Laptop touchpad, keyboard, external mouse problem

I have an HP Pavilion dv6-6c35dx laptop.
It is running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS.
I have been using my latop for college work and a little gaming since I got over a year ago. I haven't had any problems with it up until now. During that time I have been using a Logitech G700 external mouse instead of the touchpad (which has worked the whole time). Literally out of no where my external mouse kind of stopped working. The pointer icon would move across the screen but I could not click on anything. During this time, the touchpad would sometimes work, and other times not work in much the same way as the external mouse. Also too, the keyboard wouldn't work at all. All the drivers were installed and up to date. I decided to do a reformat as I was due for one anyway but I wanted to save all my data first. I tried using a Knoppix boot CD to do this but for whatever reason it wouldn't load, stating that it couldn't find/access the filesystem. Safe mode worked and I was able to save my data, miracuously with the touchpad. I performed a reformat and installed all the drivers and returned my notebook to its factor settings. I reinstalled my G700 software and it worked for about the first 5 minutes, then I was back to square one. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

  • Bluetooth keyboard and mouse problems

    Dear friends,
    I think something is wrong with my bluetooth devices... They work perfecly well for a period of time (maybe 1 hour, maybe 2 minutes) and after this period they stop working well. They are not disconnected, they keep working, but they are super lagish, e.g. the mouse cannot be controlled, the keyboard have super latency or it keeps repeating a button i selected.
    When this occurs I turn off bluetooth from my status bar, and turn it again on right away. That solves the problem for again a period of time. This issue was first introduced to me after I installed Lion on my mac. After this and some other problems I experienced in Lion, I decided to switch back to snow leopard again. The thing is that the problem persisted...
    Any suggestions ???
    Thanks

    OK. New input...
    Updated again to Lion. As soon as I updated the problem began again. Once again I deleted the com.apple.bluetooth file and reset both pram and smc.
    For two days my bluetooth devices were working perfectly fine. None issues.
    Today, I was in a hurry and put my mac on sleep by closing the lid. As soon as I opened the lid again
    the problem unveiled again.
    What on earth is happening ?? It cannot be a keyboard or mouse problem, can it ??
    Little help, please... It seems managable, but performing a smc and pram reset every couple days doen't
    seem right...

  • Better solution to disabling touchpad on external mouse connection??

    Hi all,
    I've been playing around with a "clean" solution to disabling the Synaptics touchpad on my laptop - when I connected a USB external mouse OR when the USB mouse is already connected at boot...
    I have a very hacked together solution... First for info the stock "mouse" devices on laptop...
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 26.09.2013 12:38 mouse0 -> ../../devices/virtual/input/input6/mouse0/
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 26.09.2013 12:38 mouse1 -> ../../devices/platform/i8042/serio4/input/input14/mouse1/
    FYI MCE IR Keyboard/Mouse (ite-cir) and Synaptics touchpad respectively.
    So I have a simple script...
    #! /bin/bash
    username=$(users | gawk '{print $1}')
    export DISPLAY=":0"
    export XAUTHORITY="/home/${username}/.Xauthority"
    if $(lsusb -v | grep -q Mouse); then
    synclient TouchpadOff=1
    else
    synclient TouchpadOff=0
    fi
    exit 0
    that is called by a udev (/etc/udev/rules.d/01-touchpad.rules ) rule...
    ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="input", KERNEL=="mouse[0-9]", ENV{ID_CLASS}="mouse", PROGRAM="/root/Scripts/mouse_detect.sh"
    ACTION=="remove", SUBSYSTEM=="input", KERNEL=="mouse[0-9]", ENV{ID_CLASS}="mouse", PROGRAM="/root/Scripts/mouse_detect.sh"
    Problem is that solution does not fire when I logout and login again, or boot from cold, into KDM/KDE... My hack to solve this problem was the following (awful!!) systemd unit...
    [Unit]
    Description=Mouse Detect (on Desktop Environment startup)
    After=display-manager.service
    Requires=display-manager.service
    [Service]
    Type=oneshot
    RestartSec=20
    Restart=always
    ExecStart=/root/Scripts/mouse_detect.sh
    [Install]
    WantedBy=graphical.target
    It's stored as mouse-detect.service in /etc/systemd/system ... It fires too early, probably when KDM is active (hence why it auto-restarts every 20 seconds).... Not even sure if it's possible to get the mouse_detect.sh script to work during the KDM Session (as I'm not sure where the Xauthority information is stored for KDM and so on)...
    If I make it the service unit stop on a successful run of synclient (e.g. Restart=onfailure) - it won't every refire - if say I logout and log back into my KDE session!!
    Any thoughts on how to do this more cleanly??
    Given that the current solution works - I was just looking to learn some more - by implementing a less hacked version!!
    Thanks
    Bob

