Laptop won't set up HP B210 Printer

I have an HP Photosmart plus B210 printer that is on my network.  I can ping the IP address from my laptop.  I have set up the printer via the USB connection.  Using the software I installed from the CD, I am trying to convert the printer to a wireless connection.  However, when I try, it fails.  I have also used the HP Home Network Diagnostic Utility to try and fix the problem.  Everything is able to see the printer on the network.  When I try to Check Connection in the Diagnostic Utility, I get a Software Missing message.  I have downloaded drivers from the HP site as well as everything from the installation disc.  I can hit the printer via a browser and see all the settings.  What else can I try to get this thing working?  No problems with the firewall that I can see.  Here are my specifics:
Laptop:  HP running Windows XP
Router:  Linksys WRT54G with Firewall turned off
Firewall:  Windows Firewall with an exception set for the printer.  I have also tried turning the Firewall off completely.
Thanks,
Tim

I had a similar problem, but with a Mac, I did as a previous person said - Install Update from the printer itself - that solved my problem there.  I now have another issue, My printer (the same as yours) doesn't go into Sleep Mode, whan it goes on, goes from the Home Screen after 10 seconds right to the Demo Screen.  Do you know how this can be fixed, do I feel comfortable leaving the printer on at all times, as it only uses 1 watt of electric when in Sleep Mode.
Please can you help.
Thanks Amcoco.

Are you trying to install the HP software and the IP address entry page still does not find the printer?
If the printer still has the same IP, it should work, but there may be things that block it.  What router are you using?  What operating system? What antivirus?

    Hey @Shellyschoon,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're having an issue setting up and installing your HP Laserjet P1102w printer wirelessly with your Mac OS X 10.6.8. I'd be more than happy to help you with getting up and running wirelessly today!
The HTML Config errors that you're getting seem to be an issue with your internet browser. Can I have you start by changing your default browser on  your Mac and giving the wireless configuration another attempt?
In order to change your Mac's default browser (preferably to Safari), you want to go to:
    Choosing a default web browser
    Open Safari (/Applications).
From the Safari menu, choose Preferences.
    Click the General button.
Choose your desired browser from the "Default web browser" pop-up menu.
Mac OS X: How to change your default email application or web browser
Once your default web browser is changed to Safari, try to run the HTML Config wireless setup again.
Let me know if this works for you. Best of luck!

Why can't I add a printer to my HP g62?  Says it can't open "add printer".

That sounds like a PC issue and not a printer issue..

  • Laptop won't install drive for photosmart d110! Tried several attempts. Trying to use wireless print

I'm using Windows vista, 64-bit operating system and a hp photosmart d110 all-in-one printer. I have automatic updates installed and recently installed AVG PC Tuneup. I have attempted several uninstall/installs of the printer. I can get the printer software to download from hp website, but my laptop won't recognize it. I've been using this printer with the same Toshiba Satellite A505 laptop for the past year and have had no problems until now. I've also uninstalled the AVG Tuneup, as I thought it may have disrupted something, but still no changes. I keep getting the troubleshoot triangle on my computer image under the device/printer page. When I troubleshoot it says device needs driver installed. I click apply fix, but it is always unsuccessful. I can't completely uninstall the original hp software uploaded last February. Not sure why, but I've tried all morning.
Thanks for your time and I appreciate any help regarding this matter!

No, this was not helpful at all.
I found the solution myself. I kept working on it, as my inital feeling was that HP wasn't going to be very helpful. I'm appreciative of your response, but it may be helpful to correspond back with more than a one question sentence. When presenting our problem, we are to give very descriptive details. As neither one of us, has all day to sit around and wait for emails, it would be helpful to suggest a few things that may be wrong. Thus, the process of elimination could actively be started. Thanks for your time anyway.

  • My laptop won't see the printer

My laptop won't see the HP printer. My iMac prints fine. The printer is connected to my home network. Also my ipad and iphone won't air print to the HP 8550.

Update your os, repair permissions and restart your computer afterwards.  You probably need to check HP website for drivers to go along with the update.

