Laptops in docking station with lid closed go to sleep during in-place migration from XP to Windows 7

We have an issue where existing XP laptops are targeted with SCCM 2012 OSD TS for upgrade to Windows 7.  The laptops are in a docking station, with the lid closed.  The laptops are going to sleep when the OSD is booted in WinPE, just before the
Setup Windows and Configmgr step.  I have copied powercfg.exe from a Windows 8.1 machine (both AMD64 and x86 versions) to the MDT Tool package...." and then a step to run:
%DeployRoot%\Scripts\%PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE%\PowerCfg.exe -setacvalueindex 381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e 4f971e89-eebd-4455-a8de-9e59040e7347 5ca83367-6e45-459f-a27b-476b1d01c936 0
However, the laptops are still sleeping during the Setup Windows and Configmgr step.   Any insight to correcting this will be extremely helpful.

Hi
We came across this issue, seems odd that SCCM doesn't suspend the power management in the OS during the TS - (But then again it also seems odd that Windows 7 will go to sleep if you close the lid of a laptop half way through a shutdown, so that when you
lift the lid it wakes only to complete the shutdown, did MS not spot that, or choose to ignore it!?).
These commands should be run soon after the Setup Windows and ConfigMgr step and will disable the device and screen from sleep/hibernating:
Prevent sleep during OSD (Battery power)
cmd.exe /c powercfg -x -standby-timeout-dc 0
Prevent sleep during OSD (AC power)
cmd.exe /c powercfg -x -standby-timeout-ac 0
Prevent monitor off during OSD (Battery power)
cmd.exe /c powercfg -x -monitor-timeout-dc 0
Prevent monitor off during OSD (AC power)
cmd.exe /c powercfg -x -monitor-timeout-ac 0
Prevent hibernate during OSD (Battery power)
cmd.exe /c powercfg -x -hibernate-timeout-dc 0
Prevent hibernate during OSD (AC power)
cmd.exe /c powercfg -x -hibernate-timeout-ac 0
At the end of the TS, you can revert these changes by running the following command to reset the power scheme:
powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
Hope this helps
Thank you.  However, we did put similar steps in our Task Sequence right after the "Setup Windows and..." step, but the issue we are having is that the "Sleep" occurs during the "Setup Windows and...." so it never reaches
anything after that step until the lid is opened.

  • MBP keeps waking up (for a few seconds) with lid closed and in sleep.

My macbook pro, with the lid closed and hence in sleep, will periodically turn on. As in, ill be laying in bed trying to sleep, ill hear the sound of the fans and hd etc turn on, and then ill see the lcd light up.. itll do this for 4 secs, then go back to sleep. Every 20 mins or so it will do this.
What the hells wrong with it ?

Do you have any USB devices attached? Any Bluetooth devices tethered and nearby? Both of those can wake the MBP... Bluetooth can be set not to wake (System Preferences > Bluetooth), but for USB the only way is to unplug them before you close the lid. If you have Ethernet connected, uncheck the box to wake for ethernet administrator access in System Preferences > Energy Saver > Options tab (in Power adapter settings) .
    Hope this helps...

  • Can iTunes play with lid closed?

I am a newbie, so please excuse me if this sounds like a dumb question. I just moved from Windows world (after using it for 25 years) to MacBook Pro about 4 months ago.
I am using AiportExpress to stream music from iTunes to 3 different audio system throught my home. I would like play iTunes to play the music even when my MacBook lid is closed. I can't seem to get this work. Seems like such a basic function. Is it possible to play iTunes with lid closed? What am I missing?

    {quote:title=Chris CA wrote:}If Apple were to allow it with a setting and the user burned up the computer, then it would have to be covered under warranty, which it isn't.{quote}
Don't mean to argue.. but I still believe that it should be a user enabled/disabled function. I've used it on all my PCs for several years (when playing CD on Windows Media Player) and I am yet to BURN a single device
If I have to keep the MacBook open to keep running iTunes, wouldn't I run the same risk of BURNING (like you said)?
OK.. this is what I need to do...
I have all my music in iTunes. I have setup 3 AirportExpress (AirTunes) hooked up to receivers on 3 levels on my home. I'd like to play the music from iTunes (wirelessly streaming throughout the house via AirTunes) without having to keep the MacBook open. How do I do it?
I don't want to see any third party apps (e.g. Insomnia) to prevent my computer from going to sleep. I just want to accomplish what I described above. Can this be done or not?
Another question is if the iTunes is running on one of my Windows-based laptops, and I close the lid on that, iTunes (on PC) should continue to run. Right?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Odd behavior: empty optical drive makes eject sound with lid closed

Anyone heard of this? I've got a black MacBook (2.0Ghz) w/ Leopard. Laptop is plugged into outlet with lid closed & no disk in the optical drive. Every 2 minutes or so I can hear the eject sound like when you push the eject button.
    Any clues or suggestions?

