Laptop Won't Recognize Ethernet Cable

Hi,
I'm having an issue with my HP laptop Product # A9Q25AV  - One day I got on to play an online game and  my computer would not recognize my ethernet cable. I went to device manager to see if there was an issue and I only found my wireless driver. I went to the HP website to download all the Network drivers and it never shows up on device manager after installation and still does not recognizee my ethernet cable. Please Help!
                                                                                                 Thanks

Usually there is a light that comes on when I plug my ethernet cable into my laptop but it won't trigger the light either. I have plugged the router up to a different computer and my Xbox and it works that way. But once I plug it into my laptop, there is nothing. The WiFi will pick up just fine, I would just rather have an ethernet connection.
Hi Good day! In relation to your issue, you have mentioned that you have already re-installed your network drivers moreover the wireless on your notebook is able to connect perfectly fine. Lastly if I got you correctly the ethernet you're using on this computer is the same ethernet you use for your xbox and its able to connect.   Considering your input, it is most likely that the adapter for your LAN/Ethernet is disabled.  How to fix the issue? 1. Disable wireless by pressing F12 key on your keyboard.2. Go to Network and Sharing Center and choose change adapter settings (located on the left part of the window)3. From there you will see your LAN/Ethernet Adapter and Wireless Adapter4. Right click on wireless adapter and choose disable on the selection5. Thereafter check Lan Adapter and make sure it's enabled Note: If your ISP is using Cable Technology (ex. Comcast, TWC etc.) You might need to do the "Sequential Powercycling" How to do Sequential Powercycling? 1. Turn off your Modem by unplugging the power cord together with your router (if there is any)2. Shut down your computer totally 3. Wait for one full minute, thereafter turn on only the Modem and wait for the Online light to be solid green4. As soon as the online light on your Modem is light up, turn on your router (if there's any)5. After 1 minute turn on your computer and from there it should be able to connect.  I hope this fixes the problem your having, otherwise reply with the result of the troubleshooting I provided so I can do you a follow up!  Have a great day!  Regards,Marc

  • Brand new 20" iMac won't recognize Ethernet cable - can't get online

I just got my iMac and cannot get the ethernet cable to recgonize. I know it works b/c I'm using it this very moment to type this on my Powerbook. When I plug it into the PB, I get the yellow, then the green once it connects. However, when I plug it into the iMac, I get nothing. I thought maybe I needed to configure Built-In Ethernet, but it won't let me select configure or connect. The assistant won't recognize it either. I posted in the Tiger forum mistakenly, but thought this forum would be more appropriate. This is what I posted (for more detail):
I just unboxed my new iMac and can't get on the internet (I'm on my powerbook). The problem is this; in Network, it says "The cable for Built-In Ethernet is not plugged in." Only, it is. Can't be the cable b/c that's the cable I'm connected with right now. So, I go through "assist me" and when I click on "Assistant" it takes me to the Intro page where I'm supposed to give a Location Name. I do this, calling it "home." The ver next screen, after clicking "continue" takes me to "How do you connect to the internet?" The problem here is that, of the 5 options, only one is selectable. Airport is the only one that can be selected?? "I use a telephone modem to dial my ISP" as well as "DSL Modem/Cable/Lan" are all greyed out..they cannot be selected. I use an ethernet cable. Why is this not able to be selected? It's very frustrating. I've turned off Airport and Bluetooth, yet I still cannot check any of these. I need to check "I use a cable modem to dial my ISP" but I can't b/c it won't allow me. Can anyone help me here? I can't use my brand new iMac and it's kind of a bummer. I thought these things were plug and play? Thank

Well I tried that and nothing. I'm completely stumped. I have no idea why this is happening. And it's weird b/c, everytime I'm jumping back on here, I'm just unhooking the ethernet cable from the iMac and plugging it into my PB. And, nearly immediately, i'm up and running, connected with the PB. How can it work on the PB and not on the iMac? And why would those options be grayed out on the iMac? It's like it just refuses to let me check them and/or configure. That is very weird.

