  • Laptop will not power on when power button is pressed

    I have a Pavilion m6
    model: m6-1045dx
Laptop will not power on when I press the power button. It is fully charged. The only light that will come on is the light indicating that it is fully charged. I have tried removing the  battery and then putting it back in but that did not work. I use this laptop for college and it is time to go back to school. Please help!

Try a hard reset, works sometimes.Disconnect all external devices first.
    1-remove power cord and battery
2-press power button for 30 seconds
3-reinstall only power cord for first startup.
    4-try power on

  • Need Help HP DM3 (DM3-1130us) Laptop will not power on. No power at all except for light on a/c jack

    Hello, I need some help.
I have a HP DM3-1130us Laptop that will not power on at all.
the only thing that happens when I plug it in is the power jack lights up.
When the power button is used absolutely nothing happens.
No power, no fans, no leds, no on/off cycles, no beebs, absolutely nothing
just the light by the power jack that says the cord is plugged in.
The laptop has Windows 7, 320gb hdd, 4gb ram.
I have tried new power adapter and still nothing.
I have taken the battery out and tried and nothing.
I've tried the option where you take the battery out and hold the power and nothing.
I have tried with different hard drive and no hard drive and nothing.
I have tried reseating the ram and tried new ram modules still nothing.
So I am kind of stumped on what to do, the laptop will just not turn on.
Its not under warranty anymore so cant send it off.
It has not been exposed to any elements(extreme heat or water).
and its never been dropped or anthing.
Im kind of wondering maybe the power button board its self is bad?
If feels fine, its not loose or anything but could it
have just stopped working? for those who are not familiar with this model.
the power button is on the side and is a kind of drag and release button.
Its also on the same board with the Wifi button and 2 Usb ports.
But Im wondering before I buy a new one if this is what it could be.
Or could the motherboard its self be bad?
But even if the motherboard is bad would it still power up
    just not post?
Also does anyone know of any other way to try to power this laptop up
without using the slide button. I mean kind of like off a Dv6000 you can power the laptop on by using the Quicklaunch buttons on top but this laptop does not have those.
If anyone can provide any information I would appreciate it.
    Thank you.

    Hey Tyler,
Unfortunately it is difficult to troubleshoot this type of issue. The majority of the time when the computer wont power on with the same symptoms you described, the power supply board is faulty. Most of the time if the motherboard is bad it should at least turn on or so some signs of life. Like I said, this is most of the time. Sometimes it could do exactly what your experiencing. I would suspect the power supply board has failed since you are not receiving any sort of lights, sounds, etc.
You could check the motherboard for swollen capacitors or loose solder joints but sometimes you wont be able to find anything.
I hope this helps answers your questions,
    Sean

  • Laptop will not power on even after hard reset

hello, this laptop had a problem with the keys not typing, it was working fine the other day, then it suddenly would not type, i had to use on screen keyboard to log on , i had done a few thing like check filter keys were not on etc, when i was googling to try and find a solution, i was going to try system restore but the computer went out of charge so i plugged charger in, normally this would bring laptop back on when i press power button, but it has died, no sign of life at all, i tried the obvious solution, take battery out, press power button 30 secs, plug adaptor back in and switch on, nothing, there is no sound coming from it and no lights anywhere, it is only about 18 month old, and does not get heavily used, surely cannot be a serious problem, even though the charger was working perfectly weel that morning, i obtained one from a friend who has an hp laptop with same charger, made no difference, any suggestions please

I have done this, we got an adaptor from a friend with an HP laptop, her adaptor is working and charging her laptop, so we borrowed it, removed battery again from the one we are trying to fix , but still nothing, no lights anywhere, not a sound of anything happening, i really do not understand this, as it was working fine ,apart from the keyboard problem ,  there is not much on it,it is not heavily used and it is not much more than one year old, there were no error messages, blue screen or nothing, it just looked like it had run out of charge, but like i said, when i plugged in charger , it would not come back on, thanks for your reply

  • Lenovo laptop will not power up at all. Please help

Ok, so I got up this morning to turn my laptop on and it acted like it was gonna power up but nothing ever appeared on the screen. So I took out the battery and put it back in to see if that would work, but now it doesn't show any signs of power at all. I read somewhere it could be the motherboard cause even while plugged in it doesn't work. I just got the laptop a week before Christmas so it's not like its that old. Also the battery was holding a great charge before this happened so I know its not dead. I can find the receipt to bring it in, but I do have the bank statement from where I paid with a debit card so would that suffice enought to exchange it? Thanks for any help.

