Larch - latest news

It's been a while now, so it's time for a brief report.
I've been working on other things, so there hasn't been much change to larch.
I have just updated the squashfs package so that it should be possible to use the stock kernel again (the beyond kernel has the module integrated).
Unfortunately the change to pata seems to remove the ability to eject the CD when shutting down. Previously cdrecord could eject it even though it was still mounted. Unmounting it is not possible within the live CD system, so that is a bit of an annoyance. (It should be no problem if you can do a copy-to-ram.)
If anyone knows of any way of forcing an eject in this situation please let me know. Otherwise, I'll try to figure out some other way around this problem, but that will probably take a while.

I discovered that cdrecord/wodim can still do a forced eject if you feed it the x,y,z SCSI name for the device.
cdrecord dev=/dev/cdrom -eject # doesn't work with mounted CD
cdrecord dev=0,1,0 -eject # does work with mounted CD

hwd is also not perfect, it doesn't work on at least one of my machines. But if you like, you could put it in the overlay, in /etc/rc.local for example.
If anyone comes across a good autoconfiguration program for xorg, which is easily portable(!), please let me know.

If you mean the proprietary one(s), just put it/them in 'addedpacks' in the profile - but don't ask me how to configure them automatically ... hwd won't do it, anyway.

I sort of assumed people would customize their builds to start up with the right keyboard layout, but if you want to cope with more than one layout, this might be useful. Do you mean in the console? Then you can use 'km' (putting /larch/km in /etc/rc.local might work, but I haven't tested it). In xorg there are various possibilities. KDE and GNOME have their own keyboard setters - the 'default' profile uses the KDE one. Otherwise you could include my package xkmap (which inexplicably seems not to be in my 'larch' repo - I'll fix that) in 'addedpacks', which uses pygtk to provide a simple keyboard-setter GUI. Of course, you could also make a boot menu to adjust xorg.conf, but I wasn't planning to do that.

You can look at other stores, but you will not be able to purchase tracks from any iTunes Store other than the Canadian store. The content owners will not allow cross-border sales.

Updating podcasts to just the latest "new" one

I used to have my podcasts set to manual and when I wanted new ones, I only wanted the latest new one. Not all of them as I dont have the time for them all.
I used to be able to downlaod them that way until iTunes 11. I have it set still to manually download the lasted new one only, but it downloads them all. I get a hundred or so,
How do I get it back to how it once was?

I also emailed Apple for help with this and they recommended this forum. I read that there are a lot of problems with podcasts with iTunes ver 11.
I have mine set to manual with downloading the most recent one. But when I click update it downloads all that are available. Not just the newest like I have it set at.
There is also a download arrow - I guess it is - but my number of podcasts change to add all of those to my total.With a complete Blue dot beside them. But when it downloads it seems like it only downloads the one but the total is changed showing I have them all.
Does ANYONE know how this works now.
You would think there are some apple people that can help with this but the fellow that emailed me from Apple Support had no idea at all about podcasts and their settings and how it works.
What a shame - podcasts are a huge part of the iphone experience.

Were still collecting the latest news - Newsfeed problem

Hello
I have a problem with newsfeed of personal sites. The Everybody view of newsfeed does't work. There is
"Were still collecting the latest news. You may see more if you try again a little later" message always displayed in this view. Other one (Follows, Newsfeed, Mentions) work fine.
There are no any errors in ULS and System Log.
I'll be very grateful to you for any ideas about cause of problem.

According to your description, my understanding is that you got an error when you accessed the newsfeed of personal sites.
There are multiple reasons for this issue. Firstly , please check whether the Distributed cache is started. You can do as the followings:
1.Open Start->Administrative Tools->Services.
2.Scroll to AppFabric Caching Service, check whether it is started. If not, please start it.
3.Open Central Administration, click Application Management
4.Click Manage Services on server under Service Applications
5.On the Services on Server page, locate the Distributed Cache service.
6.If the Distributed Cache service is stopped and you need to start the service, under Action, click Start.

Any latest news about the Microphone Boost problem?

Hi,
I'm using the SB X-FI Titanium and I have the well-known problem that my mic is too low, but can't fix it cause the creative console doesn't have MicBoost. ? It's definitely not a mic-problem cause I tried two different mics.
Are there any latest news about that, may be official/not official drivers? Or ist there another way to activate MicBoost for my X-FI?

