Laptop screen is Black! PLZ Help

Hi All.  Happy Holidays!
I am not too computer savvy but I try!!   All of a sudden my notebook screen is blank.  My computer is charged fully.  I can turn it on and I hear it turn on and WINDOWS boot up but my screen is blank and black.  There is no life on it at all.
Any suggestions??
THX!

Hi,
Try a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for a full minute.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and see if the notebook will start.
If the above doesn't help the issue, try connecting the notebook to an external display and see if you now get a video output.

  • My laptop screen goes black when i plug in an Hdmi cord

Initially I had both my tv and computer off. I connected the dvi to the tv and the hdmi to the laptop and turned them both on. I had no issue using my laptop as i tried to sync the computer to the TV. However i must have accidentally hit something in the graphics options as my laptop screen went black. I unplugged the hdmi cord from my laptop and the screen came back up. But now for some reason everytime i plug in the hdmi cord to the laptop the screen goes black. When i take it out it the screen comes back up. Did i change something that is causing this to happen? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have pretty much the same exact problem and setup as DaveA1.  I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop C55T-A5123 which I just purchased a few months ago and when I connect my laptop to my SONY TV via the HDMI cable the screen on my laptop goes black and the TV says no signal.  It was working just fine up until about a week ago when I was watching a movie through my VLC player and then the screen flickered a couple times then video went completely out and I've never been able to get it to come back even once.
Here's the specs on my laptop:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114907
So far I have tried on two different TVs, swapped HDMI cables which work on my other HDMI devices, system restore and attempted to update various different drivers.  I am curious to find out if Dave was able to find a solution to his problem.

  • Laptop screen goes black when HDMI connected to TV

I have a Thinkpad Edge 431. I've set it up in Control Panel to duplicate both the laptop and the external monitor when connected by HDMI. It works fine.
When I connect it to my TV, the laptop screen black. The TV displays "No Signal" until the HDMI connection is made. When the laptop screen goes black, so does the TV screen. No sound or picture.
This was working fine until recently, and I can't figure out if I somehow changed settings to make this happen. It's clear that to me that the HDMI port on the laptop works, as does the cable.
The TV port works (I've switched the connection on the cable box to each HDMI port on the TV, to make sure they work).
I can't change anything in Control Panel when I connect the HDMI, because the screen is black.
    I've updated the Lenovo system.
The other relevant piece of info: the Intel Graphics Card control panel says that Monitor/TV Settings are not supported (although until recently, I could easily display the computer on the TV).
Can anyone help with this? Thanks!

No video and audio signals to the tv connected

  • [SOLVED] Connecting extra Monitor, laptop screen goes black.

Whenever i connect a additional monitor through HDMI (my only output), the laptop screen goes black. If i do FN + external_monitor switch, then the laptop screen turns on but the external monitor turns off.
If you move the mouse you can feel that the desktop has been extended as i wanted, it is just that one of the screens keeps going black. The gnome display settings show both screens as active, the menu is so minimalistic that there is not much to do.

    The problem is now fixed,
For some weird reason, this time the gnome settings did work. Must have been some sort of rare bug that now i cannot reproduce.

  • My Mac laptop screen is black but everything else is on

My Mac laptop screen is black but everything else is on.

    Hey Cdronet14,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with your iPhone 5. I see that you have already attempted a reset of the device. To isolate the issue further and determine if it is hardware related, the next step would be to backup and restore your device as new:
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
After erasing and setting up as a new device, your device is now in a factory configuration. Test to determine if erasing and setting up as a new device resolved the issue. Content on the device may have caused unexpected behavior.
If the issue is still present, you may want to contact Apple Support.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Narcoleptic laptop - screen goes black while working

    Hi ho,
About a week ago my mac started acting strange. I'll be working and the screen will just go black. (it just did it again! Sometimes if I'm listening to music on my mac, the music will stop, so it's not just the screen going black, it's like the computer goes to sleep out of the blue.
I was trying out bittorent for the first time and I'm wondering it it's related to that, if there is something I don't know coming on to my computer from the internet, please advise. I took bittorent off and it'll still appear. A window from Opera will open, so I took Opera off my computer in case there is something downloading. I never use Opera, so I don't know why it keeps coming up.
When it goes black, sometimes if I click the power button, I'll hear the disk repower up and the screen will go on, but it isn't all the time. Once I get it started again, it may be a few minutes and it'ss do it again without warning, or it could be 10 seconds. There's no rhyme or reason.
Another thing I notice is that the laptop will get hot, and I'm wondering if it's an emergency mechanism if the computer is getting too hot.
Please help, of course, I'm dead without being able to use my computer! And this is totally messing with my productivity!

Hi, madamep. A properly-functioning Powerbook should put itself to sleep (not shut down entirely) before it gets hot enough to do real damage to itself. That may be what's happening with yours, as you say it seems to be getting pretty hot.
I suggest opening Activity Monitor and seeing whether something is using a lot of CPU cycles a lot of the time, thus generating extra heat. If you find that something is, and it's something you recognize and can comfortably turn off, do so. Then see whether the unexpected-sleep problem diminishes or disappears. If there's nothing drawing heavily on your processor, are you using the Powerbook on a soft surface (bed, sofa, lap, etc.) that's inhibiting airflow around the PB's shell and through its cooling vents? If so, don't: it needs unobstructed airflow all around it, including underneath — that's why it has little rubber feet, to keep it elevated slightly above your table- or desktop. Always use it on a hard, flat surface, and if the feet have come off it, replace them with something that will provide airspace under the PB at all times. Also check to make sure the vents haven't become clogged with dust or fuzz: use canned compressed air or a household vacuum cleaner (not the brush attachment — that can generate a lot of static electricity that's dangerous to electronics) to clean the vents from the outside.

