Laptop Return Question

Hello,
I purchased a Lenovo Z565 on May 30. A few days after I was unable to log on, as I kept getting an "Incorrect Password" error message, even though it was the same PW I had used since buying. I tried going in via safe mode and addressing the issue that way, but was unable to do so. Eventually I had to use my rescue disk to reload everything.
Since then the performance has been very unsteady. I have long delays booting up and shutting down; often, when WIndows makes an update before the laptop shuts down, when I start it back up later the laptop comes up for a moment and then shuts down again.
I really want to return for a different laptop of the same make (although I see the Z565 seems to be out due to this weeks sale) or a different brand, but I DON'T want to have it "repaired" as this point, as it seems to be a problematic unit.
Is it an issue to go in at this point and get an exchange/refund?
Thank you!

May 30 was less than 14 days ago (It's June 10 today) - But you don't have much longer, 2-3 days at most.

    well, pretty simple problem.
    When i'm using <fmt:message key="someunicode"/>, the tag returns question marks instead of hebrew unicode string.
    The page displays unicode that isn't coming from the tags.
    The resorues files is ok too.
    Anyone knows something about it?

    Have you set the bundle for the fmt tag before you use the <fmt:message> tag?
    <fmt:setBundle var="mybundle" basename="resources.application"/>
    Then :
    <fmt:message key="my.key.message" bundle="${mybundle}"/>You can also the the bundle in the <fmt:message> tag.

  • Sony Vaio Laptop return to factory settings HELP

    I have a Sony Vaio laptop that i bought 5 years ago.  It is very slow and takes a while to get into the swing of things and I want it to run better, So I have a 1TB external hard drive and I was going to back up all the important files and restore it to factory settings, BUT... I dont have a disc with windows on or anything like that.  So I've found that I can do a recovery partition. Will I be ok to do this without having Windows on disc etc etc?  Would this help the laptop run faster and "be like new" ?

    Hi ltc58!
    Thank you for considering Sony Community!
    Since your laptop is quite old and you're experiencing slow performance, performing a Full Format Recovery would be the best option, as long as the recovery partition of the unit is still intact and not corrupted. Yes, you can still try to format the computer. Please make sure to backup all of your important files on your external drive. The laptop will reinstall the Operating System and it will go back to its original factory settings.
    Please follow one of these steps:
    Using Assist Button: Shutdown the laptop and remove all peripherals except for AC adapter. Press Assist button. Select Start Recovery Wizard -> skip Rescue -> Start recovery.
    Using F10 key: Shutdown the laptop and remove all peripherals except for AC adapter. Turn on the unit then immediately, keep tapping F10 key.
    NOTES:
    *If an Edit Boot Options screen appears, press the Enter key.
    *If a Windows Boot Manager screen appears, select VAIO Recovery Environment and then press the Enter key.
    In the VAIO Recovery Center window, under Choose a program, click to select Restore Complete System. Follow the on-screen instructions.
    The process will take for about an hour. If none of these works, then the recovery partition is not accessible anymore. You may contact Sony Support based on your location to order a Recovery Disc or use a retail version of Operating System.
    For further assistance, we kindly recommend visiting our Sony Global Web site for information on contacting the Sony Support Center in your region at http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/.
    Hope one of the process works. Good-luck.

  • Laptop returned from service depot with a missing cap

    I just had a ThinkPad T410s returned from a service depot here in Canada.  It was sent in to replace a small part on the underside of the laptop, which was repaired.  However, it came back with one of the screws on the display missing it's cover.  Based on some other posts I had read on here, I took pictures of the laptop when I packed it to go to the depot, so I know 100% that this part wasn't missing when I sent it in for service.
    Link to picture
    I've called support and I asked them to just send me the cover so that I could snap it on.  However, they said they could not find a part # for it, so I'd have to send the laptop back to the depot for service again.  Can anyone on identify the kit that would contain this part so that I can avoid this?  In the service manual I see three different kits that include "Screw cap, thin" but I'm not sure if that's the part I need or not:
    75Y4472  Screw kit for T410s and T410si
    45M2673  Seal kit
    45M2674  LCD miscellaneous parts
    I'm quite irritated that I have to deal with this at all.
    1) I don't know why they would have touched the LCD screen in the first place to replace a part on the bottom of the laptop.
    2) It demonstrates a lack of detail on the service depot's part: a workbench should be checked to make sure no parts are leftover that weren't there when the laptop was unpacked.  And even if the part was missing when it arrived, good customer service would be to replace it.