I have had this problem for a couple of months. I took it into to be looked at by someone at the Apple store and they couldn't replicate the problem. It happens continuously now and drives me crazy. I took a video of it and posted it on youtube. Take a look and tell me if this is what you are experiencing, or if you have any ideas on what is happening or how to stop it. I plan on taking it to the Apple store this weekend if it is still doing this (which I am sure it is)

  • Thunderbolt Docking Station with 2 Ports...

I'm new to the forums. Please forgive my noob status. I have a Belkin Thunderbolt docking station with 2 Thunderbolt ports (as well as a number of other useful connecting ports). My MacBook Pro has 2 of them also. If I connect my MacBook with TWO cables, one in each port, will this double (or at least increase) the transfer speed to and from my laptop, over and above the use of 1 TB Cable?
    Thanks!
    docrocker1

That dock is designed for one TB input from your Mac.  The other ports on the dock are for additional TB devices to be connected.  They are not made for parallel inputs.

  • How to keep the MB powered on with Lid closed

How to keep the MB powered on with Lid closed and no monitor connected?

You can't. And you shouldn't due to heating issues.
There are however 'hacks' that allow you to bypass
    this.

This may be true of overheating, but ONLY in the iBooks and very old laptops, if you think about it what is the difference between native clamshell mode (Using the monitor/keyboard etc) and the hacked clamshell mode? does plugging a screen in to the laptop some how create more ventilation :S
This rumor is really really wrong, and as stated only affected the old machines which were not capable of native clamshell mode, but of course we keep the warnings there because we dont want to be sued if some idiot places it in there laptop bag while rendering a movie.
PS. If anyone can give me evidence to prove otherwise i will add it to the investigation that im slowly compiling to "bust" this annoying myth

  • Usb expansion dock station with arch

    Hi guys,
I'm the owner of a dell xps m1330 and i was wondering to buy the kingston exapsion dock station with the video out. It is connected to the laptop using a usb cable.
I know it works with winzozz obviously, but i don't know anything about its support with linux.
Is there any problem to transmit video out through usb to the dock and then to the external video lcd?
    thanks in advance

What kind of video card do you have?
Just from my Dell XPS m1530, I have a nvidia card and within "System >> Preferences >> NVIDIA Server Settings", I am able to plug in a VGA cable on the side and have it recognize it almost instantly. I know tried it on a projector but still, it that worked, I would say you should be ok with the monitor part.

  • Undocking a T42P from a 2877 docking station with an ultrabay 2000 HDD???

I have just added a disk drive in the ultrabay 2000 slot of my 2877 docking station that I use to hold my backups.  I can no longer use the "Undock" function because the device is in use by an active program - I assume the operating system or Windows Explorer.  My PC is a ThinkPad T42p running XP at the SP2 level.  Is there any way short of shutting down the PC to flush all of the cache to the 2nd HDD and be able to safely undock the laptop from the docking station?
    Thanks,
    scott

Thanks for the reply, Huffer. I was plugging it into one of the 3.0 ports. I just tried the 2.0 port. Disk Management successfully loaded, and presented me with an "Initialize Disk" window (I hit "Cancel"). It showed that HDD as "Not initialized" and having no partitions (all space unallocated). No new drives appeared in Computer.
The drive behaved fine when used with my old laptop (the issue with that laptop is a power supply issue, not a drive issue). I don't have another working computer to try it in, nor do I have another drive to try in the docking station.
I assume that I should not initialize it, as that may make my data more difficult to recover, correct? Is problem likely my laptop, the docking station, the drive, or an incompatibility issue? What utility might I be able to use to see this partition and copy my data over?

