Laptop Over Heating

Hey..I need Help wid my Laptop. Its over heating at times. And It gets off while playing games.I want to know the possible causes of the problem.
Thank You!

Many times a laptop overheating is directly related to the cooling of the processor.  The main culprit is the fan.  The fan sucks in air from the bottom and blows it out the side.  It will also suck in hair, dust, and other debris.  That stuff often gets trapped by the heat sink and over time builds up in a layer which chokes off the cool air going to the processor making the fan work harder.
What I recommend is getting some canned air and blowing out the vents in the side and bottom of the laptop.  If after doing this you still have problems with over-heating, and your laptop is in warranty, you can take your laptop to a HP Authorized Service Center and ask them to clean the fan and heatsink.  You can check your warranty here:
http://www13.itrc.hp.com/service/ewarranty/warrantyResults.do?admit=109447627+1286541891570+28353475
If it is out of warranty, consider searching for the maintenance manual for your specific model, in the manual there are schematics for taking apart the laptop.  Cleaning the fan is much easier that removing a motherboard, so don't feel to intimidated by the idea.  Also you can remove the heatsink and then remove the thermal grease and apply a new layer which also helps alleviate heat related issues.
I hope this helps.  If you like my advice and it works for you, please thank me by clicking the Kudos Star under my screen name, thanks!

  • Laptop over heating then shutting down

    Model; Satellite L355-S7812
I've hade this computer two years. It started over heating then shutting down soon after I purchased it. It use to take 4-5 hours before it overheated now its less than an hour. What can be the problem?

Probably the fans. They may need to be replaced. The Qosmio I purchased in 2005 had the same problem. I replaced the fans twice over the 5 years I used it. Fan issues are known problems with certain models, especially those that have high CPU usage. By the way, a Toshiba technician told me never to place the laptop directly on the lap or on a soft service like a bed. The fans can't ventilate properly, especially if they are located on the bottom of the computer. Since I have done that, the fans have worked fine.

    Thanks HP

    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/index.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->
This means that you saved a child document as a template file at some stage.
If you go to Modify->Templates->Detach from Template, you can remove the template structure from your document. All you then need to do is to re-save the document as a template.

  • Laptop over-heats and other curious issues

I updated the bios to 2.20 on my P755-s5383 and ever since it has been getting very hot (hot enough for discomfort) and the volume buttons above the keyboard (the ones that run on the "added value package") don't work unless I open the speaker control from the tray sometimes along with the scroll function on the touchpad (the symbol comes up but it does not scroll). The fan is running fine, btw.

BIOS update 2.80 released 11/29/12. If that's not the one you're using, you may want to upgrade to it.
    ACPI Flash BIOS version 2.80 for Satellite P750/P755 (PSAY1x/PSAY3x)(v2.80; 11-23-2012; 7.21M)
You may also want to reinstall TVAP.

  • C7 switches off if it is over heated?

yesterday my c7 was connected to laptop and phone was in 3g mode.
In my home 3g signals are weak so while downloading files using nokia c7's internet connected to laptop nokia c7 gets heated but that is normal
but yesterday c7 got automatically switched off 3 times even though battery was full(didnt matter anyway as it was chrging as usb mode)
and each time back cover of phone was extreamly hot
now on internet i have seen so many cases where nokia c7 just dont switch on at all after crash
but i was able to switch on my phone
    so my question is
my c7 about to get dead forever?
    Or
is this normal situation that nokia c7 gets automatically switched off if it is over heated at certain temprature?

For a safety point of view i would send it to a Nokia care point for inspection.it is normal for the phone to heat up slightly when charging.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Dv6-3123tx - is facing over heating problem?

    Hi All,
I am planning to buy another LPTP
    my main requriment is :  intel  i5  ,  4 GB RAM ,  atlist 2.66GHZ cpu , 15" monitor.
So that I have chk hp following model :  dv6-3123tx its cost is  Rs.50,000/- INR
I have chked some review of  (dv6-3123tx) and some post is saying it is having over heating problem and hp is stoped to supply it in to the market.
can any one will me guide me in this case. or pls suggest some model.
    I m from India
my budget is up to Rs. 50,000/- INR =  $ 1050/- USD
    niranjan

i have bought the dv6-3123tx about 2 months back and i wouldnot recommend it to anyone too.
All i do i browse and sometime not even that. Leaving it on the table switched on make its go hot, so hot that you cant even type on the keyboard. And the sound the fan makes is annoying.
The touchpad is also one big disadvantage. it makes a sound each time you click. So you cannot work unless you have a mouse. Right now its so heated up that i can barely type (mostly on the left hand side of the laptop.
Also i was checking for remedies when I relaised that this laptop 3123 is not even listed in the HP products list:
    http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-001&h_lang=en&h_cc=in&h_product=4247579&h_client=s-s...
If you perform a search with this name, you wouldnot get any results. I guess i better take it to the store immediately before it burns my hand, else i would have to use it as an omlette maker.

