Laptops won't recognize Lion Installer EFI

I have two laptops:
Macbook Air (Mid 2012) 11" 1.7GHz Core i5
Mabook Pro (Mid 2012) 15" 2.7GHz Core i7
I made a USB Lion 10.7.5 installer by following the directions here:
http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/07/how-to-create-a-bootable-backup-mountain-li on-install-disk/
However, neither of these laptops will recognize the USB stick when I hold down option on boot. Both will mount the USB stick on the desktop, after booting their old OS, but neither will see it as a bootup option.
Just to test, I tried the 10.7 USB installer that we purchased from Apple. Both will recognize that installer: when holding down option on startup, it shows up as a picture of the USB stick. However, selecting it and trying to boot from it just gives me the cirlce-with-slash "no go" symbol.
How can I reinstall 10.7.5 or 10.7.4 on these computers?

Thanks for the quick reply. I have the Belkin F5D7230-4 Router. I don't see anything like that in any of the Belkin Tech pages that I looked at. The problem is, both these Laptops were recognizing the belkin for over a year now. We had a thunderstorm the other day, and all of a sudden the router had to be reset. When I did that without the security, the HP's recognized it, but it would drop the signal. Then I would have to reboot again. I added the security, and it doesn't even recognize the router now. I also found out with my son that his Wii and PS3 also aren't recognizing the router. For the time being, I have contacted Belkin to send me a new one. i will see if thats the problem. Thanks again.

  • Laptop won't recognize any ipods

OK, so I have an ipod video, a click-wheel ipod and a new shuffle, and my gateway laptop won't recognize any of them. It recognized them all until earlier this week, and the USB ports still work with my flash drive and mouse. I plugged the ipods into another computer using the same chord and they work fine. I got the ipod video replaced at an apple store, and still nothing. I plug the ipod (any of them) in and in the device manager it shows up as an unknown device. I tried reinstalling the driver, but I get nothing. I've restarted the computer of course, and have restarted the ipods (except the shuffle). I've gone through the troubleshooting on the apple support page, and am at my wits end. any suggestions?

I went through the troubleshooting page and went BACK to a genius bar and got the ipod video replaced again (they said it had a bad hard drive). I still have the same problem though. I think my computer's hard drive is going bad, but I'm not sure. The ipod is reading, but I can't copy any music over to it now ("the disc can't be copied to or read from"). Also, when I connect it to my older PC, I fill it up with music, disconnect the iPod and see that it's blank! I look in the "about" section of the ipod's settings and it shows that memory is being taken by music, and when I plug it into iTunes it shows the music being there.

  • Laptop Won't Recognize Ethernet Cable

    Hi,
I'm having an issue with my HP laptop Product # A9Q25AV  - One day I got on to play an online game and  my computer would not recognize my ethernet cable. I went to device manager to see if there was an issue and I only found my wireless driver. I went to the HP website to download all the Network drivers and it never shows up on device manager after installation and still does not recognizee my ethernet cable. Please Help!

Usually there is a light that comes on when I plug my ethernet cable into my laptop but it won't trigger the light either. I have plugged the router up to a different computer and my Xbox and it works that way. But once I plug it into my laptop, there is nothing. The WiFi will pick up just fine, I would just rather have an ethernet connection.
Hi Good day! In relation to your issue, you have mentioned that you have already re-installed your network drivers moreover the wireless on your notebook is able to connect perfectly fine. Lastly if I got you correctly the ethernet you're using on this computer is the same ethernet you use for your xbox and its able to connect.   Considering your input, it is most likely that the adapter for your LAN/Ethernet is disabled.  How to fix the issue? 1. Disable wireless by pressing F12 key on your keyboard.2. Go to Network and Sharing Center and choose change adapter settings (located on the left part of the window)3. From there you will see your LAN/Ethernet Adapter and Wireless Adapter4. Right click on wireless adapter and choose disable on the selection5. Thereafter check Lan Adapter and make sure it's enabled Note: If your ISP is using Cable Technology (ex. Comcast, TWC etc.) You might need to do the "Sequential Powercycling" How to do Sequential Powercycling? 1. Turn off your Modem by unplugging the power cord together with your router (if there is any)2. Shut down your computer totally 3. Wait for one full minute, thereafter turn on only the Modem and wait for the Online light to be solid green4. As soon as the online light on your Modem is light up, turn on your router (if there's any)5. After 1 minute turn on your computer and from there it should be able to connect.  I hope this fixes the problem your having, otherwise reply with the result of the troubleshooting I provided so I can do you a follow up!  Have a great day!  Regards,Marc