  • Problem using docking station with ipod 5th generation

just bought an ipod touch, 5th generation, with the Lightening connector. Bought an Acoustic solutions docking station with the same small lightening connector but when I dock I can only charge the ipod and not play music through the docking station. Does anyone have same problems playing music with a 5th generation ipod that has the new small lightening connector?...I bumped into someone at Argos who said they are having the same problem not being able to play music from the new iphone 5 that has the lightening connector and even if you use a adaptor to make it 30 pin connector compatable it still doesnt work, any help will be appreciated, thanks

Does Acoustic Solutions say it will work with your model iPod and iOS 7.0.4?
Have you went to their support site?
    Sometimes this works
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
Sometimes an iOS updates breaks compatibility and yo will have to wait for iOS update or an update to the dock's firmware.

  • Audio & video via HDMI to an external monitor with lid closed.

I would like to run a Macbook Pro Retina (2014) with the lid closed and all video and audio via HDMI routed to an external monitor (Samsung Syncmaster from 2010). Is this possible? When I try this, no sound is transferred to the external monitor and I cannot operate the Macbook Pro with the lid closed. As soon as I close the lid, it cuts the signal to the external screen.
I’ve tried looking for previous posts but they’re about MCP’s connecting via Thunderbolt or DVI. Any ideas?

Seems like there may be two separate questions here.   Audio working in either configuration   and video from HDMI when lid closed.  First, you are doing this with the Mac running off of AC, not battery, right?
    Audio:
Is the HCMI cable you are using able to carry the audio?  Some cables don't.
The only way I've ever used external displays with lid closed is with the thunder port (or DVI) adapter, not with the HDMI.  I see the specs from Apple:
    HDMI video output
Support for 1080p resolution at up to 60Hz
Support for 3840-by-2160 resolution at 30Hz
Support for 4096-by-2160 resolution at 24Hz
So have you tried varying the screen res to determine the results?  I can find no specs regarding what ports remain operational in clamshell.   Like you, I would have assumed all of them.
I suspect only the thunderbolt port would support your desired config -- try a thunderbolt/hdmi adapter.
Finally, clamshell mode doesn't allow the MBP to cool efficiently.  Heat kills electronics, so if it's too warm or the fans really kick in, you might want to reconsider this setup.

  • Is there anyway to have an 11 inch mac air connected to an external monitor with lid closed and still be able to see content. I have a wireless ketboard and mouse and have tried everything. Only works when plugged in.

You are referring to a feature called Clamshell Mode, please read Clamshell Mode setup for instructions.
BTW when posting when you use generalities such as "have tried everything" this tells us nothing. When posting please be specific and try to paint a complete picture. It just makes things easier for those trying to help you.

  • Macbook sleep wake up with lid closed

Hi everybody. Since 10.9 I had a strange issue with sleep on my MBP 15. If I put it in sleep with the button and I close the lid, it will wake up closed waiting for the password.
Also, if it is in sleep while charging, or charged, and I plug off the magsafe, it will wake up again....even with lid closed.
Already resetted PRAM, SMC, all the basics, any idea?

  • MBP Randomly Wakes Up With Lid Closed

    Hi,
My Macbook Pro (OS 10.4.11) always randomly wakes up by itself after I closed the display lid. Is there anything I can do to remedy this? Thanks.

I get this too and it is really really annoying. Then, when I open the lid to try to put it to sleep again, it goes to sleep, so now it's doing the opposite: asleep with lid open and awake with lid closed. The real problem is that I can't wake it up! The other annoying thing is that with the lid closed some of my bluetooth devices i.e. wireless keyboard and mouse wake it up. Solutions?

  • Play CD music with lid closed

Is it possible to play CD with lid closed without a external display plugged in? Assuming the MBP is connected to AC outlet, and Bluetooth mouse is present.

No. You need an external display, mouse, and keyboard connected.
And why would you wanna do that? Are you running a line out? If not and you are playing the sound out through the MBP speakers, the lid would make minimize the output of the speakers and it would sound like garbage.

  • Any way I can play music on 15" rMBP with lid closed?

    Hi everyone,
I'm enquiring if I can play music on my 15" retina Macbook Pro while it is asleep. I have an iPhone 5 I can listen to music on, but I've recently found that the sound is so much better if I plug my headphones into my Mac as it gives a fuller richer sound.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You have to use an app which disables sleep when you close the lid. For this, use InsomniaX > http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/22211/insomniax After disabling sleep with lid closed, you should be able to listen to music. Be careful doing this because your computer may get overheated if you keep the Mac with lid closed and turned on for a very long time