  • Macbook Pro (Lion) won't recognize Ethernet cable

    Hi
    I'm using a Macbook Pro (15 inch, Early 2011, Built-in OS X Lion 10.7.5)
Normally I connect over Wi-Fi and I have no problem. I used to connect via Ethernet (Cat6 cable) sometimes when I was at work and I had no problem back then ( I didn't have to change any settings).
Recently I had to connect via Ethernet in a facility that used old networking systems and I had to adjust all the proxies and IP settings manually. I had serious problems connecting with LAN eventhough all the settings and proxies were set correctly and other computers on windows were able to connect easily. I even tried to connect by restarting to Windowns 7 in bootcamp but it didn't help. The cable was a cat4 I think and after a while I noticed that in System Preferences>Network>Ethernet the cable in continuously getting connected and disconnected ( Green & Red). The IT-man there couldn't give me any advice beyond that my Network adaptor has problems or cat4 is responsible. After a while I found out if I set the configuration to Manually and set the speed in Ethernet>Advanced>Hardware>Speed to 10baseT/UTP I'll get rid of the disconnecting problem and the connection works without problem.
When I got back from that center to my original workplace I set all the settings to the original automatic setting and connected the Ethernet cable (Cat6) and at first the cable was detected (Green) but the IP address was wrong and I couldn't connect to internet. I disconnected/connected the cable 2 or 3 times and after that the Ethernet was not even connecting or detecting the cable and I had the message "Cable Unplugged". The IT team at the center couldn't help me either and the problem remained even in Windows 7 over Bootcamp.
I came to home and tried to connect with a 5e Ethernet cable to my Linksys router ( that I normally connect via Wi-Fi). But the same problem: Cable unplugged. While my brother was able to connect with the same cable with a Windows 7 based VAIO.
I tried to connect with the Ethernet cable to my brother's laptop and it gets connected and obtains an IP Address.
I tried to change the speed and duplex setting to 1000base, 100base, 10base and half and full but neither of these helped and still I get the message "Cable Unplugged" when trying to connect to router.
In system information I don't see a problem with Ethernet card and the information is as follows:
    Name:          ethernet
      Type:          Ethernet Controller
      Bus:          PCI
      Vendor ID:          0x14e4
      Device ID:          0x16b4
      Subsystem Vendor ID:          0x14e4
      Subsystem ID:          0x16b4
      Revision ID:          0x0010
      Link Width:          x1
      BSD name:          en0
      Kext name:          AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext
      Firmware version:          57765-v1.37, 0x7287af41
      Location:          /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleB CM5701Ethernet.kext
      mDNS offload capable:          3c:07:54:07:d0:d4
      Version:          3.2.4b8
So I'm having the problem in different settings, with different routers and in both Mac and Winsows. I have done restarts, shutsowns, PRAM SMC resets and none helped ( neither for the ethernet problem and nor for volume and sleep problems I'm experiencing) so I'm considering reinstalling my OS X Lion. But I'm afraid it is a hardware issue because power fluctuations or something.
    I appreciate any suggestion.
    PS:
1.My MBP has experienced a falling down but I had no specific problem that I can relate to the strike. Also I had no problems with Ethernet after that.
2.I have a faulty Magsafe adaptor that has a corroded cable but it keeps charging and I'm waiting for my new Magsafe adaptor.
3.Newly I have a weak maximum volume on my Mac and volume fluctuations, also some weird sleep behaviours and delays in sleep.

I went and checked logs. Now, I'm not exactly sure what it means, but this is what it shows in the console.log:
    Mac OS X Version 10.4.10 (Build 8R2218)

So, I'm curious about that last line. I'm completely stumped. I'm going to have to call apple care. I plan to speak with my IT guy who installed my SW to see if there's any pref's or something that my agency puts on the agency computers that would maybe be doing this. He said he'd be doing a "build" on my machine so that I had that same software I have at work, so I could work from home. Don't know how that could cancel out my ability to select Ethernet in my Network Port Configurations, but who knows.
I'm just bummed I have a new computer and can't get it up and running.