  • IPad Return Question

    Sorry if this is in the wrong section but here is my question.  I recently received my iPad in the mail and it has some scratching on the sides and bezel.  I'd like to return it and purchase one at a later date.  The iPad was purchased with a gift card.  From my understanding, if I send it back to Apple, they will send me another gift card in the mail.  This is where my problem arrises.  I am currently in college but will be leaving shortly.  I don't think that the gift card would make it back here in time before I leave.  If I wait until I get home, the iPad will be out of the 14 day return period.  Is it possible to return the iPad from school but have the new gift card mailed back home?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Toshiba Laptop return - Data on hard drive secure wipe?

    I am going to return my Toshiba L645-S4102 tomorrow for an exchange for different computer at Best Buy.
    Since I did not burn recovery disks out of the box....yeah I know...     I am going to use the on-disk Toshiba Recovery Wizard to restore it to an out of box condition.
    QUESTION is though, does the Toshiba utility provide enough wipe that MY data placed on the drive will be securely deleted when I return it?
    I do not want to return it if my data is not removed first.  If I make recovery disks now that I have data on the drive, will it be transferred to the recovery DVD's, or will it just be the out of box recovery info there?
    Thanks,
    Bill

  • Laptop Build Questions

    Hello all,
    I am replacing my old desktop and laptop with a new laptop that is better than both. I am a film student and I prefer to do my editing at home as opposed to the school so editing capabilities is a must. I own the Production CS5.5 and I would like to build my laptop to match. I've decided on an Alienware because they are the only ones who provide Nvidia cards in a laptop and provide a nice exterior at a somewhat reasonable price, and I am deciding between the M14x and the M17x. My main question has to do with a video card - the cheaper laptops come with a Geforce GT555M card with either 1.5GB DDR3 or 3GB DDR3. The higher end laptops have a Geforce GTX560M or GTX580M with DDR5. Can those higher end video cards enable GPU acceleration? If not, is the DDR5 worth the upgrade to the more expensive laptop?
    Also of question is the upgradeable memory. What is the performance difference between 8GB and 16GB? Is it worth buying the more expensive laptop for the ability to upgrade to 16GB alone?
    Lastly, will the addition of an eSATA port for external storage make a big difference? I'd rather keep my storage external so I can move it to school when I need to, and because I just won't be able to get the kind of storage that editing requires in a laptop without losing another feature that I want like an optical drive or portability.
    I'd rather go with the cheaper, lighter, smaller M14x if the hardware differences aren't going to make a huge difference. If they are, then I'll know what I need to do. Of course, everything would be much easier if editing applications would just support ATI cards. Thanks in advance for your help.

    I'm sure that you are already well aware that video editing on a laptop has compromises, so the objective is to get the best mix of features and specs. considering your budget and tolerance for carrying weight and size.
    Regarding GPU, the GTX 460M and 560M have reportedly been working well, and while the more powerful GTX video cards sound great they are more difficult to cool and would not likely be as robust for video editing. DDR5 is better.
    Regarding CPU, you did not ask, but make sure you choose a quad-core 32nm CPU. Even the slower versions work pretty well and will save lots vs. the faster models of CPU in that same series.
    Regarding RAM, go with 16GB for sure if you care about rendering speed (i.e. burning a DVD or Blu-ray). You can squeak by with 8GB, but with RAM prices today I would not suggest it.
    Regarding eSata, I REALLY like it for laptop use. Fast and very reliable. USB 3.0 would be a second choice, and firewire 800 a distant third. USB 2.0 is pretty much only useful for backing up files on a video editing rig.
    Regarding brand, Sager is the first choice around this forum for mid-priced laptops ($1500 to $2500) and high-priced ($2500 and up). Asus and MSI have some offerings that are more affordable, but do not have eSata ports.
    Multi-spindle laptops are great. Some larger Sager's take up to 3 hard drives! The ultimate for video editing would be a SSD boot drive (around 120GB) + RAID 0 array with two 500GB or 750GB 7200 rpm drives. If you go with a smaller form-factor that cannot hold so many drives, Hitachi's G-RAID mini is a very nice small, fast RAID 0 2.5" drive solution that speaks eSata, firewire and USB (only 2.0); only downside is you need to plug it into a wall socket if you are using the eSATA.
    Finally, don't forget to look at screen resolution, not just screen size. Personally, I would want 1980 x 1080 or better if I was editing on a single laptop display much at all.

