Laptop Restarts randomly and Freezes with graphic errors
Hello,
I've been having some strange issues with my computer and would like some help with determining the cause.
It will do the following:
1. Restart randomly. Screen goes dark and immediately jumps to the Toshiba screen that is seen when the system starts
2. System will freeze, leaving screen with green lines over what it was originally showing.
3. System occasionally has Blue Screen Of Death instead of number 1.
Note: Both of these errors happen regardless of the system's heat and my McAffe full scan returned no results (over 20 hours of scanning). Using the system in safe mode causes these errors to stop, I think. In doing so, I was able to complete such
a long scan when my computer was otherwise in a fit of its restarting "bouts."
System:
Toshiba Satellite L775d-S7222
Purchased 2 years ago. First error stated a year ago, second half a year ago.
Here is a link to my system and application log files for the last 24 hours. Note that I had error 1 at 7:58pm Wednesday march 12, 2014 and error 2 at 8:03 pm Wednesday march 12, 2014. From researching these problems I found that these logs would show
issues, but I am not sure how to interpolate them. Could someone help me with what they are indicating is the problem or what I need to look at that would indicate the problem?

Thanks a lot

You have quite a few issues and the log file is over 100,000 entries. It might be a good idea to clear these logs once in a while.
In my first glance at this you have two active Malware applications and that in itself can cause freezes and crashes.
They both should be removed and MSE should be used in their place. This may fix the problem. If it doesnt please clear your event viewer logs and upload the following.
Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:
Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
Expand Custom Views
Click Administrative Events
Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Right click Errors.evtx -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file to Onedrive or a file sharing service and put a link to it in your next post
We do need the actual DMP file as theyvcontain the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
We prefer at least 2 DMP files to spot trends and confirm the cause.
Please follow our instructions for finding and uploading the files we need to help you fix your computer. They can be found here
If you have any questions about the procedure please ask
To remove the two active malware applications'
McAffe often contributes to BSOD'S
I would remove and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials

Random system freezes with different errors in syslog
Hi,
my system freezes randomly within one to 5 days. I tried to google for the error messages, but I found very much results for e.g. "kernel: general protection fault" or nothing for e.g. find_inode_fast. Most of the time the errors seem for me to have to do with a hard drive, because:
- the freeze is often shortly after rsnapshot ran (anachron daily job)
- the word 'inode' in strack traces
- (I think 'Comm' stands for 'command'?!) Comm is often something which works with a hard drive, e.g. rm, unrar, rsnapshot
So I ran 'fsck' and 'badblocks -n' on my SSD and checked the SMART status of both SSD and external drive (backup disk). But there is all fine, no errors.
I hope someone can point me in the right direction where the error can be.
Here are the full logs from journalctl http://pastebin.com/LTynE1sM and this is a shrinked version:

I also use another harddrive and another backup utility (deja dup instead of rsnapshot) for some days now, but this doesn't seems to help as you can see that 'duplicity' (deja dups utillity) was also one user space programm which froze the system. Now I try to see if microcode installation fixed the problem. I had to reboot the system for the installation of microcodes, so I have to wait and see how long my uptime gets. -

Fill-in PDF forms and save with no error messages. How?
I've saved a Reader Extended PDF enabling form fill-in and save, but users report error saying, "WITHOUT THE OWNER PASSWORD YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO SAVE THIS DOCUMENT." What do I need to do enable them to fill-in and save with no errors?
BTW, most users of this form (which was created in Adobe Acrobat v. XI on a Mac w/iOS version 10.7.5) have no problem with it. Only certain users (on Macs) have this "password required" error show up. How do I make it workable for everyone, including these Mac users?

IMac crashes on startup or freezes with graphical glitches
Hi,
My early 2009 24" iMac suddenly crashed a few days ago, while browsing on the internet with no major app running. It did so with graphical glitches, like coloured dots. Since then, it would always shut down suddenly every time I restart. It shuts down right after the Apple logo and the wheel, once even reaching the user selection screen for a second, then shutting down before I could even move.
I started it in safe mode and ran all the checks, it says the volume is fine. When checking disk permissions, it did give me a few error messages but let me do the repairs. Weird thing is when I ran the disk permission verification again it showed me the same permission, as if they hadn't been repaired.
Now I backup everything and tried to reinstall OS X but to no avail, it kept doing the same thing.
So I formatted the disk, zeroed it out and reinstalled Mavericks. Same thing keeps happening, which seem to indicate some kind of hardware failure, right?
On one occasion it did start up but after a few seconds it froze, with heavy glitches (see picture attached - sorry it's upside down but it doesn't make a huge difference anyway!).
I upgraded the iMac with new RAM a year ago or so, and 2 years ago it had a hard drive failure, so I replaced the HD. Never had any problems in general, apart from when I had to replace the HD of course. It's always been very stable and well behaved.
Any idea what the problem could be? I'm not looking forward to having to fork out £1500 for a new one...http://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/ may be worth reading before you visit Apple. I don't thibk you'd be the first to argue that an expensive, quality computer ought to last more than 5 years, albeit that say, mechanical hard drives inside might need replacing.

