Laptop + nvidia twinview = maximum performance level
I'm using 285.05.09 drivers. Whenever I connect my second monitor to my laptop nvidia PowerMizer scales the performance to maximum, which makes the laptop noisy, although I don't need it.
Has anyone else encountered this bug ?
Not a bug. Driving two displays requires higher bandwidth, and that can only be achieved by upping the performance level.

Nvidia performance level issues (PowerMizer)
Hello there.
I got recently a new laptop and thought, that would be a nice moment to switch from Ubuntu to Arch-Linux.
Everything works better than expected (after a few tweaks of course). Unfortunately this doesn't apply to my:
Nvidia Quadro FX 1800M (1024 MB DDR5, 72 CUDA Cores)
I have the latest proprietary drivers installed ( 260.19.21 / Linux-x86_64 ) and I can play games and 3D hardware acceleration works.
The graphic card supports 3 performance levels (found in nvidia settings -> PowerMizer: 0 [low] - 2 [high]).
However, the powermizer switches only between 0-1, the highest will never be used.
Even if I play warsow with 1920x1080 and other graphic intensive settings, I got ~60 Fps, the game lags a bit but powermizer stuck at level 1.
I tried a lot of different settings in modprobe.conf and xorg.conf.
For example:
Option "RegistryDwords" "PowerMizerEnable=0x0"
or
Option "RegistryDwords" "PowerMizerEnable=0x1; PerfLevelSrc=0x2222; PowerMizerDefault=0x3; PowerMizerDefaultAC=0x1"
Neither works as expected.
Has anybody a similar behavior?
Thanks for your help!Is there nobody having the same or at least having a clue how to solve that?
Can I do something or is this just a Nvidia driver bug? -
Nvidia Performance Level 3 - MSI GT780DX
Hiya all,
I'm running Arch on an MSI GT780DX, with an Nvidia 570M. At the moment I'm running Arch-CK 4.0.5-2-CK (but over the many many many months I've been dealing with this issue I've ran many kernels to no avail - stock kernels from the inception of v4, and all incarnations of liquorix) with the nvidia-ck 352.21-1 drivers.
For the life of me, I can't get this card to clock properly. I've enabled coolbits, added powermizer options in my xorg, all do absolutely nothing. The card stays at performance level two.
This is what my nvidia-settings looks like in the Powermizer tab.
http://i.imgur.com/QHtgzi3.png
In Windows, MSI provided an overclocking utility which when I hit P1 above my keyboard, performance level 3 would kick in. Linux has no such tool. My guess is that the overclocking utility wrote to registers on the card. If that's the case, how on earth can I do think in Linux? Is there nobody having the same or at least having a clue how to solve that?
Can I do something or is this just a Nvidia driver bug? -
Restrict PO based on the maximum stock level qty in MMR
Hi
We have maintained Maximum Stock level in MRP1 in Material Master. Is there any facility which can restrict the Purchaser, not to raise any PO more than maximum stock level qty which is maintained in Material Master ??? how to do ?
Is there any user exit or warning mesge settings?
Edited by: Jayakumar Raju A.S on Jan 13, 2010 8:55 AMIf you want do such check then you have to do that in a userexit.
I am personally the opinion that a purchaser does not extend the PO quantity just for fun. Maybe he gets a better price if he procures a little more. It is probably a lack of training and knowledge about each others work, that a buyer does not understand what the maximum stock level is , and the planner may not understand the particular issues a buyer deals with daily.
Bring those two together an let they explain each other the reason for the maximum stock level and the reason why the order quantities are changed. Maybe they will finally change the maximum stock level, maybe the buyer will not change the quantities anmore without discussing it first with the planner...... -
Real-time apply in Maximum Performance Mode Not Working
We have configured physical standby database in maximum performance mode. It's working perfectly fine. Archive logs are being applied to the physical standby.
We can open the DB in read-only mode, but real-time apply is not working. Physical standby database is lagging behind the primary db by an archive log. As soon as primary database generates an archive log, it's transported over to the standby and applied immediately by the media recovery process. But real-time redo is not working. Standby redo logs have been configured.
On Physcial Standby:
SQL> alter database recover managed standby database using current logfile disconnect ;
Database Altered.
SQL> select group#, DBID, status,first_time, last_time from v$standby_log ;
GROUP# DBID STATUS FIRST_TIM LAST_TIME

