Laptop to Internet via iPhone over Bluetooth?

Has anyone experimented with getting a laptop on the Internet using an iPhone (connected to EDGE) via a Bluetooth link to the laptop?
Thanks

I think bluetooth should be upgraded to allow to use
iPhone to connect to the Internet with any laptop
(i.e. Powerbooks or MacBooks), this is the only
feature I am really missing with the iPhone! Do you
think will be any software upgrade or third party
software allowing to do that? Thanks for sharing.
Wireless access from the iPhone is $20 a month. AT&T's unlimited access for laptops is $80 a month, and for other devices (PDAs, Blackberry, etc; the TOS forbids you to use the PDA as a wireless modem for a laptop) is $50 a month. Thus, if the iPhone COULD be used as a modem it would undercut all of the other wireless data services.
Anyway, you wouldn't really want wireless laptop access over EDGE; believe me, I've tried it. If you really need wireless access get a 3G aircard with a separate data plan. It's really worth the price to have DSL speeds over the cellular network.

I have a connection between the two using nokia pc suit but cannot get internet connection to work.
The phone connects to the internet OK. I did try setting the connection up once but the could only get it to use IR the laptop wanted to know loads of information that I did not have, I think it was all set up on the phone via text message download.
Anyway, any information/experiances you have would be much appreciated.

  • Laptop data connection via iphone

    Method 1
I am interested in connecting my iphone to my macbook to send and receive data. I previously had a setup on an IBM where i could connect to the internet via my blackberry (ATT/Cingular).
Does anyone know of an arrangement of this sort?
    Method 2
Even if i could input my iphone screen onto my laptop screen so i could see a large view would suffice
    Method 3
Alternatively, i learned that ATT offers wifi service now and is partnered with starbucks, but the plans i read were all listed through ATT residential internet service (not like T-mobile that provides mbile phone subscribers discounts on the wifi plan). My residential DSL/phone setup is currently through Comcast/Vonage; im unaware of wifi plans either of these 2 offer.
Appreciate any insight you are able to provide! Seems there should be a solution right under my nose!
    thanks

If you subscribe to one of several AT&T broadband access methods, you qualify for unlimited 802.11b/g access at any supported AT&T or Wayport access point, including those being installed and provisioned at Starbucks.
You will likely in the future, be entitled to iPhone-only unlimited access through such access points simply by virtue of being an at&t iPhone subscriber, though the initial, unannounced 'field trial' of this service has been at least temporarily shut down. This was primarily attributed to abuse by those using a laptop or other non-iPhone device to mimic one, and connect for unlimited use.
You can purchase and register a Starbucks card under the provisions of the Starbucks Card Rewards program, or register a supported Duetto VISA card, add a minimum of $ 5.00 to the card each month and receive two hours of free access per day using any supported 802.11b/g device—including an iPhone—at Starbucks alone. You can start [url=https://www.starbucks.com/card/default.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1] here to obtain more details.
These are three completely unrelated, but effectively overlapping, ways to get some degree of 802.11b/g access at Starbucks.

  • Can I control my iPad music from my iPhone over bluetooth

  • Can we send contacts& music via Iphone 3GS bluetooth

I am planning to buy an iphone 3GS ,if and when it comes to India or UAE.
my only apprehension is , will I be able to send and receive (phone contacts, music, video)from other mobile phones or my mac book pro using the bluetooth on iphone 3Gs ?

'share it' (free app) allows you to send (1 at a time) contacts, photos, text and Youtube video.
I would be surprised if Apple let you send music that you haven't paid for via itunes! Unfortunately like most things with the iphone what seems pretty easy to achieve is pretty frustrating when put into practice. I have my 2 iphones sitting here and while i've been writing i checked to see what you can do with this app. Unfortunately 4 minutes later they still haven't discovered each other to be able to transfer. In other words it would of been quicker to do it by hand. and that is the same conclusion i have come to with wi-fi transfer too.

  • Connecting laptop to internet via cell phone

I heard i can use my cell phone to connect my laptop to the internet, i currently have a lg envy touch , with a 25 megabyte plan which would not be enough as I am wanting to get rid of current dsl plan and wanting to use my wireless plan as my only paid source of internet connection in my home.
I can upgrade plan to unlimited for 29.99 per month which is what i currently pay for my home dsl.  I was told by verizon rep i could use a smartphone ( droid/ droid incredible) to set up a wireless connection in which i could also use my ipod and nintendo dsi to connect to internet as well at the same time as the laptop.
So my thinking is i add another line to my 2100 minute family plan for additional monthly cost of 9.99 get the droid for 199.99 with the unlimited plan of 29.99 bringing my total monthly bill to 170.00 minus taxes. I currently only use about 900-1000 minutes but the savings of dropping minutes just doesnt seem worth it to me as I have children on my plan and their minutes will increase at some point and I would rather be locked in to a plan that gives me more than needed.
So I am wondering if others on this forum could give me their opinion/advise?
Does anyone else use the unlimited 29.99 plan as their only source of internet connection? and how fast/slow etc?
If it matters I will be using the internet connection in Pasadena Texas and mainly we use the internet for general searches on basic info, job searches, facebook,  ipod music, no gaming or anything complicated, just a typical basic internet family use.
    Thank you so much!
    Shannon

