Laptop stolen and software install disc's as well

Hi, I was burgled does anyone know if apple will supply me with new discs? I purchased an upgrade from 7 and I still have my dongle. Can anyone advise me how to go about this and who/where/how to contact apple to ask.
Thanks Phil

At least you have your serial number, so assuming you can source the media you will be fine.
Same thing happened to me earlier this year, though in my case it was the hardware dongle for Cubase that was stolen. I still have the install disks and the serial number, but without the Syncrosoft license key it is useless. With iLok things would have been ok, but as a result of the dongle policy, the net result is that I would have to buy a new copy of Cubase. Instead I decided to stick with Logc and use it on the shiney new Macbook Pro and iMac that was supplied.
Steinberg's loss, Apple's gain (I replaced Nuendo with Logic last year).
These things are difficult and it's horrible that it happened at all, but with any luck something good will come out of it all in the end.

  • Flashing question mark/software install disc problem

    Hello,
I'm getting the flashing question mark at reboot. I've followed these steps:
    a. Insert the Software Install disc that came with your Mac.
    b. Restart the computer and immediately press and hold the C key to start up from the disc.
    c. When you see the Installer screen, choose Open Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
    d. Select your hard disk volume in the left pane, click the First Aid tab, and then click Repair Disk.
    e. When it's finished, restart your computer.
HOWEVER, when I restart my computer it STILL reads/loads from the install disc (as opposed to just booting from my hard drive). It's like a endless loop I can't get out of. Am I doing something wrong?
    Any suggestions?
    - Davey

  • Vista to XP Driver and Software install N200 0687

Here's a guide I wrote up while I installed XP onto my laptop, it's been used by a few of my friends. It's specifically for the N200 0687 A31 but as a general guide it's best to install drivers and software in chronological order based on the date of the files on the lenovo site.
XP doesn't recognize the hard drive under AHCI so first enter the bios by
pressing F1 at boot and enter the Bios so you can change the SATA
Controller Mode from "AHCI" to "Compatibility". While your there make sure
in the boot order the CDrom is first. Put XP disk in drive and reboot.
Delete the Vista install.(If you want to delete the hidden partition and you're smart you've generated recovery disks in case Vista service packs make it worth reinstalling)
Install XP and Service Pack 2
Read the text file associated with each driver to know how to deal with each extracted
package, and note the directory the files are extracted to. Cancel any "Hardware
Update Wizard" windows that pop up.
    Install in the following order:
65vg09ww.exe         Display (Intel X3100) driver - that looks better.
65sa02ww.exe         AHCI driver - find the three .inf files and right click
and select install. Probably not all are necessary.
Never mind. During any of the many ensuing reboots
you can enter the Bios and change
"Compatibility" back to "AHCI", and the first boot
device back to the hard drive. Towards the end of
this driver installation list ever boot will result in
only one “Hardware Update Wizard” opening. Instead
of canceling it manually direct the Wizard to select
the best driver from the "AHCI" folder where it will
select and install the "Intel(R) 82801HEM/IBM SATA
                                    AHCI Controller"

    > and why can i make the picture light
I dont know what you mean by picture light!!!
If you want to use all Fn keys you will need different tools and utilities.
For example the FN+F3/F4 will not work if the power saver was not installed.
Also the FN+F5 will not work if display device change utility will be not installed.
As you can see, several applications are needed if you want to use the FN keys!!!
But as the above user has suggested already, the XP drivers are not available.
Maybe you can use some appellations designed fro another notebook series but this is only a tiny hope.

  • G5 Software install disc/restore broken

Does anyone know the process of obtaining a new Powermac G5 Software Install and Restore Disc? I was running disc utility today and it said I had tons of problems. So I open the packaging that has my restore disc in it only to find out it shipped with a 1" long crack in it. So well for booting and reparing my drive.
Anyone know the process of getting a replacement. I tried searching on the apple site but nothing.
    Thanks,

Reminds me of the day I bought OS 8.5. I spent two hours round trip from the store only to find that the CD was cracked in half. After another two hour trip back to the store for an exchange I was finally able to install the new OS.
I'm sure if you call AppleCare they will send you a replacement pronto.

