much worse when doing such things as gaming (becomes unbearably slow at about 15 frames per second on lowest settings (BFBC2 for example)) and video editing (again, very bad lag. Our i3 laptop doesn't even lag). I have done virus scan after virus scan and am clean. Power management is set to highest performance. When ever I start doing anything, the processor picks up, and the fans sounds like a race car. It's depressing really .
    Specs: Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz, 6GB memory, ATI 5650HD
This laptop is less than a year old.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • Laptop super slow after restore

So I decided to start fresh and completely restore my laptop but now it's so slow I can't do anything. Takes 10 minutes to start up the 30 more after I press login to load up and even the opening up anything takes 5 or more or it just never happens. Please help it's an HP pavilion dv9000.

You did not mention the notebook model number.
Most of the cases it is due to the Hard Drive malfunctioning.
Restart the notebook and press F10 at startup. You will get the Blue and White BIOS screen.
using arrow keys, go to the Diagnostics/Tools menu and run the hard drive self test.
If you get the result as PASS, it shows that hard drive is fine.
In case if you get any error code or message, you need to replace the hard drive which will fix the performance issue.
Get back with the result and also mention the notebook model number in your reply.

  • Laptop extremely slow boot up & slow everything after faulty boot up! HELP!

Hello. I'm not sure if this is the right section of the forums but I sure hope it is because I extremely need help.
My laptop was working completely fine a week ago! But then, all of a sudden, I turned it on and it went to a black screen with a bunch of numbers and letters. It was asking me to put in the start up CD(?). I had no idea what to do and didn't have the 'start up CD'(whatever that may be..) with me, so I pressed the power button. It turned off and turned back on.
But instead of working normally, it took about ten minutes to start up with about five minutes of that being a black screen with a mouse after putting in my user password. And now every program I have takes forever to open and just everything is extremely slow.
Please help. I really want my old, functional laptop back.

Your best bet is probably contacting Toshiba Tech Support:  (800) 457-7777
The free version of Malwarebytes is just an AV scanner. Sometimes I use it as a second opinion AV scanner. I install it, run it then uninstall it when it's finished. It's advisable to have a reatime AV program. I use Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free, works well, and doesn't slow the system. You can get it HERE free.

Backup your files. Create recovery DVD's. Use good quality DVD-R disks. You'll need them to install the software if you have to replace the HD. If you don't make them and the HD fails you'll have to purchase them from Toshiba. They cost about $30.

  • My HP dv6 1030us laptop becomes slow when removed from AC power

    Hi,
My HP DV6 laptop has windows 7 operating system and it behaves pretty weirdly .
It becomes really slow when removed from AC Power and have to restart my system to bring it to normal speed don't know why its behaving like that and help to resolve the problem would be greatly appreciated and also my system gets overheated a lot and I have to use a cooling pad always to keep it cool and running properly along with AC power
I would greatly appreciate any advice in resolving these issues.
    Thanks in advance.

for how long have you had this laptop... If you had it for longer than a year you may be dealing with a dust bunny (acumulation of dust in the vent that's right beside the fan). Normally when that vent is clogged you get the type of overhetaing you may be experiencing, so i recomend you to open it up and give it a nice clean as soon as you can. As for your computer slowing down without the ac adapter.
Do you know under what power option are you running ur computer?

  • HP Pavilion Laptop too slow

Hi! The model of my laptop is HP Pavilion 14-N202AX, with and AMD A 10-5745 processor. The unit also comes with an AMD Radeon HD 8610G + HD 8670M Dual graphics card. I thought the unit would function fast and smooth. I am encountering several problems that involve frequent program crashing, incorrect time stamps, slow boot-up of IDEs, and total screen hanging. What can I do to address the said problems? A response would greatly be appreciated. Thank you!

If it is a pretty new laptop still under warranty I would call HP Warranty Support which we are not. Likely they will ask you to return it to factory specs. The kind of problems you are describing are very hard to troubleshoot by exchanging messages in a Forum.