Oracle support and compatibility with graphics cards
I have been going through 2 weeks of hell getting any kind of meaningful information on Oracle linux 6.2 support for various graphics cards. I started with an ATI FireGl card that would not work with OEL 6.2. I am swapping that out in the seemingly futile hope that I can get an Nvidia GEFORCE 8800 to work. Either I am conducting my search using the wrong verbage(hard to imagine, but possible) or totally incompetant! I am here in one last desperate gamble that SOMEONE has gone through this pain before me. Maybe I am asking too much to be able to install 11GR2 on my server and still be able to use a Gnome desktop. Linux Mint worked perfectly with the ATI card, but alas, I could not install Oracle.
Thank you in advance
DeanFrom what I understand, the error means that the X Window server cannot find a display attached to your DVI output, which actually means it does not support the DVI port where your display has been attached to. This is a problem of the video driver that simply lacks support for your graphics adapter.
I suggest to start by connecting only one display and verify it is connected to the DVI-1 port of the adapter. Support for DVI-2 requires support by the video driver.
Enterprise Linux should work with graphics adapters that are standard with server hardware sold by HP and Dell. Graphics adapters you can buy over the desk from ATI and NVIDIA are usually designed for the end-user desktop/game market and are all difficult to get fully working under Enterprise Linux. You can check the vendor support page to see if they provide driver support for SUSE and RHEL, but I doubt that it will work with the Oracle Linux UEK kernel. Driver software from these vendors are not open source and require a specific Linux kernel. Alternative drivers exist for http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/ for NVIDIA, but your success will vary, in particular if you need to support 2 monitors, which is not a typical server system setup.
You might have more luck using a Linux distribution for desktop systems, such as Fedora or Ubuntu. What you are planning to install from Oracle? It is easier to get Oracle Database working on unsupported Linux than trying to hack a video driver to support advanced features on an unsupported operating system. Or try a complete different approach and install Windows and use virtualization, like Oracle VirtualBox to run Oracle Linux out of the box. I would prefer to use virtualization even if my desktop computer would run Linux. There are just too many advantages I would not want to miss anymore. -
Random hard freezes with 10.9.1
I am experiencing random "Hard" (spinning ball, inability to force quit) freezes with my new 27" iMac. I bought the new machine in December and migrated the hard disk contents from my 3 year old 27" iMac. Over the last month the freeezes have occured at least once every week, but twice yesterday. In one instance the only application in use was Apple Mail. So far today it's been behaving. Both Thunderbolt and USB hard drives were both mounted in every instance.
Any suggestions?Lex, Here are the results of my Etrecheck run today. I note that the producer says it prouces the best results if the computer has been running for some time and I've just rebooted from a hard freeze. I don't know what this means. I also don't know how to dig any actionabable information out of what follows. Can you help?

Why is my Intel iMac restarting randomly and USB keyboard not working randomly?
My intel iMac has been randomly rebooting itself without any error messages. It also seems to coincide with the keyboard (USB) not working, but not always. At first, it seemed to happen right after waking the computer from sleep, but now it happens when I am just sitting at the computer about once or twice a day. For now, i have temporarily removed all external devices (except time capsule) and disabled any bluetooth or iTunes synch'ing over wifi. I have also disabled all power management features.
I've tried different keyboards and resetting the SMC. Could bad memory cause this?Could be anything from a loose power cable, to loose or bad RAM module.
1. Check all your power connections, including the mag connector on the back of the iMac.
2. Reinstall the RAM modules, as per > iMac: How to remove or install memory. When installing new or reinstalling RAM, be sure to push firmly on each module with both thumbs to insure that they are fully seated in the slots.
Then if it is still acting up...
3. Run the > Extended Apple Hardware Test -
Has anyone noticed their iPad is slower and freezes with the new IOS 7 upgrade
Is anyone having problems with your iPad freezing with the new operating system
Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

