Laptop sattelite R840 dvd 2 SSD caddy

I'm trying to add second hdd, in place of dvd by using ssd caddy, but I can't take the dvd out from the laptop. I followed on-line instructions...
In every video or instruction this is very simple procedure, remove the screw which holds DVD and voila the dvd just slides out like a magic, yet, for me, it behaves like being glued to something inside.
I removed the screw that suppose to hold it in place, HDD to be able to push it from the back of DVD, use plastic card to check for any obstacle and to relax pressure from armor, relax all screws....nothing.
Anyone with success story, before I start taking it apart to brake something?
Looks like this R840 is very special.
Thanks

hi pneumokok,
Welcome to the Forums.
From page 103 of the G580 HMM, the ODD is a 12.7mm so a 12.7mm HDD caddy should do the trick.
 - Sample item
As for the SSD, most users I've seen uses a 2.5" Samsung SSD so it'll be best if you go with this brand too for best cmopatibility.

  • Satellite U845W-S400 - how to open-up the laptop to put in a SSD

    Hello everyone,
I would like to know how to open-up the laptop to put in a SSD.
It has 6 screws on the bottom and I assume some under the keyboard.
I do need a guide however to know for sure where they are before I start prying things open and might even damage it.
Any help would be really appriciated since i could not find any on the web.
    Kind regards,
    Robin

First of all thank you both for your reply's.
My friend bought the laptop in the USA and the salesman also sold him an SSD. So far so good, i can understand the point of view and advantages to the original HDD that it holds at the moment.
As far as warranty concerned it is of no problem and i am aware of the possible consequences. This is not the first notebook i have opened up and the minilaptops and such sort are indeed a bit tricky. Usually there are screws concealed underneath the keyboard.
Just unscrewing the ones on the bottom does not release the bottom cover. Prying the keyboard loose is possible but i have got patience and i would like to know if someone has the exact answer :) Dont want to risk damaging it.

  • Can I replace DVD with SSD drive on Satellite P?

    Hi everyone !
I would like to know if I can replace DVD by caddy's SSD ?
If I do it about that, Do I loose my warranty ?
    Thanks.

I dont know what notebook model you have but in most cases such replacement (ODD ? SSD) would work in case the notebook would support the slim-select bay.
This was the case in older Tecra and Portege notebooks
I guess Satellite notebooks dont support such upgrade but this is just an assumption..
    Warranty?
Well, if you would disasemble the notebook, the warranty will be canceled

  • Can I upgrade my HP ENVY 14 DR DRE Laptop to a blueray and SSD drive?

    HI all,
Can I upgrade my HP ENVY 14 DR DRE Laptop to a blue ray and SSD drive?
    cheers

You can upgrade from HDD to SSD drive, but will not recommend it as it will void the warranty on the unit.
Pertaining to  bluray drive, you might have some compatibility issues unless you find the right model.

  • Pavilion Laptop dv6-1230 DVD CD RW drive dead.

In lieu of shipping the computer to HP for warranty repair, Is it possible to get a warranty replacement from HP and swap it out myself.  It would certainly be less costly to HP to just send me a new drive.
I'm have tech skills, but no experience with laptop repairs.  Is DVD drive replacement an easy task on this product?
How do I apply to HP for a replacement drive, i.e.. what documentation or testing info might they require?  The drive is:   Optiarc DVD RW AD-7561s
    Thank you for your advice.

  • How do I install OSXLeopard on my laptop - no working DVD drive?

I have an intel Mac with trashed DVD drive. I haven't used it in three years but it works with an external monitor. So I'm putting it to work alongside the replacmene laptop I received from the insurance money post auto accident. I want to upgrade the laptop using my Snow Leopard DVD and I'm not sure how to upgrade the current 10.5.8 to 10.6 using the Snow Leopard DVD I own. It's not a big deal if I lose all the user data on it but I'd love to keep it if possible. How do I accomplish this upgrade?
    thanks in adVAnce

just boot the Snow Leopard DVD and install. It will upgrade an existing system automatically.
How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
    Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
Wait for installer to finish loading.
    E. If updating:
    Download and install update(s)
    Use Software Update, or
    Download standalone updater(s).

  • HP mini 110- 3500 laptop fails to boot after SSD upgrade

    Hello,
I recently bought a "crucial 250gb 2.5 " SSD and 2gb RAM (also by crucial), to upgrade my HP mini 110-3500 laptop, which was exceedingly slow. But unfortunately, the laptop has refused to boot when powered on. What can I do? I am very worried.
    Enkay1

You answered. That is what I thought. You have DDR3L-1600 low voltage 1.35 volts. Low voltage will run at the higher voltage (1.5 volts) but it is just not the ideal memory for the older hardware. You need DDR3-1333 memory as HP specified for the laptop. You can confirm or refute my diagnosis by putting in the old memory and see if she boots.  This is the part mumber you need: 621567-001 http://www.ebay.com/itm/2GB-COMPAT-TO-621567-001-A3803335-A4100445-A4427375-/230655741975?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b4275017  Does your memory have 8 black blocks on the side or just 4? You want 8. Also if you have Windows 7 Starter you cannot use 2 gigs of RAM. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

  • Building a custom laptop for PE11, what size SSD should I get?