  • Laptop won't recognize any ipods

OK, so I have an ipod video, a click-wheel ipod and a new shuffle, and my gateway laptop won't recognize any of them. It recognized them all until earlier this week, and the USB ports still work with my flash drive and mouse. I plugged the ipods into another computer using the same chord and they work fine. I got the ipod video replaced at an apple store, and still nothing. I plug the ipod (any of them) in and in the device manager it shows up as an unknown device. I tried reinstalling the driver, but I get nothing. I've restarted the computer of course, and have restarted the ipods (except the shuffle). I've gone through the troubleshooting on the apple support page, and am at my wits end. any suggestions?

I went through the troubleshooting page and went BACK to a genius bar and got the ipod video replaced again (they said it had a bad hard drive). I still have the same problem though. I think my computer's hard drive is going bad, but I'm not sure. The ipod is reading, but I can't copy any music over to it now ("the disc can't be copied to or read from"). Also, when I connect it to my older PC, I fill it up with music, disconnect the iPod and see that it's blank! I look in the "about" section of the ipod's settings and it shows that memory is being taken by music, and when I plug it into iTunes it shows the music being there.

  • Won't recognize Ethernet port

My Macbook fell off the table and everything is fine except that it won't recognize the ethernet cable as being plugged in anymore. I have tried other e-net cables and I know the connection if fine because my friends laptop connects without a problem. Should I just go to a mac store?

In System Preferences>Network, is Ethernet an option?
I think you should head to an Apple store and have the folks there take a look.

  • Mac Pro won't recognize ethernet connection

My Mac Pro won't recognize the Ethernet cable when it's plugged in. I know the cable and connection are good because my MacBook Pro recognizes it with no problem. I've had it for around a year, but have always used the airport to connect to the internet. It has two Ethernet ports on the back and I've tried both. Is there anything I need to do to configure the NIC card?
    Thanks in advance!
    Ryan

No, but you do need to configure the Ethernet port in Network preferences. Open Network preferences and select the Ethernet port. Click on the Advanced button then on the TCP/IP tab. Set the Configure IPv4 drop down menu to DHCP. Set the Configure IPv6 drop down menu to Off. Click on the Apply button. If all is well you should see a valid IP address in the network settings for the port. If you see an IP address starting with 169., then it means your Ethernet port is not getting an IP address from your router. You should have an Ethernet cable connected from the Ethernet port on the computer to one of the LAN ports on your router.

  • MacBook Pro does not recognize Ethernet cable or connect to wireless

Today when I turned on my computer, it suddenly would not recognize any kind of Internet connection. The Ethernet cable that I use every day now shows up as 'unplugged' even though it is plugged in. I have tried using a different cable, and it still shows up as unplugged. When I try to connect to the Internet wirelessly, there is always a connection timeout and I can't connect. I use a self-assigned IP address and I've never had this problem before. I've also reset my PRAM, but it hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

try suggestion by "KYLEWONT". If you are still unable to connect to internet then issue is either with n/w settings on comp or h/w. You can drag & drop systemconfig folder in MacHD/Library to desktop which contains all settings for network. Restart comp & that should fix problem related to s/w.

  • IMac will not connect to Wifi or recognize Ethernet cable

I have an iMac running on OS X. All of a sudden I cannot connect to WiFi...and the computer will not recognize an ethernet cable plugged in. It's wierd...the Wifi will recognize networks in the area. I'll see mine, click on it and it'll ask for the password. I put in the password and it says it's incorrect (The password is defiitely correct as I have several other devices hooked up via Wifi). It wont recognize an Ethernet cable pugged in. It just says one isnt plugged in.
I did aquire a new modem/router recently (Ubee from Time Warner Cable) but no other device is having any issues...including a brand new 27" iMac...among several other devices working fine on the WiFi.
    Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

