Laptop keyboard stopped working suddenly

my laptop keyboard has stopped workin suddenly... i was entaered pasword and as the desktop opened the keyboard working stopped, my notebook is Pavillion-g6 2136tx and i've installed windows 8 os. please help me as soon as possible......

Hi,
Try the following.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to see if this will launch the Start-up Menu - if it does, select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Regards,
DP-K

  • [SOLVED] Laptop keyboard stopped working. Not even in BIOs or LiveCd..

    Solution posted below, in #3
    ===================================
    ORIGINAL POST
    ===================================
Ok, so, my laptop seems fried in the sense that I cannot type with the keyboard no matter what media I use. I've tried LiveCDs, LiveUSB images, my regular internal HDD..   nothing seems to work.
History of Issue:  I did a fresh install and immediately installed the kernel26-bfs kernel image. All went well. I tested a few things and did another fresh install (just because I like having a clean slate when experimenting) and installed the kernel26-bfs kernel image again. All seemed fine. Rebooted, shutdown and power upped a few times. Still good, so I shut down the laptop for the day and went to bed. (changed NO config files) Next morning I woke up and turned on the computer, which took a lot longer than usual. I found that when prompted at Lilo boot screen I couldn't type "bfs" (my kernel image named) but it ended up booting it anyway (after 50 seconds) since it was my default image. During the startup sequence it freaks out and kernel panics, trying to look for "device 802", whatever the heck that is. I don't know where it got that from since I had rebooted, etc, the previous day where it looked for "device /dev/sda2".  So it shows a bunch of "kernel panic" lines and comes to a halt.
Here's what it says when it boots, where the errors come in:
Waiting 10 seconds for device 802..
Root device '802' doesn't exist. Attempting to create it
    /bin/mknod /dev/root b 8 2
:: Initramfs Completed - control passing to kinit
    IP-Config: no device to configure
Waiting 0 s before mounting root device...
kinit: Unable to mount root fs on device dev(8,2)
    kinit: init not found!
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
Pid: 1, comm: kinit Not tainted 2.6.30-ARCH #1
    Call Trace:
    [<ffffffff8054d401>] ? panic+0x9a/0x154

    [<ffffffff80253df2>] ? sys_exit+0x22/0x30
    [<ffffffff8020c442>] ? system_call_fastpath+0x16/0x1b
That's what the kernel says, anyway. This could be the issue for my HARDWARE? Even without trying to boot Arch, I'm still unable to type. So,....
Anyway, I manually had to power down my laptop and I put in a LiveCD (Knoppix), it still wouldn't let me type with my keyboard, so I had to manually power down again. I tried the Arch LiveUSB image. Still nothing. I tried everything I could think of. I can't even hit the F9, F10, etc, keys during laptop start to enter my BIOS. I noticed a weird delay that I never had before. Usually when I start my laptop it would show the Hewlett-Packard BIOS Help screen immediately, but during that first morning when things went awry, it delays about 10-15 whole seconds before showing the HP screen.
SO, my question is...  does it seem like my laptop had a hardware failure? Or do you think my MBR was seriously 'harmed' somehow? I can't access any log files seeing as I can't TYPE anything on that laptop. So, I'm kind of screwed when it comes to providing detail. I've had this laptop about 8 months, new w/o box, or so they say..   I may end up getting a new laptop if I can't fix this.

Ok, I guess it was a BIOS and/or motherboard related issue. How I solved this (for future readers of this issue) is by taking out the battery-pack and leaving it out for about 5 minutes, then, right before I put the battery-pack back in, I hold the Power button on my laptop (without the battery in it) for about 30 seconds, then I put the battery-pack into my laptop again and Power it on. The laptop boots quickly and I'm able to use keyboard again to enter BIOs and/or enter my Arch partition using LiLo. This solution was a way of resetting the motherboard.
I'm marking this solved as this solution solved my situation. May not be for everyone. Thanks for your help MadTux. Topic can be closed if needed.

  • Half of keyboard stopped working.

Half of my Compaq V6000T laptop keyboard stopped working this morning- the right half. A USB keyboard works without issue. Will replacing the keyboard be sufficient or is there an underlying issue here?
    Many thanks!

Follow this tutorial until you see that you remove the keyboard.  http://www.insidemylaptop.com/disassemble-compaq-presario-v6000-laptop/  Make sure to keep track of all screws and parts, and be careful not to shock your laptop with static electricity!  When the keyboard is removed check to see that the wire that plugs in is seated properly; you may want to clean it off a bit or unplug it and plug back in.

  • I own a HP Pavilion dv6915nr, it stopped working suddenly.