Kinda sounded like they tried that nono "cause even while plugged in it doesn't work."
Definitely try xl's info and try taking out the battery and unplugging it, hold down power button for 15ish seconds, then reinsert battery, replug in and try to power it on.

  • DV4 1275 Power Issue, Battery not charging, Will not Power with AC only

    HP Pavillion DV4-1275mx
Battery will not charge, Laptop will not fully turn on with battery in (battery not charging at all).  Laptop will not power on at all with no battery using only AC and with battery it will attempt to load and die due to lack of charge.
Have tried 3 diff HP chargers.
The orginial 1 that came with the laptop is dead and will not charge anything. Tried it on a diff HP laptop and not recognizing any power
The 2nd one is OE HP laptop diff model but same wattage that came with my gfs work laptop.  I have charge my laptop with it before in the past however it is not charging the battery now either
The 3rd is a aftermarket generic one that my g/f bought in the airport and it works with hers as well however I have never used it on mine.
I have tried hard resetting.. taking out battery, holding power for a min and replugging everything.
Also when I remove the battery and plug in either of the chargers that do work the power LED are "not" lighting up on the front or the LED where the AC plugs into the laptop.  Which makes you think the charger is bad however the 2 working chargers do work on my other 2 HP laptops.
If i plugin one of the 2 working chargers with the battery it will go through the boot process and as its starting windows it just dies and shuts off.  The power led by the DC jack does light up and the charging light on the front lights up. However this only works when I unplug the battery and plug the AC charger in. After the laptop boots up to starting windows and dies. I have to remove the battery and replace it to get the LEDS to light back up..  If the MB was bad I wouldnt think any of the LED's would come on nor would the laptop boot up to the starting windows. If  keep trying to turn it on the booting time is shortened as the battery is not holding a charge and sometimes it only makes a few seconds and then just dies out.
I dont have alot of money to spend so I was hoping maybe you could point me in the right direction.
Should I buy the replacement part OE charger for my specific laptop? (not sure if its going to be much diff than the others since they are all 65 watt chargers)
Should I buy a new battery as well?
Or does this sound like a short problem in the mother board or a solder issue with the DC plugin?
If it is an issue with the motherboard I do not want to go through the hassle of buying the battery and charger as I will end up having to just replace the laptop
If you could please advise me what direction to go I would be so greatful.

Dude, I have the same exact problem with mine. It's not a cheap fix either. It definitely is the motherboard.
I'm no expert, but I believe the problem is a dead capacitor on the motherboard preventing it to build up a charge.
I spoke with an HP rep, which told me it's $398 for them to fix.
I let them know that I didn't have another $400 to put into this laptop. So, they suggested I try reseating the motherboard. And also reseating the memory modules.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01597750.pdf
That is a pdf of the laptop's manual. It'll help in reseating. Page ( 59 ) for the motherboard. Page ( 67 ) for the memory modules.
This hasn't helped at all with mine, but maybe it'll help with yours!

  • G570 will not power on with or without battery

I have a G570 that will not power on or charge regularly. I have tested ac adapter and i am getting 20 volts. I also tested power at the jack on motherboard where the power port plugs in and getting 20v there as well. If I remove battery laptop will not power up on just ac adapter. If I plug in ac with battery installed the power button, power light and battery light just blink but still will not power on. I have left overnight and still nothing and I have tried 2 new batteries. My thinking is motherboard and I have tried googling but have not been able to find this exact symptom. Unit is out of warranty .