    Zamajalo wrote:What about using one simple udev rule? Manual can be found here
    The udev rule falls down when you boot with a USB mouse already attached to the laptop - on boot (as I clearly stated). The rule only detects change of state (mouse attached or detached). Also what if you have 2 USB mice attached?? :-) The udev idea of what a "mouse" is - is also rather generic (e.g. touchpad, infrared remote control are definitely not USB mice!!)
    The script is overkill for running from a udev rule (- although it does have the benefit of not have a hard-coded username). However the script is necessary to test for a mouse being attached - when a KDE session starts. That was basically what my question was about... How to run this script at the start of the KDE session - my use of lsusb is annoying - because it means the script must run as root (due to the verbose flag)... There must be a way to do this as a normal desktop user (and then the script should run OK in a normal autostart desktop script).
    Thanks

  • CP60-615DX Touchpad and external mouse no longer work after WIndows 7 SP1 update

    Let me start by saying I am in the IT field, though clearly far from being great at it. I was updating a CP60-615DX at work with Win 7 x64 SP1. It installed with no errors or anything I'd consider abnormal. Once it was finished, the touchpad no long worked, as well as any mouse I'd hook up via Usb. So I checked Device manager, and the Touchpad is listed with the yellow exclamation mark, as well as mice I hook up. So I did what any respectable IT guy would do, I went to HP and downloaded x64 drivers for the Touchpad port and installed them. But they didn't fix the issue, literally nothing happened. So I installed the latest chipset drivers. Still nothing changed. So I uninstalled the device and manually added it by doing the advanced driver install for a new device, pointing it to the directory where the .exe file had placed the drivers. ...Nothing. So I uninstalled SP1,.... nothing. After uninstalling SP1, redid every aforementioned step, nothing. So my question is, **bleep**? Anyone know another way to fix an issue where the scrolling devices stop working and the drivers won't fix the issue?
    Btw, the user had never set up windows restore, and my only other thought is pulling personal documents off and restoring to factory defaults. One more bit of info before I forget, when I went into Windows Recovery (which loads a pre-environment mini OS for you to restore and fix issues), the mouse worked, telling me it's not a hardware issue, it's a Windows vs devices issue.

    Hi,
    According to your description, since system reinstallation is not helpful, it's probably a hardware problem, it would be better to check if it is the device itself problem.

  • Keyboard & Mighty Mouse problems

    Hi all,
    I am using the new style keyboard with my MBP and for some reason I keep losing the bluetooth connection & the message " keyboard connection lost " the keyboard is next to my MBP so I cannot understand why I am getting this message ? Also when I receive this message my Mighty Mouse seems to move across the screen very slow ?
    If anyone has a clue why this is happening and could give me some help in solving this problem I would be very great full.
    Thanks Clinton

    Edit: You may want to ignore the below. I just realized it was pertaining to the Mac Pro, and not the MBP...
    Try reading through this thread and see if it helps:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=633522&tstart=0
    In a nutshell, it could be a Bluetooth-related wiring problem. Some people have gone and fixed the problem by opening up their machines and following the instructions here:
    http://www.thelocale.org/files/howtos/mac-pro-bluetooth-howto.pdf
    Since tampering with the innards of your computer will probably void your warranty, I would suggest that you NOT do this yourself unless you have to. If you're still under warranty, perhaps you could go to an Apple Store to get it looked at, showing them the above to sort of nudge them in the right direction...

  • Can't disable touchpad when external mouse connected

    Hey guys,
    OS: Win7 64Bit
    Product : b0p18pa#ab4
    Model: dv6-7007tx
    The only way i've figured out a way to disable the touchpad is to uninstall the PS/2 compatible mouse in device manager. (which requires a restart) to come into effect and is reinstalled after the next restart afterwards.
    the touchpad is SO sensitive it makes it extremely aggrivating to type as i keep tapping  the pad with my palms.
    any insight would be fantastic.
    cheers guys.