    Hello,
    HP Pavilion dv6915nr.
    Windows Vista home premium 32-bit.
I own a HP Pavilion dv6915nr, it stopped working suddenly last night. It was working perfectly, I was watching a video on HULU and I stepped away for 2 or 3 minutes, when I came back the screen was off. The laptop seemed to be on sleep, but when I tried to use it again it didn't do anything. When I try to turn it on the keyboard lights turn on for about 2 seconds, then it goes completely off and there is a faint cracking sound on the speaker bar.
I already tried taking the batteries off and using the AC/DC adapter only, it did not work. When I plug-in the AC/DC adapter the light around the power connector turns on.
Hope someone could help me. Thanks.

Try a hard reset, works sometimes.Disconnect all external devices first.
    1-remove power cord and battery
2-press power button for 30 seconds
3-reinstall only power cord for first startup.
    4-power on

    Welcome to the forums.
Have you tried uninstalling xf86-input-keyboard? If you want evdev to handle it, that is.
Does the keyboard work when you decrypt the encryption device (or maybe you use a keyfile)?
Does it work if you boot to the command line?
Is the keyboard hook included in the initramfs? (Though I don't think this should matter for later.)
first place, tnx for the answer and sorry cause it took too long for me to answer back.
I uninstalled xf86-input-keyboard. now i get an error at boot time but it passes to arch so no big deal.
About encryption device I have no idea cause i never chose to encrypt anything.
About working at command line, answer is no. It is not working in my bash and also at tty1.
about keyboard hook, Answer is yes, it is included.
I'm really enjoying my systems speed with arch but this problem is really killing me. Now i'm using my laptop like a PC no movement allowed cause I must take a keyboard with me.
and really, an active forum and just one answer to my question!

  • The escape key in my wireless keyboard stopped working

Dear list members, suddenly, the ESC key in my wireless keyboard stopped working. As it looks normal and all other keys are working properly, might it be a configuration problem? Could you please help me? I'm working on an iMac 27 late 2012 running OSX 10.10.2. Thank you.

Please reset the SMC, this may take 2-3 attempts and post back with the results.

  • My keyboard stop working

I own lenovo g505 laptop and my keyboard stop working again the first time I fix it by restarting my laptop but now it has start doing it again and restarting/shutdown not helping any fix? and no I did not spill any liquids on it.

That could be a loose ribbon cable or hardware fault, I assume your laptop is still under warranty, If so you should return your laptop to the place of purchase for replacement or repair.
Edit: Before returning, Backup all your data to external drive using onekey recovery, Power off your laptop, Press onekey recovery (Small button to the right of power button), This will list some options scroll down to recovery & tap return key. This will re-install windows on your laptop, Once installed open wordpad or something smililar & test your keyboard. If your keyboard works after the fresh install restore your backed up files using onekey restore.
    Hope that helps

  • After updates, wireless keyboard stopped working.

    HI...
All was going along swimmingly, setting up my new iMac... I did some updates and then for some strange reason my wireless keyboard stopped working? I know it’s not the keyboard because delete works, my widgets work and some other keys work - and - the whole keyboard was working from start up (at first)...
But I just can’t use the Alfa keys all of a sudden - very unusual, no?
    What happened?
Any opinions, suggestions and comments are greatly welcomed
    Thank you in advance....

For those who it may concern...
I called up support and I had to delete two files from the Systems Library called “com.apple...systempreferences.plist” and “com.apple.universalaccess.plist”.....
I hope you never need this information but - it worked for me....

  • Integrated microphone stopped working suddenly on my HP i-7 DV6! I tried everything!

Hi guys! Thanks to anyone seeing this. My laptop's integrated microphone stopped working suddenly. I have daily skype meetings and it worked perfectly fine but today it suddenly didn't work. I didn't make any significant changes before that.
I tried uninstalling and installing the drivers from the website but when I uninstalled, the new drivers said that a device is missing. I cannot paste the error message exactly how is written for you because it is in greek. but the translation is that a device part is missing or something.
after that I've done a system restore went back 4 days and I have now my drivers back but the microphone still isn't working.
I figured out that if i plug my apple headphones i can hear audio but it doesnt detect my recording. (i dont know if it's supposed to anyway!
Thanks in advance to anyone that might have a solution!

Thank you for this. You are amazing for trying to help me. I kept on not being able to find the solution for 2 days and no voice application worked until yesterday evening. I logged into an online shop and bought a headset costing £10. As long as I entered my details and pressed PAY, my girlfriend called me on skype and voila, she could hear me. I think there might be something wrong with the insides of my laptop! Might be a significant amount of dust and dirt.
Thank you very much again. If this happens again I will read this post again carefully and get back to you.