SQL> select * from v$dataguard_stats ;

As you could see from the output above, value of transport and apply lag is equal to the elapsed time since last archive log switch.

jayHi,
In your case you are using ARC process for redo transfer as you have not specified any process in log_archive_dest_2 and default is arch.
I will suggest you to use LGWR to transfer the redo to standby and also check the size of standby redo logs on standby is same to the size of online redo logs on primary

Best practice for maximum performance
Hi all
OS : Linux AS 4.2
Oracle 9.2.0.8
My database size is around 4TB (Every day increasing 5GB) and we are following a method like analyze the main table's latest partitions only because the entire statistics collection will take more time. Is that a good practice?
Is there any difference between analyze table command and using dbms_stats package to collect statistics?
Collecting entire statistics or estimate 33 % or 15% will make any difference (Performance level)?
Indexes are one of the main factors which will effect to the database performance. As a DBA, what all the things I should do in a daily basis to maintain indexes in a proper state.
I just wanted to know a best way of managing the statistics and indexes properly
Many thanks in advance

it depends, as always. If you have (important or large) queries that rely on global-level statistics then the statistics generated by "aggregation" (provided you've complete statistics on partition-level) might be insufficient, or they might become more and more outdated if you've generating them once and don't update them any longer (provided you're using DBMS_STATS, ANALYZE is not capable of generating genuine global-level statistics).
Note that 11g offers here a significant improvement with the "incremental" global statistics. See Greg Rahn's blog note about this interesting enhancement:
http://structureddata.org/2008/07/16/oracle-11g-incremental-global-statistics-on-partitioned-tables/
>
Is there any difference between analyze table command and using dbms_stats package to collect statistics? Definitely there are, more or less subtle ones. Regarding the partitioning, as already mentioned above, DBMS_STATS is capable of generating "real" top-level statistics at the price of "duplicate" work (analyzing the table at whole potentially reads the same data again that has been used to generate the partition-level statistics), but see the comment about 11g above.
There are more subtle difference, e.g. regarding the calculated average row length, etc.
>
Collecting entire statistics or estimate 33 % or 15% will make any difference (Performance level)? It all depends on your data. 1% might be sufficient to get the plans right, but sometimes even 33% might not be good enough. 11g adds here another significant improvement using a cunning "AUTO_SAMPLE_SIZE" algorithm that seems to get it quite close to "computed" statistics but taking far less time:
http://structureddata.org/2007/09/17/oracle-11g-enhancements-to-dbms_stats/
Indexes are one of the main factors which will effect to the database performance. As a DBA, what all the things I should do in a daily basis to maintain indexes in a proper state. B*tree indexes should in general be in a good condition without manual interference, there are only a few circumstances where you should consider performing manual maintenance. And most of these can be covered by the "COALESCE" operation, an actual "REBUILD" should not be required in most cases.
You might want to read Richard Foote's blog about indexes:
http://richardfoote.wordpress.com
and Jonathan Lewis' notes about index rebuilding:

Hi Experts,
We want one facility in SAP where no body will be able to make PO or Post Migo if plant stock of any material is beyond maximum stock level. I suppose there is no standard feature in SAP which can restrict user to make PO or Post MIGO. Is there any user exit or badi, which can help us in achiving this. or any other solution.
Full points to helping answers.
Regards
GR.Dear Rajeev,
Since you have maintained MRP view for the material , this indicate MRP process is active in your company. You plan requirement generation of this item through MRP ( Automatic procurement) so that unless your stock level doesnt fall below safety stock, New Requirement will not be generated, so schedule lines for supplier will not be generated. If there are no schedule lines / delivery schedule Store person cannot make Good Receipt. This will solve your problem.
If found useful please reward point.