  • My toshiba laptop won't connect to my HP Envy 4500 printer

I have recently attempted connecting my Toshiba laptop, which runs Windows 8, wirelessly to my HP Envy 4500 printer. I'm trying to scan something onto my laptop, which I have done with the printer before. I have the remote app, and I have connected to the printer's wireless network that pops up in the wifi section of my computer. However, when attempting to get the printer to scan, using the option on the printer's screen, it said that no device was connected, and to make sure the software was installed and that scan to pc was enabled. I opened the app on my laptop, hoping to get better results using it that was, but it told me that the printer was offline, though it was clearly on. I am not entirely sure why the printer is not recognizing my laptop, even though my laptop recognizes it. I spent nearly two hours disconnecting and reconnecting, as well as turning the printer off about three times. I am about to uninstall the app and try reinstalling it, but I am doubting the results will be any better.
I see no other way to fix this problem, as there is no USB port in which to connect a USB cable, like myprevious printer, and am wondering if it is my latop, not the printer, that is faulty. It works for printing when it comes to the other devices in my household, but I have had problems even printing with my Toshiba before. I have only attempted scanning with one other device: a HP Pavillion Media Center TV PC desktop. I am starting to think that the scanner is defaulting to only reognizing other HP products, and request any and all advice in fixing this issue.
    This question was solved.

    Hi AMakkei,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you cannot scan with your HP Envy 4500 to your Windows 8 laptop, and I am happy to help you with this connection issue!
For further assistance, I will need to know following information:
If the printer is able to make copies by itself.
If the power cable plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
In the meantime, please try going through this guide. A 'Computer Not Found' or 'Connection Error' Message Displays during Scanning, and let me know what happens!

  • New laptop won't print wirelessly to a network printer

I just bought a new laptop running windows 7, and it wont print to my photosmart c5580 that is networked and wired through my computer (desktop) and shared running windows XP. I also know that my computer has to be on for this to happen, I also know that the printer is networked correctly cause I have another desktop that prints fine wirelessly through the network. The laptop recognizes the printer as well as other files that are being shared, I have also downloaded the windows 7 driver for that printer, as well as change the name of the workgroup to match the rest of the computers on the network. Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi,
There is a challenge sharing a 32 bit driver from XP to a 64 bit version of Windows 7, as a software installation defaults to 64 bit. The exact opposite happens on a 64 bit XP to 32 bit Windows 7. The solution is to use Add a device, and check the x86 box when prompted. Here are the links to HP documents which should help you resolve the issue:

The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.
    Read up the issue.
    http://stevejenkins.com/blog/2010/01/using-the-local-default-gateway-with-a-wind ows-vpn-connection/
    Cisco vpn client..
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/239113
I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan.

  • How To Set Up Your Unsupported Printer

I managed to get my unsupported printer working, and I'd thought I'd share my experience.
This guide will help you achieve:
    Installation of unsupported printers.
Setup of "print services" on network.
A litte background: I have an Okidata C3200n, it's a GDI printer, and relies heavily on the manufacturer dirvers to function correctly on any operating system. Unfortunately for me (and many others) it seems that Okidata has been dragging their feet when it came to publishing drivers in preparation for Lion. They sent out an official announcement (OKI Printer Driver Compatibility with Mac OS X Lion - Revision 1.6) which details expected release dates for various printers. Mine won't be until mid-December, or so. Major bummer there. I use this printer for my daily business in my company, and can't go without it for more than a few days, so waiting until December is clearly not an option.
Having experienced Okidata tech support in the past, and having worked with them to get my printer running on Linux before there was a Linux driver available, I decided to give them a call to see if they would have a work-around, perhaps with some opensource drivers, to tide users over until then. Their response was that I need to down-grade to Snow Leopard, or get a new printer. Some customer support that is. They drag their feet in developing drivers, then ask us to inconvenience ourselves until they get their act together -- not acceptable.
So, having been through this before in Ubuntu, I remember Foomatic CUPS print drivers. This is where the almost pain-less solution comes in. This process does involve some command-line work, but I'll try to spell everything out as clearly as possible here.
Log on to your LION server (or desktop, but in my situation I am setting up a network printer) using your admin account (I use Local Admin, but your setup may vary).
Download Foomatic-RIP and Ghostscript for Mac and install them: http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/foomat ic
    Locate your printer: http://www.openprinting.org/printers
If you printer page lists a driver for download, go ahead and install it. You should be good to go and the driver should be available to use on LION. If your printer lists a Filter (in my case foo2hiperc), continue reading.
Download WGET to your Downloads folder from here: http://www.techtach.org/wget-prebuilt-binary-for-mac-osx-lion.
Download and install Mac Ports from here: Mac Ports for Lion.
Download and install XCode from the AppStore: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/xcode/id448457090?mt=12
Open Terminal and enter the following:
    sudo port install gsed
    cd ~/Downloads
    wget -O foo2zjs.tar.gz http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz   sdff
    tar zxf foo2zjs.tar.gz
    cd foo2zjs
    make
sudo make install (you may need to enter your admin password at this time, it will prompt you if you do)
    sudo make cups
Now, if everything went well (if you didn't see any error messages), we're all done with command-line. Let's get your printer up and running. Open Safari and browse to http://localhost:631. This is your CUPS printer admin area (why Apple didn't make a full-fledged server admin GUI I have no idea). You may need to authenticate, again with your local admin user.
Click on the Administration tab, then click the Add Printer button.
Choose your printer. If it is not listed, select the appropriate protocol. (I like using IPP.)
If you selected a protocol, enter the destination details here. For example you may need to enter your printer's IP address. Then click Continue.
Now you can name your printer to something readable and friendly, as well as give it a location, if you have multiple printers in different rooms or buildings. Be sure to check "Share this printer." to make it available to all your networked LION client machines. Again, press Continue when ready.
On this screen you will be selecting the driver for your printer. Click the Select Other Manufacturer button, and select the manufacturer of your printer and hit Continue. You will now see a list of updated drivers. One of these should be the foomatic or foo2hiperc driver we just installed. Highlight the corresponding driver for your printer, and click the Add Printer button.
Lo and behold, you now have a networked printer set up on your server. I know what you're thinking now ... you're dreading having to do this on all of the client machines as well, right? Luckily, this is where I think the hidden genius of Apple lies. They know why they dropped support for custom drivers. By using CUPS server on the LION clients as well, they can speak to the server directly in CUPS native language, leaving the server to interpret how it needs to be sent to the printer. GENIUS!
You should now be able to scurry on over to your LION client machine and see the shared printer available to install. It will automatically install itself and the driver it needs without hastle.
I would like to give credit to my brother Sebastian Bronner, who helped me find the right resources. I put these steps together based on the instructions at http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/foomat ic and http://foo2hiperc.rkkda.com/, made available by the OpenSource community.
Please let me know if you have any issues or questions, and if this solution helped you.
    Best of luck,
    ~Mike

