Laptop locks up for 20 seconds each 2 to 3 minutes

During the past 2 days I installed about 20+ updates for Windows 8.1 and Office 2007 and also started using One Drive.  Ever since then my computer locks up for 10 to 30 seconds, mainly for internet related tasks, and then resumes for a few more
minutes before repeating the lock up.  Do I need to uninstall all 20+ updates or has one or a few been reported to have caused these problems?

Hi,
It's a little confused about "Ever since then my computer locks up for 10 to 30 seconds, mainly for internet related tasks"?
Did you give us a screenshot? Did you mean it freeze when browsing the Internet Explorer?
If yes, try this:
Windows 8.1, Windows 8 or Windows 7 hangs or freezes("My computer hangs or freezes when browsing in Internet Explorer" section)

    Hi Apple user 789,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
    The following article will provide some troubleshooting steps for your iPhone.
    iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
    If that does not resolve the issue, refer to page 146 in the iPhone User Guide to Reset All Settings:
    iPhone User Guide for iOS 7
    manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
    The final troubleshooting step would be to restore your device:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
    Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition. Before restoring:
    Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes.
    Back up your device.
    Transfer and sync content to your computer.
    I hope this information helps ....
    Happy Holidays!

  • I have reset my iphone 5c and now has apple logo on the screen. I have tried holding home and lock buttons for 10 seconds, but to no avail. How do i sort this please ?

    I have reset my iphone 5c and now it has the apple logo on the screen.  Nothing is happening, apart from the screen going off for a few seconds, only to go back to black screen and white apple log.  I have tried holding home and lock buttons for 10 seconds, but to no avail.  I did a reset on settings as the IOS 8 was just slowing down my phone horrendously.   How do i sort this please ?

    Hi MartinH78,
    If your iPhone isn't responding or won't start up past the Apple logo, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • My daughter cannot remember her passcode for her iPhone 5. She needs a phone number that is stored in the phone and cannot remember her passcode. we have tried many groups of numbers and now we are locked out for an hour each time we put in the wrong pass

    My daughter is out of the country until May. She did not take her iPhone 5 with her. Now she needs a phone number that is stored
    in the memory and cannot remember her passcode. I have tried all of the possibities that she e-mailed , but none of them work
    and now I am locked out for an hour each time I enter an invalid passcode. Help? How can I get around this to access the phone?

  • How can I set the gain on a SCXI-1102 module without having my computer lock-up for 3 seconds?

    Forgive my insolence, but did it never occur to anyone that spinning in a hard loop while polling a status register to set a gain for 3 seconds isnt a great idea?
    I have a number of SCXI-1102 modules to set the gains on, and it takes several seconds for each. Reading the documentation on the subject indicates that the SCXI_Set_Gain call polls a status register waiting for the gain to settle before returning and it doesnt even yield while doing so.
    Are there any other ways I can set the gain? Is there a way that doesn't poll the register that returns in a reasonable amount of time?
    AFAICT, there's no good reason to only allow one module to be s
    etting its gain at a time. An asynchronous call it really needed - one that makes it the API programmer's responsibility to check the status of the register, or one that spawns a thread and sleeps between polls, and signals an event or invokes a callback or some-such-thing. Or you could even just sleep for three seconds after setting all the gains, this way the delay would be 3 seconds total not 3 seconds for each gain set.

    This NI-DAQ function call directly accesses the nidaq32.dll. While the nidaq32.dll is multithread safe, it is not a multithreaded DLL. This is also described in the KnowledgeBase entry 1V9DSHDM: "Can NI-DAQ Handle Different Operations at the Same Time? Is It a Multi-threaded DLL?"
    You are correct that the SCXI_Set_Gain function is not asynchronous. Thus, you do have to wait till that function returns before calling the next one. LabVIEW has found a way around this. So, you can actually use the LabVIEW functions to set the gain on these modules without having to wait as you do with SCXI_Set_Gain.

  • My daughter set the lock code for my second or first generation ipod and i dont know what numbers she pressed. The ipod was loaded on a pc in Texas, and i'm currently in Georgia. I have a laptop, but I dont want to wipe out all my music. HELP!!!

