Laptop Won't Boot. Caps Lock Button Light Blinking

I just bought a HP Pavilion DM4-2015dx laptop a few days ago.  Turning it on this morning, it won't boot and the Caps Lock light  is blinking.  I have searched the HP site and Google for a solution to the problem and have found nothing to tell me what the blinking light means or why it won't boot up.  Does anyone have an idea of what the blinking light on the Caps Button means?

My laptop HP pavilion Dv6 - 7132TX had a problem of blank screen and caps lock key blinking. I bought the laptop on 28th Apr 2012 and just before completing a year, I was facing a problem of computer inadvertently not booting. It used to show black screen with wifi LED red, power button LED glowing, and caps lock key LED blinking. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&docname=c01443366 On going to the above link, I tried to notice the number of blinks of caps lock key  LED.Found that the blink count was an endless loop of 2 LED blinks. On checking in the above link, found that 2 blinks meant the problem was BIOS corruption failure. LEDs blink 2 times BIOSBIOS corruption failure(as found in the table in the above link) So I went on and found another link to find the BIOS upgrade on the same page , where it read, Step 3: Find and download BIOS updates Then followed to the link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?swlinkmsg=100&cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c00042629&lc=en&product=4057208 to download the driver. Downloaded the BIOS latest driver and installed it. It gave the same problem while restarting the laptop which was required to complete the bios installation. Link for the BIOS installation: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54501-55000/sp54629.exe However after several force shutdowns and reboots (since in my laptop the blank screen during bootup was inadvertent and random..) the installation could proceed and complete. After that voila.. Problem gone Hopefully it stays that way. Now next task on my mind is to fix the sleeping problem of my PC and the noise problem of the speakers. 1.Laptop does not sleep and goes into freeze mode with LEDS glowing and screen black.2.While the laptop speakers are on, they constantly make some background noise as if the speakers have a loose connection. However I got a clue that the problem is not with the connections but with the frequencies mismatch. Inherent problem of laptop architecture I suppose. However still wish to hear sounds clearly on my laptop. Had a good experience with HP with my earlier laptop from HP. However now things are changing I guess. Feel good that I could at least troubleshoot and save money. [Even gas is Rs. 84 per litre.] and more importantly time since I was working when I saw this problem and did not want to keep laptop powered on All the time just to avoid restart .

  • Laptop won't boot caps light and Num light blink

My Ts2-1375dx won't boot after I have shut it off and turned it back on. I get the cap & num lock lights blinking once. I remove the powercord, battery and all attached peripherals, hold the on button for 30 seconds reconnect the power and try booting again. Although this works (maybe after 1-3 tries) I don't believe that this is the way you should have to boot the computer. I also see lots of the same problem with the solution being the method I use. WHY IS THERE NO PERMANT FIX?!?!

  • Envy M6 Won't Boot, Caps Lock Blinks Twice

My wife's laptop automatically installed some HP updates Thursday.  After they installed, the laptop rebooted but only completed the shutdown portion.  During the bootup portion, it never POSTs.  It just sits there, blank screen, fan whirring, wireless radio light on (orange) and the caps lock light blinking twice every 4 or 5 seconds.  I've also noticed that when I have a thumb drive in one of the USB ports, it powers up even when the laptop is off.  And when I turn the laptop on, I see access flashes on thumb drive.
I've tried disconnected the batteries, laptop and CMOS, with no luck.  I've tried the hard reset procedure (WIN + B and then hold power for a second), with no luck.  When I removed both sticks of RAM, it beeped properly.
What options are available to me?

    Hi @J1mM ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP ENVY TouchSmart m6-k022dx Sleekbook and getting a blank or black screen on startup after updating. Try performing a hard reset.
When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.
Here is a link to computer won't start for Windows 8.
If that does not help at the end of the document it shows you to do a hardware test.

  • Won't boot, Caps Lock light blinking, black screen, tried everything I could.

Hello! This is a problem that even made me scratch my head. It started two days ago: blinking light, black screen etc. (It was double-blinking, which mean't BIOS corruption). I looked around the HP forums for help and tried what I could find (keyboard combination, making a recovery disc out of a memory stick, which failed), but nothing worked. This sorta thing has happened before, but somehow it managed to revive itself, so naturally I ignored it, because I didn't expect what was to happen next, which is right now. Incase I can't get any help from here, I'm gonna buy an new motherboard, but what I am really expecting for is that the fix will not hurt my wallet and not buying a new motherboard. Hoping to get a response as soon as possible and not this to be overlooked. Perhaps this post will help other people in the future (Who knows?). Anyway, thank you for your attention.