  • IMac won't recognize 2nd installation disc for Creative Suite 5.5 Prod Premium

Can someone help me? I bought Adobe Creative Suites 5.5 ProductionPremuim and I'm having trouble. I entered the serial number and product code and all that. It starts to install, and the first Application 1 disc installs just fine, but when it spits it out and asks for the Application 2 disc, it doesn't recognize it and keeps asking me to put in the Application 2 disc.
I know it is not a hardware iMac issue because the drive was just replaced last month, and other CDs work just fine. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Do I need a new Application 2 disc, or am I doing something wrong? Or should I just bypass it altogether and try to download it using the same serial number?
    Thanks.
    Ben

copy both disc's contents to a desktop folder and install from there.

  • Laptop won't recognize CD/DVD or hard drive, but they have power.

When I received the laptop it worked just fine. I changed the boot order to CD first and upon saving and restarting the machine, it somehow reset the BIOS and it no longer recognizes the drives. They have power, because I can open the CD drawer, but in the BIOS it doesn't list them. I thought about updating the BIOS, but you need a CD drive to do that.

    Any help would be appreciated.

It has 1 GB of RAM, so I tried booting up with only one module. Neither one of them solved the problem, although oddly enough in Verbose mode this time instead of stopping on the error the I mentioned before, it continued a bit further and gave a kernel panic. This was the same for each module.
I'm coming to the conclusion that at this point it's probably either the logic board or the CPU, and will probably be expensive to fix -- the warranty ran out in August. I suppose that it's possible both RAM modules are bad, but it seems very unlikely that both of them would be.
I suppose I'll just have to bring it in for servicing and have it checked out.
    Thank you for the suggestions.

  • Photoshop CS3 Extended won't recognize QuickTime installation

    Hi,
using Photoshop CS3 Extended, I tried opening an animated GIF today without success. After some forum searching I found I had to import it as video into layers.
When I tried that I got this message:
"Could not complete the video frames to layers command because QuickTime version 7.1 or later is required."
I have QuickTime installed, the newest version (checked for updates and found none), and it works normally. This computer is just about 2 months old, so it's not an out-of-date installation of QuickTime, either.
I am running Windows XP Pro.
How does Photoshop determine whether QuickTime is installed or not?
    Any other ideas?
I'd rather avoid re-installing programs (especially QuickTime) if there's an easier fix for this.
    Thanks!

    Richard.
There was a problem with QT 7.4 and the Digital rights Management segment that conflicted with After Effects and Premier. There was an almost immediate update from Apple to 7.4.1 (6?) which fixed this problem, there may infact have been another update since then although from memory this was just an itunes update.
I'd update to the latest version which will more than likely fix the problems. If as you said you have the latest version then try uninstalling Quicktime and reinstalling it rather than using the apple updater.

  • Laptop won't recognize ipod nano/ipod nano won't format or work! help plz?!

so i was really excited to get my ipod nano for xmas.
i already have had itunes for a long time now and am familiar with that. and am also quite familiar with how my laptop works and such.
so i put the cd from the ipod nano package in the cd drive and it statred to do its stuff. it then asked me to plug in my nano... thats when the trouble started.
first, it takes for ever to speak to the nano. then it syays it has to format it, and takes 10 minutes to do this until it decides it can't do it. so it tells me to disconnect and re-connect the nano. all the while the nano has a message on the screen saying do not disconnect.
i have tried to 5r's concept about 4 times. i also have set one of the USB hub thingys in the device manager so that the power cannot be turned of by the laptop or something like that. what else can i do??