NVIDIA Detonator Driver Performance Database
The guys at Tweakers Asylum have built a Public nVidia Detonator Driver Performance Database used to store information on the various nVidia Detonator Drivers. They are collecting benchmark information, based on 3DMark2001 SE results for nVidia Detonator Drivers.
Public Detonator Driver Database
Take Care,
RichardMy system halts whenever I do certain applications such as Windows Media player. audio cleaning Lab 2005 deLuxe, and recordings..... it happens all the time. However, PC does not crash at other times.
I thought it was my old GeForce3 Ti200 in the first place so I changed it to GeForce4 Ti4600 and the problem is still there :(
I refreshed Win98se and downloaded updates from Microsoft. I ran memtest68, Registry mechanics, Anti-virus - all successful but still my PC crashes! By the way, my PSU is http://www.jeantech.com/Products/Power_Supply/400W/400w.html (+3.3v @ 28A, +5v @ 35A, +12v @ 17A). This is my new PSU replacing my old PSU 300W just few weeks ago. I suppose this PSU is rubbish! right?
Any suggestions here? -
Shortly after purchasing Elements 8 I also bought "Maximum Performance" by Mark Galer. For the most part it has been a great help to me although I have never discovered how to down load and use the presets he includes. I recently went to use the tutorals which I down loaded to my computer when I purchased the book as suggested, and found that I not longer have sound with the lessons. This is a real problem. Reviewing a process demonstrated in a tutorial with no sound is not very useful. I then tried using the programs directly form the DVD provided with the book and I have no sound form there either. Would anyone know if this is something that happens often with this publication? I have all the audio functions working on my computer which is fairly new. (Just over a year old with Windows 7) Can anyone help?
BernieAfter downloading one of the videos for pse 9, it seems that quicktime works and plays sound whereas windows media player does not.

Can fast start failover be achieved in maximum performance mode
In a physical standby I would like to know if it is possible to configure High Availability in async mode to achieve fast-start failover? If so, please briefly describe how. Thanks
I've always said, size doesn't matter to Data Guard except when you are creating a standby database. After that it is the amount of Redo that is generated by the Primary database. A failover is a failover, for a 10GB database or for a 60TB database. The scary part is having to get the old Primary back up as a standby as quickly as possible.
Of course if the original Primary is completely toast then you have to recreate it with a new backup of the new primary or use a backup of the original Primary that happens to be on the Primary system and restore it as a standby and let Data Guard catch it up with the current state of affairs.
But, if the original Primary is still intact then you can use flashback database to reinstate it as a physical standby with little effort and no major backup restores. And of course, that is one of the requirements of Fast-Start Failover (FSFO). To enable it you have to have flashback database enabled on both the Primary and the FSFO target standby. Since enabling FB Database requires the database to be at the mount state I would suggest you enable it right after the upgrade to 11g.
When FSFO triggers a failover after a failure of the Primary, the Observer will automatically re-instantiate the failed Primary as a standby when it is started again and then it will be resynchronized with the new Primary automatically by Data Guard as normal.
The only difference between Maximum Availability FSFO and Maximum Performance FSFO is that you have to decide how much data you are will to lose when a failover occurs and tell the Broker by configuring the FastStartFailoverLagLimit property (see section 9.2.12 of the Broker manual).
You also want to be sure to place the Observer on a system where it is not affected by the Primary or Standby server going down or a network break between the Primary and the Standby. And if you can, use Grid Control. When you enable FSFO in Grid Control (on the Data Guard home page) you can specify 2 systems where the Observer can live. If it goes down on the original system an atempt will be made to restart it there. If that system if no longer available then Grid Control will attempt to start a new Observer on the 2nd system.
I would highly recommend you read the section [5.5 Fast-Start Failover|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28295/sofo.htm#i1027843] for lots of good information. And of course, the [Data Guard 11g Handbook|http://www.amazon.com/Oracle-Guard-Handbook-Osborne-ORACLE/dp/0071621113] (sorry, still plugging the book :^)

The maximum SOUND level is low on iPad mini retina, compared to an iPhone 4s. Research shows this is a common problem for this model around the world. Has anyone succeeded in solving this issue? Many Thanks, Peter.

Restoring NVIDIA TwinView Firmware?
Hi,
I have a Quicksilver, and just flashed its NVIDIA TwinView card using Apple's 'FCode Flasher 1.1', which was supposed to allow the card to process higher resolutions.
Now, I'm having trouble with non-Apple displays, and want to reflash the TwinView with the original firmware, but am having trouble finding it.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks.
J.C.Hi J.C.W-
I found a page that may contain the resources that you need to restore (?) your Geforce.
I can't say that I have any experience with attempting such.
Anyways, take a look at the following:
