Laptop slow to get connection

I just installed the wrt110 and was having problems with losing my connection when i was on my cordless.. i changed my channel to 11 and it seems to be working better.
My problem now is that my laptop is taking forever to connect to the router each time it shuts down or hibernates...it will show that it has limited access for about 2-3 minutes while it is trying to connect... any suggestions on how to get connection quicker to my laptop... once i am on the speed seems good, it's just getting on that is taking a while...please be very specific, this is my 1st time installing a router, a friend has helped me in the past, but i wanted to see if i could do it on my own this time..
thanks

You can try to turn Off the power scheme or hibernation option on computer .

You do realize, even if you get it to connect, you can't sync one iPad to two different computers right?
Beyond that, iPads connect to computers running the latest iTunes. So if your laptop doesn't have iTunes, install it and try again. Also, try different USB ports. Your laptop is likely missing the Apple Device driver. You need to plug into different USB ports to trigger its auto install, or google how to install it.

  • Domained laptop - slow logon when connected to non-domain network

    Hi,
I'm looking for ideas on how to solve or workaround this issue, so any help would be appreciated.  Please note that this doesn't appear to be the usual type of "slow login" problem - in fact I'm pretty certain the issue is caused by public DNS
servers which return placeholder IP addresses for unknown domains, rather than correctly reporting them as being unknown, which is making XP "hang up" looking for servers which don't really exist.  Either way, it's causing a lot of problems for our remote
    users.
The scenario is this.  When domain-member laptops are not on the domain network, they can take anywhere between 5-30 minutes to login.  This issue only occurs when the network they're connected to presents DNS servers which resolve unknown DNS
hosts/domains to "placeholder" sites.  Whilst Windows 7 laptops do also seem to suffer from this, login delays on those are at worst a couple of minutes, whereas the Windows XP machines are affected for much longer.
Maybe a bit more info will make it clearer :)
The AD namespace shares the external domain, and there are public DNS records for the external domain, but obviously not for internal hosts (like DCs).  So internally, the FQDNs of the domain controllers are "DC1.company.com", "DC2.company.com" etc.
When the laptop is connected to users home network, users can logon quickly (<30 seconds), as long as the DNS server offered by DHCP on that network doesn't return an IP for hosts/domains which don't exist publicly.  If they do, login takes 5-30 minutes.
I've confirmed this by doing a lookup of the domain on the affected networks to ascertain which DNS servers return placeholder IPs rather than reporting that name resolution isn't possible.  For example, OpenDNS's servers (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220)
return placeholders, Google's (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) don't.  Using OpenDNS to lookup "dc1.company.com" returns their placeholder IP of 67.215.65.132, using Google's returns "can't find dc1.company.com: Non-existent domain".  OpenDNS is being used
as an example, increasingly ISP's seem to be using redirection, we're getting this issue with BT and Virgin Media networks, plus a couple of others.
So, if I manually set DNS on a laptop to use Google's servers, then connect it to one of the affected networks, login is virtually instantaneous.  I remove the manually configured DNS servers and allow DHCP to present the ISP's own servers, login is
    seriously delayed.
From this I can only assume that the fact that the names are resolving at all is causing the delay.  I've removed possibly contributory factors from the equation, such as roaming profiles, redirected folders, mapped drives, group policy etc which the
workstation might be trying to access and causing a delay, as well as checking that fast logon optimization is active.
At the moment we're having to tell users to not connect to the network until after they've logged in, which you'd think wouldn't be that big a deal but you know what users are like :)
I appreciate this issue really seems due to bad practice by ISPs rather than with Windows itself, but we really need a fix we can apply ourselves.  Reconfiguring users' home networks really isn't an option, there's too many of them, plus that wouldn't
solve the problem when they're using other networks (hotels etc).  I don't think setting "good" DNS servers manually is an option, certainly I can't think of a way that would still work when they're connected to our internal LAN.
I'm thinking there must be some way we can set a timeout or something on the workstations so they don't spend so long trying to communicate with what they think are domain servers, but dispite much searching, I've been unable to find anything that works.
So, any help would be gratefully recieved.
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply Martin, unfortunately it didn't help matters, but after pondering for a while (and eventually kicking myself for missing something so obvious) I did come up with a solution.
Basically, just set up public DNS A records for the internal servers and point them to 127.0.0.1 (setting up a wildcard DNS entry for the domain also pointing to 127.0.0.1 would do the same thing).
Sure enough logon now takes about 5 seconds, even on the Windows 7 machines (which were only taking a minute or so anyway).
Loopback is the best place to point these to,  Pointing them to a public server didn't work, and pointing them at a non routeable private IP didn't work either.
To help anyone else confirming this is also the cause of their slow logon issue - when all three conditions are met it's time to mess with your public DNS!
The FQDN of the domain is public (company.co.uk) and not local (company.local).
The DNS servers in use on the network (or the ISP's DNS servers to which DNS requests are forwarded) return placeholder IPs for unknown host addresses, rather than a "non-existent domain or host" error.  This can be confirmed by pinging (or doing an
nslookup) on the affected machine, for a host for which no public DNS record exists (ie ping wibble.microsoft.com) - if an IP address is returned then the DNS servers in use are resolving unknown hosts/domains to a placeholder IP.
If you allow the machine to login on the external network, then run a
ipconfig /displaydns you'll see entries for attempts to resolve internal servers themselves, plus lookups relating to the AD domain such as
_msdcs.gc._tcp._ldap.internaldomain.co.uk and such - these shouldn't be there off-domain, and I believe they indicate the machine thinks it's on the domain, even though it isn't.
Hope this helps someone else out.