    Hello boredm,
It would have been more helpful if you started your own topic so that it would be exposed to more people who would be able to help.
Ummm... since you're here, have you downloaded the latest updater?
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    Then follow this updating instruction:
    Updating iPod software
Updating can sometimes take several minutes or more, depending the computer you have, so just be patient.

  • My iPhone had a problem while updating and it is now stuck on the connect to itunes screen. It will not connect to itunes and my laptop won't recognize that there's a phone connected. Help?

While I was updating my phone, there was an error and it's stuck on the screen where it has the cable connecting to itunes. I tried to connect, but it's stuck. I've tried different cables and ports, but nothing works. Is there anything I can do without erasing my phone? I can't remember the last time I backed up my phone and I turned off iCloud because of the space it was taking up. I keep shutting it down and turning it back on, but the same screen appears. If you think you have a solution, please share!

Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.
Unfortunately, the data on your phone is already gone if you're seeing the connect to iTunes logo.

  • Windows on laptop won't recognize ipod nano

i'm having trouble connecting my ipod nano. it is fully charged from the usb connection. newest versions of itunes and ipod updater are installed. usb root hubs under device manager are turned on at all times under power management. disk management does not show nano connected when in disk mode. trying to install ipod under device manager has error that the necessary software cannot be found for the hardware. any suggestions...thanks for your time.
      Windows XP Pro

messed with that a little, but it seems like the problem isn't with my "usb controllers", which seem to be working correctly. under device manager the only error, or exclamation mark, is found under "other devices", which when expanded has "ipod." under properties, the error message from above is found:
"This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver."
When attempting to reinstall the driver, the necessary software is not found.
..."usbstor" can be found under drivers and i386 however not under inf. i copied it to inf successfully, but it still doesn't appear. when attempting to copy it again it asked if i would like to replace the previous file...i dunno just kinda wierd why it can't be seen, but it obviously is there. also i don't know if i trust that site to download usbstor.inf or if its needed anyway???
    thanks for continuing to help

  • Laptop won't install drive for photosmart d110! Tried several attempts. Trying to use wireless print

I'm using Windows vista, 64-bit operating system and a hp photosmart d110 all-in-one printer. I have automatic updates installed and recently installed AVG PC Tuneup. I have attempted several uninstall/installs of the printer. I can get the printer software to download from hp website, but my laptop won't recognize it. I've been using this printer with the same Toshiba Satellite A505 laptop for the past year and have had no problems until now. I've also uninstalled the AVG Tuneup, as I thought it may have disrupted something, but still no changes. I keep getting the troubleshoot triangle on my computer image under the device/printer page. When I troubleshoot it says device needs driver installed. I click apply fix, but it is always unsuccessful. I can't completely uninstall the original hp software uploaded last February. Not sure why, but I've tried all morning.
Thanks for your time and I appreciate any help regarding this matter!

No, this was not helpful at all.
I found the solution myself. I kept working on it, as my inital feeling was that HP wasn't going to be very helpful. I'm appreciative of your response, but it may be helpful to correspond back with more than a one question sentence. When presenting our problem, we are to give very descriptive details. As neither one of us, has all day to sit around and wait for emails, it would be helpful to suggest a few things that may be wrong. Thus, the process of elimination could actively be started. Thanks for your time anyway.

  • Dell Latitude E6400 won't recognize 1600-900 dpi settings.

Just bought a new HP W2071d 20" monitor and installed the driver on my Dell E6400 laptop.  Then, when restarting the monitor shows 1280 X 768 as the recommended resolution and will not let you set it higher.   Do I have a defective monitor?  Why isn't the driver allowing the higher native monitor resolution?
I have tried just about everything including downloading and installing the newest Windows 7 drivers from HP.

The Laptop won't recognize the native resolution of the monitor no matter if I remove the HP furnished drivers or not.  I'm going to attach the monitor to my desktop and see what happens.  If the desktop recognizes the monitor and will allow 1600X900 resolution (It's a 1 year old Gateway desktop) then I will suspect some Dell issues.  If it won't recognize the 1600X900 resolution I will think the monitor is faulty.  The Dell detects the monitor but, again, won't allow the resolution it should.
