Laptop won't power on after making three beeps

This thread has been moved to another message board. Click the link to jump to its new location.

I would start with the ram as stated above. There is a chance that it surged during the power outage causing damage to the board. Even if it has a built in surge protector in the ups, it can still surge typically up to 220v, just enough to cause damage. Try removing the battery, and with the power supply disconnected hold down the power button for 10 to 15 seconds. Put the battery back in and try to turn it on. Do the same with the battery out and the power supply conencted. This si to rule out static electricity, the charger, and the battery. You can also try removing the hard drive and attempt to turn it on. If all of thos do not work, your board will need repaired.

My laptop was having issues with keys(mixed keys) so I performed hard reset by removing the battery and the power connection then pressing the power button for 30 secs. But now my laptop won't power up.

  • Laptop won't wake up after closing lid

The laptop won't wake up after closing the lid. It hasn't happened before. There have been no updates or changes for a day or two. The power button light and the fan are on, the caps lock key is flashing, and the wireless light is orange instead of white, like it is when powered up. I have tried ctrl-alt-del, every fn key, the esc key, the pause key, and every comination of keys that made any sense and many that didn't. I tried disconnecting the power, removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds. I tried leaving the battery out while disconnected from power for 24 hours. I have looked at different forums for clues, but haven't found any help.
My next step will be to remove the hard drive to get the data, so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

    HI @tootall69
    Thank you for your reply.

  • Dv7 3085dx won't power on after adding 2nd hard drive

I'm attempting to add a 2nd drive to my laptop (dv7 3085dx). The drive is a Seagate Momentus 750GB drive (ST9750420AS). I purchased the drive caddy and connector from Newmodeus. The laptop will not power on after the drive is installed in the 2nd bay. Everything is fine if the drive is disconneted.
    Any ideas?

Are you absolutely sure you got the right caddy and cable from newmodeus? They sell several different ones for the dv7 series and they look similar but are not compatible with each other. I understand the reluctance to try hot-plugging it.

Can I update datas of Power Query after making relation tables in Power Pivot ?

Power Query use to transform web site to Power Pivot data model table.
Power Pivot use to making relasing tables, and making measuers.

    Hi Yoshihiro,
Can you share an example of the things you are doing in Power Pivot? There are some operations that prevent the query from being refreshed in Power Query; this is not ideal so we are currently working on fixing it.
    Thanks for your feedback.

  • Aluminium iMac won't power up after shutdown

    Hello All,
I have bought a 20" aluminium iMac for my parents a couple of weeks ago. It went extremely well in the first few days, but I got the complaint from my parents that it cannot power up after the proper shutdown.
It is very strange that it won't power up after it has been shutdown for a couple of hours, unless I unplug the power cord and plug it back in after a minute or so (reset the SMC)
Oppositely, I can power it up normally right after it has been shut down for a few minutes. But never overnight.
I have tried everything I know about like reset SMC and PRAM, as well as running apple diagnostic. Symptom still persist (though the diagnostic says nothing wrong with my hardware)
Is there anyone facing the same problem as me ?
    Thanks
    Jimmy

    Thanks Guys.
I haven't called Applecare yet. However, I have reinstall the system and done a software update EXCEPT the latest imac software update v1.1 released recently.
See if anything good happen tomorrow and will let you guys know
by the way, it's really great that Mac retains everything including the Apps and Desktop setting after the reinstallation......... nothing has to reinstall except the OS itself

  • HP 8510p laptop won't power up, lighting bolt light blinks six times and off.

HP 8510p laptop won't power up, lighting bolt light blinks six times and off.
Blank/black screen, fan/disk not moving. Nothing happen other than the light blinks and off.
Same problem for battery powered; battery + power adaptor or power adaptor only.

Hello tianhuat. I understand you're having some problems getting your notebook to power up. Try the following.
Remove the battery and AC power from the notebook.
Press and hold the power button for 20-30 seconds. This discharges the capacitors on the motherboard.
    Replace battery and AC power.
Try to boot the notebook and post the result.
Are you also getting a blinking CAPS LOCK or NUM LOCK pattern?

