Laptop super slow after restore

So I decided to start fresh and completely restore my laptop but now it's so slow I can't do anything. Takes 10 minutes to start up the 30 more after I press login to load up and even the opening up anything takes 5 or more or it just never happens. Please help it's an HP pavilion dv9000.

You did not mention the notebook model number.
Most of the cases it is due to the Hard Drive malfunctioning.
Restart the notebook and press F10 at startup. You will get the Blue and White BIOS screen.
using arrow keys, go to the Diagnostics/Tools menu and run the hard drive self test.
If you get the result as PASS, it shows that hard drive is fine.
In case if you get any error code or message, you need to replace the hard drive which will fix the performance issue.
Get back with the result and also mention the notebook model number in your reply.

  • Safari and other aplications super slow after update to Snow Leopard. Installed the update combo and nothing happened, still super super slow. Any tips to solve this?

After updating to Snow Leopard (to install Lion later), Safari and other aplications became super super slow and Preview is not working properly, I can't print anything that was opened with Preview. Already installed the Combo update, nothing happened, Safari still taking hours to load any site. I honestly regret downloading Snow Leopard, the older version worked so much better... Hope Lion is smarter than Snow Leopard...

That is normal for a few hours. Spotlight is rebuilding its index of all connected drives. Disconnect any that are external and it will settle down soon. You can reconnect them when you go to sleep so that Spotlight can complete indexing.

  • IPhone running super slow after upgrading to SO5

i took it to the apple store and they told me to back up everything and then try restoring.  I did, and has made no difference.  all apps run SUPER slow.  safari is SUPER slow.  so frustrated.

Did you try a Restore as New...
Backup and Set Up as New Device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
Try this First... You will Not Lose Any Data...
Turn the Phone Off... ( if it isn’t already )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... (But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
    Turn the Phone On...

  • IPhone 3G is now super slow after 10 months or so usage??

My 3G phone has been working fine for about 10 months, but within the last months or so it has gone into slow motion, and I do mean SLOW motion.
    Examples
    1. Sending a picture, click on the "Email Photo" button, it takes about 15 seconds just to bring up the Email with image, then when I try to type in To: address it stays on the first letter I type for about 35 seconds (letter enlarges but just stays there) - this used to be instantaneous.
    2. Messages, press the message icon and it takes a good 10-15 seconds before I see a list of people who I've messaged (this used to be 1-2 seconds).
    3. Press on the iPod icon and again another 10-20 seconds before I see my playlists. Again, this used to take 1-2 seconds.
Now my iPhone never used to be like this, it was pretty fast for the first 10 months of usage. I haven't loaded any new apps (in fact I'm only at 2GB mem usage out of 8GB) and it's upto date with latest firmware and software. Doesn't seem to matter if I use wireless or 3G connection, nor if I have it plugged in or not.
I'm about ready to toss this phone out the window and go with something other than an iPhone. Is there any diagnostics I can run on my iPhone to try to figure out why it's gone into slow motion mode??
I've seen these types of problems happen with SSD drives where the MLC NAND flash starts to get flakey with no TRIM support (especially MLC) causing performance to radically drop off -- this is exactly what it feels like in my iPhone. Considering my 3G iPhone uses Samsung's 65nm 8GB MLC NAND flash which has been known to exhibit this problem over time, that's my guess as to why my iPhone has started to slow down.
I know several friends who are also running into identical "slow down" problems and they're in the same boat, toss the iPhone and go with a phone that uses better quality (real longer life) MLC or SLC NAND.
I know Apple aren't going to admit to anything unless enough people complain, so I was wondering how many other folks have run into this "mysterious slow down" problem after 10 months of iPhone usage?
    Rob.

    Hi Lawrence,
I've done the "RESET" Power down and Power up. Haven't done a reset and restore yet. The Reset seems to have worked for now, but what seems to happen is that after using Safari for a while it will start to slow down again until I do another Reset.
Guess I'll just keep doing a reset once a day, but definitely not optimal way to use my iPhone. Apple break something in one of their updates that would cause this? Any diagnostic tools for the iPhone that might show me memory usage/processing etc. etc.
    Thanks, Rob.

  • Core i7 HP laptop super slow.

Hi, my HP Pavillion DV6-3194CA laptop (XG752UA) starts freezing, lagging and generally being slow even in the simplest of tasks (even having a youtube video, or a few tabs open) it's much worse when doing such things as gaming (becomes unbearably slow at about 15 frames per second on lowest settings (BFBC2 for example)) and video editing (again, very bad lag. Our i3 laptop doesn't even lag). I have done virus scan after virus scan and am clean. Power management is set to highest performance. When ever I start doing anything, the processor picks up, and the fans sounds like a race car. It's depressing really .
    Specs: Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz, 6GB memory, ATI 5650HD
This laptop is less than a year old.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • IPhone 4s internet download speed super slow after iOS 7.1

I've been experiencing very slow download speed over wifi on my iPhone 4s and my iPad 2 after installing iOS 7.1 It's very frustrating because all other wireless enabled devices at home are working fine. My internet speed is 10Mbps download and my iPhone and iPad are only getting 0.01Mbps on average after iOS 7.1, which is really stupid. I've never experienced anything this frustrating with my iOS devices. Can anyone suggest a fix for this? I really need your help guys...

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)
If this doesn't help, back up and restore via iTunes. If the problem continues, restore as a new device and test. If the problem is solved, there is some kind of corruption in your backup file or maybe it's one of your apps causing problems. If it continues, take it to an Apple Store for evaluation of a possible hardware problem.