  • EMac software install discs on iMac, will it work right?

Hello, I've a couple of G3 iMacs that I've installed OS 10.3.3 on. The discs used are for eMacs (2 sets of discs) they came with universal installers. What I'm wondering is, is the build of OS 10.3.3 specifically for the eMac and the G4 processor or should they work fine with my G3 iMacs? I'ved had issues with older pre os x learning games for kids on these iMacs and am wondering if this could be the problem. I did not install the additional software and apps on disc 2 of the eMac software restore discs, but did use the OS 9.2.2 classic support install disc from my G5 iMac to install classic support on to the G3 iMacs. It sounds like maybe I've left myself plenty of room for problems to arise.
Hope you all can help clear this up for this computer late starter.
    Thank You!

  • Can't PArtition HD and re-install disc

I was having booting problem with my MAc so i used my Install disc to reboot and went in Disk Utility but was having a problem so I erased everything since I recently backed up all my stuff on an external hardrive. However I erased it but then it does not allow me to Install. It says cant install in this volume with big Red exclamation mark. In addition when I try to Partition the HARD drive after erasing it it wont give me the option of chossing GUID.
Can YOU PLEASE HELP ME OUT
    ADNAN

I find myself telling people this a lot.
Try booting up your PowerBook in Target Disk Mode and connect it to another Mac via a FireWire cable. Do this by shutting down the PowerBook, restarting, and then holding down the "T" key while turning it on.
The PowerBook should show up on your other Mac as an external FireWire HD.
Then, try running Disk Utility on your other Mac (not your install disc) and see if you can initialize the disk and/or partition it from there. If so, that should work. Make sure you've done a clean erase.
Eject the FireWire HD (it should show up labeled as AAPL FIREWIRE something) and then press the power button on your PowerBook to shut it off.
Now, turn on your PowerBook, have your Tiger install disc handy so you can pop it in seconds after booting up, and hold down the "C" key on the keyboard. (Though, if there is nothing on your newly-erased and/or partitioned PowerBook drive, it should automaticallyl boot up with the disc).
Then, go from there and see if it works.
    IF NOT?
Go back to Target Disk Mode, and restart your other Mac under the Tiger disc, and when it's time for the install, select your "external hard drive"--your PowerBook via FireWire--and make that the destination drive.
That should work. Whichever way you work it out.

  • Software Install Disc Won't Boot

Please help, I found a Power Mac G4 that somebody had thrown away(M# 5183 450 MHz DP/2X1M Cache/128 MB Ram It has vertical sound ports and a AGP Card. Has the year 2000 on back) . It would not boot, I found a pinched wire on the power supply, now it boots with some version of X. But it is password protected, I want to wipe the drive and install an OS from an install disc I got off ebay(For a Power Mac G4 year 2000 SSW version 9.04 691-2739-A).
Now the fun begins. The CD will not boot with C depressed, I've tried resetting the PRAM, and sometimes I get a screen telling me to reboot and after I do the protected os will load. I tried booting with cmd-opt-O-F; this said I had a power mac 3,3 3.1f1 BootROM built on 6/28/00. Tried booting with options depressed it just shows me the drive I want to get rid of. Tried cmd-opt-shift-delete on startup nothing would load as long as the keys were down, the protected os loads when they are released. I also tried moving the jumpers on the hd from master to cable select.
Do I need an osX install disc to get rid of X ? any thoughts would be appreciated .
    G4   Mac OS 9.0.x

    Hi, macaraina -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
Your G4 450MHz DP machine is a Gigabit Ethernet model. Those models originally shipped with a model-specific version of OS 9.0.4; later models may have shipped with OS 9.1.
I suspect the CD you got on eBay is not valid for your machine.
In addition, the version of Drive Setup that came with OS 9.0.4 and earlier had a defect - when used to format a drive as Mac OS Extended (which is the correct format for OS 9 and also valid for OSX), such as when wiping a drive, it can leave the drive vuknerable to getting a wrapper error.
Article #31056 - HFS Wrapper Partition Damaged
For those reasons, particularly the second one, I suggest you get either a retail OS 9.1 Install CD or a retail OS 9.2.1 Install CD - either is suitable for your model. All retail OS 9 Install CDs those are white, with a large gold 9 on them; the retail OS 9 Install CD's have a universal installer; model-specific Install CD's do not.
You can often get retail OS 9 Install CD's in various versions at sites like these -

