Laptop stolen, saved music luckily on x-hd, anyway to recover my playlists, laptop stolen, saved music luckily on x-hd, anyway to recover my playlists

my laptop got stolen the other day, but luckily they removed my x-hd and left it behind (thiefs with a concicous) which had all my iTunes library saved on it. so im glad i still got all my music but the problem is i had a lot of playlists and i mean A LOT!!! now i havent got a new computer just yet, my question is will i be able to recover them? i got a feeling that i should have saved them before and make back ups of them... i hope someone can tell me that im wrong because it means a lot of years, work and time have just gotten flushed down the drain, i do have an ipod classic which has a lot of these playlists saved on them but im afraid im not gonna be to extract it from there... anyone got any life saving ideas?

*Is there a way to make my iTunes music folder be on the WD ext HD, even though iTunes isn't installed on that HD?*

*i am confused as to the difference between a Library and a Playlist. There is only one "Library", right? There are multiple playlist*
The library is everything you have in iTunes, a playlist is just a series of links to items that are in the library. A song or movie can appear once in the library but can be linked to many different playlists.
*Why should i have to keep files i already have on the Touch/ATV in my playlist/Library?*
Your library is your backup so that if anything happens to your iPod for instance and you have to restore it to correct a problem you still have the original files to put back on.
