Laptop Will Shut Down and Reboot

I have a Toshiba A305-S6872 I replaced the hard drive about a year ago, Have a new Power Adapter, I use a cooling pad The Laptop just started to Reboot itself or just turn off. Is there any PC health Check to do what's causing this? I see several posts for people with Laptops that have the same problem but no replies from Toshiba, How can you tell if its a hardware or Software problem. Thank You
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Thank you all I tried everything even new hard drive, new ac adapter here while doing a google search someone said they had the same problem the laptop reboots and also the touchpad would freeze. The Solution was go under Device Manager then under Processors if it shows 2 of the same which mine showed 2 Intel Core Duo CPU T5800, they said the second one click disable and restart. I did this and No more Reboot and No more Freezing with the touchpad. Thats all it took laptop works fine now. If anyone else has the same problem with the Satellite they might want to try this. Thank you all for the replies sorry it took so long to get back I was out of commision with spine surgery. Thanks again all
Here is the post that I got the solution from
Dear Friend,
I had this similar issue & had tried all the steps as mentioned below.
One thing was notices that the laptop would work perfectly fine in SAFE MODE.
Which had the doubts in mind cleared that there is no hardware issue on the laptop.
Tried the following steps & it worked. Even the laptop processing power reduced slightly but laptop works without any more reboots, freeze & all.
Boot the system in SAFE MODE.
go into control panel - system & device manager
there you would find processors.
Of the two processors click on the second processor & disable the same. & after applying restart the laptop as usual.
Voila laptop works perfectly fine at all conditions. Even the power the supply is plugged in which wasn't before doing the above step.
Try Out & Do let know..

  • X shuts down and reboots

Has anyone experienced the phone shutting down and rebooting. I can have my phone sitting next to me and it will go to a black screen and the eye pops up and reboots.

Rebooting of the DX was the major point why I returned that phone.
I had my DX for 4 days and it was rebooting constantly, about 7 - 9 times a day.
VZ tech told me that it is a known issue with DX and therefore I returned it thinking to get Incredible.
However, my brother-in-law that has Incredible and his phone reboots too (though not as often as my DX). That makes me thinking what if problem is not a phone (Droid X) in particular, rather than Moto Blur skin or Android OS in general.
I was reading that rebooting may in fact be related to Advance Task Killer if it is being set to Auto-Kill mode as it could be killing some running processes which are required by OS.If Auto-Kill is disabled and applications are being killed manually it should resolve reboot problem.
DX hardware has 512 MB of RAM but in my case I was ending up with less than 50 MB (less than 10%) of RAM only after an hour of phone just sitting there without single application being touched by myself. I understand that about 200 MB is being used by OS and another 100 MB is being used by all essential subprocesses (Moto Blur) but that should leave me with 200 MB of RAM not 50. Those little pesky bloatware programs that VZ forces on you should be either disabled, uninstalled, or not being loaded into memory constantly.
In regards to controversy of needed or not Advance task killer, I am personally felling that I needed that just to kill all of the bloatware that VZ placed on that phone and which is being loaded constantly into memory. So as far as I am concern, issue with reboot is all VZ fault and that is why this is a "known issue" for them.

  • Shutting down and rebooting from xfce4 (SOLVED)

I am wanting to shut down and reboot my system via xfce4. right now the two buttons are grayed out. I tried added myself to the power group by doing
    gpasswd -a username power
That didn't seem to do anything at all. On the wiki, it talks about using dbus and hal (as an alternative to doing the sudo method) but i already have dbus and hal started by default and the two buttons are still grayed out.
if there is already a message like this please guide me there. Any help would be appreciated.
CORRECTION: adding myself to the "power" group did work.

Strange - I used the sudo-hack and it worked for me. But after it stopped working, I saw the new instructions and enabled both hal and dbus and voila, everything worked.
I did not add myself to the sys-group, so it should be something else. Did you install the whole xfce4-package or did you select certain packages? check if '# /etc/rc.d/hal restart' and '# /etc/rc.d/dbus restart' change anything...
    Zl.
Fyi: i installed xfce4 and xfce4-goodies. I'll try your codes now.