      My daughter has interrupted business as usual because she decided to change the passcode on my ipod. This is a first or second generation nano maybe, and it was loaded on a pc in Texas. I dont want to lose the songs that my mom loaded for me because they're irretreivable. Could someone tell me the process to unlock my ipod from my laptop, but reserve my exsisting music?

    Try connecting the iPod to the computer your normally sync it with.  Then properly eject it.  Upon doing so, you may discover that your iPod is unlocked.  If it is, make sure to disable the Screen Lock or change the code to something you can remember.
    Otherwise, if that doesn't work, your only option at that point is to restore the iPod via iTunes.  And yes this will involve wiping all content and settings from the iPod.  Afraid there is no other way.

  • Click on Favorites, Mouse Jumps Around, IE Locks Up for 30 Seconds

    Hello all,
    I am having a strange problem with Internet Explorer.  I have all of the latest MS patches for everything.  When I open Internet Explorer (I have version 11), and click on my favorites icon (the star icon in the top right), IE locks up on me for
    about 30 seconds.  It eventually comes back after that time and everything is normal, I have access to all of my favorites.  However, if I close IE and reopen it, the same thing happens again.  If I leave it open, the issue does not seem to
    happen in the same instance of IE.  I have tried clearing all of my temporary files with no change.  I did a packet capture and noticed that when I click on my favorites icon, my PC ARP's for an IP address that no longer exists on my network
    (my private LAN) - it ARP's about 15-20 times and stops exactly when IE returns to normal.  So the two events sync up.  I did find some entries for this particular IP address under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU"
    and I have deleted them and rebooted.  I cannot find any reference to this IP anywhere else in the registry.  This IP address used to be a NAS drive that I had - accessed via backslash-backslash-sharename - but I decommissioned it.  I'm out
    of ideas here - anybody ever run into this or have any suggestions?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Robert, thanks for the reply.
    I did a bit more messing around with running traces with netsh.  I did manage to drill down to find the actual ARP's that I was seeing, but I could not map that back using process monitor.  I just don't know enough about using it.
    However, I did some tinkering and found something strange.  I am not smart enough to put it all together, maybe somebody can help me.  I started removing and adding back my individual ".url" favorites files one by one from/to their location
    under my "c:\users\username\favorites" folder and narrowed it down to a single favorite.  Here was the original favorite file contents:
    [DEFAULT]
    BASEURL=http://www.wireless.att.com/home/
    [InternetShortcut]
    URL=http://www.att.com/
    IDList=
    IconFile=http://www.att.com/favicon.ico
    IconIndex=1
    HotKey=0
    [{...cut...}]
    Prop3=19,2
    If I open IE from a fresh reboot and click my favorites icon, the issue occurred.  The next time it happened again was exactly 60 seconds after I initially opened IE the first time.  I could open and close it as many times as I could within that
    60 seconds and not have the issue occur again.  After the 60 seconds were up, if I opened IE again and clicked my favorites, the issue occurred again.  That sounds pretty strange, I know.
    In any case, I did some more messing around with the file contents and found that if I change the "IconIndex" to "0" (zero), the problem went away.  You can directly hit that IconFile and it will display the AT&T icon.
    If I delete and re-create the shortcut by going directly to AT&T's website and adding to favorites, it would recreate the file again the same way with the IconIndex set to 1.  If I change it to zero, the problem goes away.
    None of this makes any sense to me.  But I have worked around the issue by changing that IconIndex to zero.

  • All applications unresponsive for 30 seconds, happens regularly, every few minutes

    I have a macbook pro I bought in October 2010.  Every day I take it to and from work, with virtually identical usage/applications open.
    Yesterday when I got home and opened the lid, the computer stalled out.  I could move the mouse around, but no applications would respond.  Even when I scrolled over the dock, no magnification animation.  When I came back to the computer a few minutes later, it appeared to have responded to a bunch of my previous clicks, but was again unresponsive.
    I decided to try to reboot, but it just sat on the grey screen with the spinning wheel for ten minutes.  I tried reseting the pram, didn't help.  I tried booting from the mac OSX disk, but it would just sit on the gray screen.
    Much later in the evening, I decided to try turning it on again.  I came back about 30 minutes later and it was sitting at the login screen working properly, no sign at all of the problem!
    This morning, I got back into work, opened the lid, and the same problem.  Only this time, it's unresponsive for about 30 seconds or so, and then works fine for a few minutes, and then goes back to being unresponsive.  AD NAUSEUM.
    Since the OSX disk was still in the drive and it was on, I decided to take the opportunity during one of the times it was working properly to try to reinstall OSX.  That was about 45 mins ago.  It is currently sitting on the grey screen with the apple logo (no spinning wheel), and has been for about 30 mins now.
    It might be worth saying that there is a noise pattern while it is unresponsive.  The sound is not alarming or unnatural, but there is a sort of hardware stutter/seeking sound that lasts about 1 second and repeats every 5 seconds or so, for the duration of the time it is unresponsive.  It doesn't occur otherwise.  Also, that sound does not currently exist while it is sitting on the grey screen.
    Please help!