First I would try Safe boot.
    1. Shut down Mac
    2. Start mac holding 'Shift' till you see the apple logo
    3. Log in holding 'Shift'
    4. Test there
    5. Reboot
Also I would follow the steps here to create a new location:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2712
This will create some default network adapters and see if you can connect again

  • HELP! I-Mac Won't Recognize Linksys Cable Modem

I tried to connect my I-Mac to the internet last night, and no matter what I tried, the computer would not recognize my modem. I have a Linksys BEFCMU10 modem which was originally used with a PC. However, in talking with Linksys they stated that should not be a problem. I then contacted my ISP, and they stated that the modem was showing as being "on-line," therefore, the only thing left is the computer. When I go through the "Network Assistant/Diagnositcs" I am not sure what settings I should have in the TCP/IP area. It is not a PPPoE connection (can't remember the other acronym that it actually is, something like DCHC, in which case it asked for a DCHC ID # yet my ISP said they don't have one). Do I use the "Built-in ethernet connection) or the one with en2 (which has the "green" light when I look in network diagnostics). Basically, this whole problem is far, far, from plug and play and is getting really frustrating.

    "is getting really frustrating"
    Hi Zipster257,
While the good advice you have received should have solved it for you, if not, instead of trying to edit your connection configuration by using Network Diagnostics, use "Network Setup Assistant" and when you answer the question "How Do You Connect to the Internet?" do so by activating the correct radio button - either "I use a cable modem to connect to the Internet" or "I use a DSL modem to connect to the Internet." Then continue on. This will give you a fresh configuration free of all previous settings. Of course you will want to use an ethernet cable, not USB.

  • Ethernet-Connected ATV-2 Won't Recognize Ethernet-Connected PwrMac G4

    Hey all,
My Power Mac G4, which is connected to a Belkin router (Play Model F7D4302) via an ethernet cable, is not detected through Home Sharing by my Apple TV 2.
(It's probably worth noting that the G4 has stopped appearing on my wireless network altogether. It used to play flawlessly with my MacBook Air and my Apple TV , but recently it has stopped becoming available through Home Share. I can only conclude it has something to do with the Belkin router, as I did not have this problem before I bought the thing.)
I've gone through the rudimentary processes you would try early on - restarted the router, my Power Mac, my MacBook Air and the Apple TV, as well as put factory restore settings on my router.
I've noticed when I connect the Apple TV wirelessly it bonds effortlessly to my MacBook Air, but when I connect the Apple TV via ethernet, it no longer recognizes the Air (which is still on wireless) or the G4 (which is hardwired).
What's going on here? Any tips or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated, as I'm currently trying to curb my addiction to Psych by watching it on my hi-def TV via Apple TV!

The devices must be connected to the same network.
Apparently the Wi-Fi and Ethernet are not the same network.

  • Airport Express won't see ethernet cable and internet

I have just connected to new ISP. Airport was working perfectly before. I try to connect new modem to airport with ethernet cable and the Airport utility says nothing is connected to the ethernet WAN port and keeps telling me to plug it in but it is...I have hard reset, and rebooted everything... I am at a loss. Do I need to change IP addresses or DNS server addresses? I connect the ethernet direct to my macbook and the internet works perfectly, but I plug the ethernet into the airport and it doesn't see it. Can someone please help me, the ISP's advice is buy a router from them... but I have used airport for many years on different ISP's and they have worked. Does anyone have a suggestion besides rebooting and the paperclip?

Sorry, I am not familar with this product, but maybe some other users who have used the same product can help.
IF you have not yet performed a full Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Express, that might be a good idea, as a Hard Reset will not return the AirPort Express back to factory fresh settings.
    To do this....
Power off the AirPort Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it for an additional 9-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the Express to restart
It is unusual for the WAN port to fail, but if you continue to see the message about no connection at the WAN port, that is likely what has happened.
If you have an Apple Store in your area, you might want to take the Express to them to let them have a look.