  • Dv9000 Adapter plug glows but laptop won't turn on - after I replaced motherboard

So I tried installing a replacement motherboard myself on my dv9700. Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem. Anyhoo, I got the old one out after much stress and got the new one hooked up to the power and connected all the cables and tried to get a BIOS boot. The lights, fan, and optical drive all came on for a second, then shut off, then came back on but no BIOS, so I manually shut it off after a half minute or so. Then I thought getting the OS drive connected might do the trick. No such luck - in fact now the computer won't power. I tried putting the old motherboard back - same luck. My IT friend came over and noted (and I know this sounds idiotic on my part) that I hadn't swapped the CPU and the heat sink onto the new motherboard. We moved them onto the new motherboard but still no joy. The adapter glows at the connection but obviously the power is not flowing to the rest of the laptop. I know I'm a bit hardheaded to try to attempt this myself but what's done is done. I'm wondering if any of you kind non-flaming souls could tell me what the problem might be. My IT buddy thinks that there might be a short somewhere but that he downplayed my worst fears that I fried the new motherboard since the computer was only on for seconds at a time.
Please help if you can with any ideas of what the cause might be - I'm probably taking it to another repair shop in a day or two but I'd like to be armed with some ideas. Thanks!

No flames but it is not looking good. I have done dv6000 and dv9000 motherboards and I rank them as about the hardest laptop repairs I have done. Not for the newbie. Trying to power on a board with no CPU and fan in place should not have fried it in and of itself but the fact that you did that makes me question the entire technique you used. One screw in the wrong place or one touch at the wrong time CAN fry it.

  • Iphone won't power on after screen replacement

So I've dropped my Iphone 4S once and screen showed blue vertical lines. I replaced the screen for about $120. After 6 months or so I dropped it again and the screen cracked. I decided to replace the screen on my own so I got a new one and replaced it, but the phone doesn't power on after the screen replacement. I plugged it on charger, did a hard reset but still nothing. I plugged it on pc and it was recognized by the itunes! As it was plugged on pc, I did a reboot again and it left itunes as if it was powered on and suddenly powered off. Still plugged in I tried to power it on again, it was recognized again by the itunes but the screen still wasn't working. Another thing is that it burns a lot without even being on charger or on pc, and I need to take the battery off.

Sorry. There's not much we can suggest. Apple won't touch that phone now.
Try looking for advice someplace like ifixit.com.

  • My laptop won't power on

My son accident dropped my laptop yesterday. Up until that point over never had a problem with it ever. Now it won't power on. I've tried the trick of taking out the battery unplugging it and then trying to power it on and still nothing. It's completely charged. The light comes on when it's plugged in. I have important files on my laptop so I need it to work again is there anything I can try?

At this point I would suggest pulling the hard drive. Insert it into a USB HDD Enclosure, plug into usb port of a working machine. If the hard drive is undamaged you should be able to browse it and copy important files over to hard drive of host machine.

  • HP 2000 Laptop won't power on

I have an HP 2000 that won't power up. When you press the power button, the light on the wireless/F12 button comes on, the the light on the caps lock button comes on and blinks serveral times. after that, the system shuts down. Tried removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds and retry startup, but no good. The warranty expired 10/25/12.
    Any ideas??

Thanks for all the tips on trying to determine the problem.
I get 6 flashes on the CAP lock key and then it shut down. Here is what the code chart says.
The BIOS authentication error (Blink code 6) is extremely rare. It is the result of a discrepancy between the BIOS and the hardware that is installed on the computer. This error occurs when the BIOS cannot authenticate signatures from the hardware on the system. The purpose of the BIOS authentication is to be sure that no one has tampered with the BIOS on the computer.
If a BIOS authentication failure occurs, the computer automatically performs a BIOS recovery. If the computer does not automatically recover the BIOS, manually perform a BIOS recovery. To manually perform a BIOS recovery, press all four arrow keys at the same time to cause the BIOS to go to the EFI partition to find and recover the current BIOS.
I tried the fix by hold all 4 arrow keys down on boot up, but no good.
    Any other ideas?