I have the same bluetooth controller (0cf3:3005, Atheros AR3011) on my laptop (ASUS K53SV) and have the exact same problem. Bluetooth works for a while until tx errors start showing up:
    [24952.326871] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0c1a tx timeout
    [24954.332842] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0c52 tx timeout

    [25075.805968] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0408 tx timeout
Resetting the bluetooth device works sometimes but not always. There is always a chance that the device will just become unresponsive to any kinds of commands:
    # hciconfig hci0 reset
Can't init device hci0: Connection timed out (110)
I've tried various methods (block/unblock them with rfkill, `rmmod btusb` & `modprobe btusb`, etc) but none works after the device is "dead". The only way to recover seems to be powering off the laptop (simply rebooting doesn't fix the problem).

    Hi Jimmy_N,
Thank you for considering Sony Community!
We're sorry to hear this issue. Please follow the troubleshooting steps here to isolate the issue:
Power cycle - Remove the battery and all peripherals -> press and hold the power button for 5 seconds OR, if the battery is not removable, remove all peripherals-> look for a battery off button on the bottom of the laptop -> push the button for 5 seconds
Reinstall driver - Go to Device manager -> Human Interface Devices -> right click and select Uninstall (DO NOT DELETE). Restart the computer. The driver will be reinstalled.
Reset BIOS - While the unit is restarting, tap the F2 key repeatedly. Once in BIOS go to Exit tab -> Get Default Values -> Save the changes and Exit.
Update drivers from Sony's support website or from where you purchased the laptop.
Your Vaio SVF14N16SGS is not a U.S. model. We do not have the drivers and software that support your computer. For further assistance regarding your concern, please contact the Sony offices/Sony representative offices nearest to your place of residence in Asia Pacific region http://www.sony-asia.com/countryselector.html?hpid=countryselector:AsiaPacific. Due to proximity, they are in a better position to respond to your questions or concerns.
    Hope these help.

  • Helix keyboard stops working when dock battery reaches 3%

My other post has more details but the title says it all. My Helix keyboard stops working when dock battery reaches 3% even though the tablet battery has a charge. This seems to happen every time. A hard reset of the dock gets the keyboard working again. Any ideas on how to fix this?

This is my daughter's college computer so I have not used it. I just get the panic call when it locks up.
Is there any way to get a warning when the battery is low? I assume that it has a light on the base but I can see how she could miss it when focused on what she is doing. I am not sure it comes on since the tablet battery still has capacity. I find it odd that this happens when the tablet battery still has a decent amount of charge. Effectively it eliminates a fair amount of the battery capacity available for the computer.
I have other electronics that force you to shut done at low battery levels. I am surprise that a high end laptop performs this way.

  • Mouse and keyboard stop working with Mavericks

This has happened twice now since installing Mavericks.
I'll be working along, and then all of a sudden, I am not able to click with my mouse and my keyboard stops working. I AM able to move the cursor around on the screen. But, I am not able to click on anything and I can't use the keyboard to force quit the finder. The only way to get unstuck is to press the power button on the front of the Mac to shut it down and then restart.
I am using a wired Apple Keyboard and a wireless Apple Magic Mouse. My Mac is a MacPro 2 x 2.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac.
Like I said. this has never happened before. But it's happened twice since installing Mavericks.

Everytime I restart my computer, especially for updating maverick, my keyboard and attached mouse (both apple for an Imac) stop working. When I plug in an other keyboard, I can get into my Imac again. Would this SMC apply to this problem as well?
    What should I do?
    thanks, hb

  • U530 Touch Keyboard stops working after a period of time

I just got a new Ideapad U530 touchscreen laptop yesterday.  After a few minutes the keyboard stops working.  I uninstalled a few of the Lenovo multimedia programs I don't need.  Is there a bios update or a driver I should update after purchase?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The reset didn't work partially.  I reinstalled the Comodo firewall and the keyboard stopped working again.  I uninstalled it and installed the free Zonealarm.

  • TS3048 Number pad on extended keyboard stopped working after updating to OSX 10.9.1. Testing keyboard on old system still works perfectly.

Expanded keyboard stopped working correctly after updating my system from OSX 10.8.6 to OSX 10.9.1 and now 10.9.2. The keypad numbers do not work although the numbers along the top of the keyboard work fine. Moving the keyboard back to computer still using 10.8.6 and it works fine.

See if zapping the PRAM works.  Check out KB Article:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