  • Ipad over heating issue

I have had a search and replies to this question are about a year old. Has Apple been able to resolve the heating issue with ipad or are they an inside only device?
I would like one for work where I am an ecologist and require something to record data in the field, unfortunately here in Western Australia it gets pretty warm in summer.
Has anyone had issues with recently manufactured ipad1 or ipad2 over heating in the sun?
Has anyone found a way around this, chilled case?..
    Thanks
    Mark

I just saw this case in the link below today. It's called an icePad. I don't think it will help for a full eight hours of work, but it might help for a few hours at a time maybe. Since the iPads cooling requirements are so much lower than a laptops you might even be pleasantly surprised.

That particular case doesn't have any reviews, but the laptop cooling pad in the link below has some reviews and it is using the same technique.

  • My iphone4S over heats when playing Asphalt7 .Is it normal?

    Hi Everyone ,
I have downloaded Asphalt 7 game which is car racing game  in my iphone4s and when i started using it ,I felt heat on my finger from my Iphone4S.
I do know that the game uses lot of battery power for performing graphical and other gaming function in processor. But is it normal that iphone over heats while playing .
Have any one experienced the same?
    Thanks

Can we assume you use a laptop and not the silver tower to black cylinder type Mac Pro desktop computer?
Laptops always run hot and hotter.
While usually "less is more" and a good idea to not go installing extra utilities that run in the background and such, it is a good idea to monitor a system and its thermal sensors.
Hardware Monitor was great but does not work on the Mac Pro Late 2013 6,1 models (current) but does on older models, and iStatPro is a good alternative and popular.
Having actual numbers can be more helpful than "it gets hot" to know how hot, and also what is normal as well as for the fans and base rate and during gaming.
Some people of course use computers more specially geared toward gaming and geared to higher performance, higher tolerance for heat, and cpu and graphic card(s) to meet the needs of games - with more fans, more air flow, or even water cooled. On the Mac Pro noise and quiet were chosen as priorities. Also the cpu and gpu on the 6,1 are designed to throttle and shift work loads and not to run both cpu and gpu at their maximum performance levels which would limit games and fps. (Some of course install Windows where GPUs are used to better advantage).

  • SL440 Over Heat and Wireless disconnect

    Hi

Second one is wireless Lan Disconnect  after few hours later the wireless disconnect automatically and it also doesn't show any wifi signal in his range. But after restarting the wireless lan work again. After that it goes to disconnect again after few hours.
I hope this problem occurs from over heat from the motherboard..

  • Hp Dv6-1211AX over heating problem

    Hai ,
I purchased hp pavilon Dv6-1211AX in the 8 months ago.Now my laptop getting over heat even i dont run any applications.
can you please help me to fix this.?
does coold pad helps me ?

I had the same overheating problem as well. I had the HP technician apply a layer of Shin-etsu thermal paste to the graphics card, chipset and processor, had the heat sink fan assembly cleaned, and removed the sponges on the sides of the heatsink to increase ventilation.
Try doing the same to your computer  and the temperatures will be back to normal. The temperatures in mine have stabilized to 47 degrees in idle (high performance profile) and reaches a max of 79 degrees while gaming and rendering.
While applying the thermal paste, make sure the technician spreads it evenly and then clips on the heat sink. A curing time for the thermal paste is required to evenly spread out on the processor, so give it about a weeks time for it to get set and then start playing.
Try changing the operating system from Vista to Windows 7 64 bit. It helps in increasing the processing speed, lowering CPU and GPU temps and increases performance on the whole.

  • My hp compaq presario62 has been over heating and mostly shut down what can i do

my hp compaq presario62  has been over heating and mostly  shut down  what can i do?

You can try a usb cooling pad but I am not a big fan of them....if your laptop needs one there is a problem that needs to be fixed. The likely issue is a clogged fan and cooling system which requires disassembly and cleaning out around the fan and heatsink, removing the heatsink and appplying new thermal compound. You can also perhaps help by using compressed air blown into the heat vents.

  • Problem regarding over heat of the lap

    Hi,
This is ramtej, i am using g62tx lap . from the last 4 months my system gets over heated and later it strucks.... in this moment when we plugin the charger it works properly but the heat remains so high. for a while due to over heat it automatically shutting down..
Can you tell me where is the problem, i am thiunking that heat sink might get problemed
please help me in  this am not able to see my lap suffering like this
    thanks&regards,
    BVN RAMTEJ

I would suggest you to remove any external peripherals connected to the system. Also, ensure that the Laptop is used in a room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a humidity level no greater than 90%.
Periodically clean the fan and all vents with some type of forced air such as a can of compressed air.
Boot the system in BIOS and check if the issue persists. To go to BIOS, shut down the system and keep tapping F2. If the issue occurs in BIOS too, then may be the system is overheating and hence you may have to replace the fan.
Once you are on this website, insert system Service Tag and choose Operating System, click on BIOS and update it.
Note: Plug your computer to a good, working UPS before you update the BIOS. If you experience a loss of AC power or a significant voltage sag/spike during the BIOS flash, you will either have to buy a new BIOS chip or buy a new motherboard.
Use the Laptop on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface. This will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I turn my MacBook Air on after an over-heat-shutdown?