  • Laptop won't power on without AC adapter

    Hello, can someone help me??
I currently using dell inspiron 14R, 5437. I bought it last year and after 11 month using it, i found a major problem. At first my dell cannot charging up the battery, the notif tray says "pluged in not charging". So i use the warranty to fix this, after few weeks they say they ve replacing the battery and AC adapter with the new one.
But after only a few days, yes FEW days.. not even a week another problem occur:
-when the adapter is unplugged, laptop wont power up
-even if it power up, after few minutes it will turned of unexpectedly
-if i plugged in the adapter, laptop works just fine
-if i unplugged the adapter when laptop still on, it will stay turned on
I have trying few tricks like ejecting the battery then press the power button for 30sec, upgrading bios, reinstalling windows, but nothing seems works,,
Now the warranty has expired and i dont know what to do..
should i buy a new battery? Or new adapter? Or perhaps a new laptop?

Sounds like the replacement battery is defective or there is a problem with the system board.  I may be able to help,  I will send you a friend request to get your information, and go from there.

  • My mbp won't power up after update.

after running an app store update, (Xcode) my mbp won't power up and the battery lights are showing flat even though it was on charge over night.
the update was taking a long time, and it had a message saying something like deleting old files.
i went to bed and left it over night.
when i went back this mornng it had powered down, and the drained the battery even though it was plugged in.
now i can not power up, and i have tried the smc reset.
    please help.
    many thanks.

This is the standard Apple support article for your situation.  If you cannot try another adapter to try, I suspect a trip to an Apple store genius bar is in your future.

  • Rand new iPhone 5s black, dead, won't power up after ios 7 upgrade...held down top button, held down home button...dead. Was fully charged, working fine tell said yes to upgrade. HELP!!!

Brand new  iPhone 5s dead, black won't come on after ios update...is fully charged, was working fine till said yes to upgrade. Did not watch process beyond seeing Apple logo appear, left it alone, came back, dead. Tried holding top button, tried home button, nothing...HELP!!!

If iTunes does not recognize your iPhone even if it’s plugged in, you may need to put it into DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode. If you have to put the device in DFU mode, you will most likely be unable to back it up.
Hold Power button for 3 seconds and then the Power and Home together for 10 seconds (exactly).
Release Power but keep holding home until the your iPhone shows up in iTunes.

  • KT3v MS6712 System Won't power up after RAM upgrade

hello this is my first posting to this forum and I hope someone might be able to help on this as I am totally stumped.  I have been running my KT3V MS6712 mobo with 256MB since it was built. The manual for this mobo says it can handle up to 3GB RAM in any order or size. I have 3 DIMM slots and thought it would be more cost effective to just
purchase 1 DIMM leaving the other 2 slots free.  So I decided to  upgrade to 1GB and I bought a Kingston 1Gb PC2100 266MHz DIMM and installed it on my system.  Now my system won't power on at all. When I press the power button on the PC, the CPU fan spins for like 1-2 seconds then stops.  The system appears to be completely dead.  Cos I thought the problem was down to the new RAM installation I thought better put my old 256 DIMM back, however I still get the same problem. I have tried swopping both DIMMS into different slots but still doesn't work. The system was working fine until I did the RAM upgrade. I tried resetting the CMOS by moving the jumpers around in case it was a BIOS issue, still hasn't made a difference. Dunno if its the PSU which has suddenly gone, however seems strange. There are no beeps from the system or lights flashing to indicate anything.  I don't have
the D-Bracket installed either. I have also never upgraded the BIOS on this system as it has always been stable. The CPU is not overclocked. Has anyone had this problem before after a RAM upgrade?  Hope I have given you enough information

Suntek is perhaps not the best of PSU makers, but a sudden collapse is not so common. You normally notice problems earlier.
I took a big beating last time I said this , but it is important that there is no power in the system when changing memory sticks.
It sounds a bit like the processor went away for holiday. Have you any data on the processor temperature? Is there any activity at all? Does the processor heat sink get warm?