Hi.. My internet and wifi are working on samsung phone and hp laptop but its not getting connected to iphone ipad, only skype is coming online rest all apps and safari show no internet connection. Got new linksys router WRT160NL , but situation same. Tried reboot, renew lease, forget network, reset network setting. Pls advice

Have you tried a simple reset of your iPod to see if that helps?  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Otherwise, have you tried any of the troubleshooting mentioned in this Apple support document?

Windows drivers for Intel wireless cards are known problematic.. If you have plenty of signal and it still cannot keep or hold the connection the issue can simply be the type of wireless.
Another problem is using names that windows does not easily handle.
eg If you set the TC using apple names, like
Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule wireless24ad12
Then to windows this is too long.. it has spaces and it has illegal character.
Change all names on the TC to suit windows. Short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Also security must be suitable.. I have no idea how old or what OS your dell is, but if you still have issues.. pull off the security on the TC for a test.. if the computer suddenly works, it is not compatible with WPA2 AES. Make sure you also use a password that is mix upper and lower case plus numbers.. avoid special characters and make it 10-20 characters long say.. it is not required to be more than that unless you are paranoid.

  • For a LAN network in my office, all laptops are Windows based and the internet is through LAN and other computer get connected with adhoc without the router. My Apple computer nor my iPhone 5 get connected. How do I connect to this Internet?

In the office, All my colleges use Windows laptops. The Internet connection is out of LAN wire installed in one of the computers. Others use Internet by creating adhoc connection. However none of the apple products are being able to connect to this connection. How can i connect my MacBook Pro or iPhone 5 to this Internet network?

Just how is the one computer connecting to the internet? What type of connection does the office have, DSL, Cable or is it a Data connection through a Cell phone provider.
I doubt all other computer are doing Ad-Hoc but are probably Sharing the Internet connection with Internet Connection Sharing from that one Windows base PC.
All you khave to do is Connect to that same WiFi SSID name and have the correct password for it.

  • Ipad wont charge when connected to laptop but charges when connected to wall outlet

ipad wont charge when connected to laptop but charges when connected to wall outlet

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Slowness in the connection attempt

    Hello all!
I have Cisco AP 1200 Series configured with 802.1x with Cisco ACS working integrated with MS Active Directory. Always that I lose connection the Win XP get slowness in the connection attempt. Have somebody here that has adjusted this type of problem?
    Thanks.

So when you loose your connection, however that may be... And then your laptop attempts to associate, it take an abnormal amount of time only on XP and not say on windows2000?
Have you reviewd your ACS Failed attempt logs? Do you possibly have more than one ACS server configured on the AP?

  • I need help setting up a wireless network and getting connected to the internet. I have a RCN cable modem now and tried to install a wireless linksys today and it was a disaster

I have a MAC desktop and RCN cable that I have internet through now. I tried to set up a linksys wireless router today and could not get the network settings right, or figure out how to create the network, or get connected. I was successfull for only a few minutes because my phone and laptop had picked up the signal. However my desktop still would not connect to the internet. I had to restart my cable modem after because even after returning to directly inserting the desktop to the modem I could not get on the internet. I am able to get on now but would like to have wireless for my laptop and phone. Do I have to have an Apple router? Are there any easy steps I can take to set up a network without doing any damage to my desktop? I am so lost and have been getting pop ups and even my time changed.
Please help a new person to Apple!

why dont you go to linksys.com/downloads and get the quick install for your adpter

  • "Get connected" for the dummies please!