Hi  , Thank you all for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6-7000sy Notebook and startup issues.  Here is a link to computer will not start.  I would start at the top and work my way down. Mine was fixed with reseating the HDD. Others have had it fixed with just reseating the Memory. Here is a video that shows you how to remove and reseat the HDD and memory. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues.  You could reset the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. Which has helped others as it restores the default settings. If you should get the system started again, I would run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics, It will tell you if something is failing. I hope something here helps any one of you fix the Notebook. Thanks.

  • My laptop won't boot and caps lock blinking continuously (1blink in 4 sec.)

    Sir,
Today morning I turned on laptop but laptop won't boot and wireless button glowing continuously and also caps lock blinking continuously as 1 blink per 4 sec.

do you mean 1 blink repeating and then a pause and 1 blink repeating again? The diagnostics show that as a CPU not functional issue.http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-15-Notebook-PC-series/6529948/model/6622489/document/c01732674#AbT2   Try a hard reset.Follow the instructions at the following web page.http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-15-n209tx-Notebook-PC-(ENERGY-STAR)/6529948/model/6622489/document/c01684768 If a hard reset does not help, then contact HP for warranty service.  Is your notebook still in warranty?Check your warranty status Here.

  • HP Pavilion DV3 ( Scroll & Caps Lock LED's blinking four times + Blank Screen )

    Hi,
I have an HP Pavilion DV3-2157cl
When I press the power button, the screen remains blank. Also, the scroll & the Caps Lock buttons keep blinking four times.
Sometimes, the laptop works like nothing's wrong but Most of the time, it remains blank with the blinking lights!
    Can anyone help me?

i had a problem with my dv3 (blank screen keeps flashing) and used this method to reflow the graphics card/chip (see link below).  only try this method if you are at your wits end... and you are skilled with taking apart/putting together electronics.  it will take you a minimum of 1 hour (but most likely, about 2).  you will need a heat gun (about $10 - $20).
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SziIr34Md0g
to prevent it from continually over heating, you can try the penny mod (google it).  that's what i did.  you basically take a penny and sand off both sides until it is the right thickness and solder it onto the heatsink.  you'll need to remove the sticky blue foam that HP used instead.
i also noticed that a laptop cooler placed under your laptop works well for keeping it cool.  it can be fixed again and again using the method above but it is time consuming.  to prevent getting a cold connection which leads to this problem, don't move the laptop.  yes, it sucks that you can't move it but that's the only option you have.

  • Pavilion G2-b27SA Laptop Won't Boot - Fan Whirs and Hard Disk Light Comes On but Nothing Else

    Hi
My Pavilion G2-b27SA laptop won't boot. The fan whirs, the hard disk and wirless lights come on but nothing happens on-screen and the fan goes quiet after a couple of seconds (to a low whir).
I've gone through and tried the solutions in this thread - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-e-g-Windows-8/Laptop-will-not-turn-on/td-p/102825 - with no luck. Specifically, I've tried a hard reset and hitting F10 when the laptop tries to boot. Neither has had any effect.
Is there anything else I can try to get the computer working again? If I take it to a laptop repair shop (I'm out of warranty) will they be able to do anything, or is it effectively dead now?
Thanks in advance for your help.

The laptop can always be fixed if you have a bottomless wallet. On a no-start with flashing lights it is likely the motherboard and a motherboard replacement if you have the shop buy the board and bill you for labor will be about $300 give or take 25%. Before we give up, it could be bad memory or a few other less expensive things. Assuming they do not charge too much just to diagnose it; take it to the shop.

  • Caps lock button works in reverse!

    Dear All,
this is my problem: the caps lock button (with green LED) on my MacBook Pro 13 "mid-2009, works in reverse! When the LED is on (green light) I type lowercase fonts, when the LED is off I type uppercase fonts!
I tried everything: booting from an external disk with different operating system from mine (I use MacOSX 10.7.5), reset PRAM, reset SMC, removed the internal battery, made test hardware, Disk Warriors, etc.. I brought the laptop at an Apple-authorized center where they tried all they know, but nothing was found.
I called Apple support and the guy suggests me to format the disk (I don't make it, and sincerely it's not seems the solution for me.
However, someone tells me something to do?
Thanks in advance for all your answers.
    Ennio Busato (from Italy)

    Hi,
I just followed the steps “Before resetting the SMC” and afterwards the steps to set up the SMC, BUT THE PROBLEM STAYS AGAIN.
Now, I want try to remove the internal hard disk and start with an external hard disk (or with a CD); in this mode I want to see if the problem is related to the HD/System or to the motherboard.
    Thanks.