In addition to the unlimited $29.99 data plan, you would also need a $29.99 tethering plan, so it would cost you $60 a month - and the connection would not be as good as your DSL.  And we use our DSL to connect to a router and have several laptops and desktops using our DSL, which would not work with a tethered connection.  My advice - skip the tethering and keep the DSL.

  • Transmit audio to multiple iPhones over bluetooth

Can i transmit audio from my iphone to opther iphones? Is there an App that does this? Or does iPhone ONLY transmit and not capable of receiving bluetooth?
The goal is to have multiple iphones listening to my bluetooth audio output. How can this be done?

  • New iMAC - want to connect PC Laptop to Internet via iMAC Airport

Hello - I have a new IMAC and the Internet connection to the IMAC is fine but I'm having trouble establishing a wireless network.
The store told me that I could use the Airport built into the MAC as a wireless router so that my PC laptop can access the Internet as well. My PC laptop is running Windows 2000 - and I have used it with a wireless router previously.
I can see the iMAC wireless network connection in my laptop's available network; however, I'm unable to connect to it.
Also, my IMAC system properties for Airport indicate that the wireless network is unavailable.
I've not selected any security settings - unless there's some default settings that I'm not aware of.
    Advice or suggestions please???

The store told me that I could use the Airport built into the MAC as a wireless router so that my PC laptop can access the Internet as well.
That's correct. You will be using your Mac OS X's Internet Sharing feature to share your iMac's wired Internet connection wirelessly, using the iMac's AirPort, to your PC laptop. However, you will not be able to use wireless security, as the only option available (WEP), for Internet Sharing, will only work with other Macs.
To setup for Internet Sharing (Wired to Wireless):
    Enable Software Firewall - iMac
System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall
    - Click Stop to start the software firewall
    Setup the Network
Cable Modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] iMac > (wireless) > PC laptop
    Setup Port Order - iMac
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
    - Verify that "AirPort" and "Built-In Ethernet" are enabled.
    - Verify that "Built-In Ethernet" is at the top of the list, followed by "AirPort".
    - Click "Apply Now."
Configure the Internet Connection - iMac
    System Preferences > Network > Show > Built-In Ethernet > TCP/IP
    - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    - Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
    Enable Internet Sharing - iMac
System Preferences > Sharing > Internet
    - Share your connection from: Built-in Ethernet
    - To computers using: AirPort (checked) (Note: Uncheck all other entries in the list.)
    - AirPort Options
    -- Network Name: <anything you want>
    -- Channel: Automatic
    -- Click OK
    - Click Start

  • How to sysnc apple the new 3g iphone over bluetooth with my macbook ?

Well,I just bought this phone from at&t today for that much luring discounted price of 199$.The features on this phone are highly frustrating apart from not having cut copy and paste, now the blue tooth won't pair with my apple notebook.
Does anyone have a solution for this? I do not want to use the sync cable.so please do not suggest on that front. This phone is nothing but annoying piece of technology.
    No cute&paste and copy.
No blue tooth for connecting with laptops
and many more features missing.I think i am going to return this.

I thinnk apple did not pay enough Bluetooth liscence for the rest of the profile? The hardware is capable to do all those and more but now it's like Verizon phones before only crippled to headset. Return yours and get HTC pad phones instead they are the best

  • Lost connection of 2 client laptops to internet via LAN on WRT320N wireless-N dual channel router

The connection of almost 2 yr. old router to DSL modum was unstable recently. They're hardwaired to my desktop. A Cisco customer rep recommended downloading an "upgrade firmware" for the unit, and I did that. It seemed to have made the internet connection stable for the desktop, but now I can't connect the both 2 laptops to the network. The network and its properties are detected by each of them, but it appears the internal setting(s) are now out of sync with those of the router. Any help.

Assuming your two laptops are wireless, after you upgraded the firmware an reset the router you have to reconfigure it.  You have to input your wireless network settings again and make them match with your laptops.  Has this been done?

  • TS3276 Connect to internet via browser over Airport Express, but Mail app can't connect to internet

Hi - I just moved to a new apartment, and I have an Airport Express that is allowing me to connect to the internet through a browser, but Mail keeps telling me that it can't connect to the internet. I'm guessing it has something to do with the network settings for my Airport Express? Not sure what the right configuration should be. Thanks!

In Mail, from the Window menu select Connection Doctor - any feedback there? Within the window click on Network Diagnostics to see if it offers any clues.