Retina Macbook Pro Graphics Jittery and worse with graphic switching turned off
I recently updated my computer I've been running Mountain Lion since it was available. But recently I performed the apple updates (which I don't think had anything to do with graphics) and suddenly everything is jittery, choppy and freaking out. I could be wrong but just suddenly the other day everything was super choppy.
Turning off "Automatic Graphics Switching" actually makes it every MORE jittery and choppy. I have to keep it on otherise I cannot even scroll a webpage with out the jittery making it impossible to see anything until I stop scrolling.
I notice the choppness when using expose, switching desktops, sometimes when scrolling in Google Chrome (Definately when the AGS is turned off), going into full screen app mode, and my top bar lags and you can see it flash when it refreshes itself.
I've tried clearing my PRAM with no luck and also tried an SMC reset, again with no luck.
Any thoughts? This is incredibly annoying!I was able to fix the graphics by the following:
Creating a time machine backup
creating a bootable Mountain lion SD Memory card (I didn't have a USB sick available)
Booted into the recorvery manager
Erased the disk
reinstalled Mountain lion from the SD Card
Imported my data from Time machine. IMPORTANT: I didn't included any settings or "other settings" I just moved ONLY apps and files
My desktop appeared to be just as it was before, all apps and everything in the correct place (Go Time machine!)
Programs with issues after re-install:
AutoCAD 2013 for mac had some folder issue, AutoDesk had a workaround (I just uninstalled it, I don't use it much)
Virtual Box running a Windows 7 install completely crapped out (I never wanted to use Windows on my Mac anyways)
Mail app had to re-initialize, but all settings and account information was saved. Just had to wait for it to download the all the emails from my accounts again
That's all I found so far! I'm glad to have the screen animations back to felling like butter. Makes me love my Mac all over again! -
Random Freeze with { UNC } error - hard disk problems?
Hi,
My laptop randomly freezes for a couple of seconds frequently. I am running 2.6.30-ARCH in a dell inspiron. I did a check on the /var/log/errors.log and found the follwing block of errors occuring over and over again as soon as the freeze up happens.

i did some googling and found out this may be due to damaged areas in the hard disk or the hard disk is about to fail. (is it true?)
I followed some other thread, used system rescue cd and did a fsck -f on the root partition. I still keep getting these randon freezes. is there anything i can do to fix these?
your help is appreciated.
Last edited by greylogic (2009-09-27 03:00:43)I used the 80 wire cable that came with the board and ran the WD's jumperless (cable select) with the drive at one end and the blue connector on the MB. I also tried a 40 wire cable with the drive set to master. Both of these scenarios worked fine on my other computer, which I switched back and forth several times to prove to myself that the drives were fine and the cables were ok.
I did run spinrite from dos and was always able to work with the drives as long as I selected LBA access and disabled [Integrated Peripherals]->[VIA OnChip IDE Device]->[IDE DMA Transfer Access].
The MB never autodetected any of the drives correctly. Only when I used the the older WD 1200JB with access mode set to [LBA] and disabled IDE DMA Transfer Access did i get partial success. Admittedly, this is a very obscure problem and not many others are hitting. Hopefully the service guys will be able to sort it out since it is easy to reproduce.
I never used that JPWR2 connector, the manual stated that it was to supply power to the graphics card but my card has a regular 4 pin molex that i could get directly from the power supply. Wonder if the board would blow up if someone stuck the 4pin lead from their PSU in there ... maybe not such a great feature.
I did not try a single CPU or run memtest86 - things I probably should have tried. The problem to me seemed to be the integrated IDE controller was just not working correctly, so after changing ram, power supply, drives etc and seeing the exact same problem with the hard disk, I became more convinced it was just a flakey board. Plus the need to clear CMOS and reboot constantly to get the board to post added to theory.
Oh well, it is in RMA land now, so when it comes back I will let you know how it goes. -
Random display freeze, with strange colors and screeching noises
True story. My (totally new) MacBook freezes 3-4 times a day, with lots weird colors and screeching noises. I've added photos of this phenomena on Flickr, here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/photomaton/3433889119/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/photomaton/3434685366/
Couple of stuff about this machine:
- Sometimes the noises are muted; but the images speak for themselves.
- I installed 4GB memory. It was done by a pro.
- This mostly happens when I connect an external display and/or use VMWare. But it also happens from time to time, with no external display, and no VMWare running.
Help.
Please: Help.so the problem lies with the graphics card or the RAM? because i had a ram upgrade to 4gb ram as well.
my mac went for 3 days w/o error until today and i opened up the console and this the error i saw.

My IPAD keeps restarting a few minutes after booting up. It keeps doing it again and again, after the same period of time. Grateful for any help!
If the above doesn't work, force iPad into Recovery Mode.
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