    Hi,
    Please try:
       Control panel > Mouse > ClickPad Settings
       Tick Disable internal pointing device when .....
       Click Apply

  • Keyboard and mouse problems

    Within the past week I have had a lot of trouble with my powerbook. About 6 months ago I put tiger on it. Now when I use my computer it seems like it freezes up. Only certain keys work and the mouse will no open anything except for the drop down menus. Any ideas.

    Turn your laptop off and then turn it back on.

  • Mac mini, bluetooth keyboard and mouse problems

    My elderly father is trying to use bluetooth (USB adaptor) with his mini, and Apple bluetooth keyboard and bluetooth mouse. He has the mini about 6 feet away in the entertainment center partly behind the cabinet door. He keeps getting a message that his keyboard can't be found. I've had him wiggle the key board, check the batteries etc. to no avail. He bought this Mini 5 months ago to be able to get DSL, and so far he hasn't been able to get hooked up because his keyboard never works enough.
    I live 400 miles away, so can't go over easily to help out. He doesn't want a keyboard with a cable, because he wants to sit in front of the TV, which he is using as a monitor.
    Any suggestions? The mouse works more reliably, by the way.
    I don't know what brand USB adaptor he is using, he got it from Fry's, but the Apple store says they recommend only certain brands.
    thanks,
    Lory

    problem solved. Replaced key board, mousse and changed brands of USB bluetooth adaptor, which is now a D-Link brand I bought from an Apple store. Works like a champ.

  • Option to disable UltraNav (touchpad + trackpoint) when external mouse is connected

    I grabbed the 5/2011 drivers for UltraNav from the Lenovo site and it appears that an option 'to disable the integrated pointing devices when an external pointing device is present' does not exist, or at the very least I can't easily find it.  Please please please please tell me I'm simply being dense and this behavior is very easy to enable.
    Seriously, the 5-year old Dell drivers I had with my old machine did that, and this is driving me BONKERS.
    Alternatively, if what I'm doing here is feature-requesting, I'd be like 50% there if I could Fn+F8 and have an option to kill both the touchpad and the trackpoint - alas, I can disable 1 or the other BUT NOT BOTH WITH THAT OPTION.  Can I really not disable both?
    Lenovo W520, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

    Even though it passed some time from first post I'm writing a solution for auto disabling UltraNav touchpad and trackpoint when external mouse is connected.
    I have Lenovo L530 that doesn't have shortcut on keyboard to disable Elantech touchpad so after a driver update (from about 20 March 2013) I tried to find a solution again -now with success.
    To auto disable touchpad when external mouse is connected you have to set value in registry editor here is procedure (for Windows 7 procedure for other Windows editions is similar or same):
    Click Windows type in regedit and run it.
    Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\OtherSetting. (If you can't find Elantech\OtherSetting in HKEY_CURRENT_USER navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Elantech\OtherSetting.)
    Find DisableWhenDetectUSBMouse double click it and change value (from 0) to 1, hit OK.
     (If you don't have DisableWhenDetectUSBMouse in Elantech\OtherSetting create new DWORD with name DisableWhenDetectUSBMouse and set value to 1.)
    Restart computer.
    I hope someone still find this helpful.

  • Kernel panics with external mouse in clamshell mode

    Have had more than 6 kernel panics; usually after waking; always in clamshell mode when using a Logitech wireless mouse (with or w/o software loaded) or Kensington USB trackball (with driver loaded but not worth using w/o driver). Does not happen with Apple USB mouse. Does not happen in laptop mode -- haven't tried laptop mode w/external mouse. Always on work Ethernet when in clamshell mode.
    Has occurred w/OS 10.4.9 and 10.4.10. Have run extended Apple hardware test w/no results.
    Have removed Logitech “LCC” file from user/library/application enhancers.
    Have experienced panics w/a variety of apps open/active, including just Safari.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Greetings.
    I'm having the same problem as Beanfield. I'm using a MX620 Logitech Wireless Laser Mouse, and it produces several problems under Mac OS X 10.4.10. The micro receiver is plugged to the rear of my iMac Intel Dual Core and altough I've switched it to the USB ports of my Apple Keyboard it still happens.The Kernel Panics (with the Grey Screen of Death) happen mostly when the mouse awakes the computer. Very often, when right clicking or single clicking items, the menus appear and disappear. Dragging items becomes impossible and even after restarting the iMac the problem persists.
    It also interfers with the keyboard: sometimes the cursor blinks when moving and when I press any key on the keyboard, it resumes its normal activity. Recently I've added 1 G of RAM, but I've excluded it from the problem since it worked normaly with my now defunt Mighty Mouse. Also, I bought a 500 G Lacie external drive that works very well.
    I'm getting very frustrated since this problems began only a few weeks after my purchases, which took in account full compatibility with my system. All drivers are correctly installed so...what's happening?
    Best Regards
    Pedro

  • I've connected my macbook pro (os 10.6.8) to an external display, but it will not go into clam shell mode!  When I close the lid the laptop goes to sleep, and I am unable to wake it using the external keyboard or mouse.