Bottom line: Uninstall the Google Maps update by going to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Maps and hitting the Uninstall Updates button.
There is a bug in the GPS driver.  Lenovo claims to be working on it.  Do not install the maps update until Lenovo fixes it.

Because there is something wrong with the iPad? Try restoring the device with iTunes. Start with that.

  • I have ipad mini 2 updated to ios 7.1.2.  Now ipad keeps shutting down and rebooting to the apple logo. I factory reset and redownloaded software in recovery mode.  Still happening.  What else can I do?

I have ipad mini 32gb.  I updated to IOS 7.1.2. Since then ipad keeps shutting down and rebooting to the apple logo.  It happens so many times I cannot use the ipad.   I have tried factory reset and reinstalled software in recovery mode. Ipad is only 1 1/2 years old and in great condition.  Is there anything else I can do besides soend $200 to fix it?

Sounds like a hardware issue to me going by the CRC error you mentioned. I'd make a Genius Bar reservation (you'll need your Apple ID) if you have a nearby Apple Store and get it evaluated. The evaluation is free but repair/replacement could incur other charges.

  • Shut down and Reboot problems

    Hi All
I hope I can find help for my problem as it is getting really frustrating. I have Lenovo X230 tablet which used to run fine until it suddenly will not shut down or reboot. The screen will turn black however the small led lights on power and other button
will remain on and the the laptop will remain like this until I press the power button to physically shut it down. When I tried to restore the system to an earlier point, the laptop will not reboot and I had to press the button again to shut it down and then
power it up. It showed after that reboot was successful but to no avail. I tried to reboot it to even an earlier point (still I had to manually reboot it) but it failed. All drivers are up to date and I always install Windows updates as soon as they are out.
Still I have to push the power button when I install new windows updates when reboot is required because the screen will go black as I already mentioned with the power still on. I do hope to get helo with this.
    Thank you

    Hi,
As this problem occures with no symptoms, in my opinion, it would be better to make system restore to revert your system to a former normal time point for test.
If the problem persists after system resotre successfully, it would be better to contact Lenovo support to check Hardware problem.

  • Laptop suddenly shuts down and won't open

Hello guys!   So I was using my laptop in my bed and suddenly, it shuts down and I don't know why. I thought it was low batt so I tried putting the charger but it won't charge. Please help me..

The "do something with the battery" you're referring to would be to unplug it for a minute. You can go to ifixit.com and get detailed instructions on how to do it for your model. The other thing I'd suggest, though I'm not sure it'll work with your machine in this condition, is to reset the SMC. You can try.

If your MPB is a 2009 or later, follow the "for a battery you should not remove" instructions.

    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
Try with resetting the Laptop from “Emergency reset button” at the bottom of the system, use the below link for further assistance, and follow as instructed in that.

  • Laptop keeps shutting down and restarting after touchpad dies

Trying to decide ehat went wacky on a friend;s Toshiba SATELLITE S105-3713 laptop (running WIndows Vista Home Premium).
FIRST: touchpad just stopped working; I hodeb up an external mouse and checked out the device manager - no touchpad existed at all!  Went rhough Control Panel - same thing!  As if there were no touchpad installed.
THEN:  Decided to donwlad and reinstall the driver but  as I typed it was as if something else had control of the keybaord - characters I entered were deleted as if the backspace key had been hit, or I selected a website and no sooner got there but I was returned back to the initial search screen.
Ran a quick anti-virus scan and came up with nothing.  Then I deleted the old Synaptic Touchpad  driver, rebooted and re-installed the driver from a flash drive (I had downloaded from the Toshiba support site using another PC).  Still no touchpad finction and system still behaving as if a ghost had contgrol of the keybaord and the pinting device.
NOW HERE IT GETS WEIRD!  Decided to shut the laptop down for the night but each time it shut down it staarted right up again!  Finallyhad to pull the power cord and the battery.
So...is it possible there is a nasty virus in here?  Or could a system short / partial failure cause this crazy behavior?
This is a backup system for my friend - has anew laptop with all current data on it so this one is not critical.
Should I try reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling the OS?  Or could htere be a hardware problem not worth fixing?
    Help!  Thanks  - Cindy