  • Laptop won't boot, no diagnostics or errors

    HP Pavillion dv6-6c54nr
    Win7 Home x64
We've had the laptop for 2-3 months and it was working fine.  Now it just won't boot up.  No lights, no progress, no fan/hard drive activitiy.  Nothing.  Basically, hitting the PowerOn button does nothing.
The only light that will display is the one near the power cord input, when the power cord is plugged in.
I have searched the forums and attempted the following, with no success.
    -hard reset,
    -using the battery only,
    -using the power cord only,
-popping out the memory modules and trying one at a time in each slot.
When I took the cover off to access the RAM modules, I noticed the component that is left of the memory modules and above the DVD drive had a cable popped off.  It has a black cable labeled #1 and a white cable labeled #2.  The black cable is the one that was off.
I tried to put it back and manually hold it in place with a non-conductive material (a dry-erase eraser...basically compressed styrofoam) while I re-plugged the power and attempted to boot-up.  This didn't fix the problem either.
I've exhausted all the relevant online help and forum suggestions that I could find.  Given the boot problem and the bad connector I'm wondering if I just got a bad unit with poor soldering and some other component also got loose that is preventing the system to boot up.
I appreciate any additional suggestions to debug this, plus any resolution actions from HP about a replacement.   Thanks in advance!

That cable you saw was the antenna for the wireless. If you tried to reconnect the wiress antenna while the laptop is running you very well could have shocked the wireless card which bolts right into the motherboard. The wire should be connected to the wireless card before attempting to boot up. This is not an official HP Support channel so you need to contact HP Support about sending it in. I would kind of gloss over the whole disconnected wire thing when discussing it with the Tech. Your warranty should cover it (I hope). It also sounds like it was already dead before you noticed the displaced antenna wire so I am thinking nothing you did made the problem any worse.

  • Caps lock green light not working after coke spill. Help!?

    Hello.
I accidentally spilled some coke on my brand new macbook pro! I can't believe how horrible this year has been for me so far. I rarely even drink coke! Anyway, I cleaned my macbook with some dry towels, then some laptop cleansing wipes and then I used a vacuum cleaner to get all the liquid out from underneath the keyboard. Everything's working fine. It's just that my keys are super sticky. Any help with that? I tried taking the keys off and cleaning them - no luck so far.
Then I realized that the backlights from some of the keys aren't as strong as the other ones.. Can I do something about it?
Also today I realized that the green light from the caps lock button isn't working properly. It lights up whenever it wants to and such. Help?
If I was to take my laptop to get it fixed, what would it all cost me? My macbook is barely a month old and I've already caused such a chaos.
Could anyone give me a decent answer to my questions? It would be very much appreciated!

I'll take it to a friend who's an IT tomorrow. If he says that I must take it to the repair facility then I definitely will. Also, it wasn't a dollar can of coke. I had a glass which I didn't even take next to my MBP. Then for a second to plug in my charger, I put it down next to it and that happened. It's not sloppy care. I take care of it more than I've taken care of anything. Spilling coke on it was my mistake and I hope it'll never happen again. I am facing the consequences. For anyone else who's in the same situation or is just interested- I'll let you know how this works out.

  • G72-B61NR Laptop screen black;Num & Caps locks blinks; Hard Drive works fine

Hello everyone! I would like to get a solution to a problem I've been having with my laptop; if no solution, then a reason for my problem would be great. My laptop has recently stopped booting up correctly. Basically the screen is black and will not turn on. The NUM LOCK and CAPS LOCK LED lights flash a number of times before the computer shuts down. When I turn on the computer I can hear the fan and the hard drive running but no screen. I have been able to take out the hard drive from the laptop in hopes of salvaging important documents and I was able to do so by connecting it to a desktop. Is there anyway to fix my screen and save my laptop? Thank you in advance for any help.

Hello soTERRAble, welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you have a blank display with your notebook. I will try to help you with this.
From what you describe this could be indicating that something in the notebook is not working correctly, right now I wouldn't be able to tell you what but can provide you two documents that might be able to identify what.
Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps - this document may be able to assist you with the flashing LEDs your getting when trying to start the notebook. Watch to see if you can identify an error pattern. If you can compare it to the table in that document. This will provide an idea to what may be failing.
Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot - if the above document could not direct you to something failing, then follow this one.
Let me know where the above documents lead you.
Thank you for posting on the HP forums.