    The query results in 2576 question marks...(????? etc).
    Any idea what may be going on here?
    Thanks...

    Hello Tak,
    Thanks for replying. When this query is run from SQLPLUS we get a proper result back, that is the actual values from the SETTINGVALUE column. This is the LONG column and contains data like this:
    [Scan Section]
    DeviceTimeout=15
    Display=1
    hDCCreate=0
    Unit=0
    DialogTitle=
    IniFileName=c:\winnt\temp\kf.ini

    etc....etc....
    Depending on the settings created, the return string may vary in length.

  • Stolen laptop, iCloud question.

    My laptop was stolen yesterday while I was at work. I have heard from some people that you could track it if it was ever connected to Icloud. Mine was but I can't see a way to track it other than Find My Iphone and I never set that up on my mac. Is there any other way to track it? Thanks for any help in advance, Sorry if this is a stupid question.

    If you never enabled Find My Mac on it before it was stolen there is no way to track it.  If you did, you may be able to track it as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmfc0f2442.

  • Laptop battery question

    I have an HP dv4-2155dx The battery needs to be replaced with 484170-001 EV06. I've found some online for cheaper than the astronomical prices on HP's website. Hello phileyoung,
    The DV4-2155dx battery part number is 484170-001. Since that part number is listed on the links you gave for the other batteries I am going to state that I believe based on the description of the battery and the information that the source has provided that the battery should work in your laptop.

  • Laptop Replacement Question - Would appreciate advice!

    Hi Guys,
    After having issues with my new Macbook Pro applecare told me i would be recieving a replacement, and then sent me shipping labels through email.
    Now im just wondering what i have to give back to apple, i bought,
    15.4" Macbook Pro Unibody 2.93 GHz with 4 Gigs of Ram
    Apple Care
    iLife Preinstalled
    Along with that i have my copy of MacOSX, the power adapter,all the instruction books and manuals and the original box
    So what out of all this do i have to ship back, i know i can keep apple care and iLife, but will they ship me a brand new laptop in the original box with all the accessories or will i have to keep all my accessories?

    Hi Almeida5,
    I take it they're replacing it with one of the current models? Because currently there isn't a 2.93GHz MBP, so did you confirm that you'd be receiving a 3.06GHz MBP?
    I'll agree with what everyone else said... you need to contact Apple. Even if you call and ask to speak with someone else, I'm sure they can see the agent's case notes that you're working with on the replacement. Even another person at Apple would be in a better position to answer this question than anyone of us.
    With that being said, I had a unit replaced a few years ago. The only thing that they required back was the unit itself. I didn't have to send any of accessories, software, cabling, etc. Now, they certainly preferred I did (in the box) but it wasn't critical.
    iLife '09 comes pre-installed in all brand new computers from Apple, so that'll be the same. Did you mean iWork '09?
    Regarding Applecare, they don't "just transfer" it over to a new unit. There's an extra process that occurs that you need to agree to regarding the terms. You can get a pro-rated refund for the remainder of the plan or have the remainder of the plan rolled over to the new machine (there'd be a loss of time coverage).
    Again... the next best course of action, really the only course of action, is to get on the horn with Apple.

  • HP dv9629ca Laptop (Ram Question)

    Here is a RAM question. The Laptop had 2 one Gigabyte SO-DIMMs with them both installed the PC would not boot. the lights would come on but the screen remained black. I thought it was a RAM problem since when I would only put in a single stick of RAM the computer Booted no problem. I figured the one ram was BAD. Yet when i bought a 2GB SO-DIMM and added it to the 1GB already inside the computer wouldn't boot just like before. so I removed both rams and Put the 2GB stick in where the other was working and It shows 2GB now. I Know the Laptop maxes out at 4GB of RAM with a 64bit version of Windows installed. Is it possible to find a 4GB SO-DIMM and put it into the Slot that works or will it only accept a maximum of 2GB per Slot?
    Laptop Details
    AT newegg.ca they have a Single SO-DIMM that is 4GB the Laptop Max is 4GB. Not sure if it would read 4GB coming from a single SO-DIMM

    Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion dv9629ca Notebook Computer and here is the HP Pavilion dv9500, dv9600, and dv9700 Entertainment PC - Maintenance and Service Guide for your computer. Both pieces of information indicate that 4GB (2 X 2GB) is the maximum. 2GB is the largest size supported in each slot.
    You may wish to clean the slots or reseat the memory... you may also want to inspect the slots for debris or bent contacts.