  • Laptop screen remains black (off) when I turn on the computer

    Hello,
Today I came home and turned on my laptop as usual except this time the screen remained black. I can hear the fan running and then the usual windows chime at start up, but nothing to view. The HP logo at the back still lights up though. Just the actual screen remains completely black like it is off. I tried connecting it to my tv via HDMI and to an external monitor but there's no signal. I also tried doing a hard reset which I read about here but that did nothing.  I feel as though it's just the monitor won't turn on but everything else might be fine.

  • Laptop screen went black

I was in the middle of working on a document when my laptop screen went white and then went black. The fan started getting really loud. The caps light would still work but I could not get the screen to come back on again. After shutting it down, now anytime I turn it on, the fan is really loud and the screen is black.
    A. Is my hard drive completely gone?
    B. Will I be able to get documents from my hard drive if I boot it up in Target mode or by using an external monitor?

    Hi Artassassin,
It's difficult to determine the exact problem from the description you give, but most likely, your HD is fine.
I assume you've simply tried the 'brightness' buttons on the keyboard, to make sure the screen's just not turned off?
Assuming it's not that easy: It sounds like you're on the right track. Try using an external monitor first, and if that doesn't work, then try starting up in Target Disk Mode, to save your data. Do you have access to other macs? If so, while in Target Disk Mode, run Disk Utility and see if there are problems with the hd.

  • [SOLVED] Laptop screen blank (black)

    Hey there
I left my laptop (dell vostro 1520) for about half an hour running on my desk. After coming back, the screen was black and could not be turned on again. The screen is still black after several reboots. I cannot even see the bios loading screen at the very beginning. One could think now that my screen is broken... but when the udev hook is triggered on boot, the screen flashes up for about 1 second. The same happens when I change the screen resolution. My external screen is still working, although the resolution is messed up after each reboot.
    Any advice on this?

Try this:  Take a flashlight (torch?) and illuminate the screen at an angle to the screen and see if you can see any picture on the display where it is illuminated.  You may need to move your head and/or the light to eliminate glare.  If you can see a picture, you have a failed backlight.  If your display uses CCFL tubes (as opposed to LEDS) then I would bet a beer you have a bad inverter.
Take a look and let us know.  If you can see something, you might try hooking up an external monitor and using the light to allow you to see well enough to get to the point where you can enable the external display.

    {color:#000080}I don't know whether that's the only thing wrong here, but I see 3 calls to getGraphics(). The documentation for javax.microedition.lcdui.game.GameCanvas.getGraphics() says:{color}
A new Graphics object is created and returned each time this method is called; therefore, the needed Graphics object(s) should be obtained before the game starts then re-used while the game is running.
{color:#000080}-- Your call to getGraphics() in updateScreen(Graphics g) will return the reference to the local variable represented by the parameter g, which will be out of scope as soon as the method returns.
-- Your call to getGraphics() in animateSelectedItem() assigns the reference to a newly declared local variable, which too will be out of scope when the method returns. (But this method includes flushGraphics() so just possibly this g is flushed to the display.)

  • HT201177 I get a chime and white screen, but after a few minutes the screen goes black. Help!

I came out to a black computer screen. I can see the mouse arrow but otherwise nothing. I disconnected the computer and tried turning it back on. It starts up like usual but bar going across under the apple freezes and the screen goes black. I can hear the computer running. Help!

That's just the iPod's backlight timer going off, signaling the iPod's backlight to turn off to conserve battery power.

  • Screen still black. Help please.

Hi there. I bought an iMac yesterday, but after a few hours playing around with it, the screen went black like it was going to sleep. I tried waking it up, but nothing happened. I unplugged it and tried restarting it, but the startup sound played and the screen was still black. After about an hour, it went back to normal, but then five minutes later, BAM. It happened again. I went to bed and left it, and when I woke up, it seemed fine. But after ten minutes, it's gone again. It seems to happen whenever I'm on YouTube or playing videos in Quicktime, so is there a way to prevent this crashing in the future?

If you purchased it directly from Apple take it back to the Apple Store you purchased it from. If you purchased it from another retailer return it for exchange from them. Otherwise you will need to contact AppleCare (number is in your owners manual), obviously this should not be occurring on a new machine. AppleCare is open M-Saturday during normal business hours.

  • My phone got wet and screen is black, please help?!!

My phone got wet and the screen turned black after a while, it is still on because I receive phone calls and can answer them by swiping the screen where I know to swipe. The phone rings and I can even have a conversation on it. The screen is black however, I cant see anything else or do anything else. I'm going to take the phone to apple tomorrow to see if its repairable. Any suggestions??? Its a 4s, have it for about 4-5 months...

    Try resetting the phone:
Press the Sleep/Wake button & Home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release.