Some serious sources say that a new set of nForce drivers are in its way to release.
Some modules has been rewritten, so thats why their late release.
Just some last minute bugfixing, and they will hit our nForce systems!!!

[SOLVED] Color Bash Prompt - Arch Latest News w/o description

Hi everybody, i'm trying to get the Arch Latest News in the bash profile when terminal starts. I followed the wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … s_at_logon and I can show the latest news without problems. What I want to do is to show only the titles and links, without description, that uses much space in the terminal. I tried to figure out what lines I should delete in the /etc/bash.bashrc file but.. you know the sintax is pretty obscure for the most of us (at least for me). I see that there is a description line.. but, really I can't manage this. How can I do this? Thanks in advance.

Program which prints arch-latest news in console

is there a cli program aviable which can print out the latest news fom arch homepage? would be nice to run such a program b4 updates to realize if manual intervention is required

I currently get news announcements 3 or 4 times. Via the announce mails, announce feed and Planet Arch feed (maybe one more that escapes memory).
I quite like the idea of pacmatic, I wonder if I could get up to double figures.

How to divide latest news/announcements into a carousel

Hi, I would like to use a text carousel/slider for my client's news summary listings on the home page. I am using 'Owl Slider'. It needs to automatically take the latest 9 listings and separate them onto 3 slides. The Owl Slider script uses 3 groups of lists, one for each slide.
FIRST SLIDE (EASY - the latest 3 news items)

but the following 2 slides is where I get stuck.... is it possible to then populate the other 2 slides with the latest 4th-6th news item (on the second slide) and the latest 7th-9th news items summaries on the third slide ? ie:

    {module_announcement,????} to call up the 4th-6th latest article summary
</ul>
THIRD SLIDE
<ul class="news">

I am hoping there is a simple way to call up the module with the parameters somehow? ... or am I trying to do something too tricky with the News Module?

One interesting thing we found from some of the Beta customers is that they thought this was an Excel only solution. Yes, we are focusing all the efforts for v1 on Excel, but this is planned to be a full blown MDX provider for Oracle OLAP*. Therefore, you will get the entire MDX query language and this interface will be similar to what you have with Microsoft Analysis Services or SAP Business Warehouse. Although v1 will be ODBO only, we are planning to support XMLA in future versions. The priorities for what we support and when will be customer driven. Cubes are built using AWM 11.2.0.2A.
To be more specific, the issue occurs when we attempt put a filter on the dimension (or select members of the dimension) both in the existing workspaces or when we try to create a new workspace in Voyager. Attaching the screenshot of the error message.

Devour owners...what's the latest news? Any success with customer service?

Well, all of us know these phones don't work properly. I was just wondering if anyone has had success swapping these for a functional phone...or if everyone is still being told that the problems are rare, even though most of us are on at least our second, if not third or fourth.
I was also wondering if there was maybe (fingers crossed) any kind of recall for these, since I pay $200 per month for a paperweight.
My fellow devour users....Please share your latest experiences.

The only recall I can think of is the KIN One/KIN Two phones, which got retooled as feature phones six months later in an attempt to salvage otherwise useless hardware.
I highly doubt that the Devour will be recalled, it sucks but I doubt it "malfunctions" enough to qualify for the large expenses of a recall, versus the relatively small expense of sending out warranty replacements for those vocal minority until they either replace the phone themselves (use an upgrade, buy full retail, buy third-party such as ebay) or leave VzW.
Gotta love business decisions that don't care about the customers -_-

I've been trying to implement the facebook and twitter modules into the annoucement layouts but they aren't coming up for some reason. Am i doing something wrong as im inserting the modules as well as tried inserting the code into the templates, but nothing works...

Who said you had to use them? The presence of buttons does not in any way imply you must press them and use the features those buttons provide. You have the willpower within you to ignore those buttons! Try it! And just because you don't want to use them does not mean you have the right to wipe all references to them from places that they appear.
And I don't want to see buttons with their logos.
Well, just don't look at them then! It's really not hard to ignore features of iOS you don't want to use - people do it all day, every day.
Websites, TV shows & adverts, print ads, shop windows, movie trailers and many other forms of media show the Facebook and Twitter logos everywhere you look. Do you also make demands to all of these places that they remove the logos just because you don't want to see them?
Hiding two 9mm square logos from within one specific user interface element within iOS will not prevent you from seeing their logos.
It smells like discrimination.
