    Hello -
    Try this:
    - When you receive the error message that is described in the "Symptoms" section, click Restart.
    - Press F8 repeatedly as your computer begins to restart. This triggers the Windows Advanced Options menu.
    - Use the arrows on your keyboard to select Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER.
(Also, You can try Safe Mode and do a "System Restore" from there.)
***Last Resort, you will have to edit the registry and this may prevent your computer from booting***
    - boot your system and tap away at F8
    - Select Safe Mode
    - After Windows loads into safe mode.
    - Start >> Run >> “regedit” Press Enter.
    - Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
    - Look for the GinaDLL Key
    - Select and delete this key and this key ONLY. DO NOT delete the entire Winlogon folder of keys.
    - Close Regedit with the RED "X"and reboot the machine

Ipad2 will not start ,just dead.battery is charged

Mine had a similar thing happen after a few weeks, except that mine wouldn't even start until I'd done the reset - I havn't had a problem since. Unless you start getting regular problems I wouldn't get too concerned. And it may have been caused by apps that you've downloaded, so it may not necessarily be down to the operating system or Apple's apps - but no code is bug free.

  • HELP urgently needed: My Sandberg FireWire for Laptop will not start on my T60

Let me start with information on my T60:
    OS information: Microsoft Windows XP
OS version: 5.10.2600   Service Pack 2
    Processor: x86 Family 6 Model 14 Stepping 8
    Memory: 3.135.856 kb
    BIOS version: 2.09  (79ETC9WW)
    Machine type-Model: 1951A47
I have just got a new Sandberg FireWire for Laptop, a PC Card with 3 6-pins connectiont. After inserting the card in the PC Card slot, the Windows Device Manager tells me that there are problems with the card. Looking at the 1394 Card Properties the status says:
"This device cannot start. (Code 10) - Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."
The troubleshooter did not solve my problem. I have tried disconnecting, re-connection, shut down Windows and start again etc.
At Sandberg Help Desk they tell me that I have two slots in my laptop, one with a 16 bits bus and another with a 32 bits slots, and I should use the latter. It seems that I can use the lower slide only in my laptop and I cannot push the card into the upper slide. There is not enough room for it.
Here is what I found on Lenovo's support site on my type & model:
     PC Card
Conforms to the PC Card Standard 95
    Type II slot
Both the 16-bit Release 2.1 card standard and the 32-bit CardBus card are supported.
Have a look at these screen captures.
What should I do to solve my urgent problem!?

Sounds to me like a driver configuration problem.  Maybe something bad happened during driver install.  I would recommend uninstalling the device from device manager by right clicking on it and hitting uninstall.  Reboot the computer.  Have a go at it again.  Also, test your pcmcia port functionality by finding and plugging in a different card.  See if that works.  It might need repair.

    The status right now is:
The PC Card reader works on my T60
If I use a Firewire PC Card it will not start - as described above (on T60)
The PC Card work properly on my T61P - and I succeeded importing a video file from a digital camera using the Fireswire PC Card.
So what does a wise man do in this situation??
Please help me as I urgently need to know how to solve this serious issue!!
Have you got an idea? Can I import the video in another way??

  • I Mac with 10.6.4 will not start dial keeps spinning?

I Mac 20" with 10.6.4 will not start dial below apple keeps spinning?

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Urgent HELP needed: Address Book will not start, just spinning wheel.

When I want to start the Address Book I just get the spinning wheel without end.
If I press: Command-Option-Esc to force-quit the application I am informed that the Address Book is not responding; I can only force-quit the application.
Since my AB data is also on MobileMe and another computer, I could, if necessary, delete whatever data files (and repopulate later). But how do I get Address Book working again?
Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks, Veit

Thanks, Roam, for the referral to Pacifist; sounds useful in the future.
I could solve my problem by:
    - deleting the com.apple.AddressBook.plist file
    - resetting the synchronization files as described in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10868689&#10868689
    - and finally syncing with MobileMe, i.e. overwriting the computer with data from MobileMe.
All seems to work again, also the resizing. Thanks again for your help. Cheers, Veit

  • Imac will not start up... wheels keep spinnin then shut off..