  • HP Envy Caps Lock Button... misbehaving?

Okay so this has been happening over the course of about 2 months. My Caps lock button randomly flashes at, well, random times, more than 6 times and over the duration of >15 seconds. I have no clue why! It still functions as a normal caps lock button even while doing this, and only does this after it's booted up. However, once it's stopped flashing, the light DOES NOT remain on after the button is pressed. This caused sheer terror today as I tried entering my passwords on multiple sites and they all came up as "wrong", although it was just the fact I could not tell the Caps Lock was on. My PC itself is working A-OK although I am anxious that maybe it is a sign of hardware failure, like in the fan? The fan has broken once before and I fear if this is the case and I send my PC back to HP's support facilities I will lose all my data again. Last time, my machine was completely wiped and permanently renamed "hp" . But really, this is SUPER annoying and really a waste of time! I fear the worst, but hopefully /someone/ knows what's going on. Thanks again, Ed

I'm not sure if you've resolved this issue but I solved the problem by removing the charger plug, then the battery.  While the battery is out, push the power button.  Reinstall the battery and reconnect power.  When the notebook rebooted, the caps lock light and num lock lights were once again working.

  • Caps lock button acting very strange.

I recently got a Lenovo T420 thinkpad. Everything has been great until earlier today I tried to log-in to buzzport ( a GT website) and when I hit the caps lock button all these weird things happened. Google Chrome went into full screen, and the "elements" thing came up. Im not sure exactly what it is, but it looks like some sort of HTML code for the website. oh and if it also enters the text "09" when caps lock is pressed. well anyways, now this happens everytime I press caps lock. I opened notepad and pressed caps lock. The result was "09" followed by an endless stream of 1's which continued until I pressed caps lock again. This is very strange and I couldn't find any information about this on google. I don't know what could have caused this, but its very frustrating because this is a brand new laptop. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
edit: so i've been playing with it, and im convinced that basically instead of just doing what caps lock does, it is pressing a series of other buttons as well including the 09, the 1's, and opening what i now know is called the elements pannel which normally opens with ctrl + shift + C. so in other words, for some reason pressing caps lock preses the buttons "09 ctrl + shift + C 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111"
edit 2: ok it just got weirder. I fixed the problem...sort of. I started thinking about everything i have done differently today. I mean ive only had the lap top for a few days after all. tonight is the first night i used the mute button. i unmuted the laptop, and now everything is fine. if i mute, then caps lock acts weird again. I could just always go to zero volume rather than mute, but just as a curiosity, why is this happening? it makes no sense!

I noticed that some problems don't seem to get attention. I am typing this using a bluetooth keyboard on top of my G4 PowerBook, which is hardly an elegant solution to my caps lock problem. If I spend close to $2000 on a laptop, which is close to the most I spend on any consumer product after a house and car, is it unreasonable to expect that after a mere four years, it can be repaired, rather than simply tossed aside. I am an expat living in a SE Asian country without any Apple Authorised resellers etc. When I make the trip to Thailand to get my machine fixed, I'd like to know that someone there will know what to do to sort this problem, without me being faced with the prospect of having to pay a lot of money to buy a new one or replace hardware that is not in fact needing replaced. That is why I posted on this forum. Was I mistaken in thinking that in the entire Mac using community, there isn't more than one other person having the same issue as me? Is anybody from Apple aware of this problem and do they have any idea how to fix it? I'm not seeking to be antagonistic here, I'd just like to think that somebody, somewhere out there has some idea, what has gone wrong with my PowerBook and can help me get it fixed.
p.s I sorted out the large fuzzy Apple on startup by zapping the PROM, so that doesn't seem to be directly connected to the game of green light tennis I can now play between my caps lock and num lock keys. (My caps lock key is permanently lit and when I try to turn it off, it reduces the volume of my speakers and "types" "rfr" and other such gobbledegook.)

  • HP laptop won't boot at all

My one and half year old Hp 2000 laptop won't boot at all. When I press the power button, it doesn't show any sign of life at all.
I have tried Hard test several times yet it didn't fix it.
    Battery charges, power adapter working.
I have also tried to boot using the AC adapter alone yet my precious laptop isn't showing any sign of life.
