Laptop keys malfunctioning

I recently (late Jan) received my new g6z-2200 and I'm having a bit of a reoccurring problem...
On numerous ocassions (several times a day) while I'm tying a document, I will want to type in italics, bold, or underline and I will hold ctrl and either i, b, or u.  The result is that my cursor will jump up several lines, or portions of text will become highlighted and then by deleted (as a result of my typing), or sometimes both, or there will be other similar tricks performed by my computer.
What can I do to get this to stop...as I'm sure you can imagine this is pretty annoying.
Thanks

  • Desktop vs laptop key commands.

I just recently picked up a 15" i5 MBP which is the first laptop I've ever used for audio.
Key commands for a full key board with numeric pad are so ingrained in my mind that I'm hesitant to "learn" variations for the laptop. Believe me, I'm not complaining about having to excute for few extra mouse pad clicks.
How are other folks juggling desktop vs laptop key strokes?
I suppose I could get a full size wireless keyboard (as the MBP USB ports are already spoken for).
    Input appreciated.
    Cheers.

I played around with the key board preferences (US with numeric pad vs just plain US)
I once created a list of the differences between those two presets. Here it is. I realize it's tough to read on this web page, but that's because this forum won't let me use html table tags. But if you paste the text into a spreadsheet or word processor, it will instantly format as a table (because tabs are embedded) and be easily readable.
The first column is the US with numeric keypad, and the second column is the plain US. Any commands not on this list are the same in both presets.
Anyone confused by any of those symbols can find an illustrated guide here or here.

  • Option key malfunction

    hi
I've a weird problem in my macbook pro. Whenever I start it, it gives startup boot drive option. After startup my keyboard prints symbols instead of characters. It seems as if my opion key is permanently pressed(ON). I somehow managed to use keyboard viewer to work normally(by enabling sticky keys option) but my hard keyboard is still printing symbols. This problem goes away on its own if i do not use my laptop for 2-3 days or more and comes back after using it for few hours. I am still not sure whether it is some s/w issue or h/w. Whatever it may be, can anyone suggest how can i disable symbols to come up with option button. Or how can i disable or program to ignore the option key's continuous press(active ON). Nothing improves if i disable "Option" as modifier key under keyboard section. External USB windows keyboard works fine on this laptop. For all your advice & suggestions, thanks in advance!

There is a bubble membrane under the keys, it has apparently got stuck down, the only solution is to have the keyboard replaced by Apple.
If your under warranty/AppleCare, then make a appointment, if not have them quote you a price.
There are online Mac repair that also can replace it for lesser cost if Apple quotes you too high of a price or can't fix it as they don't make the parts anymore.
It's preferred to have a touch clicky clack type keyboard that speed typists use, it's stands up better to wear and provides a audio feedback.

I'm using a old PC one with my MBP because I know laptop keyboards are basically crap, designed to wear out in a few years, should be used only in emergency situations actually.

  • Laptop key not working

I have a pavillion dv5 laptop and randomly a key stopped working on my keyboard the letter E specfically I have I used the on screen keyboard the e works there I use a remote app on my andorid and ipad the E works there as well Ive also went into the device manager and uninstalled the keyboard and let windows reinstall it and that didnt fix the problem either I havent dropped it recently or spilled anything on it so I was wondering if anyone had any advice about what the problem could be

Maybe you have a particle of something stuck underneath the key. Try blowing it out with an air canister.

  • Laptop Key replacement

    Laptop: pavilion dv6 7020us
The back smaller hinge of my tab key broke. can someone direct me to the correct part number?

    Hi:
HP does not sell individual keys.
This vendor should probably have what you need and they also have guides for how to reattach the key.

  • Replacement Laptop Keys

A couple of months ago I stupidly broke a few keys on the keyboard of my S205. I'm finding it really difficult to identify exactly what model that i have and where to find replacement keys. I tried buying some from http://www.replacementlaptopkeys.com/ but they do not fit my keyboard. There are 5 different versions of the s205 on that site and I ordered the ones for the 1038 because that is the model number on the back of my laptop, Can somebody please help me identify what model I have and where to buy replacement keys.

    Anyone?

  • Odd caps key malfunction

All of a sudden the left hand 'caps' key on my MacBook refuses to convert the top qwerty line of my keyboard in to caps, apart from the last letter P! It is fine on the others two lines. The right hand one works fine as does the caps lock. So using the left key, which is the most convenient, I get:
    qwertyuioP
Do you think this is a problem with my laptop or have I pressed a wrong key somewhere?

Do check your preferences. Can you press shift and then the keys?