    (1) So, I found a youtube video showing how to open up my iMac and replace a Disk drive. I opened it. I removed the disk drive. I opened the metal cover of the lid of the disk drive. It was clean and immaculate; so, it destroyed and debunked the dirty drive theory. But, just to make sure I sucked around the optical sensor with a vacuum and gently brushed it with a Q-tip.
    (2) I then watched a you tube video showing how the drive operated (it was a drive supplied with power outside an iMac with a transparent cover unlike the opaque metal cover that we have on our drives). My scientific curiosity started to wonder if somehow the mechanical part (of the electro-mechanical assembly) was locked or jammed. So, I started messing with the arms with the utmost care after watching the video to see if i could move them manually. Yes on some. The main arm that is linked with the drive motor was immovable. The rest I played with a little bit, took great notice in the start of the video to see how the arms looked before inserting a disk. I then put it all back together.
It works now. My guess is that taking it out and then placing it back in along with the resetting options that others have done was the trick. I believe it is a possibility that the hard drive became locked mechanically in some strange manner after ejecting a DVD in conjunction with the uploading of the new OS. I believe the actual removal, reinstallation, and resetting of the drive put everything back into sync. My computer sits in a climate controlled dust free environment. I knew for a fact that this hard drive was OKAY.

  • WIndows failed to start. (0xc0000225); cannot run Safe Mode and no install disc

    Hello,
I am currently having a huge problem where my computer is stuck on "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the case. To fix the problem:..." (SEE IMAGE)
I have tried finding solutions online but none have worked. My computer DOES NOT go to safe mode if I press F8 nor do I have an 'installation disc'. In fact, I tried the recovery discs from my brother's laptop and the computer doesn't even recognize that they're
    in the disc tray.
My computer is an Acer Aspire M3470 running Windows 7 Home Prem OA.
If it helps, this occurred when I tried running Spybot S&D due to Malwarebytes refusing to start up (pretty sure I had a virus of some sort).
The other image is what shows before the error screen; pressing CTRL-F does nothing.
    Thank you in advance!

I have obtained an installation ISO and put it on both a disc and USB but neither work. I get a blue screen with the following text and cannot proceed no matter what I press:
"RECOVERY You pc needs to be repaired. The application or operating system could not be uploaded because a required file is missing or contains errors...
    File:\WINDOWS\system32\winload.efi Error code: 0xc0000225
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media, contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer.

  • I want wipe mac clean and re-install discs up to mountain lion

Hi  My computer is really slow and I want to wipe it back to factory settings and clean it out.  It's a 2007 and I have snow leopard 10.6.8 now and have already ordered lion and mountain lion to upload once it's cleaned.  I only have the snow leopard disc and nothing before that.  Do I need a start up disc or cleaning disc or can I just clean it out and upload snow leopard first then lion and mountain lion? Thanks!

You can use the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD to erase the internal drive and install a fresh OS.

  • Zen Touch - Moving files to PC without drivers and software install

I think I've heard about some firmware coming to make it possible to
move files to any computer with Windows mediaplayer installed,
without having to install the Zen Touch software or drivers....
Is this true? Is it out?
It would be awsome if I could move files and music between

after reading that I could only do it through the software...
Message Edited by Tophe on 02-02-2005 0:44 PM

Kinda. It won't appear as a dri've letter, but it will appear as a device in Windows Explorer. I'm not 00% certain if this will allow you to copy data to it (perhaps someone out there with a Zen Micro can confirm?). It'll also only work with a PC that has Win XP and Windows Media Player 0 installed. But aside from those issues, it's a form of driverless support.