  • Computer Hangs for 30 Seconds at a time. Please Help!!

    My Macbook Pro has started locking up for 30 seconds at a time on fairly regular intervals (Every 2 - 10 min). When the lockup happens, it appears to affect anything that wants to use the hard drive. For instance, my browser will hang (i.e. do the beachball) but skype will work fine. During the hang, if I bring up any other application, it will hang if it tries to access the HD. I am not totally sure its the HD, but this is what I suspect as other background processes can continue during the lockup. It's important to note, that during these times, it is NOT using the CPU or the hard drive. It just sits there doing nothing. I do not hear the hard drive access going crazy. I also have 4GB of ram and it happens when almost nothing is open so it is not a performance problem.
    Here is what I have already tried
    - Disabling the SMS (sudden motion sensor)
    - Repairing the disk permissions
    - Verifying and repairing the disk
    - Using disk warrior boot disk to repair the disk
    - Downgrading from the 1.7 to the 1.6 EFI Firmware
    Please help. I'm out of ideas.
    Thanks,
    David

    I'm in the same boat, and I can't just replace my HDD..... I'm going to try and use my copy of TechTools plus to see if it spots the issue...
    Recently I have had that 5-10 second slowdown. I thought it was one of my externals because at the time of the slowdown, I'd hear teh external start to spin. It was a 1TB drive, and I passed it off as nothing because I thought thats what 1TB USB drive need to error check.
    Then, all of a sudden after taking my computer out of sleep mode (with no externals connected) my computer came to a standstill... I reinstalled OSx 10.6 and it was fine.
    Now I am noticing a 10 second halt at regular intervals as the OP mentioned. In my console it has this:
    12/31/10 4:53:28 PM kernel commaxtor_IOPowSec00_105-(B41VR3WH) handling stop request
    12/31/10 4:53:28 PM kernel commaxtor_IOPowSec00_105-(B41VR3WH) IssueModeSelectTimer: shortTime = 1
    12/31/10 4:53:28 PM kernel commaxtor_IOPowSec00_105-(B41VR3WH)::SetModeSelectTimer: using shortime
    12/31/10 4:53:28 PM kernel commaxtor_IOPowSec00_105-(B41VR3WH) IssueModeSelectTimer: complete
    12/31/10 4:53:28 PM kernel commaxtor_IOPowSec00_105-(B41VR3WH): IssueStopUnderDeviceControlCommand
    12/31/10 4:53:57 PM kernel disk0s2: I/O error.
    12/31/10 4:53:57 PM kernel
    12/31/10 4:53:57 PM kernel
    12/31/10 4:53:57 PM kernel hfs_clonefile: cluster_read failed - 5
    Looking at this, I am now assuming that the problem lies with my external maxtor drive...
    LUCKILY all of my info on my macbook is on another HD for time machine, so if my internal HD kicks the bucket, I'm safe. It's the maxtor one I'm worried about since it has my whole video production portfolio on it, lol.

  • Satego X200 hangs about for one second if the fan changes the speed

    Hello people,
    my laptop hangs about for one second if the fan changes his speed. This does not happen so often and only since a short time.
    Excuses me for my English.
    Thank you in advance

    First thank you for your responses.
    Yes, notebook hangs for 1-3 seconds. I notice this because the mouse pointer does not move in this time. And if I hear music, only monotonous sound comes out. If the processor is busy, something like that does not happen. Only if he is idle. It is astonishing that notebook hangs if the fan goes on. I cannot ascertain, with the turning on which fan this passes.
    http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/504/p1050001wf6.jpg
    Is this CPU fan or graphics card fan?
    Yours sincerely