  • New laptop keys loosing texture

I bought a brand new Pavilion 15-P214NP about a month ago and I noticed a huge quality issue: some of the keys (that has that plastic texture) are becoming shinny and smooth at some places due to the use. This would be acceptable in a laptop with a few years, but not on a new one. The keys are not even being used a lot, the space bar is the one showing the biggest texture loss spot, as well as a few letter keys. Is this usual on HP computers?

There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

  • DM4 laptop keys fading away

I have a DM4 that is only a few months old and now has ten keys with the key text completely faded off. I own a medium size company and have purchased several hundred thousand dollars worth of HP computer and printer equipment over the last 15 years including probably 50-60 HP laptops. Reading all the posts about this same problem and the poor customer service response from HP to owners of these units is really shocking and disappointing. I don't have time as an executive to track down some customer service rep (probably in India) to get a non-response. I will simply vote with my checkbook and stop all HP equipment purchases. This is amazingly shortsighted of HP to destroy customer goodwill over such poor quality and particularly IT customers that make up a large percentage of annual sales.

3 things to try in increasing order of difficulty...1. remove the keyboard as a device from device manager (uninstall) and let windows reinstall the keyboard driver on reboot; then, 2. reattach the keyboard ribbon cable; then, 3. install a new keyboard.
If we knew the exact model (always a good thing to put in a help forum post) we could link you right to the manual and I can find you a keyboard for sale cheap on UK eBay. On most HP laptops keyboard replacement is very easy.

  • Laptop key is extremely sensitive

    Hello,
Starting yesterday, my k key on my laptop's keyboard became very sensitive. Instead of needing to push down the key all the way (enough for me to feel the button being pressed on the motherboard), putting even a tiny amount of pressure on it causes an input. As k is one of the resting keys, even if I do not intend to type it it can accidentially show up on screen.
No other key has had this problem in the 4.5 years I've had this laptop. The exact model I'm using is: HP Pavilion dv6t-1100 CTO Entertainment Notebook.
Please advise on how to solve this issue. I'm comfortable taking the laptop apart to clean underneath the keyboard if that is the issue. However, the last time I tried to clean out the interior I was not able to fully separate the bottom and top sections of the base despite all of the screws being out; it felt like something was going to break if I pulled too much.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Satellite L360D - Some keyboard keys malfunctions

Toshiba laptop Satellite L360D. Spacebar does not function & right hand shift tab
    Any views?

    Hi
    Yes, Ive got an idea
In my opinion the internal keyboard needs to be replaced.
There is no other solution for that since single buttons are not replaceable.
In the meantime you can use an external USB keyboard. It should work properly and could be a good option until the internal keyboard has been replaced.

  • Function keys malfunctioning and iTunes keeps opening

My MacBook has Lion on it and has developed the following issues:
The volume up/down and screen brightness up/down keys seem to be having an identitiy crisis and do both things at the same time i.e. when I increase the volume the screen brightness goes down and volume goes up together etc
iTunes keeps randomly opening and starts playing my music when I haven't touched anything.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can do to correct this?
    Thanks

check system preferences, go to accounts, log in items, see if there is an iTunes stuff there, if there is higlight it and click the - button.
for the the sleep part you can go to system preferences, energy saver, make sure wake for network is un clicked.
turn off bluetooth when not in use, the persson who lives next to has either her BT headset or mouse that wakes mine, have our stuff apart by a thin wall 2ft

  • Is there a way to program a laptop key as a "back" button (so I can keep my cursor on a website page)?

Is there a way to program a key as a "Back" button in Firefox so I can keep my cursor on the page?

    Every time Firefox opened

Easiest would be to save a backup copy of the sessionstore.js file that stores the currently open tabs and windows and recently closed tabs and windows.
You need to use this startup setting:
*Tools > Options > General > Startup: When Firefox Starts: Show my windows and tabs from last time
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder

  • Keys malfunctioning on BB 8520

The keys on my phone is not working properly. When I press z,c,n, m and space it types nm.

It sounds like what I have seen multiple times on a device with moisture damage.
Even sitting on a bathroom counter during a hot steamy shower or bath can cause keyboard and trackball problems UNTIL properly dried out. It really is more common than you think.
    1. Remove the battery immediately!! Do not attempt to turn on your BlackBerry.
    2. Let the device dry in a warm, dry place for 4 to 5 days* (see below)
    3. DO NOT "check it each day" by placing the battery in. Leave it be to dry completely. This takes time. Replacing the battery to check it can only damage it more (moisture + electrical current = disaster).
    4. If the device is warm after the drying period, allow it to cool to room temperature before placing the battery back in.
Suggestions on drying your BlackBerry in a warm place (open, with the battery out):
*Place the BB in a container of dry UNcooked rice, and then you might also place it in any of the locations mentioned below.
*On top of any dry heat emitting electronic component: TV cabinet or CRT, LCD, cable TV/Satellite converter box or plasma monitor
*On the dashboard of your car on a sunny day