My imac does not start up. I tried resetting the PRAM, PNUM, all of that stuff and to no avail. What happens is the grey apple screen comes on, the wheels start spinning, then it just shuts off. I got the tiger disk in there and I press control/command s and it brings me to a blue screen that show my HD and the start up disk. I cannot select the start up disk for the life me. My mouse won't move over, nothing. When my mac was working, I couildnt delete some files that were in my trash and I went to my terminal and enter the command to start in safe mode, because I was having a problem manually starting in safe mode. But the problem is I think I have/got some sort of virus that is attacking my safe mode, because safe mode never ever kicked on. So now my computer is simply gone...HELP>>>>>>>
    Doobs

First off, you have the keystrokes wrong.
Command-S will startup in single user mode, and can be used to repair the directory if the machine has enough free hard disk space. See my FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/directoryfaq.html
Shift key will startup safe mode so you can startup without any drivers running.
    Control-Command-S will do nothing.
Option can be used to startup the optical disc with the startup manager:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106178
There are no Mac OS X viruses out there. Is your data backed up?
Have you checked your free space*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/diskfull.html
And has the clock battery been replaced in the last 4 years?
PNUM is not an acronym dealing with Macs, though PRAM is.

  • Mac mini shut down on its own, will not restart, grey screen, spinning wheel. Unplugged everything, will still not restart. Did safe boot, will not restart after safe boot, only grey screen with spinning wheel.

Mac mini shut down on its own. Could not restart, chime, grey screen and spinning wheel. Unplugged everything but monitor, still only chime, grey screen and spinning wheel. Started in safe boot, shut Down, will not restart.
This happened a couple of months ago, unplugged everything and it restarted, now that won't work.

    Hi BDAqua,
I just did the repair as you suggested. T ran the disc repair, and twice it cam back, the volume macintosh seems ti be okay, I also ran the verify and permissions repair, both came back okay.
I was actually hoping that they would find something, so they could repair. I shut the computer down, and restated with out holding a key, and I started up great. I'm baffled.  I have moved 20 GB to an external hard drive, as I only had 10% open space.
I have Tech Tool 6, would you recommend to run a repair check on that, or just leave well enough alone.
I agree with you on the new Mac's, I have problems with no disc for back up, until they realize their mistake I will stay with Snow a Leopard. This is the first problem I have experienced, so I can't complain. Their last programs are not as perfected as under Steve, prior to his handling over the reins, hope this is not going to be the future we can expect from Apple.
I will wait to here back as to your suggestion regarding the Tech Tool check
    Thanks for all your help.
    Gratefully,
    Cheri

  • HT1277 my email displays but will not open, just the spinning icon

My email displays but will not open in my laptop or ipad.  I just keep getting the spinning icon.  I can recieve emails on my iphone.  Any suggestions?

If Mail.app will launch on OS X and you can get to the Preferences settings and related, see the Apple Mail.app troubleshooting article for some suggestions.  From there, get that working, then compare the differences between what's working and connecting, and what's not — the Connection Doctor and the Activity window should give you a pretty good idea of where things are hanging up — if not directly what's wrong — when troubleshooting the OS X Mail.app connection.

  • Iphoto will not open, only a spinning wheel,  how do i find problem??

i have no idea how this happened but my iphoto will not open no matter what. if i try & open iphoto i only get a spinning wheel & it never opens, if i try & open a picture using iphoto same result !! my picture library seems to have vanished as well, if this sounds familiar please advise....

Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. With information, s/he may be able to get your issue resolved sooner.

  • Cannot open jpgs Preview will not shut down, color spinning wheel present

Trying to open jpgs and all I get is the spinning color
wheel. The files will not open.
Preview will not shut down even with apple prompt
of instructions on how to do so.
First aid in the OS10 utilities has seemed to disappear, but its still there for OS9.
I've been opening hundreds and hundreds of jpgs the last few weeks, printing and dumping duplicate images, etc...
    And now I get this.
Ideas on how to clear this problem up? And ideas as to what the problem is?
    thx - Craig

It sounds like it might be a good idea to run the disk utilities (applications/utilities/disk utility) and run the repair disk permissions. I have found that this often solves these oddball problems.
Try completely restarting everything. Run preview before clicking on anything and try opening one of these items from the file menu. does it make a difference? If so, do "get info" on a jpeg image and see if preview is the default viewer for it. If not, that may be your problem. If you have another preferred application you may want to set all your jpegs to open in that application until you get preview straightened out. Best of luck!