  • Mid-2011 iMac slow after restore

Hello all, thanks for stopping by.
I have  a Mid-2011 12,2 iMac that has been a powerhouse throughout its career. After several large edit projects, no less than 30 full-run shows for national and international broadcast, plus a myriad of other large editorial/graphial projects, I decided it was time to do a complete rebuild and bood to factory settings, seems like a nice way to optimize a system, no?  After cleaning my system drive, erasing it, re-installing Mavericks, and re-installing all NLE software (FCS3 and CC) this machine has gone from hero to zero overnight.  I have never since day one experienced the type of slowdowns that I am now experiencing. For instance, a 45-minute-source encoding into 1080p, 20mbs h.264 through AME would generally take 1.5 hrs. Now, the same export is reporting an 18-hour run time. Similar times with FCP7 and Compressor. There is an exact mirror of this machine running all of the same software and using Mavericks that has not been restored, and it continues to operate at the speeds that I am used to.
If anyone has experienced similar issues, or has any advise, I would be happy to have you join this discussion. And yes, I have turned my machine off and on again, so we are way past anything elementary at this point.
    Many Thanks,
    Dave O'Connor

    More info...
Sample of current export.  These exports are for client review via Vimeo at an increased bitrate of 10 to 20Mbps
17 hours for these settings is not a normal time assessment(taken full course, this media took just over 11 hours to complete).  To rule out Adobe issues, I opened a similar project via FCP with similar settings.
Given the time this ran through FCP when the screenshot was taken, I can see that this would be about an 11 hour process as well.
So I decided to dumb it down some, and tried a 1280 export in AME. Similar slowdown. Here's where the kicker comes in, on one of our other machines, an exact mirror of this machine, running on the same server makes this 1280 pass in less than one hour. The exact same machine.
My colleague suggested a ProRes export, even though those are much larger than necessary for this step.
5 hours is a very long time for such a low compression export.
So I decided to try directly through QuickTime Pro. (v7.6.6). I took a ProRes 422 source file into QT and set to convert to ProRes 422(LT).
Again, given the time of progress, this looks to be about 5 hours to finish.
In Activity Monitor, I have noticed lately, and even before the system restore, that some QT processes were not responding. So I checked on those processes.
These activities shut down during all encoding processes, Final Cut Pro 7, QuickTime 7, and Adobe Media Encoder. The mirror machine, during all similar processes does not report back on any of these QT issues.
I need big help on this one, and may have to move this issue to another area in discussions.
I know 100% that there are no issues with any peripherals on this machine.  The ONLY thing that has changed since I was experiencing smooth working files, is that I restored the machine to factory settings.
Thanks to anyone who can help point me in the right direction.
    Cheers,
    -Dave O'

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a few minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Alum Mac Mini SLOW after restore from Time Machine backup of 09 Mac Mini

    Hi,
I bought a 2010 Alum Mac Mini (2.4Ghz/2GB/320GB/OS10.6.4) a couple months ago, and I restored it from a time machine backup from my old '08 Mac Mini (1.83ghz/2GB/OS10.6.4). All data moved successfully, but this machine seems 2x slower than my old Mac Mini.
    Issues I'm encountering include:
    iDisk sync extremely slow
    launching Apps slow
Trouble handling more than 3 or 4 open apps (Chrome, iTunes, Pages, Numbers)
Is it possible that this is an issue because of restoring from the backup?
    Thanks in advance!
PS - I'm a fairly intermediate-advanced user, no programming background, but solid on most other things.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
If you still have the TM backup, I would suggest erasing the new Mac mini's HDD and doing a fresh install from its Install DVD and then do a migration of the TM backup rather than a clone. There is something in that clone that the new mini does not like.
You could also, as an alternative, try installing Mac OS X from the Install DVD over the top of the clone and see if it fills in the gap or corrects whatever the new mini does not like. This should not touch your data, just install Mac OS X Snow Leopard over the version already there. But you should always make a backup of anything that is not backed up.

  • Photo app in NEW iPad slow after restore from iPad2

I restored my iPad 3 from my iPad2 backup the other night. I synced over 12,000+ photos into my iPad3 and not only is the photo app extremely slow and unresponsive when browsing photo events in the Events section, but everything is out of order and no longer in chronological order like it is on the iPad2. Is this an issue that others are experiencing?

  • My laptop becomes slow after incurring privacy issues (118000 in one day) that are noted as being mozilla profiles

I clear my laptop with A S C programme but latest review identified 118000 privacy issues in less than one day. This is a regular problem. Needless to say this overall issue slows my computer down until I clean it up again. The programme I use identifies the privacy issues are down to Mozilla profiles.

    Installed Plug-ins
    Shockwave Flash 15.0 r0

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues.
Flash is notorious for not cleaning out the older version as part of an update.
    Grab the uninstaller from here:

  • ITunes running super slow after latest update, today.

I just updated my software on iTunes and suddenly it's running super slooooooow!
It takes about 2 to 4 minutes to open.
New computer. Running Windows 7. It's not my computer. I promise.
iTunes was super fast until I just updated the software, this morning.
Plus, now it doesn't recognize my iPhone 4.
All of other programs are still running at lightening speed.
So, any suggestions? I'm expecting my new iPhone 4s, today and really don't want to have any issues going in.
    This is very frustrating!
    Thanks!

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:
