  • My Satellite laptop (A305) shuts down when run on the AC charger/adapter

The problem is that my Toshiba _A300 series laptop (A305) shuts down when you try to run it on the AC charger/adapter_. You can boot it with the power cord plugged in and it will get to Windows Desktop and maybe a few minutes more at most before shutting off.
It will boot and _run from battery without problem_, but if you plug in the AC while it is up and running on battery the machine will normally click off instantly and reboot to the message "Windows was not shut down correctly."
The _AC adapter works fine_ reading a steady 19.19 to 19.20 volts with a voltmeter. It also _charges the battery fine when the computer is off_. I have two Toshiba brand batteries and they both work fine.
One interesting thing is that the _computer runs fine on AC when in safe mode_.
I _did a reformat/factory restore_ of Vista to assure it was not software and drivers, and still got the same problem before any external devices had been plugged in.
It has the latest BIOS and I tried resetting it to default values in case anything had gotten changed. It made no difference.
This is _not a heating issue_ because _while it is run on battery I can watch long videos_ without it shutting off. I ran compressed air through the vents just to make sure, but it makes no difference in behavior. Usually with an overheating shut-off, the computer cannot be started until it has cooled some, but these shutdowns are accompanied by an instant reboot.
I have seen on some threads that this type of problem one can work around by disabling one of the processors in Device Manager, but I don't think that is much of a lasting solution or good for the computer.
Has anyone seen this problem before and have you come with a full diagnosis of the problem and a real solution?

I have Satellite A300 and until now everything works OK.
I would like to know what happen when you remove the battery and use notebook with power supply only. Does notebook shuts down again.
If not let OS run and put the battery.
Is the battery recognized properly? Does notebook switch off again?
To be honest I cannot imagine this issue has something with software or background processes. Recovery image you got with your notebook is designed for this certain notebook mode. Recovery image is tested and I dont think preinstalled OS has anything to do with this.
    Full diagnosis?
And how to do this? You know very well that diagnosis can be done with diagnostic tools only and such tools have services only. I hope you will find answers but Im 99% sure there is nothing you can do about that. Maybe you should contact service, explain the situation and ask for help.

    Hello All,
I have a 15" i7 Macbook Pro from early 2011. The past few weeks, it has been getting increasingly difficult to get on my computer. It takes the mac laptop two or three tries to boot successfully. It would turn on, show gray screen, shut down, turn on again, show gray screen, shutdown, and then turn on, show gray screen, before it can finally get to the dark gray log-in screen. Even when I finally get logged in to start working, thinking it would be okay now, it shuts down randomly.
I've ruled out the possibility of a software problem because I've just done a clean re-install of Mac OS X Mavericks on my computer just yesterday.
I did upgrade the RAM recently, about a month and a half ago, from 4GB to 16GB, I went to the apple store four days after that upgrade to have them do a hardware test, and clean the inside of my laptop, which helped with previous heat issues. When they did the hardware test, the hardware was all registered as fine from their system.
I've tried resetting the SMC, PRAM, and doing the internet recovery hardware test, but to no avail. I thought I could at least find out what parts needed to be replaced from the hardware test but it seems that when the hardware test is almost finished, the computer just shuts down, So I am unable to see the results.
My computer is also having battery issues, under battery condition, it says "replace now," parts have been ordered, waiting for arrival. But if the battery health is low, it should still boot up fine, it would just hold a significantly less charge.
Could this be a hard drive issue?
Has anyone had similar symptoms and how was it resolved?
Does anyone know what I can do to alleviate this issue?
I haven't had time to take it to Apple because I'm currently taking a 21 credit semester academically. I'm an art and design student so my computer is basically the bane of my existence. Help! Any constructive advice is welcomed!
Thank you so much for your input!
    -Christina C.

  • L412 Laptop - continuously shutting down

I have a Lenovo L412 laptop from my company, which has sporadically been shutting down at random.  For the past few months, it was occurring every 2 or 3 days, 1 time.  But today, it shut down and I've been unable to get it to stay logged in enough to even open a file!  As soon as the system logs in, it simply shuts down - completely.
I am running this on a wood laptop stand with air vents.  I'm also using the power cord continuously because the battery has about 15 minutes of capacity.
When the problem first occurred, I gave it to my tech guys and they re-imaged my machine (losing much of my locally stored documents).  It did nothing to fix the problem.
I put a call in to them again and they require a ticket to fix the problem, which I'm unable to create since I cannot get into the system.  I'm writing this on my home Mac - which never has problems like my work PC.
Any suggestions on things I could try to get this working?  I can't afford a day of them munking with it and giving it back with the same issue.
    Thanks
    JNew

I have the exact same problem with my Lenovo L412.
Random crash.. dust in the fan.. how can I remove the dust ? is there a Youtube video about that ?
    Thank you.

  • Firefox closes when I shut down, but when it is running, I can't see it on the monitor or find it in the Task Manager.

When I open Firefox, nothing seems to happen. It doesn't appear on the monitor and the Task Manager doesn't list it as running. But when I shut down the computer, Firefox must be closed before shut down can be completed.