    hi itrcomp
I would suggest doing a power drain
Remove AC and battery and hold down the power for atleast 15 seconds,
then reconnect just the Ac see if it will turn on.
One thing is sure here, your system is not getting power from the AC,
The light blinking when you have the Battery in is an indication that the battery power is low and it is not charging.
Your troubleshooting steps leaves the AC and the (Power system-DCjack or motherboard) the culprit.
Your System also has a DC in Jack part like this
    Part number 31048400
    PIWG2 DC-IN CABLE-15.6
that might also be the cause.
You can check your system Maintenance Manual about how to go about checking this.
I would suggest to Call Lenovo Technical Support for assistance if your not comfortable about opening the Laptop.
    Best Regards

  • HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop computer will not power on

My HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop computer (s/n CNF72132WJ, p/n GH783EA#ABU) will not power on - it gives 1 long beep followed by 3 short beeps and then does nothing. I've been told that the problem is the NVIDIA graphics card but am unable to find this part in the HP Parts Store. Is the NVIDIA graphics card a separate purchasable item for an HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop computer or is it integrated into the system board (p/n 443774-001)?
Where in the UK can I purchase either a replacement NVIDIA graphics card or a replacement system board (p/n 443774-001)?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me with this problem.

The Nvidia graphics card is soldered on to the motherboard and you need to replace motherboard for the Notebook to work according to your diagnosis.
The Part# - 443774-001 is Out of stock and curent not available in HP Parts store however I just did a search for you on Ebay UK website and was able to find it in search results over here

  • Macbook Pro will not power on without battery installed

    Hi there,
I have a Macbook Pro A1226 that fails to power on without a battery installed.
i.e. will not run off AC power on its own. I have tried 2 other power adapters, no change. All 3 adapters are outputting the correct voltage without fluctuations.
But, if I am in OSX with a battery plugged in, shutdown the laptop, remove the battery while AC is still plugged in, it will power back on without any issues. But as soon as I remove the battery, it will not power back on using just AC.
Is this an I/O board issue, or a mainboard?
I have power drained the unit and reset the parameter ram.
    Thanks

Any update on this? This is the same thing that's going on with my laptop right now. I was at the Genius Bar and they said they can send it in for repair. Takes 7-9 days and costs a minimum of $310. At the time I was there, my computer wouldn't start up at all, because the battery had drained to less than 20%. It didn't even start with just the power cord (no battery in). The "genius" finally got it to work by doing a PRAM and SMC reset. Got home and was able to recharge my battery to 100%. Used my computer for 2 days before I dared to take it off the power supply. Lo and behold, as soon as I take it off the power cord, then re-connect it, it shows "Not Charging". I tried to do SMC again, but no luck. Keeps saying "not charging". Even tried with a brand new battery. Do I have to get the I/O board thingy replaced?

  • HP Pavilion dv6000 will not power up.

I have had an HP Pavillion dv6000 for a few years, and suddenly, it will not power up at all.  I can not determine that anything at all happens when I press the power button.  What's weird is that when I connect the power, the AC LED (the one with the lightning bolt above it) lights, and stays lit for 30 seconds, and then turns off.  During that time, and thereafter, the power light will not come on at all, and the computer will not power up.  I have tried removing the battery and power cord and holding the power button for 45 seconds, multiple times, but nothing seems to work.  I hope you can offer some advice on things to try.
    Thanks,
    Zach

Well, I've had the problem for a while and was just looking around to see if anyone has had any success stories.
I will tell you how I get mine up and running, but first some background. I was gifted this computer DOA and asked to retrieve data which I was able to do but in monkeying around, I discovered a "fix".
You see, I live in an area where we occassionally lose power for a day or two or three so the weakened battery never outlasts the outage. That's when the unit becomes unstartable.
    Now the fix:
It is a variation of all the other suggestions about undoing the power cord and disconnecting the battery but here's the twist: After removing the battery and power cord, wrap your laptop in one then another plastic shopping bag and place it in the freezer for about an hour or two. Now, when you take out your shivering laptop, plug in the power cord and fire her up. It has nearly always started for me after this trial by cold but once or twice it needed more chillin'. Once it is started, insert the battery. I've never had any issues with this sequence.
You will have a lot of condensate on the screen but gently wipe it up with an absorbent cloth and let the rest of air dry as you let it run.
As long as I leave the computer plugged in and not reliant on the battery, it has never died on me.
    Hope this helps!

