Large chunk of video...help

I am a basketball coach. I need to have a DVD of game footage quickly after each game. I tape with a MiniDV camera. I just purchased a 1TB external hard drive so that I can save games for an eventual highlight video I'll make with iMovie. I need some direction (like step by step directions) for how to utilize the external hard drive with iMovie. Generally speaking, the games will involve about 1.5 hours of video. Having used iMovie, I am familiar with capturing and creating a DVD, but I do not know how to save the game to the external hard drive so I can gain access to it for later editing or if I want to burn another game DVD.
Can anyone lay this out for me in a way that even a PE teacher could understand?
Many, many thanks in advance to you.
Gary

Look at the upper right hand corner of the "Event Library", where the events are listed - not the browser where you preview clips. Look for a little hard disk icon, and be sure it's "on". It turns blue. All connected drives should appear. Select your desired target drive and from the file menu, choose "New Event". This will create a new event on the target drive into which you can then direct the capture of new footage.
The only rub could be that, if your new drive is USB, it might not be able to keep up with the capture process. Firewire would be better in this regard. If you have this problem, just capture to your internal drive and move the file afterwards. You just need an "iMovie Events" folder on the external to put it in. Assuming you need the space back on the internal, throw out the new capture once you've got a copy on the external.

I recently changed from a Mac Pro to an iMac. Despite using Migration Assistant, a large chunk of my recent emails and nearly all of my wife's emails have disappeared in transit. Strangely, emails from my distant past are still there. Time Machine is no help; the messages may be on my backup disc but they're behind an invisible  icon. Any ideas as to how I can get them back?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Need to split one large high-res video into sub-parts

I have a very large high-res video (5760 x 3240) that I would like to split into 9 separate videos, each 1920 x 1080.  These would make up the content of a 3x3 video wall and would be 'stitched' back together by the media players driving the wall.
I am new to After Effects, so sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but I was told this was possible using AE.

    Thanks for all the responses.
My next question was how I can make sure I am positioning the video in the composition to the exact pixel.  Seems a little inexact just dragging, but I will try the advanced sizing controls.
I am being told that the individual media players can sync up to the ms.  We are going to test everything this week once we receive the final video. Since the entire video will be 60gb, there is the question of storage, so we are adding 64gb flash to each player.
We are doing a similar wall in Europe and they are using a single video server along with a matrixer to get the job done.
I've done 2x2 walls pixel perfect and most hardware will choke on that, so I am hoping the multiple media players will be better in handling smaller chunks.
I will let you know how it works out.

  • Large amounts of video data 2TB+

Over the next several months the University of Michigan will be videotaping elementary school classes. We hope to tape at least 40 classrooms with two cameras in each classroom for about 90min each. Im estimating I will have 2-3 TB of video files I need to safely store and edit. Im considering buying External 1TB Firewire Hard drives for this. In the past using multiple external HDDs was not the best solution. When I have more than 1 or 2 Firewire devices hooked up I start losing connections.
Can someone help me locate information on best practices for storing and editing large amounts of video files with PPro?

I'd recommend looking at solutions offered by one of these companies. If you contact them and describe what you are trying to accomplish, they can offer suggestions...

  • I/O error (6) when writing too large chunks to Datalog format

I have an application on an NI-PXI-8108, that writes large chunks of data to a datalog file. When it reaches a certain size, I get a generic file I/O error.
The error appears at about 32MB per write action. So there might be a limit or optimization I can change to improve this?
I would prefer not to change the format, so smaller chunks is not an option.
Any ideas or help is very much appreciated.

I've got a simple test VI that proves this issue:
We're using a PXI-8108 btw, I'm not sure if this matters though.
    Any ideas?

  • Best way to upload a large 25 minute video and where to?

best way to upload a large 25 minute video and where to?

Just a couple minutes surfing - YouTube only allows 15 minute videos from general users -- to upload larger apparently you have to be a trusted long time source.   There is also a restriction on the file size.
YouTubes help section should give you all the details.
I don't watch online videos - so I just used a query in ASK.Com to get some quick tips.

  • Deleting chunk of video along with audio

    Hi,
I recorded audio separately from video. I've dropped the audio into the project and synced it with the video (wasn't easy!). Now I want to delete a chunk of video and the corresponding chunk of audio, but when I select and delete the frames, the audio track stays unchanged.
What's the solutio to this problem?
    Thanks,
    ib@fb

You need to select both the clip and the audio track (in fact all clips covered by the audio track will be highlighted), position the playhead at the start of the part you want to delete then right-click Split Clip.  Both video and audio will split at the same place.
Now move to the end of the part you want to delete and do the exactly the same (you will need to select the second part of the audio track plus the second part of the video clip).
Finally delete the middle bit of the clip (the audio track attached to it will go too).
    Geoff.

  • After upgrade to iOS 5 there is a large chunk of data ( 9Gb) on the phone labeled as "Other" in iTunes.

After upgrade to iOS 5 there is a large chunk of data (>9Gb) on the phone labeled as "Other" in iTunes. I suspect this is the music library from before the upgrade. How do I delete this data?

Same happened here on my iphone 4. I heard it's something about bad meta data in the music files but I've no idea. It seems to be fixed by deleting the music from the iphone and then syncing it back on. No need to reset so far luckily!