    A rundown of what I've tried:
    Adjusting energy settings to try to prevent sleep
    Pluging the USB keyboard and wacom tablet directly into the laptop (as opposed to a usb hub)
    My laptop's power cable is connected
    My display (a Vizio TV) is recognized in the System Preferences panel
    I'd been using this TV for about a year with my older Macbook Pro (OS 10.5.8), though using a different wireless keyboard and mouse
    ***Update:  The issue seems to lie with the keyboard and wacom tablet.  I am trying to use a wireless Case Logic keyboard (with dongal) and wired wacom tablet to wake the Macbook Pro in clamshell mode.  To experiment, I tried using my Logitech wireless keyboard & mouse set (also dongal) that I had been using before and it wakes the computer without any problems!  However, I really need to be able to use my wacom tablet.  If I switch to the tablet after waking the computer using the Logitech keyboard & mouse it works, but once the computer sleeps it won't work anymore.  I could keep switching back and forth I suppose, but it's sort of a pain.  There has to be an easier way!  Any ideas why the wired wacom tablet is unable to wake the computer in clamshell mode?
    Thanks!

    So your keyboard or mouse won't wake the Mac when you close the lid correct? Try resetting the SMC and pram
    Shut down the computer.
    Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
    Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
    Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
    Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
    Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • TS3048 My early 2009 Mac Pro does not connect via bluetooth to my sound bar or bluetooth mini speakers. Both my wireless keyboard and mouse have no problems connecting. What do I need to do to connect to external bluetooth devices?

    My early 2009 Mac Pro does not connect via bluetooth to my sound bar or bluetooth mini speakers. Both my wireless keyboard and mouse have no problems connecting. What do I need to do to connect to external bluetooth devices?

    I would always have a wired keyboard and mouse on hand (need not be expensive ... any cheap wired devices will work).  "Emergency recovery" procedures can activate features in random order, so the opportunity to select a recovery partition may pass before the wireless devices are recognized.
    That will let you select the "turn on Bluetooth" icon.

  • External Mouse and Keyboard Stop Working When X220 is Docked and Screen is Closed

    I have an X220 with a docking station, external monitor and external keyboard/mouse.  When I start the laptop from a cold boot and it's docked, my external mouse and keyboard work fine with the screen open or closed.
    If I undock and redock with the screen closed, the external keyboard doesn't work and the mouse cursor moves, but the mouse buttons don't do anything.  If I open the screen, then the keyboard and mouse work fine.
    I've swapped the keyboard and mouse and still have the same problem, so it's not the kb/mouse.  This is a brand new X220 and the issue has been occurring since it was purchased.
    Any thoughts?

    hey mhambalek,
    hard to say what's going on, though i would recommend heading to http://support.lenovo.com , do a full update of your unit.
    also, if the external keyboard & mouse & monitotor is connected to your unit without the docking station, does the same thing happen?

  • Hp 2000 laptop touchpad mouse will not work

    I have had this laptop approx a year and no problems. The other day I went to log online and the mouse worked to get to the icon but after that it freezes. I have reset my computer several times and ran my anti virus but I keep getting the same result. I have used this computer maybe 20 times since I have had it. Please help me. Also there is an orange light on that is next to the touch pad that stays on, that is new.

    Hi there ,
    Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions. I have looked into the issue you are having with your touchpad mouse. Have you tried plugging in an external mouse? First thing I want to address is the orange LED that is next to the touchpad. The orange LED indicated on the touchpad has been turned off. You can turn it back on by double tapping the corner of the touchpad where the LED is (usually top left corner). Here is a document that has some troubleshooting steps, shows you the LED area, and how to turn it on/off. To test if it is hardware or software please follow these steps below: Boot into safe mode by tapping F8 at start up, and see if you are still having the problem. This should tell us if it’s the hardware or software. After a while in safe mode if you don't have the problem open command prompt and run the following command SFC /scannow. This should correct any software errors. Here is a link to get to command prompt. Please re-post with the results of these troubleshooting steps and your Model Number (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?) Thanks!