Thanks for this - I also have an OKI (a C5500) and this is a Godsend as I would struggle to replace it.
    A couple of comments:
Points 6 and 7 should be switched - MacPorts wouldn't install until XCode was installed. You my also want to expand the XCode instructions to say that the App Store link downloads the installer and that you need to go into Launchpad and run it to fully install XCode.
The gsed installation also popped up and asked me to install Java (through Software Update). I did this and the installation of gsed continued and completed succesfully.
If wget is in the Downloads folder, the command you have to use it in point 8 should be prefaced with ./ as it's the local folder it will run from.
You have an extraneous line right below the wget command (sdff).
Otherwise, this is a really excellent procedure.
    Many thanks,
    Des

This is a great tutorial. Step by step to get your PC up and running and a lot more.Seriosly, if you can't follow this tutorial, you shouldn't have a computer. There will times when this won't work and you will have hardware problems. There are some great people here on the forum that can help you find those problems also. I have tried all these recovery options; they work, and I love my Toshiba laptop. That's why I donate my time to help and that's why others here donate their time. Hi!! You should try the recovery feature in W7. Some times it can be accessed through safe mode. On my model it's easier to use the system repair disc. You can find out how to create that here.

These are basic things you need to know if your going to own a Toshiba laptop.
PS Some day I'm going to convince staff to make a sticky of these things; which would cut their work in half, but then I wouldn't have any thing to do.
Here's what the recovery looks like. You have 5 options to help you. The Dos option can really help if you are familiar with Dos. In Dos you can do a chkdsk---sfc /scannow--- and a whole lot more. Start with the Repair option first and work your way down.

  • How do I set up a Canon printer that is asking for a WPS button?

I am trying to set up a Canon printer and cannot figure out how to do it with Airport Extreme as they are asking for a WPS button to be pushed....Please Help!

What operating system is being used on the computer that is configuring the printer and AirPort Extreme?
Apple has not supported the WPS type of setup for some time, so it may likely be necessary to use the manual setup option to configure the printer. Check the printer documentation for that procedure.
In this type of setup, the printer connects just like a laptop. You search for the wireless network, select it and enter the password to connect.

  • Screen saver won't go on, laptop won't sleep!

I've got a 17" laptop running 10.3.9. Everything used to be fine. Recently (after the latest Apple update? I'm not sure) I found that the laptop won't go to sleep. It's plugged in on my desk, and I've got the Energy Saver preference panel (set to "power adapter") set to put the screen to sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity, and the computer to sleep after 1 hour of inactivity. I've got the "Desktop & Screen Saver" panel to start screen saver after 5 minutes. And, when I leave it alone overnight, I come back in the morning and the machine is on, screen saver never kicked in. 1) Is this a problem - is there burn-in or anything like that LCDs? and 2) what's going on? I tried rebooting etc. Could I have some process running which prevents sleep? How do I debug this? I need it to start screen saver (and require login!) when I walk away.
