Laptop not connecting to wi-fi

My Macbook has developed a fault in its ability to pick up wi-fi networks. It was fine for the first couple of years. Now, when I scan for networks, it often registers them only weakly (on the "bars" icon - menu bar) and sometimes not at all. It often times out joining networks because the signal is so weak.  I know the network exists and is "broadcasting" strongly enough because my iPad picks it up and joins it happily. Sometimes re-starting the computer solves this problem, but only temporarily, and this is unreliable. If I sit right next to the router, it is *mostly* OK, but this is hurting my back. Can anyone suggest what's wrong?

Does the iOS devices connect to other networks?
Does the iOS devices see the network?
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:                 
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Since both iPhone and iPod stopped connecting I suspect a problem with your network.

    We have a problem with a laptop. 
    It is installed in our Head office (The Netherlands), just like all other laptops by using an image.
    Tested and working on the domain.
    The user had to go to one of our branch offices (China) and when he connected there, the laptop just won't connect to the domain.
    When he plugged in the laptop, it keeps trying to connect it's directaccess.
    Other laptops (same image) immediately recognize the domain network, but this laptop just won't.
    I am able to ping everything on the local network (MPLS connection), from HQ to all Branch offices but not access them.
    I've tried changing the DNS settings, but without any result.
    Any suggestions?

    According to this tool's description, I think it should be helpful to check system current enviroment, such as network, certificates, etc. problem. Actually according to your description, I doubt it probably network enviroment of ISP problem, but we should

    I am sorry about the issues you are having with your wireless connection. Is your laptop seeing other wireless connections? If not, it may be an issue with the wireless adapter on your laptop.
    Otherwise, you may want to try to reset your gateway. To do so, you can press and hold the red reset button on the back of the gateway for 10 seconds.

  • Installing xMII on Laptop not connected with network

    I have installed xmii in my laptop and created some application which i sent permission to a user created by myself.
    When i try to unplug the laptop from the network and try to access xMII its directly going into the home page without asking login. I want a specfic user to be logged in and role it displays in the  xMII main page as Local Adminstrator not the Role which was there in xMII.

    look at the list of Trusted Servers in Security Services.  If you log in from any of these, you will automatically be logged in as admin.  It doesn't matter if you use the hostname or IP.  If you find your IP listed as one of the Trusted Servers, remove it, save, and open a new browser window and try logging in again.  You need to start a new browser session - not open another window in an existing session.
    If you need to have your machine listed as a trusted server and you don't want to be automatically logged in as admin, then you're out of luck.  I've tried using the loopback adapter to get around this; in Windows that won't work either because of the braindead way Microsoft implemented the loopback adapter.  Your only recourse is VMware or the like...

  • Error message "not connected to internet" when trying to sign in to BB id with Mac laptop

    I have a Mac laptop and was forced to remove the original BB Link OS when the Z10 launched.  I replaced the OS with the current one but now it doesn't allow me to use my Mac's computer name eg.  John Smith's Mac book. I can only use a single name.  I suspect that is why I'm not getting the itune's library to load.  Also, I can't sign into my BB id, I get a message that says I'm not connected to the internet.  I've taken the firewall off as I heard that was a solution with Windows but it didn't work.  Any ideas?

    i have the same problem. I have window 7 pc. I had to use internet to download link so i don't understand why it is not allowing me to use link or do set up. I uninstalled my previous bb desktop driver in hopes that would help. It didn't. I appreciate any help on this forum

  • My Deskjet 3050 J610 will not connect to my Virgin WiFi router for use with Apple Mac laptop.

    I live in the UK and have Broadband access via a Virgin connection and WiFi router. My Apple MacBook laptop connects to the WiFi with no difficulties. However I have an HP Deskjet 3050 J610 printer which will not connect to the router. When I try to connect, the blue light just keeps on flashing but a connection is not found. Consequently my MacBook cannot "see" the printer on the network. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Yes, and, I try to restore. I have the T-Mobile sim card in it just to clarify. It will not let me get passed that, it does not accept the t-mobile sim card. i tried restoring it using wifi, cellular, and i cant get i tunes. I am scared that if i take the tmobile sim card out and put the at&t one in just to complete the restoration process that the iphone will lock again and not read the tmobile sim card, then all my hard work has gone for nothing.     Hi, I HATE to ask for help with this, but I HAVE looked everywhere and Google searched different wordings and have not found anything similar nor a solution to my problem!                                                                                                                                                                                                                               My good old iPod 4th-gen charges just fine in any wall outlet, in any house, but when I connect it to my brand new ASUS laptop that has Windows-8 and 3.0 USB ports using the charging/data cable, the charging process just keeps "blinking" BOTH the iPod and the laptop and it will not connect to ITunes and I get "A Device is Detected" message that keeps popping up and going away over and over right above the Windows desktop toolbar.                                                               When I go to control panel and select "Devices" it does show the iPod, but for only a split second and than it disappears, but than it comes back again for a split second and than it disappears again and just keeps doing that over and over and over!                                                                                                                  I have tried resetting the iPod while it is plugged into the laptop by holding the power and menu buttons, that did no good.                                                             I also tried uninstalling iTunes and any other Apple stuff listed and reinstalling it all, that did NOT work!                                                                                          The iPod, the laptop and iTunes ARE all fully updated!                                                                                                                                                                I AM using a brand new charging/data cable that I just opened up an hour ago (I've learned to keep a few brand new ones around at all times since these piece of garbage rip-off cables hardly last a week, even when you baby them!). I also tried a few old cables, they all do the same thing!                                                       I would like to get this piece of junk to connect to my new laptop, even if only once, so that I can change/delete some songs and transfer a few dozen photos,since I haven't been able to do any of that stuff since my old laptop (that NEVER had any problems connecting) died way back in May! lol.                                                                                                                                                                                                 I hope somebody knows a fix or solution!     From your statements above, it sounds like you never tried to burn a CD for at least the first year that you owned the laptop, as it had a one year warranty on it. While you might have used it frequently to install software,  play DVDs, Blu-Ray disks, etc, that's unclear from your statements. Nonetheless, it might just be dirty-dusty. So, before deleting-uninstalling any software, and given they're cheap, try a CD-DVD Cleaner Disk first and see if that resolves your problems.

    It probably has to do with your security and/or browser configuration.
    When my laptop crashed last year and I had to get a new one, I dealt with the same thing. First, go to your control panel and select the security section. See if your firewalls are up or not. If they are, turn them off. If you have any software to speed up your browser, that can affect the connection as well. Go into that software and disble/turn it off. If this doesn't work, contact customer support. They have a few other tricks they had me try that worked, but I can't remember them now.

    try to restore in itunes bye putting in recovey mode turn the ipod off press the home button and plug in the ipod into the computer. an itunes shuld see it in recovery mode and click restore. and that should do the trick.