  • Download Video Helper For Safari

I'm looking for a similar download video helper that Firefox offers for free, for Safari. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There is the Free  iTube Grabber which can capture almost any audio and/or video stream (it says here) but only works with Intel Macs.
    http://itube-grabber.en.softonic.com/mac
There is also iTubeX which allows you to download videos (Flash, HTML5 and others), .mp3 and .swf files from almost every website as easily as possible:
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/27604/itubex
Lastly: How to download Flash videos and play them in Quicktime using Perian is explained here:
    http://perian.org/#watch
It's the video at the bottom of the page.
Last but not least (as some of the above may not work with Snow Leopard or Lion) there is the 'pwn trick':
For example, the full youtube site for your movie is:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC2XIGMI ... e=youtu.be
As soon as the movie starts, pause it and add 'pwn' in front of the youtube part of the url so it looks like this:
    http://www.pwnyoutube.com/watch?v=bC2XI ... e=youtu.be
Hit Return and then follow the instructions.

  • Every time I drop a video into my sequence the preview window crops out a large chunk of my image?

I have checked the zoom and that is not causing the problem.

Actually, the example circled in the previous post only affects the preview resolution, and would have no effect on the framing. That would be the button on the left, which is "Fit" or a percentage. As it is already set to FIT, it should be displaying the entire image.
Your problem is very likely that the Sequence setting doesn't match the source video, for instance putting an HD clip into an SD sequence, or 1080 into 720. Typically, you will want these to match. In the Project Bin, at lower right, there is a button for "New Item". If you drag and drop your video clip onto that button, it will create a New Sequence with the proper settings to match your source footage.
If for whatever reason you do wish to edit a clip in a different sequence type, you can right-click a clip on the timeline and check "Scale to Frame" and this will fix the framing. Another option is to enable Scale to Frame in Prefs, and this will always scale clips to fit (doesn't change clips imported prior to changing the setting though, must do those manually).
    Thanks

  • Extremely Slow USB 3.0 Speeds When Transferring Large Amounts of Video

    Hi there,
I am transferring large amounts of footage (250GB-1.75TB chunks) from 5x 5400rpm 2TB drives to 5x 7200rpm 2TB drives simultaneously (via 6x USB 3.0 connections and 4x SATA III, with copy/paste in explorer) and the transfer speeds are incredibly slow. Initially the speeds show up as quite fast (45-150mb/ps+) but then they slow down to around 3mb/ps.
The drives have not been manually defragmented but the vast majority of the files on each are R3D video files.
I am wondering if the amount of drives/data being used/sent is what is causing such slow speeds or if there might be another culprit? I would be incredibly appreciative to learn of any solutions to increase speed significantly. Many thanks...
    Specs:
    OS: Windows 7 Professional
    Processor: i7 4790k
    RAM: 32GB
    GPU: Nvidia 970 GTX

If the USB ports are all on the same controller, they share their resources, so the transfer rate with 6 ports would be max 1/6-th of the transfer rate with 1 USB port if we disregard the overhead. Add that overhead to the equation and the transfer rate goes down even further. Now take into account the fact that you are copying from slow 5400 RPM disks that effectively max out at around 80 MB/s with these chunks and high latency, add the OS overhead and these transfer rates do not surprise me.

  • New ITunes unable to Play videos Help please!

I recently transferred all my videos and music over from my old itunes which was on a desktop to my new laptop. The music plays fine and I can watch and listen to music on my new ipod which has been synced to this computer. I am however having an issue watching videos through itunes itself, all i get is a funky green screen and the audio. Any ideas?
    Thanks, appreciate the help!

Unfortuneatly at this point, mant people are having play back problems with any DRM video...some people seem to work, a large portion do not. The problem seems to be one of 3 things:
    - A grey screen with no sound or video
    - A grey screen with no sound or video, and apple prompt the account to be re-authorized over and over again, even after it is authorized and music is playinf
    - A green screen with sound but no video
Unfortunately I have tried all of the fixes suggested (seach for my posts, you will see what I have tried), but apple support is unable to help me and many others...and we're out in the cold. My suggestion: NON DRM all the way, it just works, quicktime and itunes play any NON DRM, unfortunelty, thats not the way its all going, so...you have to make a choice now...walk on the dark side or...wait..and hope......that apple will eventually come up with a solution. I'll put my faith in the Dark Side for now...evil just works.

  • PSE8 "Magic Extractor" omits large chunks of "include" selection ...

Having for years successfully used the extractor tool in Photoshop 5.5 (running under WinXp and Vista), I'm finding the performance of PSE's "Magic Extractor" tool (currently running in trial mode under Win7 Professional) extremely disappointing.  WIth almost every photo I've tried, the "Magic Extractor" leaves large, jagged chunks of transparency and/or overlays the image with dark blue semi-transparent circles within the "include" selection when previewed.  It is possible to "complete" the selected are using the "add to image" tool inside "Magic Extractor," the necessity to do so seems a big step backward, performance-wise, from PS5.5.  "Fix holes" has little or no effect.
Do others experience a similar problem using PSE8's "Magic Extractor"?  Is there a "fix" to improve the tool's performance other than manually correcting the selection with the "add to image" brush?
    Thanks for any helpful suggestions.

Can you please attach a file you faced the issue. And a screenshot showing the problem.
