Large .dmg downloads fail verification

I've recently encountered large downloaded .dmg files which fail verification, with the error codec overrun. Safari seems to be worse than Firefox but both have the problem.
Is this just my connection (fixed wireless) or something wrong with OSX?

Thanks but
a) I already searched the discussions and saw a variety of unresolved issues similar to mine and
b) My ISP delivers internet to me via Fixed Wireless - I live in the mountains and this is the only way to get broadband (wispertel.com and it is nice and fast). I am ethernet connected to a router which is ethernet connected to an antenna on my roof, but that is as direct as I can get. Do you suspect that's the culprit?

  • Package header failed verification during sfr package download

    Hello,
I am trying to download the package asasfr-5500x-boot-5.3.1-152.pkg. But everytime it comes with an error "Package header failed verification - object of type 'NoneType' has no len() Please verify that the package is not corrupted.Upgrade aborted." I have tried with ftp as well as http. But every case it is happening the same. My question is whether it is the right package. From Cisco doc I have read asasfr-sys-5.3.1-44.pkg. But this version I didn't found on cisco download software site.

    thanks in advance.

Sounds like the package could have been corrupted when downloaded from CCO.  Did you run an MD5 hash of the package and compare to the values posted on CCO for the file?
There's a number of free MD5 checksum programs that you can use.  My favorite is one called HashCheck.
Hash for SFR package is in red below.  If it doesn't match, re-download the image from CCO again and make sure the hashes match.

Seems to be a content expiration issue, probably to keep the load down on the servers hosting the updates.  I've found that resetting your network settings does the trick, even if it is a little overkill.

  • DMG Download Corrupted

There have been many posts with users expressing problems getting DMG's to mount. "Invalid Checksum" or "Codec Overrun" errors are common.
I am experiencing problems with large (> 10MB) DMG files that I download either from Software Update, Safari or FireFox. Since I've got two Macs, I've been able to do some testing. Here's what I've found:
Mac 1 is running 10.4.4. It has the DMG download problem.
Mac 2 is running 10.4.4. It's working fine.
If I download DMG's on Mac 1, I will receive an "Invalid Checksum" error and they will fail to mount.
If I download DMG's on Mac 2 and copy them to Mac 1, DMG's mount fine - no problem.
If I download DMG's on Mac 1 and copy to Mac 2, I get "Invalid Checksum" errors. (Thus, this is how know that the DMG's are arriving corrupted).
If I log in as "root" on Mac 1 and try downloading, I get the same corrupted DMG's (I looked at the checksum using DiskUtility). So, I know the problem (most likely) does not lie within the realm of my user folder.
So, the DMG's on Mac 1 are downloading improperly. This smells like a network transfer issue, but, I don't know where to start. There's probably a file that's bad, somewhere.
If anyone at Apple reads these emails, or, if there's anyone with some suggestions as to what I could try, please respond. I would like to get this issue resolved and post something to help others with the same problem.
PowerBook G4 and PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   "Invalid Checksum" "Codec Overrun"

Seconding this, I'm having the same experience. I maintain my machine religiously, running DiskWarrior on a regular basis, using MainMenu to clear caches and such. But I also get frequent, if not constant, checksum errors on large DMG files. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried powering down and re-starting the iPhone (as suggested at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275). This seems to have cleared the "...not connected to the Internet" problem, and iOS 6.1 is now in the process of downloading.

  • OSD TS application download fails after reboot - client incorrectly believes it "is on internet"

    Hello,
Our  SCCM infrastructure is configured to use SSL and it’s working, no problems in daily operation.
However, our windows 7 osd task sequence has an issue after a “reboot computer” step, on a single specific computer.
The OSD TS looks as follows (cannot put screenshot due to account verification issue
    Setup Operating System
    - Setup Windows and Configuration Manager
    - Install Updates
    Standard Software
    - Install Default Apps
    - Install Adobe
    - Restart Computer
    - Install MS Apps
    - Install Antivirus
"Install default apps” and “install adobe” works correctly. All app packages are downloaded and installed without errors.
Then “restart computer” runs, also ok.
Then “install ms apps” tries to install Office 2010 and lync. This and the following install steps all fail with this message in the task sequence report:
“DownloadFailed – execution status received: 24 (Application download failed)”
I opened a debug command line on the affected client with F8 and captured the logfiles.
it seems the Client believes it is "on the Internet" after the reboot, and tries to contact our Internet-facing DP.

Hello, I recently had the same problem. I came by this topic looking for a solution. I was trying to download JDK Update 11
    Probably not a coincidence.
I fixed by problem, by disabling verification.
    ============================
Download Fails with Status of "Download failed. Unable to verify": SDM uses small "verification property files" (VPFs) that may be downloaded automatically by SDM to provide real-time checksum verification of files as they download. If your download fails and you see the Status message, "Download failed. Unable to verify. See Help for more info.", it is possible there is an accidental mismatch between the VPF file and the file being downloaded. You can try the download again with Verification turned off -- SDM can be used successfully without VPFs. To turn off verification:
    ***Select "File-->Options"
*** In the Options window, uncheck "Use automatic file verification when available (recommended)".
*** Click OK to close the Options window.
*** In the SDM main window, click the file name, then "Retry", then "Start" to try the download again without verification.
*** In general, it is much better to use verification when available. Please turn it back on after downloading the problematic file

my iphone 5 is connected to a wi-fi network and i'm able to browse the web and receive emails.  however when i try to update the software the process fails with the following message "Unable to Verify Update.  iOS 6.1 failed verification because you are no longer connected Internet." It gives an open to "Close" or "Try again", but the retry is also unsuccessful.

Try to connect to secure web site. If you can't, that would mean that your iphone is unable to authenticate itself to apple servers in order to download update. If you can - I would still guess same but with less certainty and suggest to update on another network.

Unable to verify update iOS 7.0.2 failed verification because you are no longer connected to Internet

    Two thoughts:
    1.  The current iOS version is 7.1.2, not 7.0.2.  You should update to the current version.
    2.  The reason for the failure is given in the message.  Once you finish downloading iOS, you need to be connected to the internet.

    Hello,
We deploy applications using a task sequence. It does not matter which order we put the applications, the last two or three applications will not install. All of the applications install correctly when moved up in the task sequence order but
previously working installs will fail once they are moved to the end of the list. Inside of the SMSTS logs we receive several errors listed below. I'm assuming it has to do with a space issue or limit but cannot find anything that would cause this error.

The CAS log shows the problem, I do have errors there. The SMS Cache was filling up so I doubled the SMSCACHESIZE attribute (SMSCACHESIZE=10240) to bypass the issue and allow all applications to install. The issue remains that
the content is not deleted, it looks like the Error: DeleteDirectory error is not clearing installed applications.

    Hi..
When running software update the files all download then fail verification and so won't install. I've tried downloading the files manually from the site with the same result. I've tried both about 3 times each.
I've downloaded other things from the web that seem ok.
    Any ideas?

The resolution was a faulty internet router corrupting the file.