  • Ok, so basically my charger fell apart on my MacBook pro(2010) and I didn't have the money for a new charger, I got it in the states too if that's relevant. Basically my laptop will not charge, I bought a new charger yesterday and it's still no-use

Ok, so basically my charger fell apart on my MacBook pro(2010) and I didn't have the money for a new charger, I got it in the states too if that's relevant. Basically my laptop will not charge, I bought a new charger yesterday and it's still no-use,not charging . No green or orange light coming on on the new charger either.

It is one of the items that Apple gets criticized at regular intervals. The MagSafe connector is proprietary and unlicensable, so the company has a lock-in on the power options. And as you have now found out, your hijinks trying to avoid buying an expensive new charger may have caused more damage and led to a total no-charge condition.
If lucky and no physical damage has occurred (there IS a fuse in there somewhere on the circuit boards), maybe resetting the SMC can restore charge functionality, provided there is still enough juice: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • R61 will not power on, no beeps or POST

My R61 only blinks green power / amber battery for a second and will not turn on.  No beep, no POST.
Recently the original battery in the R61 went from about 60% capacity to 3% capacity overnight.  Since I had purchased used, I suspected the generic power supply I had bought about a year ago when I got the R61.  I ordered an authentic Lenovo power supply, but still got only 3%.  All was well since I was using the Thinkpad plugged in to the Lenovo power supply (also worked with generic) but about three days ago the laptop would not power on.
My roomate suggested that the bad battery might be to blame and that I should try it without the battery.  I tried it, but still only get green power / amber battery lights for a second and then it shuts down.  I have already tried the 10 power button pushing with 30 sec hold after and no response.  I just re-set the RAM and back-up battery (also 1 yr. old) to make sure they had not been jostled loose.
Would a new battery help or is the R61 damaged?  Don't have much cash, so don't want the possibly damaged R61 to ruin a new battery.  Any ideas or is my best bet to buy another R61 / T61 and make use of my RAM, DVD, and HDD?
P.S. I know there are similiar threads already, but none have a solutions and they are about 3 yrs. old.
    Thinkpad R61-Product # 7733-11U - 2.0 GHz C2D Centrino / 4GB RAM / 80GB HD / Intel 965 / Intel WIFI / BT / DVD/CD-RW / 1280x800 / WXGA / Win 8.1 / elementary OS Luna
    Thinkpad X40 Model # 2371-8EU-niece's new toy

I know this is hard to take but that product line has had known board failures because of it design and chipset. There is basically nothing much you can do to resurrect it at this point in time once that problem has appeard. The most likely failure of this model line was the video chipset that would fail on these boards. If the problem was caught earlier and the heat sink was redone that might have prevent the video from failing causing no boot in your case. But that is what I see and read that these units had lots of video chipset failures and only two of which I fixed the thermal sink on one that is still running and another cleaned out much of the dust as I could and is still working. So I think once this model line hits the black screen boot that usually means it's a gooner.

  • T60 will not power up (battery status led green, power status led green)

Ok so I have been researching this for a couple days now. Trying various things............
Including the famous 10 second power button press discharge.........
    Symptoms:
1st Disclaimer - coffee was exploded all over the laptop but has been running for a month.
    Symptoms:
It has been working post coffee spill (several weeks ago) as long as you left it running. I get cocky and turn it off then it wont come back on.
The laptop has exhibited the inability to power on since but I have been able to get it  to turn on several times since.
green power light comes on with AC adapter only
plug battery in and the battery light goes green
press the power button - both lights go out
I replaced the keyboard, battery, tested for 20 Volts on the AC adapter, tested for 2-3 volts on the CMOS battery.
I tried testing for 20 volts on the motherboard where the power supply cable connects. I have most of the laptop broke down still.
I did get it running again last night as a result of me incorrectly using the multimeter and short circuiting the power supply connector .
It booted up and ran fine and I even tried turning it off and on again several times.
I thought it might be a heat issue. I turned it off and tried to turn it on this morning and it will not power up.
    Same symptoms as before.
no battery, only power connected, green light comes on, plug in the battery, battery light goes green, try to turn it on and the lights go out.
It seems like it is fixable but I am not sure what to look for next.
Or should I be looking for another system board...........if so what should I replace it with