The "System Tray" is located at the very bottom right of your screen and is a list of most/all running applications that will show in this list.
For your SysFader issue, this "may" be the problem:
1 Find the "My Computer" desktop icon and right-click it. A pull-down menu will appear. Select "Properties."
2 Click on the "Advanced" tab. This will load a new page of options.
3 Select the "Visual Effects" tab at the top of the window and deselect "Animate Windows when minimizing and maximizing," "Fade or slide menus into view," "Fade or slide Tool Tips into view" and "Fade out Menu items after checking."
4 Click "OK." This will remove most if not all of the Sysfader effects, at the same time correcting related errors that used to come up during opening a new file or program.

  • My iMovie is skipping like crazy when I try to edit and then goes to a black screen and you can only hear the audio!?!? What's happening??

I use iMovie almost everyday for Youtube videos. I have nothing in my imovie except the 5 clips that I'm editing now. I have all my media on an external hard drive and delete everything after I'm done with ( I empty all trash cans). My iMovie is now skipping when I try to edit and then the clips just go to a black screen and I can only hear the audio, this has been going on for a week and I don't know what to do?!? Any help?

Try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If that doesn't help, try Resetting the System Management Controller

  • When playing music in itunes, music stops when screen shuts down

I am using Windows Vista, when the screen shuts down for power saving. The song playing will continue, but the next one will not begin. This is when I am just playing music through itunes on computer. Can anyone help?
    Many thanks

    Hello TheDonsCheek,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with the audio when nothing is playing in iTunes on your MacBook Pro. I recommend reviewing the following article to see if any third-party plug-ins could be causing the problem:

  • Laptop is shutting down for no reason

I've been having this problem where my Toshiba Satellite M205-S4806 laptop just shuts off for some unknown reason.
Windows Vista is not telling the laptop to shut down, the laptop just dies on it's own.
I have done some reading online and it seems to be a common problem where dust gets clogged up in the laptop's fan which causes the machine to shut immediately shut off to prevent damage to the processor.
I'm not sure if this is my exact problem because sometimes I have have the laptop on for hours and it will eventually shut down, other times I will only have it on for 5 minutes and it just shuts off.
I have already reformatted my machine several times so any other ideas on how to solve this issue before I have to take apart this laptop to clean it?
    -Aaron

For all models identified, ensure sufficient air flow is occurring and the fan/exhaust unit are cleaned, helps with the overheating issue.  Check your power supply unit, if it is way too hot to the touch feasible it is time for replacement.  Also, check the quality surge protector you are using for its operation, indicator light is not blinking-just steady light.  Check your START/SEARCH type in eventvwr, locate systems log and open same and locate any erorr[s] listed and open same to learn what the problem was.  Remove the battery and see if the condition continues.

  • When using Siri, screen shut down

While i'm using Siri on my iPhone 5 running iOS 6.0.2, sometimes the screen shuts down and then it returns back.
while the screen is off using Siri, it listens to me perfectly but the screen its off and you can see nothing.
it's an iPhone 5 software problem :S and i've noticed that this problem also happens on iPhone 5 running iOS 6.0.1

If you are a developer using beta software, you should be posting in the Developer Forums to which you have access. Discussions of beta software are not permitted in the regular forums.
    Best of luck.

  • Satellite A300-114 - Won't reinitate after screen shuts down

    Hello.
I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-114 running with Windows Vista Home Premium.
It was working fine until two weeks ago, now, after some time of inactivity, the screen shuts down and it won't turn on agian. The Hard drive light blips but the Screen stays black. This is becoming more often.
Does anybody have any ideia what the problem is?
    Thanks :)

Sorry, I'll try to write with a more correct english.
My problem was, when I leave my laptop alone, the display shutts off, the hard drive light under the touchpad keeps bleeping, but what ever I do the system doesn't "come back". I have to hard boot the computer.
Now, i've tried with different power settings, and the same happens, and I also found out that when i have the "Turn off the display" set for never, the computer also starts working after leaving it alone for a while.
I'm also not able to shut down the computer, I get the blue screen and the message "Closing" and nothing happens

(I synced my iphone to my computer if that helps at all).

Yes, and, I try to restore. I have the T-Mobile sim card in it just to clarify. It will not let me get passed that, it does not accept the t-mobile sim card. i tried restoring it using wifi, cellular, and i cant get i tunes. I am scared that if i take the tmobile sim card out and put the at&t one in just to complete the restoration process that the iphone will lock again and not read the tmobile sim card, then all my hard work has gone for nothing. ( this whole process was caused by me trying wanting to empty my pictures onto my computer because i did not have any storage space left). <--- that may not be as important, but i included it just because.

  • My iTunes wont close and is preventing my laptop from shutting down

I plugged out my iPod touch when iTunes was asking me whether I wanted an update or not, and now iTunes wont close and has frozen, preventing my laptop from shutting down. I have intel Celeron inside and Windows 7.

Mail is open but it is frozen, being this the reason why you cannot open the Mail window. Press Alt, Command and Esc keys or go to  > Force Quit, select Mail and force quit it. Finally, you will be able to turn off or restart the MacBook