    Hello,
I bought this Palm TX more than a year ago and although my numerous efforts, still can't get connected to the internet. Would anybody tell me how to get connected in simple steps please?
    Please note the following:
    - My laptop uses Windows Vista and WiFi enabled
    - I am connected to broadband internet through a normal (not wireless) router
    - I don't have any home networks
    Thank you
    Post relates to: Palm TX

The TX is designed to connect to a wireless network.  Wifi is built into it for this purpose, and is very easy to use!  Wireless routers can be found for around $30 these days.
Since you have no wireless network, you are limited to connecting via BlueTooth through a cell phone, or via the Hotsync cable to your computer.  The latter can be accomplished by purchasing a program called Softick PPP from softick.com.  (You can also use BlueTooth to connect if your computer has BlueTooth built into it.)
I have connected mine through a cellphone and with my wireless network at home, but never via the cable.  It just didn't make sense to me to use my TX when a real computer is 3' away...

  • Just installed a new Airport Exteme.  Set up was no problem however we have  3 IPads and 1 Mac laptop and cannot get all devices to access Internet. Every reset of the airport gives a different combination of devices allowed access. Any ideas as to why?

Just installed a new airpot extreme with a modem to use as a wireless system. Setup was successful however with 3 iPads and one laptop we cannot get all devices access to Internet. Each reset of airport extreme results in a different combination of devices that successfully connect. Any ideas as to why?

    Well, this is interesting,
Let me tell you coulpe of things I noticed:
    - Are you using LEAP as the EAP method? some config examples illustrate configuriong using LEAP with WEP keys. Forget this and use WPA2-AES.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps4570/products_configuration_example09186a00801c40b6.shtml
    - in some AP configurations (AP1 for example) I can see that:
    wlccp authentication-server client any method_Users
This means that the wlccp client authentication will use the method called method_Users. Let us see what is configured with this method:
aaa authentication login method_Users group Users
This shows us that the method method_Users uses the server group named Users.
let us see what is configured withe the group Users:
    aaa group server radius Users
NOTHING!! it is empty!! so when a client tries to connect it will try to autheticate it against the radius server but the radius server group that it needs to check is empty.
so I think you need to either use the correct method under which the server is configured with the wlccp statement. OR you need to configure the method_Users with correct user group that contains a server.
Check and let me know if that works.

    Amjad

  • Broadband light blue, can get connection between d...

ADDED ADSL SETTINGS TO END OF THIS EMAIL
Please Help - getting desperate !!!
I have a BT Home Hub 3 and use wireless connectivity to communicate to the following devices -
    MacBook Pro
    Windows Laptop (used rarely)
    iPad
    Wireless printer
I intermittently experience a problem where, although my broadband light on the Home Hub was blue and I could get connection from my laptop/ipad to the Home Hub (i.e. on the MAC I can see the BT Home Hub on my Airport indicator and its a bona-fidae connection), there was no internet connectivity.  This was an intermittent problem - some days I could surf fine, other days I couldn't get any internet connectivity.  Also it is device agnostic - i.e. when the problem occurs it effects all my devices, when it is not evident all my devices work.
I went through the customer support helpline in september and the intermittent problem could not be solved.  An engineer came out and replaced my Home Hub in September and things seemed to improve until December  when the problem re-occurred and  I was sent another new home Hub 3.  This didn't solve the issue and at present I would say that 2 to 3 days a week I (randomly) get no internet connectivity.
Throughout the course of investigations several things have been tried with the customer support folks  - these include -
Line checks - these confirmed broadband connectivity to the house was mostly fine
frequent resetting of the Home Hub
re-configuration of the Home Hub <-> device channel number. This was done several times and with different 'departments' in BT Support - e.g. once I got connected through to the 'MAC OS' folks who recommended use of channels 5,7 for Macs.
repositioning my devices to make them closer to the Home Hub (no difference as the home hub is very close to where I work in the house anyway)
switching on/off my Plasma TV!! (no difference)
on occasion these things have brought internet connectivity back on-line, but the intermittent problem invariably comes back.
This has become a real pain and its becoming impossible to do any planned work from my home office - any assistance greatly appreciated

    Hi -
not sure why you have moved this into 'Wireless' - I'm not sure its a wireless problem. Can you move it back
    You said
"I have a BT Home Hub 3 and use wireless connectivity to communicate to the following devices -"
There is nothing wrong with your ADSL connection statistics.
Try connecting to the home hub using an Ethernet cable to your computer.