This will be a two drive laptop so one will be the SSD with the OS and the other a 750 gig drive. Any reason to go bigger than 128 gig on the SSD?
    Thanks,
    Tom

I don't use SSD, but my "platter" boot drive currently has 70Gig used... for Win7 64bit Pro and CS5 Master Collection and MS Office Pro and various small utility programs and all non-video files
I have my Windows swap/paging file directed to another drive, as well as Premiere temp files and all video files

  • Laptop Dual Drive configuration with SSD

I would like to get an opinion on what configuration would give me the best performance on my laptop.
I have a Dell Studio 17.  It has two drive bays.  Quad core processor, and 8 gig of ram.
I am going to re-install the OS (Win 7 Ultimate).
I will have two hard drives.  One, a 250gig Kingston Solid State Drive.  Two, a Seagate 750gig 7200rpm w/16meg cache.
I am thinking of using the 250gig for the OS, and 750 for data.
So here is my question, would I install CS5 on the C (solid state) drive since it is faster?  and where would the best place to put media and scratch files be?
I can put it all on C being that it is a solid state drive and much faster, but then I am only using one drive controller.  Or, should I split it up and utilize both drive controllers.  Of course, I suppose that Dell only used one drive controller for both drives in which it's a mute point.  But I don't know this for sure.
Anyway, open to any opinions.  Including installing the OS on  the larger slower drive, maybe using some partitions, leaving the 250 gig Solid State as the CS5 drive.
    Thanks

I did some benchmarks using PerformanceTest 7.0
What is interesting to me is that I had partitioned my 2nd drive to put my CS5 projects on.  Scratch is on C.
The B drive, and D drive is the same drive, just two different partitions.  I don't know why, but the B partision is slower than the D partition.
B is 112gig with 50gig free, and D is 340gig with 65gig free.  But being the same physical drive, I would think they would have the same performance.
Anyway, also included in the benchmark is drive M, which is my external drive connected both as a USB drive, and an ESATA drive.
The ESATA benchmark is pretty good, beating the B drive in all tests, and close to the D drive.
Of course the SSD drive beats them all in all tests.
Can't wait for these to come in a terabyte at affordable prices.  !!

  • Installing Elements on a laptop with no DVD drive

I have been given Elements 11 on DVD but the new laptop it is destined for has no DVD drive. How can I install it?

Note that the user in the topic linked to by Michel failed to get PSE11. He encountered an authorization error which is typical of NOT following the 'Very Important Instructions' step by step (authorization errors typically because of not following steps 0 and/or 2). They do work but you must read and follow the instructions properly - every step.

  • Tecra R840 installing mSata SSD in position of 3G module

    Hello,
i have a Tecra R840-110 model, there is also 3G module inside, i would like to install the mSata SSD in the pcie slot.
Is possible to use the mSata SSD in the pcie slot instead of 3G module?
    Thank you for your help!

I think something like this is not possible. Mainboard ports are not some kind of flexible ports.
In the past Toshiba has offered second HDD upgrade in place of optical disc drive using special adapter.

  • Are Mac laptops with CD/DVD drives still on the market?

Specifically, I was wondering if these older models are available through the Apple Store, and if not, where I might purchase one?...alternatively, is it possible to get an external CD/DVD drive to go with any Mac laptop?...I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada...

  • Macbook 13' non-retina ssd & caddy ?

I'm making my first mac purchase this weekend and I have a few questions.  I'm a long time PC user and this will be my 2nd apple product (iphone 5s).  I'm getting the 13' MacBook Pro (non-retina).  I would get the retina if it was able to upgrade ram and ssd. I plan to upgrade both within the first week of purchase.
My question is can I load Windows 7 and latest Mac OS on the ssd(250gb) drive and simply use the 500gb hdd for storage? I'd want to have both OS on the ssd to make the boot process and other tasks as quick as possible correct? I've also seen that theres 2 programs for dual boot (bootcamp or parallels). Which is better and why are they different?
Also I've noticed hard drive caddys on amazon which seems like a neat way to nest the other HDD (and I don't really see a use for CD/DVD anymore).  Does anyone have experiance with this and how was it? Would I install the SSD directly to the macbook and have the HDD in the optical?
    Thanks for the help!

    Rob24g,
yes, you can load the latest OS X and Windows 7 on the SSD and use the HDD for storage, and it would be best to have both OS X and Windows 7 on the SSD. Boot Camp is best used when you only need access to one or the other OS at a time; neither OS is emulated, so you get full performance in both of them. Parallels Desktop or VirtualBox (or other virtualizers) is best used when you need simultaneous access to both OS X and Windows. Performance can take a hit for Windows in the virtualizer, and it requires a certain amount of RAM dedicated solely to the virtualizer, which might in turn affect OS X.
Many people have chosen to replace their SuperDrives with a second disk — I’m not one of them, though. Having the HDD in the optical bay would be best. One caveat is that SATA III drives (6.0 Gb/s burst mode) do not perform well in the optical bay; you would be best served by having a SATA II drive (3.0 Gb/s burst mode) there.