I was using my Mac today and it suddenly froze and the date on the top went funny. I tried pressing buttons on the keyboard and nothing seemed to work. So I pressed and held the power button down and it turned off. Then I tried turning it back on but, it won't. The white status light on the bottom side of the computer becomes bright and then starts blinking with an alarm sound. Im not sure of the reason for that sudden freeze. I think its cuz of over heating, cuz I left it turned on since last evening. (MacBook Air, Intel Core 2 Duo, OSX Lion)

As BobTheFisherman already said, it is impossible to say until you find out just what was damaged.  If enough coffee got inside it, it could well be the logic board and every other piece of circuitry inside is fried.  Or it could be less damaged and repairable.  But you really need someone to open it up, disassemble it and find out just what was shorted out and how extensive the damage is.
I would forewarn you that you may be looking at having to replace the whole machine, in a worst case scenario.

  • Battery Purging and Over heating Phone!

WHAT?!!  I have assumed that my LG Revolution spontaneously purging the entire battery charge at once then over heating and shutting down was a hardware issue!  Now I find that it is the result of yet ANOTHER OS SOFTWARE upgrade issue?!  OMG are you kidding me?!!  I have been PLAGUED with problems since I was forced to upgrade my android OS to 2.3.6 through Verizon!  I am ready to make ANY change I have to escape this plague!!  I PAY WAY TOO MUCH MONEY for android smart phones and premium service through a so called 'premium' provider to have to put up with economy freakin performance Verizon!!!
I am especially disappointed in Verizon since I took the phone all the way to their coorporate store 5 months ago and all they did was scratch their heads!  They tried to sell me a new battery which also immediately commenced to over heat; so of course the next course of action was to try and sell me a NEW PHONE!
I've been sitting here with a DEAD VERIZON phone all day AGAIN trying to rescucitate it!!  ****, that **!

Thank you Verizon; you're right.  Buying a new phone is the fix!  I bought a brand new LG Spectrum at the Verrizon store yesterday and my old LG Revolution immediately began to work perfectly again. That was the fix.  Of course....
You think this is messed up?  It just gets weirder.  Before going to bed last night I took my new LG Spectrum off a 4 hour charge because it was full.  It slept all night.  When I checked it in the morning it had one missed call and 6 emails; that's it.  The battery charge however was completely on EMPTY!  OMG!!??  What the....?  Yesterday I was rather puzzled by how exceptionally warm/hot it felt while on charge.  The charger plug also felt the same.  It's on charge right now using the supplied charger but I changed it to a different outlet.  It's still very warm/hot.  I'm befungled!!  I live in a 1/2 million $ condo packed with properly working electronics' so it's certainly not a source problem.
More weirdness:  yesterday I was downloading and re-installing programs and updates to reload my new phone.  A couple of hours later it went on an all out download splurge all on it's own, one after another it was a stream of unwanted downloads I couldn't stop.  I turned off wi-fi, but eventually had to shut down the phone right in the middle of processes..... not a good.   (UPDATE:  solved this issue.  I discovered that all the bloatware pre-installed on the phone further imposes itself by ALSO being set to 'auto update' itself. Oh! cool!  and check this out: it won't let you uninstall any of that sh*t!  Cool huh?   Thanks LG or is it Verizon; I want to be sure to give due credit to whomever is responsible for that *** idea!)
My new not-so smartphone phone, less than 24 hours old, is already fouled.
UPDATE:  5 hours later.  No phone call usage today.  Emails, texts, a few downloads, and some new phone setup configuring today.  Phone is dead after 5 hours of use.  Took old phone off 1 hour charge and of course it was as cool as a cucumber, plugged in new phone and it became hot within minutes.  I think that the solution is to just go back to using landlines....
Attached below is a photo showing the EKG of the entire life of my NEW phone.  1 day and 7 hours.  Hmph?  And I am already in the forums.  Anyone know what the record is?

I have done absalutely nothing to my 4g apple ipod touch, and it over heats, won't hold a charge, and the front camera will not work. I bought this brand new in december, and i've barely used it. I've tried restarting it and everything, I honestly think this is out raging because i spend over $200 on this. To have for music and instagram. I use it about an hour a day, but i've only been using it for about 3 months although i've had it since December. Any suggestions that may help me?

    Try:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
